SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY IN ITALY

CITYTECH IS BACK TO MILAN

On September 14-15 the conference will be held at Fabbrica del Vapore, with an adjoining exhibition area, dedicated to technologies for 3d millennium cities

the end of the summer, with its swaAT rm of tourists and vacationers and a more than ever tested Italian transport system,

will be the time to (re)think the city with innovative solutions and technologies for mobility, urban planning and citizens. This is the aim of CityTech, a conference which has reached its 5th edition and is organized by ClickUtility on Earth in collaboration with the City of Milan and the participation of numerous organizations and companies as partners and sponsors. The topics that will be examined at CityTech will be linked to mobility with innovative solutions, autonomous, electric and shared mobility, MaaS, urban planning, big data, high tech, sharing and sustainability. The ‘fil rouge’ of the various thematic areas is the development of the so-called ‘digital culture’ that recreates the urban landscape. “The

aim of the event”, point out the organizers, “is to identify, to show and to heed innovative and effective proposals that, giving new value to common areas, whether urban centers or suburbs, can contribute to improve citizens’ quality of life, their connection with the cities or between people “. The Citytech program (currently being defined) «will give the participants the opportunity to listen to the speeches of some of the major representatives of mobility and urban planning sector, to participate to debates, to create networks with colleagues and draw inspiration and useful information to launch new projects». CityTech 2018 will take place on the 14th and 15th of September at the historic location of Fabbrica del Vapore in Milan. In the report on sustainable mobility commissioned by Greenpeace Italy, Milan ranked first. Palermo has instead come out bottom of the ranking

our major Italian cities (Milan, Turin, Rome F and Palermo) were examined by the Wuppertal Institute in the report on sustainable mo-

bility commissioned by Greenpeace Italy and called “Living. Moving. Breathing. Ranking of 4 majors Italian cities on Sustainable Urban Mobility “. According to the survey, which is, in fact, an in-depth analysis of a study carried out last May comparing the sustainability of transport in 13 European cities, Milan ranked first. It outdistanced the other cities (Turin is second, followed by Rome and last Palermo), that show no marked differences between them. Five categories were considered (road safety, air quality, mobility management, public transport, active mobility) on the basis of 2016 data provided by official public sources or through direct communication with municipalities. «This study highlights how sustainable mobility is a very concrete project even in our country where, even if with many difficulties, important innovations are being made and the first plans are approved to overcome, in urban contexts, the use of personal vehicles», said Andrea Boraschi, responsible for the Greenpeace Transport campaign. The good performance of public transport and mobility management affect the good ranking of Milan. The same sectors, instead,

drag Palermo at the end of the ranking. Turin has the highest number of fatalities among pedestrians and cyclists in relation to the population. It is also the city with the most polluted air. As far as atmospheric pollution is concerned, the situation is however serious in each of the cities analyzed “all four exceed, for example, the limit for NOx concentration required by the regulations”. The biggest discrepancies are recorded in public transport, “from Milan, which has a LPT of European level, to Turin, where the service is already less efficient and used, until the crisis of ATAC in Rome, risen to national news, and the very low level of public transport use by the citizens of Palermo. They use personal vehicles for 75% of city travels; the Milanese instead use private vehicles for only 43% of their transfer”. SHARE FOR TRANSPORT MODES

ACCORDING TO CUSTOMER REQUIREMENTS The 100th MAN TGE delivered to the municipality of Kümmersbruck, Germany, has been customized at the MAN Bus Modification Center (BMC) he TGE model by MAN Truck & Bus T is a van launched at the IAA Exhibition in 2016, which is offered also in a combi

version or as a simple chassis and that can be modified on the basis of specific customer requirements. The modification is carried out at the MAN Bus Modification Center (BMC) in Plauen, Saxony, where since April 2017, “each customer request becomes reality”. Up to now, around one hundred vehicles have been modified. The milestone MAN TGE modified in Plauen was, indeed, recently celebrated. The vehicle was delivered to the municipality of Kümmersbruck, Germany, and used to take workers to construction sites, teams to tournaments and for other passenger transport tasks. The vehicle has been equipped with seven adjustable and removable individual seats, as well as a customised interior lining.

