Introducción

¡Cumplimos once años! Once años recorriendo la provincia de Lugo, cada ayuntamiento, cada rincón y, precisamente porque nos gusta caminar por nuestra tierra, este año… ¡nos vamos de ruta! Tenemos en mente el mapa de los 67 ayuntamientos que la forman y daremos comienzo a este viaje de norte a sur. El mar Cantábrico nos recibe susurrando y dando forma a nuestra costa con increíbles paisajes marítimos, playas apasionantes y miradores que nos ofrecen postales preciosas de nuestros amaneceres y puestas de sol. Infinidad de ríos, como el Miño, el Sil, el Eo, el Ulla o el Neira, nos abrirán el camino. Cumprimos once anos! Once anos percorrendo a provincia de Lugo, cada concello, cada recuncho e, precisamente porque nos gusta camiñar pola nosa terra, este ano… ímonos de ruta! Temos en mente o mapa dos 67 concellos que a forman e daremos comezo a esta viaxe de norte a sur. O mar Cantábrico recíbenos murmurando e dando forma á nosa costa con incribles paisaxes marítimas, praias apaixonantes e miradoiros que nos ofrecen postais preciosas dos nosos amenceres e postas de sol. Introduction

We already reach eleven years! They were eleven years going through the province of Lugo, every council, every corner and, precisely because we love walking through our land, this year... let’s go on a route! We have in mind the map with the 67 councils that Lugo is organized and we will start this trip from north to south. The Cantabrian Sea receives us whispering and giving shape to our coast with amazing sea landscapes, stunning beaches and viewpoints that offer us beautiful postcards of our sunrises and sunsets. Endless rivers, such as: Miño, Sil, Eo, Ulla or Neira will open our path. The mountains of O Courel, Os Ancares and O Xistral will be attentive and the flatland of a Terra Chá with its healing powers will make us enjoy a relaxing atmosphere. We must also include some open spaces, which were mostly recognised in the Red Natura 2000 as the Biosphere Reserve of Terras do Miño, os Ancares Lucenses and Montes de Navia and the river Eo, Oscos and Terras de Burón. This natural wealth is the perfect setting for the artistic and ethnographic heritage that is spread over the whole province; an ideal combination that makes the trip attractive to any of our senses. To discover them in the best possible way, in this new edition of the guidebook we will propose you an anthology of the best hiking routes of the towns that form Lugo.

uestra ruta de norte a sur por la provincia de Lugo comienza en Ribadeo, un municipio que se encuentra en un lugar privilegiado de cara a su ría, colindante con la comunidad asturiana. Puerta norte de entrada a Galicia, el centro de la ciudad se identifica por su pasado indiano con diferentes edificios de la época, entre los que destaca la torre de los Moreno. Además, su atractivo principal es su entorno natural bañado por el mar Cantábrico, es de visita obligada su playa de As Catedrais y el paseo que bordea su ría hasta encontrarnos con el faro de Illa Pancha.

A Mariña Oriental

Antes de continuar por el Cantábrico, nos adentramos en el interior para visitar Trabada y A Pontenova. Localidades de preciosas estampas de montaña en las que poder realizar sus rutas de senderismo y contemplar la riqueza de su naturaleza. En nuestro paso por Trabada podemos reponer fuerzas probando uno de sus platos más típicos, la enfariñada. Al llegar a A Pontenova, veremos de frente su emblema más característico, sus conocidos Hornos de Vilaoudriz, una muestra del pasado minero de la zona. De vuelta a la costa, nos sorprenderán los ocho kilómetros de playas de arena blanca y fina de Barreiros. Un total de nueve arenales que no nos dejarán indiferentes. Being the north door to the entrance to Galicia, the city centre is identified with its “indiano” past (Spaniard who returns to Spain after having made his fortune in Latin America) with different buildings of the time, among them the Moreno Tower. However, its main attraction is its natural landscape lapped by the Cantabrian Sea; it is a well worth visit the beach of As Catedrais and the walk that borders its sea inlet until we find the Lighthouse of Illa Pancha. Before continuing through the Cantabrian Sea, we get into the inside to visit Trabada and A Pontenova. They are localities of beautiful mountain images where hiking trails can be done and to contemplate its natural wealth. When passing through Trabada, we can recharge batteries by tasting one of its most typical dishes, “la enfariñada”. Once arrived at A Pontenova, we will see its most characteristic symbol, its well-known hornos de Vilaoudriz, a sample of the mining past of the area. On the way back to the coast, we will get surprised by the eight kilometers of white soft sand beaches of Barreiros. A total of nine sandy areas will not leave us indifferent.

