HCF SAFETY & SECURITY BULLETIN 24 – 30 July 2017
Ref: SHEQD10.2.3 Issue: 01
In the past 12 months, there has been a very pleasing improvement in our safety performance. The most pleasing is that 20% less of us were injured at work. This is a great result, because nobody should come to work and get hurt. Below is a representation of how we went.
But all this good work can mean nothing if we have another serious injury. In July, we had our worst month this year. •
Jammed / crushed finger when closing a wharf gate.
•
Jarred shoulder when the rope got caught on the door latch when trying to throw
•
Bumped head on a draw that was opened above the injured person while they were bending over to pick something up
•
Injured knee when tripped down the stairs of a RiverCat.
•
Pain in knees when squatting down to do a cleaning task
•
Pain in the groin area when picking up a bucket of water
•
Bumped head on door closer on a HarbourCat
•
Rolled ankle on First Fleet vessel when stepping down from Engineer’s station
•
Laceration to finger when using a grinder
•
Shoulder pain when handling bags of rubbish
•
Jammed / crushed fingers when using wharf gate
•
Injured ribs after fall from vessel void ladder impacting left torso. This injury has now resulted in an LTI