The customizations proposed by BMC are designed above all for uses such as: construction-site-vehicles, leisure vehicles and office vehicles, all with extreme attention to details and colors. “Offering such a wide range of custom solutions represents a huge advantage for customers,” said Heinz Kiess, Sales and Marketing Manager at the MAN Modification Center in Plauen. “Here at the BMC there is practically no customer request we can’t make happen. We offer specific solutions for each sector: team transportation vehicles or heavy-duty escort vehicles are two amongst the many custom possibilities.” BMC started operating in 2015 and today about 140 employees work on several fronts: from the modification of back room lounges to Neoplan Skyliner fitted with 20 beds on the upper deck.

SOLARIS FUEL CELL IN 2019

The Polish manufacturer announces the launch of the new generation Solaris Urbino 12 powered by hydrogen fuel cells

response to growing interest of the IN market in emission-free public transport vehicles, Solaris Bus & Coach is pre-

paring for the launch in 2019 of the Urbino 12 hydrogen. A new generation vehicle, deriving energy needed to power the driveline from hydrogen which will be processed in a fuel cell to electric power. The vehicle will also be fitted with a small 29.2 kWh Solaris battery that supports the fuel cell when energy demand is biggest. The drive unit consists of an axle with integrated electric motors with a nominal power output of 60 kW each. The maximum passenger capacity will be up to 80 people. According to Solaris, the Urbino 12 hydrogen will be able to cover a record distance of over 350 km on a single hydrogen refuelling. The manufacturer will use the latest hydrogen storing technologies with composite tanks installed on the vehicle roof - thanks to this step the mass of the tanks will be

reduced by about 20% compared to previous models. In order to optimally reduce the use of energy in the vehicle, the climate comfort system will feature a CO2 heat pump. The system will allow the use of waste heat from the fuel cell. This vehicle represents the continuation and development of a concept which saw the light of day in 2014, when two electric buses Solaris Urbino 18.75 powered by hydrogen fuel cells were delivered to Hamburg (they currently cover bus route 109 on a regular basis). In this case, batteries constituted the basic drive source of the vehicle, while in the new hybrid bus, electric energy propelling the vehicle will be derived from hydrogen and the battery will only have a support function. In 2017, Solaris also supplied the first trolleybus with fuel cells to Riga, Latvia. Ten of these trolleybuses will drive across the capital of Latvia within the year.

THREE BUSES FOR A GOOD TEAM

The latest innovations by Otokar are ready for the Italian market. The touring coach Ulyso, the low floor Navigo LF and the restyled Navigo U. Three good cards to play

he latest innovations branded Otokar arT rive in Italy. The Italian market, for the Turkish manufacturer is the second most

important in Europe, immediately after the French one. It is useful to remember that exports absorb over 70% of Otokar’s bus production (over 7,000 vehicles per year). Over 350 buses have been sold (79 in 2017) in Italy since 2011, where Mauri Bus System takes care of sale and after-sales service. The new buses follow on from what already anticipated at Busworld last year. It is therefore the definitive version of the 10.1-meter Ulyso touring coach, of the small 8.4-meter

city bus which is no more a ‘Concept City’ bus but becomes part of the Navigo low floor series (LF), and of the Navigo U for interurban services, with redesigned front like all Navigo models in class II and III. Ulyso T is the new coach by Otokar that replaces the previous Vectio T (same length) with the other two models Navigo T (7.8 meters) and Navigo Mega (8.5 meters), dedicated to touring services. The qualitative leap is clear as soon as you get on board. The quietness in the interior is excellent, a sign that engine and gearbox have been the subject of an excellent soundproofing work. The same attention was paid èè

to the assembly of luggage racks and interior cladding. In fact there is no squeaking during the ride, even on imperfect road surfaces. It is equipped with comfortable reclining seats with leather headrest and trim, armrest, side handle and individual USB sockets. They are installed on a flat floor that only on the initial part of the aisle has a slight slope to lower the access step from the front platform. The number of seats can vary from 35 to 43 (plus that of the guide) that decrease by four units if the toilet is installed in the left corner ULYSO T

in the rear of the vehicle, in front of the second access door. The audio-video system features a display above the windshield and the other one is hidden in the ceiling in the middle of the aisle. For climate control, it relies on the Eberspächer heater and on the 24 kW Sütrak system, adjustable from the control unit under the driver’s window. The steering instrumentation is well organized, with an advanced instrument panel and plinth embedded in the dashboard for Bosch audio-video equipment. On the right, the cockpit refrigerator and, next to the hostess seat, the cupboard for the kettle. It should be noted that by choosing the ZF EcoLife automated transmission (with buttons on the dashboard), the plinth for the manual gear lever disappears alongside the driver’s seat, making it easier to move towards the aisle. No more MAN engine like in the Vectio T. Under the rear hood of the Ulyso T is now the most muscular 6.7-liter Cummins with power output of 320 hp and 1,200 Nm of maximum torque. It must be underlined that a second full-width top cover for easy access to the engine water filler cap and air filter replacement has been installed. For luggage, there are 5.5 cubic meters of space, accessible from the two doors on each side between the axles, with pantograph opening. èè