Ruta de A Becerreira Un sendero de 6 km por Trabada que combina dos zonas bien diferenciadas entre pinares y robledales.

Torre de los Moreno El Viejo Pancho

This is a path around 6 km through Trabada that combines two very distinguished areas between oak groves and pine woods.

San Roque FICHA

Cuartel Viejo Con este paseo por Ribadeo se puede conocer lo esencial de su legado indiano. Desde su torre de los Moreno cruzaremos el pueblo por una bonita calle peatonal hasta el barrio de San Roque, donde se encuentran las edificaciones más significativas, verdaderas joyas arquitectónicas.

With this walk through Ribadeo, one can see the most essential part of its “indiano” legacy. From its Moreno Tower, we will cross the town through a beautiful pedestrian street to the neighborhood of San Roque, where the most significant buildings can be found, which are real architectural jewels.

Este camino transita por la que fuera la antigua vía del ferrocarril que unía la localidad de A Pontenova con Ribadeo, en plena Reserva de la Biosfera Oscos-Eo-Terras de Burón. This path passes through the ancient path of the railway track that joined the locality of A Pontenova with Ribadeo, in the middle of the Biosphere Reserve Oscos-Eo-Terras de Burón.

From the beach of Punta da Anguieira, we will cross through Altar, San Bartolo, Acantilado-Remior, Coto, Fontela-Balea, Lóngara, As Pasadas and Arealonga. These nine fascinating sandy areas belong to Barreiros.

Desde la playa Punta da Anguieira, pasaremos por Altar, San Bartolo, Acantilado-Remior, Coto, Fontela-Balea, Lóngara, As Pasadas y Arealonga. Barreiros, un total de nueve arenales apasionantes.

A Mariña Central

i seguimos recorriendo la línea del mar Cantábrico en dirección oeste nos encontraremos con Foz y Burela a sus orillas y con otros cuatro municipios precosteros hacia el interior, como son Lourenzá, Mondoñedo, Alfoz y O Valadouro.

Dejamos atrás el sonido del Cantábrico si viajamos hasta Lourenzá, un municipio bien reconocido por uno de los productos estrella de nuestra provincia, la faba. Esta leguminosa es cultivada en el valle de Lourenzá, al que poder escaparse para comprobar la técnica de su producción, visitando de paso el pazo de Tovar o el monasterio benedictino de San Salvador, con gran belleza barroca, en la capitalidad del ayuntamiento. Si hablamos de historia y cultura, Mondoñedo esconde obras de gran valor arquitectónico. Por sus calles, consideradas Conjunto Histórico-Artístico desde 1985, podemos ir visitando edificios tan importantes como la Catedral, el Palacio Episcopal, el barrio de Os Muíños o el puente romano de O Pasatempo, ligado a la historia del Mariscal Pardo de Cela. Todo sin olvidarnos de probar su famosa tarta, su producto más típico.

Destino turístico de A Mariña Lucense, en Foz se puede combinar a la perfección el mar y la montaña. De reconocido prestigio es su basílica de San Martiño, considerada la primera catedral de España y ubicada de camino a su Pico de Cornería. Pueblo marinero donde los haya, no se queda atrás su vecina, Burela. Su puerto es uno de los puertos boniteros más importantes de España. Una visita a sus pla-

contemplar una majestuosa panorámica de toda la costa lucense. Sorprenderá, sin duda alguna.

If we continue going through the line of the Cantabrian Sea towards the west part, we will find Foz and Burela and other four pre-coastal municipalities inwards, such as, Lourenzá, Mondoñedo, Alfoz and O Valadouro.

From the legend of O Mariscal, Alfoz keeps some vestiges, such as the ruins of its greatest symbol, the Castle of Castro de Ouro. The nature is another of its main attractions and it is advisable to enjoy the views from the viewpoint of the O Alto da Frouxeira or la Fraga Vella, in the middle of the mountains of O Xistral. Within this natural landscape, from the high part of O Cadramón in O Valadouro, we can contemplate the majestic panoramic view of the whole coast of Lugo. Without a doubt, it will surprise you.

