TRANSPIRE: FOSTERING A COLLABORATIVE CULTURE
USER TESTING
THE OBJECTIVES To find out what is missing from the project as well as the eectiveness of the outcomes.
WHAT WAS DONE? A focus group was conducted with 10 student designers and after which they were told to fill up the feedback form. A website was created to conduct surveys with 6 participants who work as design educators and creatives from the design industry.
As this is a people driven project, reaching out to my target audience is very important. Do you think the outcomes (direct marketing advertising, creative strategy, etc.) have served their purpose?
35% To A Certain Extent 65% Yes
What are your initial thoughts after looking through my project?
At first glance, it’s hard to absorb what the project is about.
I love the art direction and colours used. I think this is a good project because it engages people (designers) in the local and even overseas creative community to come together to share ideas and stuff.
Some aspects like creative workshops and marketplace initiative are awesome, and I believe they should be given greater emphasis to speak of the power of collaborations, instead of being overshadowed your ‘umbrella brand’
The Starter kit pretty much seems to be a glorified stationery set with a specific purpose forced into them, whereas the creative strategy booklets look to me as your design proposal basically laid out in 3 books. They’re useful for planning, but not so much as outcomes to solve your issues as they’re just plans.
Do you have any ideas/suggestions on how I can better reach out to my target audience?
I’m sorry to say this but money plays a huge part in advertising if social networks are not working too well.
Perhaps through more examples of what collaboration could benefit each other.
Reach out to other schools and companies. Run more events like your swap meet.
I would think of a website that can reach out to social media, blog, interact and hold events!
What does collaboration mean to you in the context of design?
its a participation. the people involved in collaboration must realize that they have to be open and participate, otherwise there is no point in reading, doing, seeing, or create through/with design together.
collaboration to me is about getting designers from dierent media and medium, or perhaps from other field of expertise. Get together and create something new or exchange of skills, lastly is get to learn from each other.
Collaboration means the fusion of ideas (directly or indirectly) from separate sources to create new and innovative outcomes.
Idea generation through groups, sharing of design expertise

Would you encourage designers to take up collaboration as part of their design process?
100% YES!
Are there any kind of interesting/unconventional collaboration you would hope to see?
cross-disciplinary collaboration
Any interesting collaborative works between two or more dierent genres of specialism.
interior design + graphic design
typographer / chef dj / soccer player designer / politician
Collaborations between graphic designers and other industries.
Collaborations to advocate social issues
Between a designer and a nondesigner.
Designers working on food?
collaboration work is commonly known as multidisciplinary work; most of which is possible. At some point, it can become art and at some point, it aims to resolve a problem or make change. It will be very cool if a collaboration hits main-stream and then the general audience begins to realize the importance of design or specifically graphic design.
Fusing dierent kind of expertise, methods, techniques or trades might bounce o unexpected refreshing ideas or concept.
More collaboration between design and public life
Is there anything you would like to add? Any comments or/ and feedback about my project on how I can improve it?
I feel like there can be more events conducted to engage even more people and at the same time let this be a stepping stone for student designers to meet other designers from the industry - think “networking”, but casual. Like lim kopi and flea. Hahaha.
Having a gallery showing some outcomes would spark more interest and get the momentum going faster. I think nobody wants to join something that is empty.
A strong focal point for this project would be nice.
I feel you starter kit is a bit too commercial, I think you need like some fun stuff to draw pp.’s attention for me, it’s a little too much information overload.
Is there anything you would like to add? Any comments or/ and feedback about my project on how I can improve it?
To encourage collaboration, perhaps you could think ways of ways to push to general audience a few great and simple collaboration outcomes designers can engage in their daily life that could inspire them.
Make your proposition much more single-minded and straightforward.
if you could “design” a collaboration and have social media buzz about it. that will be good. this is because when people talk about it, it means success. Good news, bad news, they are all news. the art direction ; yellow with typical typeface. can be more wellthough.
Focus on solving problems with design supporting your outcomes, not defining your outcomes. Creating an event and designing for it is a good idea, whereas I don’t think creating your stationery set was.