The second innovation branded Otokar is the Navigo Low Floor 8.4, different from the 7.7-meter Navigo C which has a raised floor. It thus completes the range of Low Floor city buses including the Kent C models from 10.8, 12 and 18 meters. Inside, the access leads only to the driver’s seat (and two seats behind the driver). On

NAVIGO U

the right there is the engine compartment underneath the windshield. Additional mirrors under the rear-view mirror are therefore essential to keep under control the external right side and the front underneath. Inside it is equipped with 21 Kiel seats and four folding seats in the wheelchair area. On the double front door there is a folding ma-

nual platform. The interior is very bright, the Konvekta climate system is very effective and the standard equipment is complete: from the Eberspächer pre-heater to the MP3 CD radio system, from the thermal glasses (for the driver and the first access door) to the thermal and adjustable rear-view mirrors, from the rear view camera to the cameras for access control. In addition to this, there are also path indicators and validating machine. The front engine (with transmission to the rear axle) is the small 4.5-liter Cummins with a maximum power output of 145 hp and a torque of 632 Nm. It is coupled as standard to the Allison 2100 six-speed automatic transmission plus reversing gear dropbox, but on request it can be coupled also to the Eaton manual transmission. The air suspension acts on axles (the front one is rigid) that mount 17.5-inch tires, with different sizes: 235/70 on the front and 205/75

NAVIGO LF 8,4

twin tires on the rear axle. The EBS braking system acts on front disc brake and rear drums. Up to now there is no retarder. The latest innovation is the ‘face’ of Navigo T and U. We could see it on the 7.8-meter bus for interurban (U) line services. The inverted trapezoid shape of the central satin band remains, but it is now recessed and houses the new optics (also on the rear). The fog lights on the bumper have been moved towards the corners and the plate has been raised. Everything else remains unchanged, starting from the 176-hp Cummins engine, coupled to a six-speed manual transmission or automatic one, on request. More articles about Otokar:

FROM FUTURA TO FUTURA

VDL Bus & Coach modernizes the driveline of the Futura range with the new generation DAF MX11 engines and the ZF Traxon automated gearbox. It gets better and better

he future is a characteristic of its DNA that T constantly adjusts the concatenation of the elements according to this perspective. With all its limits, this metaphor is suitable to explain the evolution of the VDL Futura range, on the market for over 35 years. It was in fact 1982 when it first appeared with the brand of the Dutch manufacturer Bova. About 11 thousand units were sold until 2010, when the VDL group Bus & Coach division was founded, grouping the activities of the VDL brands Bus International, Berkhof, Jonckheere, Kusters and Bova. Since then, over 3,500 vehicles of the new VDL Futura range have been sold.

VDL is constantly evolving both technically and aesthetically, as well as expanding the area of use. Now, for the entire range, the driveline has been adapted to new performance parameters, fuel consumption and maintenance costs, always relying on the quality of DAF and ZF components. The entire range is equipped with the 10.8-liter DAF Paccar MX11 which now offers maximum power values at lower rpm (1,600 rpm) and an extra torque from 50 Nm to 300 Nm depending on the power variant, available from 900 rpm (compared to 1,000 of the previous versions). èè

In more detail, the MX11-270 with power output of 367 hp (270 kW) and 1,900 Nm of torque is fitted as standard on the Futura two-axle FMD2 and FHD2. The MX11300 with 408 hp (300 kW) and 2,100 Nm is standard for the three-axle but is also

optional for the two-axle. Finally, the 449 hp MX11-330 (330 kW9 and 2,300 Nm) can be mounted on request on the twoand three-axle FHD2 and on the three-axle FMD2. Always optionally, it is available for the double-decker FDD2 which mounts as

standard the MX13-390 with 530 hp (390 kW) and 2,600 Nm. The increased performance of the MX11 engines has been achieved by reducing internal friction, completely redesigning the engine block, cooling, air inlet, bearings

and pistons, as well as increasing the compression ratio. To increase the torque, we rely on a new, more efficient turbo, while to reduce fuel consumption and wear, the engine-driven components, such as the oil, water and power steering pumps, are of the èè