Being a tourist destination within the Mariña Lucense, Foz combines perfectly sea and mountain. The renowned prestige of its Basilica of San Martiño, which is considered to be the first cathedral of Spain and located on its way to its Peak of Cornería. Very close to Foz, we find Burela, a sailor town that is also worthy visiting. Its port is one of the most important tuna ports in Spain. A visit to the its beaches of O Cantiño, O Cabaliño, A Marosa or O Portelo can be as pleasant as the ascent to the mountain of Castelo. Leaving behing the sound of the Cantabrian Sea, we will find Lourenzá, a municipality famous for its main product of our province, “la faba” (the bean). This legume is grown in the valley of Lourenzá, where we can check the technique of its production, passing through the Country House of Tovar or the benedictine monastery of San Salvador, with a great baroque beauty, in the capital status of the town council. When talking about history and culture, Mondoñedo hides works of great architectural value. Esta ruta se inicia en el propio casco urbano de Foz. Para empezar la subida al monte de O Bispo Santo, se visita la antigua basílica de San Martiño y, tras continuar la caminata por la parroquia de Vilaronte, se inicia el ascenso hasta el Pico de Cornería, desde donde contemplar una amplia vista de la zona.

Con este recorrido bordearemos el perímetro de Burela. Combina el discurrir por la costa con el ascenso y descenso al punto más alto del municipio, el mirador del monte Castelo.

Límite con la provincia de A Coruña, O Vicedo es el final de A Mariña y su belleza natural es difícil de olvidar. e las tierras de A Mariña Occidental nos adentramos en la comarca más extensa de toda la provincia, la Terra Chá. Muras nos recibe con dos espacios naturales protegidos ideales para nuestras rutas de senderismo: el entorno del río Sor y la sierra de O Xistral. Este entorno montañoso limita al sur con Xermade, donde nos sigue ofreciendo lugares naturales y vistas panorámicas de gran belleza. Toda esta zona es rica de naturaleza y ya en Guitiriz son bien conocidas sus fuentes mineromedicinales, ideales para los aficionados al turismo termal. Montañas, ríos, aguas curativas... y en esta tierra no podían faltar lagos. En el siguiente municipio de nuestro recorrido, Begonte, lo más recomendado es la visita a su laguna de Riocaldo, excelente refugio de variopintas especies migratorias. En pleno corazón de la comarca está su capital, Vilalba. Su patrimonio artístico más identificativo es la torre de los Andrade, única huella conservada de su castillo medieval, que es hoy en día Parador de Turismo. From the western part of the Mariña Lucense we get into the vastest area of the whole province, the so-called Terra Chá. Muras receives us with two natural protected spaces that are ideal for our hiking routes: the area of the river Sor and the mountains of O Xistral. This mountain surrounding borders on the south with Xermade, where it still offers us natural places and panoramic views of great beauty. The whole area has a natural richness and already in Guitiriz, its medicinal mineral and healing waters for the amateurs of the thermal tourism are very popular. Mountains, rivers, medicinal waters... and lakes could not be missed in this area. In the next municipality of our tour, Begonte, the most advisable visit is the pond of Riocaldo, an excellent refugee of diverse migratory species. In the very centre of this area the capital is, Villalba. Son aproximadamente 20 km e intenta unir tres fuentes mineromedicinales del ayuntamiento de Guitiriz. Su inicio se marca en San Alberto, donde se encuentra una hermosa capilla medieval a la que se llega tras cruzar un puente con el mismo nombre, recorre las fuentes de Valdovín y San Xoán de Lagostelle y finaliza en el Balneario de Pardiñas. Las protagonistas de este sendero son las lagunas que ocupan estas tierras de Cospeito. La primera que encontramos es la laguna de Cospeito y, en mitad del recorrido, está la laguna de Carballosa. Desde aquí continuaremos hasta el final, la iglesia de San Martiño de Lamas, por largas rectas y horizontes lejanos, bien característicos de esta comarca. Un lugar idóneo para nuestras rutas de senderismo en el que poder disfrutar de huellas del pasado como Montefurado, una antigua explotación minera aurífera, o sus iglesias de San Xurxo de Piquín y San Xoán de Vaos. Finalmente, en Pol, uno de los paseos más recomendables es el que atraviesa los humedales de A Pedreira, al norte del municipio. Es bonita también su ermita de A Nosa Señora das Neves.

