LETTER FROM
OUR PRESIDENT
The Julien Dubuque International Film Festival welcomes you to our beautiful city of Dubuque! With an abundance of planning and preparation, rest assured we are making every effort to provide a safe, wonderful experience for everyone. The past year has been sobering, and we have all felt the impact of the pandemic - some in the most heartbreaking ways. If this past year has taught us anything, it is that although we may come from different parts of the world we are all indeed connected. Film can be a powerful instrument to raise the voices of those not heard with universal stories not told. JDIFF invites you to be transported around the world through film, where worlds are exposed, beliefs challenged, cultures shared, minds shifted, and hearts opened. The Julien Dubuque International Film Festival is made possible through the loyalty and generosity of our sponsors, the visionary and energetic commitment of our executive director, Susan Gorrell, and a devoted, aweinspiring group of volunteers who are truly the heart of the festival. Please offer a kind word of gratitude to all of them when possible, along with special thanks to the many talented filmmakers who share their works of art with all of us. On behalf of our Board of Directors, we look forward to celebrating this special 10th anniversary with you! We bid you a sincere, enthusiastic welcome and we are so grateful that you have chosen to be with us. May you be moved, enlightened and inspired. Enjoy the festival! BETH GILBREATH / PRESIDENT, BOARD OF DIRECTORS LETTER FROM
OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Welcome to this 10-year celebration of the Julien Dubuque International Film Festival! We have come a long way from the amazing concept begun by festival co-founders 10 years ago, to where we are now -- the largest film festival in Iowa and one of the top festivals in the Midwest! JDIFF has been highly reviewed both nationally and internationally and I am honored that for the past 7 years I have served as Executive Director for this wonderful event. What a privelage it is to screen amazing films from around the world - not only 2021 films, but also to offer an in-person platform for the 2020 films! 2020 was a crazy year, but I’m so happy to have had the support from the JDIFF Board of Directors, community, and our audience for the opportunity to present these great films at a live, in-person event. Thank you all for trusting me and helping to make this happen. My sincere thanks to the incredible JDIFF volunteers who work tirelessly throughout the festival, and some throughout the year, to be sure things run smoothly. Many of the volunteers are also celebrating 10 years of helping JDIFF. Lastly, a BIG thank you to the amazing JDIFF Board of Directors. Thank you for trusting that we could make this happen and for your continued support and passion for the arts throughout the year. I hope that you enjoy the festival, meet amazing people and have great things to tell your friends about your experience here. SUSAN GORRELL / EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR 6

2020 FILMS AT THE 2021 FESTIVAL THEY’RE BACK
When COVID-19 hit in early 2020, film festivals around the world were forced to transition to virtual events. This left many independent filmmakers with nowhere to screen their projects. So this year, we’re making things right. All of our 2020 selections have been invited to screen this year alongside our new 2021 selections. That means three extra days of JDIFF and double the films!
THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSOR:
THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSOR:
HERE’S HOW IT WORKS: • Short blocks will only contain films from one year (2020 and 2021 shorts won’t be mixed together in the same block). • Last year’s sponsor reel will play before all of the 2020 films. New selections will feature the updated 2021 sponsor reel. • The program book lists all 2020 and 2021 films in alphabetical order by category. Acceptance years are designated by the laurels from the year we selected the film. • 2020 and 2021 films that are nominated for awards will compete against each other.
In addition to a broad range of Accounting and Income Tax Services, we also offer: PAYROLL SERVICES