VDL SIGNS FOR THE E-MOBILITY OF AMSTERDAM

he largest electric bus fleet T in Europe has been in service since last April 1 in the

Netherlands on the routes of Connexion (part of Transdev) for the Amstelland Meerlanden concession. All vehicles are supplied by VDL Bus & Coach within a single operation. On June 4, 5 and 6, 2018, the Dutch manufacturer offered the opportunity to concession granters, European public transport operators and the international trade press, to give a closer look at this electric bus fleet. At the same time, VDL Bus & Coach showed the role it played as a transition partner to zero emission public transport in this complex and, at the moment, exceptional operation. This order is the most important for VDL Bus & Coach in the electric traction market and has given the manufacturer relevant experience in the area of large e-bus orders. The 100 articulated e-buses supplied to Connexion cover up to 30,000 kilometers per day and are fitted with latest genera-

tion batteries. Quick charging (less than 20 minutes) with pantograph system is carried out at charging points along the routes served by Schipholnet and R-net, allowing 24-hour service. So far, VDL has completed 14 electric mobility projects and the buses currently in operation have reached a quota of 220. These vehicles have already driven more than 10 million emission-free kilometers. In addition to the Netherlands and Germany, the VDL-branded electric vehicles

also operate in Luxembourg. A dozen new projects are currently in the pipeline, for deliveries to France, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and Belgium. The total order book includes more than 160 fully electric buses, and for many of these projects VDL Bus & Coach will also serve as general contractor. This means the manufacturer will not only be responsible for the delivery of the vehicles but also for implementation of the charging infrastructure, project management and repair and maintenance of the entire system. Thanks to the collaboration with VDL ETS (Enabling Transport Solutions), the Dutch manufacturer continues to research and innovate in the field of batteries, charging technology and design of the buses, in order to meet customer requirements. The focus of VDL ETS (a company that is part of VDL Groep) is research, development, prototyping and testing of new solutions, mainly for transport-related heavy-duty activities.

continuously variable type and therefore only engaged when necessary. As for the driveline, the whole range of Futura is now delivered as standard with the ZF Traxon 12-speed automated gearbox (which replaced the As-tronic), with the possibility of requiring the fully automatic six-speed ZF EcoLife gearbox. The ZF EcoShift manual transmission is out of the picture. The new ZF Traxon gearbox also delivers better performance, starting with reduced shifting times and thus the loss of tractive power. The sensors accurately detect the speed to improve the smoothness of the shifting process. This increases comfort and ensures optimum acceleration. In addition, Traxon features the “Hill start”, which assists the driver when driving uphill, taking into account the steepness of the slope and the weight of the vehicle. In brief, it is designed for input torques up to 2,800 Nm and it incorporates the Intarder 3 with braking power up to 600 kW. Compared to the As-tronic, it enables 66% more gear changes, 50% more declutchs, it is 35% quieter (6 dB less) and 20 kg lighter. The combination of the ZF Intarder with the DAF MX11 engine brake, whose power has been increased by 20%, reduces speed without use of the service brake, which is beneficial in terms of reduced maintenance costs. Other changes that characterize the new generation VDL Futura concern the reduction of the total weight of about 100 kg, half of which thanks to the new exhaust after-treatment system, which also occupies 40% less volume, improving the accessibility of the engine compartment to allow maintenance and repair work. The cooling radiator has been moved to the left side, contributing in this regard. The new rear axle reduction of 1: 2.71, which reduces the engine speed to 100 rpm at a speed of 100 km/h, contributes to reducing fuel consumption. These measures result in a fuel efficiency improvement of about 3%. An additional 2.5% fuel savings can be achieved thanks to the Predictive Powertrain Control (PPC), which is available on request.