Before leaving, we can sweeten our palate with its cake of Riortorto. Meira also counts on a great natural value. Its Pedregal de Irimia is of special interest because is where the river Miño has its source. Another suggestion is the visit to the city centre where the monastery of Santa María de Meira is found. Going inwards and closer to Asturias, Ribeira de Piquín is. This is a perfect place to our hiking routes where one can enjoy the traces of the past such as Montefurado, an ancient strip mining or its churches of San Xurxo de Piquín and San Xoán de Vaos. Finally, in Pol, one of the most recommended walks is the one that crosses the wetlands of A Pedreira, at the north of the municipality. Its chapel of A Nosa Señora das Neves is also worth visiting.

Desde el centro de Meira, la primera parada debe ser la iglesia y monasterio de Santa María, dejaremos atrás la capitalidad y continuaremos a pie hasta el Pedregal de Irimia, donde nace el río Miño. Esta ruta en Ribeira de Piquín se inicia en el área recreativa de Chao do Pousadoiro y, siguiendo toda la orilla del río Eo, llegaremos al puente de San Xurxo, donde nos desviaremos pocos metros para visitar la iglesia románica del mismo nombre del siglo XVIII. Desde aquí llegaremos al área de A Retorta, desde donde comienza la subida a Pena de Millares, un espectacular mirador de todo el valle del Eo. In Ribeira de Piquín this route is started in the recreational area of Chao do Pousadoiro and, bordering the banks of the river Eo, we will reach the bridge of San Jorge, where we will divert a few metres to visit the Romanesque church of the same name, from the XVIII century. From here, we will arrive at the area of A Retorta, where the ascent to the Pena de Millares starts, an amazing viewpoint of the whole valley of the Eo.

res razones hay para visitar esta comarca: sus espectaculares paisajes naturales, su patrimonio histórico artístico y su gastronomía. Tres son también las localidades que la forman: Negueira de Muñiz, A Fonsagrada y Baleira. En la zona más oriental de la provincia y pegada a Asturias está Negueira de Muñiz, rodeada de montañas y bañada por el río Navia. Es el municipio menos poblado de toda Galicia, hecho que lo hizo atractivo para una colonia hippie, que lo eligió como lugar de residencia ya por los años 80.

A Fonsagrada

El famoso Camino Primitivo a Santiago de Compostela entra a Galicia por A Fonsagrada y es por ello por lo que aquí quedaron huellas religiosas como el Real Hospital de Peregrinos de Santiago de Montouto o las iglesias de Lamas de Moreira, Vilabol de Suarna o A Proba de Burón. Sus paisajes de montaña son impresionantes y entre su gastronomía el más famoso es el butelo. De camino a tierras lucenses se sitúa Baleira, en donde podemos ver nacer a los ríos Eo y Neira. Entre su plena naturaleza es muy curioso acercarse a conocer algunas de sus pallozas y hórreos.

In the eastern part of the province and close to Asturias Negueira de Muñiz is, surrounded by mountains and lapped by the river Navia. It is the least populated municipality of the entire Galicia, a fact that made it attractive for a hippy community who chose it as a place of residence in the 80s. The famous primitive way to Santiago de Compostela enters Galicia through A Fonsagrada and that is the reason why there still exist religious signs such as the Real Hospital of Pilgrims of Santiago de Montouto or the churches of Lamas de Moreira, Vilabol de Suarna or A Proba de Burón. Its mountain landscapes are impressive and from a gastronomic point of view the “butelo” (is a dish of meat-stuffed pork intestine) is the most important product. Ruta de A Marronda Este paseo circular está ubicado en uno de los paisajes más ricos y también más desconocidos de Galicia, la Fraga da Marronda, en Baleira. Desde San Paio, el primer tramo llega al área recreativa de A Cortevella, asciende a la Pena Cerrada y Pena da Raia y llega a A Marronda. Desde aquí comienza el descenso al punto de partida, durante el que podemos hacer un descanso en el mirador de O Ferreiro, con unas vistas panorámicas espectaculares, y visitar las cascadas de O Pozo da Ferreira y de Acea de Serra.

San Paio A Cortevella A Marronda Mirador de O Ferreiro San Paio

This circular walk is located on one of the richest and most unknown landscapes of Galicia, the forest of Marronda, in Baleira. From San Paio, the first section reaches the recreational area of A Cortevella; then it ascends to the Pena Cerrada and Pena da Raia and arrives at Marronda. From here, the descent to the starting point begins, where we can have a break in the viewpoint of O Ferreiro, with spectacular panoramic views and to visit the waterfalls of O Pozo da Ferreira and Acea de Serra.

Very close, in the middle of this mountain, the council of Cervantes is found. One of the biggest attractions is the village of O Piornedo, with its unmistakable straw rounded “pallozas”. Es un camino entre montañas y pallozas desde el lugar de A Degrada hasta Piornedo, en Cervantes. Estas construcciones fueron, antaño, los refugios de las tribus celtas en su huída a las montañas tras el empuje de las legiones romanas. Sarria is crossed from east to west by the French Way, being the main pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela and it still preserves traces of its religious link. Pilgrims enter this region through Triacastela, an advisable place for those mountain lovers and they continue to Samos. An indispensable stop is the monastery of San Xulián,

where one of the biggest cloisters of Spain can be found; the so-called Padre Feijoo’s. Bordering the capital of the region, we will find O Incio. Here, apart from its natural landscape, we cannot miss the visit to the monumental ensemble of O Hospital. A few kilometres from here, Paradela is located, a place with beautiful settings around the rivers Loio and Miño. The Miño leads to the north through O Páramo, where the watercourses of the Sarria and the Neira converge. They are perfect places for the fishing and hiking lovers. Al oeste está Friol, atravesado por el Camino Norte a Santiago de Compostela y en el que siguen en pie muestras del pasado medieval, como la torre de Miraz y la fortaleza de San Paio de Narla.

Lugo

De camino a Portomarín, el pueblo reconstruido en los años 50 a consecuencia de la construcción del embalse de Belesar, pasaremos por Guntín. Aquí, son de obligado cumplimiento la parada en el monasterio de Ferreira de Pallares y la degustación de los pimientos de Mougán. No nos olvidemos tampoco de probar en Portomarín sus famosas recetas con anguilas. Antes de adentrarnos en Lugo, a solo 15 km tenemos O Corgo. Son recomendables sus pazos de Piñeiro y de Adai.

n el centro geográfico de la provincia está la comarca de la capital y rodeando Lugo los ayuntamientos de Castroverde, Outeiro de Rei, Friol, Guntín, Portomarín y O Corgo. En el primero de ellos, se localiza el conjunto de Vilabade, de estilo gótico y formado por la conocida Catedral de Castroverde y el pazo ubicado en su misma plaza. Podremos disfrutar también de todo su encanto natural, que no es poco. Como lo es también el de Outeiro de Rei, destino perfecto para los amantes de los tesoros medioambientales. Son especialmente salientables las insuas del Miño.

La Fraga das fervenzas, en O Corgo, es un bosque centenario de gran valor ambiental. A orillas del río Miño, es un lugar paradisíaco muy bien conservado en el que se esconde una bonita cascada y un antiguo molino del siglo XVI, ahora transformado en hospedería. The “Fraga das fervenzas”, in O Corgo, is an ancient forest with a great environment value. At the banks of the river Miño, it is an idyllic place that is preserved very well and it hides a beautiful waterfall and an ancient windmill from the XVI century, now converted into a hostelry.

Sendero Muíños do Nacente

Atraviesa diversos valores naturales y patrimoniales de Castroverde. Este recorrido nos lleva a visitar los molinos de Lamela, Pestana y O Ferradal, además de pasar por la iglesia, el quiosco y el puente de Bolaño. Es muy recomendable, en la mitad del camino, desviarse a ver la Cova da Valiña, donde se encuentran restos prehistóricos con más de 14.000 años. It crosses different natural and patrimonial values of Castroverde. This route leads us to visit the windmills of Lamela, Pestana and O Ferradal, apart from passing by the church, the newsstand and the bridge of Bolaño. It is very recommendable, in the middle of the path, to divert oneself to see the Cova (cave) of Valiña, where there are still prehistoric remains of more than 14,000 years ago.