IVECO BUS - Crealis 18 Hybrid

IVECO BUS - Crossway LE 12 NP romoting sustainable mobility was the aim of Transports Publics 2018, the show that every two years groups the main national and international public transport companies. It is consistent with the institutional commitments that France has made in favor of the ecological transition by adhering to the resolutions taken by the UN COP21 (2015) and COP23 (2017) conferences on climate change. It is also consistent with the indications issued by the One Planet Summit, the summit on climate change support funding that was held in Paris last December. The watchword is therefore “Move Green!” for all the initiatives included in the threeday program of the Parisian exhibition: from low-emission vehicles to a packed of debates and workshops agenda (a day was dedicated also to rail transport), to award ceremonies as far as innovation for public transport and startup for mobility is concerned, and also the awarding of the best French drivers (Bus d’or

2018). 240 exhibitors and 11 thousand visitors (the number has been declared by the organizers) crowded the two pavilions of the Paris Expo occupied by Transports Publics. There were many exhibitors specialized in components and service management systems, in addition to the inevitable French transport companies. Different was the situation for bus manufacturers. Compared to the edition of two years ago, at least five companies were missing, including Volvo and Temsa. Three major in-

ternational brands like Mercedes, Otokar and Van Hool, as well as CRRC and Alstom, were present with a stand but no vehicle was on display. Same choice, but forced, for the major players in the railway sector (Alstom, Bombardier, Lohr).

French at the forefront

FCA Group with the two brands Iveco Bus and Heuliez Bus did the honors. At the opening of the European Mobility Week (12-14 June), Iveco Bus won the “Pu-

HEULIEZ - GX 337 HYB blic Transport Innovation Award” for the sustainability of its new range of Urbanway and Crealis trolleybuses. At Transports Publics they were not displayed but both models were present in other guise. The Crealis was displayed in the 18.4-meter hybrid version with the brand of the ‘Tadao’ network, part of the Bulles project launched by SMT Artois-Gohelle which has purchased 41 units. The hybrid series traction technology is equipped with a 210 kW Tector 7 thermal engine that powers lithium-ion batteries, from which the 200 kW electric motor with ‘stop and go’ function takes its energy and restarts in full electric mode. As for the Urbanway, it was instead displayed in the 12-meter Natural Power version branded Ile-de-France Mobilités, managed by Transdev. Interiors are customised with capacity for up to 100 passengers, 290 hp Cursor 8 CNG engine and, like the Crealis, it is branded OFG (Original France Garantie). èè

At the Iveco Bus stand was displayed also the 12-meter Natural Power Low-Entry Crossway, which debuted at Busworld in Kortrijk last autumn. It is equipped with a 360 hp Cursor 9 NP engine, which is also compatible 100% with biomethane as fuel. With 4 tanks of 315 liters each, it guarantees a range of 500-600 kilometers. Heuliez Bus displayed only electric drives with the GX 437 E and the GX 337 HYB. The first one is a fully electric 18-meter BHNS, with a 160/200 kW asynchronous motor powered by 106 kWh lithium titanate (LTO) batteries. It can accommodate up to 140 passengers and it is equipped with a 300 to 450 kW inverted pantograph system for fast charging. Also the GX 337 HYB is equipped with BHNS front. It is a 12-meter hybrid drive series with a 210 kW Tector 7 thermal engine, a 140 kW generator, 200 kW (0.82 kWh) ELDC supercaps and 120/170 kW electric motor. The two electric vehicles launched by Bluebus (Bolloré group) are also completely ‘made in France’. They are the same vehicles displayed at Transports Publics 2016: a 12- and a 5.5-meter bus, both equipped with lithium-metal-polymer batteries (LPM) with a capacity of 30 kWh each. The 12-meter version is fitted with 8 batteries for a total capacity of 240 kWh, enabling a range of 200 to 250 km and a maximum speed of 70 km/h. On the 22-passenger microbus, there are only three batteries for a range of 130 km and a maximum speed of 50 km/h.

Safra exhibited its 12-meter Businova that since 2011 stands out for the originality of its exterior and interior architecture (4-step raised rear and seats organised as a living room). Two years ago it was displayed in a plug-in hybrid version, with two parallel traction systems (electric and hydraulic). This year it debuted with hybrid hydrogen electric drive system, with 30 kW Michelin fuel cells. The 28 kg of hydrogen stored at 350 bar enable a range of over 300 km. The vehicle on display is part of a batch of 6 units purchased by SMT Artois-Gohelle for the Périgueux built up area. ‘made in France’. The first one is the natural gas-powered D City which is built on the Iveco Daily 65C van. It is equipped with a 136 hp engine, it features lowered central floor, it can accommodate 13 seated passengers, 17 standing passengers and a wheelchair area. The electric version is announced for 2019. The same interior layout for the Dietrich City 23 (and same number of seats), built on Mercedes Sprinter and equipped with diesel engine. To support it, the Modulis 50 on Renault Master, which can accommodate 9 passengers and from 1 to 5 wheelchairs which can be taken on board through the two-part rear ramp.