En este recorrido a orillas del Miño por Outeiro de Rei nos espera una gran riqueza paisajística. El bosque da abrigo a abundantes poblaciones faunísticas y veremos las famosas Insuas do Miño, situadas en el interior del curso fluvial. In this route at the banks of the river Miño through Outeiro de Rei a great landscape wealth is awaiting us. This route is shared by the councils of Guntín and Portomarín. Through natural landscapes and stream crossings we will go parallel to the river Ferreira until crossing the watercourse of Nespereira. The most special place of the whole route is Ferreira de Pallares, where we can see its famous monastery and Calvary cross.

Ruta Miño abierto, río abajo

Para llegar a esta ruta cortita ubicada a orillas del río Miño a su paso por la ciudad de Lugo, es buena opción comenzar en el centro de la capital. En plena plaza de la Constitución está ubicada la oficina de turismo y desde aquí ya vemos cerca la Muralla milenaria, declarada Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la Unesco en 2000. La rodeamos y a la altura de la Puerta de Santiago bajamos cara el río Miño por la calle Santiago. Nos encontraremos con la N-VI y debemos dirigirnos dirección Madrid. Ya en esta carretera, dejaremos a mano derecha el Balneario y a pocos metros está situado el comienzo de la ruta. Ya no tenemos pérdida, ¡a disfrutarla!

To find this short route, located at the banks of the river Miño on its way through Lugo, it is a good option to start in the centre of the city. In the middle of Plaza de la Constitución the tourist office is located and from here we already see the thousandyear-old wall, which was declared as world Heritage Site by the Unesco in 2000. We will border it, and at the level of the door of Santiago, we descent to the river Miño through Santiago street. We will find the national road (N-VI) and we must lead towards Madrid. In this same road, leaving the spa at the right hand and a few metres the start of the route will begin. We cannot get lost! Enjoy it!

nmarcada por la sierra de O Careón, en esta comarca nace el río Ulla. Su capital, Palas de Rei, limita al sur con los otros dos ayuntamientos que la forman: Antas de Ulla y Monterroso. Entre las razones para viajar a esta tierra es imprescindible destacar su patrimonio artístico, la belleza de su entorno y su exquisita gastronomía. Debemos acercarnos a la iglesia de San Salvador de Vilar de Donas y al castillo de Pambre, en Palas de Rei; la iglesia de Novelúa, en Monterroso, y el balneario de Frádegas, en Antas de Ulla. Desde Palas de Rei atravesaremos varios núcleos de población en dirección Frádegas, donde nos encontraremos con un antiguo balneario de aguas sulfurosas con reconocido prestigio. A partir de aquí seguiremos el curso del río Ulla hasta sus torrentes de Mácara, de gran belleza y cercanos al castillo de Pambre. From Palas de Rei, we will cross several populated areas heading Frádegas, where we will find an ancient spa of sulphurous waters with a great prestige. From here, we will follow the watercourse of the river Ulla until its torrents of Mácara, with a great beauty and close to the castle of Pambre.

Ruta Monte Farelo Saliendo del centro de Antas de Ulla, al final de esta villa, nos encontraremos con el magnífico pazo de Vilane. En la aldea de San Fiz nos esperará una muestra excelente de los hórreos típicos del interior de Galicia y un poco más adelante podremos observar ya la grandeza del monte Farelo. Tras alcanzar su cima, comenzaremos el regreso a Antas de Ulla durante el cual podremos ver los famosos petroglifos y la aldea de Nugallás, donde se ubica el centro geográfico de Galicia.

Leaving the centre of Antas de Ulla, at the end of this area, we will find the impressive country house of Vilane. Reaching the south of the province, we will find Ribeira Sacra. In Taboada, its beautiful landscapes will await us and we will have the opportunity to make our hiking routes. The mountain Faro controls these places where samples of the Romanesque are hidden, as for example the churches of Taboada dos Freires and San Pedro de Bembibre. Its capital, Chantada, gives name to this region and it is especially advisable for wine lovers. The riverbanks of the Miño leave us stunning views of the ethnography of the area, its small villages and the terraces for the cultivation of vineyards will leave us especially surprised. The city centre is also worthwhile and we can buy the cake of Chantada as a souvenir. A dessert to be tasted after recharging batteries is the famous carne ao caldeiro (boiled meat) of Carballedo. Another good alternative is the river route by catamaran along the river Miño from the

reservoir of Os Peares to Belesar. From another view, we will realise how different the vineyards are grown and the great effort that requires.

En Chantada, recorreremos la orilla del Miño desde la aldea de Belesar hasta el pueblo de A Veiga. El camino avanza entre las terrazas repletas de viñas y nos dará la oportunidad de conocer uno de los paisajes más característicos de la Ribeira Sacra. ¡Impresionante! In Chantada, we will border the banks of the river Miño from the village of Belesar to A Veiga’s. The path progresses among terraces full of vineyards and it will give us the opportunity to know one of the most characteristic landscapes of the Ribeira Sacra. Amazing!

Cuatro miradores salpicados a lo largo de Carballedo nos permitirán disfrutar de imágenes privilegiadas. Son la Pena Cabezuda, una roca con forma de cabeza humana, el mirador de Erbedeiro, el de A Grixoá y el de Os Peares. Four viewpoints spread around Carballedo will allow us to enjoy privileged images. Some examples are “la Pena Cabezuda”, a humanface shaped rock, the viewpoint of Erbedeiro, a Grixoá and Os Peares.

Terra de Lemos

l corazón de la Ribeira Sacra es la Terra de Lemos. Su belleza paisajística, el arte románico y el cultivo de uva mencía en los bancales de los ríos Miño y Sil son los tres emblemas de esta comarca. En este entorno natural se esconden numerosas joyas del Románico, como el monasterio de San Estevo de Ribas de Miño y la iglesia de San Martiño da Cova, en O Saviñao; el monasterio de San Salvador de Ferreira de Pantón; las iglesias de San Salvador de Ferreiros y San Xián de Veiga, en A Pobra do Brollón, o las de Santa María de Proendos y San Vicente de Pinol, en Sober. Tan interesantes y bonitas como la capilla del Ecce Homo, de Bóveda. Monforte de Lemos, el núcleo más poblado de la zona, es ideal para perderse entre sus calles, disfrutar de la ribera del río Cabe y visitar sus museos de Arte Sacro y del Ferrocarril. Para llevarnos un exquisito recuerdo, no podemos partir sin haber probado su vino de denominación de origen Ribeira Sacra ni las famosas roscas de Sober.

In the heart of a Ribeira Sacra we find the Terra de Lemos. Its landscape beauty, the Romanesque art and the grape cultivation in the terraces of the rivers Miño and Sil are the three symbols of this region. In this natural setting, we can see numerous treasures of the Romanesque, such as the monastery of San Estevo de Ribas de Miño and the church of San Martiño da Cova, en O Saviñao, the monastery of San Salvador de Ferreira de Pantón; the churches of San Salvador de Ferreiros and San Xián de Veiga, in A Pobra do Brollón, or the churches of Santa María de Proendos and San Vicente de Pinol, in Sober. Ruta Playa de A Cova

Ruta de Penacova Escairón Pazo de Arxeriz O Cabo do Mundo Playa fluvial

Escairón es el núcleo más poblado del ayuntamiento de O Saviñao y punto de inicio de la ruta. El pazo de Arxeriz y el de Lamaquebrada se cruzarán en nuestro camino hasta el maravilloso paraje de A Cova. Podremos descansar en su playa fluvial y admirar las vistas sobre el Miño desde el mirador O Cabo do Mundo. Escairón is the most populated area of the council of O Saviñao and similarly it is the starting point of the route. The country house of Arxeriz and Lamaquebrada will be crossed in our route until reaching the beautiful setting of A Cova. We can rest in its river beach and admire the views above the river Miño from the viewpoint of O Cabo do Mundo.

Para los buenos aficionados al senderismo, esta ruta circular desde Rubián (Bóveda) nos sorprenderá por su vegetación autóctona y por su histórica ferrería de Penacova. Una de las únicas de la provincia de Lugo, junto a la de Seoane do Courel, que se encuentra íntegramente restaurada. For the hiking lovers, this circular route from Rubián (Bóveda) will surprise us due to its native vegetation and its historical blacksmith’s of Penacova. It is almost the only one in the province of Lugo, together with Seoane do Courel, which is entirely restored.