International players

Among foreign manufacturers, six exhibited their innovations for sustainable mobility. MAN Truck & Bus displayed the 12- and 18-meter versions of its new Lion’s City (see the April issue of BusToCoach Magazine), equipped with MAN EfficientHybrid module to reduce fuel consumption and emissions by up to 16%. The 12-meter Lion’s City with natural gas-powered engine was also on display. Irizar has focused its proposals on e-mobility displaying its 12-meter Irizar electric bus (ie Bus) and the 18.7-meter Irizar electric tram (ie tram), as well as slow and fast pantograph charging systems. About this vehicles and strategies we have written extensively on BusToCoach magazine last June, during the inauguration of the new Irizar e-mobility plant in Aduna. 100% electric buses were again on display for Solaris Bus & Coach, in particular the Urbino 8.9 LE Electric and the new Urbino 18 Electric. Also in this case we refer to what already written last June in the Magazine, during the presentation of Solaris electric buses in Krakow. If two years ago, Scania had exhibited its Citywide LE Hybrid in Paris, this year it was the turn of the 12-meter low floor version with a 280-hp gas-powered engine, compatible with biogas fuel. The natural gas is stowed in four 320-liter tanks and it can accommodate 24 seated passengers, 58 standing passengers and two wheelchair seats. At the Parisian exhibition, Scania signed a memorandum of understanding with Burkièè

na Faso and the Ratp group for the modernization of public transport in the capital (Ouagalais). Still electric buses were on display with the Chinese proposals of BYD and Yutong (commercialised through Dietrich Carebus Group). The first has re-proposed its 12-meter bus with aluminum body, two 90 or 150 kW electric motors on the rear axle and lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries mounted on the roof and behind the rear door. The same size also for the low floor E 12 LF branded Yutong (already seen in Paris two years ago) with all 27 seats on a raised floor, equipped with a 250 kW electric motor and 374 kWh LFP batteries. In the external area was displayed the interurban

ICe 12 with the same electric motor and 258 kWh batteries. These were all the buses on display.

Stand without vehicles

A few other important manufacturers have chosen to be present at Transports Publics in Paris with stands also important in terms of size and reception services but with no vehicles on display. For the Mercedes-Benz and Setra brands, Evobus France has decided to rely on video screens and explanatory posters for their proposals on future mobility. From the Citaro NGT to the Citaro Hybrid and the Citaro Electric (which will be displayed at the IAA in September), until the Citaro

Fuel Cell in 2020. Stand with no vehicles also for Otokar, whose its Vectio C in scale model had the task of highlight the strong presence of the Turkish manufacturer on the European markets. The 9.2-meter Vectio C was also chosen for an important contract with Arriva for the supply of 34 units to be used for public services in Warsaw. Van Hool also exhibited only Exqui.City scale models, a vehicle that in its 18- and 24-meter versions covers all alternative propulsion solutions. From battery electric vehicles to trolley buses, from hybrid diesel and gas systems, to hydrogen versions. The eight 18-meter vehicles that will come into operation in Pau (France) by 2019 are exactly hydrogen powered vehicles. And another ten 24-meter Exqui.City 24 units with CNG-hybrid drive were ordered by Nimes. Next to the stand dedicated to its own proposals for rail transport, the Chinese CRRC has dedicated a space to the promotion of its 100% electric buses with urban versions of 8, 9, 12 and 18 meters and 11and 12-meter interurban high-floor variants. Finally, the proposals for cableway transport systems also deserve mention. The City Cable Car system patented by Creissels Technologies is new. It uses electric vehicles with wheels that run on cables, supported by batteries at the terminals, all in automated mode. Doppelmayr displayed urban funicular railways with ascent and descent without architectural barriers. Design and equipment are adapted to specific requirements. Finally, Poma which construction contracts for urban funicular railways in France (Toulouse, Orléans and Saint Denis de la Réunion) and abroad (Medellin, Guayaquil) are currently underway.