Visitar la Fervenza de Augacaída será fácil si seguimos las indicaciones de esta ruta de Pantón. El sendero nos llevará también al Castro de Marce, un montículo sobre el río Miño con vistas espectaculares. To visit the waterfall of Augacaída will be easy if we follow the signals of this route of Pantón. The path will also lead us to the castle of Marce, a mound above the river Miño with stunning views.

Oficialmente reconocida, parte de Doade, Sober, hasta adentrarse ya en el ayuntamiento vecino de Ribas de Sil. Tendremos ocasión de contemplar los hermosos cañones del Sil, el mirador de Pena do Castelo y la ermita de San Amaro.

This route is officially accepted and it starts from Doade, Sober, to get into the nearby council of Ribas de Sil. It is a very good occasion to contemplate the beautiful Sil canyons, the viewpoint of Pena do Castelo and the shrine of San Amaro.

uestro viaje por la provincia de Lugo llega a su fin y nos encontramos con Folgoso do Courel, en plena sierra de O Courel. Ideal para los enamorados del turismo de montaña, guarda también resquicios arqueológicos como los castros de Romeor y Vilamor o las cuevas rupestres de O Oso. Bañada por el río Sil se encuentra un poco más al sur Quiroga. Es interesante acercarse a ver el túnel de Montefurado, el molino de Bendilló para la elaboración del aceite o el embarcadero de Augas Mestas. Nos despedimos de Lugo en Ribas de Sil. El mirador de Pena Ladeira nos permitirá ver los famosos cañones del Sil y su conocido puente de hierro, entrar al municipio. Los productos más típicos de esta comarca son las cerezas, el aceite y las castañas.

Our trip through the province of Lugo is about to end and we find Folgoso do Courel, in the middle of the mountain of O Courel. It is ideal for lovers of mountain tourism and it also remains archaeological traces such as the forts of Romeor and Vilamor or the cave paintings of O Oso. Ruta del Castro de Vilar

El recorrido comienza en un bosque de castaños que nos llevará al curso del río Lor, a su paso por Folgoso do Courel. Tras cruzarlo en el puente de Arrastradoira, subiremos hasta la aldea de Vilamor. Desde aquí disfrutaremos de hermosas vistas al valle y llegaremos a la aldea de Froxán, declarada Bien de Interés Cultural. La última visita antes de alcanzar el Castro de Vilar será la ermita de San Roque. The route starts in a chestnuts forest that will lead us to the watercourse of the river Lor, on its way through Folgoso do Courel. After crossing it through the bridge of Arrastradoira, we will ascent to the village of Vilamor. From here, we will enjoy the beautiful views to the valley and we will arrive at the village of Froxán, which was declared of Cultural Interest. The last visit before reaching the fort of Vilar will be the shrine of San Roque.

Ruta de A Cubela

Una de las más recomendables de la Ribeira Sacra. Esta ruta circular de Ribas de Sil, se inicia en Castro de Abaixo y sigue el río Sil hasta A Cubela. Veremos los impresionantes meandros del Sil, el embarcadero de catamaranes o la iglesia románica de Santa María de Torbeo. It is one of the most advisable routes in a Ribeira Sacra. This circular route of Ribas de Sil is started in Castro De Abaixo and continues through the river Sil to A Cubela. We will see the impressive meanders of the Sil River, the quay with catamarans or the Romanesque church of Santa María de Torbeo.

Camino de O Ferradal Ferrería de Rugando Cova de Ricopete

Pena Furada

Desembocadura del río Soldón Es un antiguo camino por el que se bajaba el mineral de las montañas para las herrerías de Quiroga, como la Ferrería de Rugando, actualmente reconvertida en casa de turismo rural. Durante la caminata encontraremos otros puntos de interés como la Cova de Ricopete, antigua mina romana, y la Pena Furada, túnel excavado por los romanos para conducir el agua a varias explotaciones auríferas. It is an ancient walk used to carry the mineral from the mountains for the blacksmiths of Quiroga, such as the Blacksmith of Rugando, nowadays turned into a country holiday house. During the walk, we will find other interesting points as for example the Cave of Ricopete, an ancient roman mine, and the Pena Furada, a tunnel that was dug by the Romans to drive the water to several gold mining.
