to its neighbor, Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari. Five miles west of Santa Claus is Abraham Lincoln’s boyhood home. Nearby in Monroe County, the Grant Street Inn— Bloomington’s signature boutique establishment—occupies an entire block of Grant Street, between 7th and 8th, showcasing its unmistakable, iconic yellow exterior. The original section of the Inn began with the “Ziegler house,” it was built in 1883 by William Rogers, Dean of the Indiana University School of Law, and is entrenched in Bloomington’s history. Today the Inn offers 40 different rooms ranging in style from victorianchic to a modern, old-world elegance—no two are alike. Paul Wagoner, Grant Street Inn’s 14-year manager, says, “We are a true representation of Bloomington deeply rooted in the community. Many come for the nostalgic experience, while others claim it’s a ‘home away from home’ that triggers a childhood memory or two.”
Located in the heart of Brown County, and within walking distance to local shops, restaurants, and attractions in Nashville, Brown County Vacation Homes is a collection of three unique lodging options for both individual and group travelers. Perfect for families and girlfriend getaways, Barn Treasures is an 1800s Victorian Farmhouse with five bedrooms and three baths. The large wraparound porch is a popular gathering spot for morning coffee or afternoon wine. Like all Brown County Vacation Homes properties, Barn Treasures is within walking or biking distance to over 200 shops, art galleries and art studios; wineries; music venues; and other attractions. For a true Nashville “inn” experience, book a room at Allison House, built in 1876 by the Allison family, who were prominent figures in Brown County history. This delightful, bright yellow inn has been hosting travelers for more than 30 years, and features seven guest rooms, each with private bath; a gathering room with cozy woodburning fireplace; and a large side deck perfect for relaxing. The newest addition to Brown County Vacation Homes is The Loft at Camelot, a unique venue located right above the Brown County Visitor Center. Once a salon and spa, this space has been cleverly converted into a gorgeous “modern rustic” 5,000-square-foot penthouse suite with six bedrooms, five baths, two balconies, and a large deck overlooking downtown. The open concept gathering room, with large center island and two separate seating areas, is the perfect spot for sharing stories and planning your day’s itinerary. While each property has its own personality, they all offer unique opportunities for group gatherings including family reunions or corporate retreats. Additionally, the owners have put together several packages including wine or bourbon dinners, hands-on arts and crafts workshops, a visit to Donkeytown (just outside of town where you can get up close and personal with adorable miniature donkeys), and more! YOUR THREE DAY ADVENTURE AWAITS IN PULASKI COUNTY FRIDAY
SATURDAY
SUNDAY
Find that perfect campsite or rent a primitive cabin at Tippecanoe River State Park.
Hit the trails for your morning cardio, make a campfire breakfast, then head out for adventure!
After you set up camp, you’ll want to take in the view from the fire tower, hike a trail or two, fish or relax at the campsite.
Go canoeing on the Tippecanoe River. It’s named one of the top 5 most biologically important rivers in North America, based on the cleanliness of its water.
Start your day with a bike ride or brisk stroll down the Panhandle Pathway, a 23-mile paved walking and biking trail. The Pathway follows the old railbed of the Pennsylvania Railroad.
Or if camping isn’t quite your thing, check into the Tortuga Inn Bed and Breakfast which is still located on the riverbank. Be sure to visit Sanders Grocery Store in Winamac where you can get all your supplies for your relaxing getaway. Plus they have a great craft beer selection that won’t disappoint. Ease into the evening with a movie on the big screen at the historic Isis Theatre in Winamac.
Ready to get splattered by paint? Visit Fort Knox Paintball, northwest Indiana’s premier themed paintball facility. They offer a variety of themed fields including the Town of Deadwood, Interstate 85, POW CAMP, Warwick Castle, Bridge on the River Kwai, Bermuda Triangle, Area 51, and more. For lunch, head to One-Eyed Jack’s in Downtown Winamac. The face sized breaded tenderloin is a favorite menu item. They also have more than 50 craft beers available. Grab dinner at either Tippy’s Pizza or Indiana’s oldest family-owned tavern, Bill & Babe’s (21 and over only), which is known for their greasy cheeseburgers and amazing fried fish.

Just south of Winamac, Kostas provides ample portions of standard breakfast fare but also offers a Greek twist to the menu. Let the kiddos run off that last bit of energy at the Winamac Town Park. It’s surrounded on 3 sides by the river and has an awesome playground that features a “swinging bridge” called the Memorial Suspension Bridge. Before you leave Pulaski County stop by Kersting’s Cycle Center & Museum, located in north-central Pulaski County near the Starke County line and State Road 39. They host an amazing collection of nearly 100 antique and otherwise historical motorcycles from nine decades and eight different countries.

FAMILY FUN
Culver provides the perfect backdrop and home base for a fun-filled girlfriends getaway! For day one, plan to spend the entire day shopping downtown Culver. After a filling breakfast at Café Max , start your shopping adventure at Diva , offering the ultimate boutique shopping experience with gifts, home décor, and more. Next, stop in at civvie’s , a small town urban boutique that features hand-picked clothing and accessories. Then head to Gail’s , another great downtown shop for your “Lake Max” souvenir needs. Enjoy lunch at one of several local restaurants, then visit Jonathan’s Fine Arts and Antiques , where you’ll discover a treasure trove of unique items. Next stop is Ace Hardware —yes, Ace! They carry lake decor and signs, lake apparel, Yeti mugs, and more.
Start your visit with a morning walking tour of Culver Academies (call ahead to schedule). Afterward, stroll over to The Lakehouse Grille for patio dining and more views of Lake Maxinkuckee. Plan ahead by bringing portable hammocks to the Culver and Union Township park and enjoy the afternoon relaxing and catching the breeze off the lake.
Day two begins with a walk of the three Culver-area districts on the National Register of Historic Places, then book a guided tour at one of Culver’s two museums, the Culver Academies Museum and Gift Shop or the Museum of Culver and Lake Maxinkuckee History. Later in the afternoon, book a seat on one of the Culver Marina’s History Boat Cruises of Lake Maxinkuckee, or channel your inner-artist at Main Street Studio where you can work on a unique art project.
Bring your bicycles and on day two bike the 12 miles around the lake. Follow that up with lunch at The Original Root Beer Stand , then grab some homemade ice cream at Sallie’s on the Shore and delight in its unique and nostalgic atmosphere. Day three starts with breakfast and coffee at The Culver Coffee Company , the town’s upscale and locally-owned cafe. Next, head over to The Beach Lodge and rent a kayak or stand-up paddle board, and spend the afternoon out on the lake. Swim, paddle, and take in the views. Once you finish, head over to Cafe Max for an evening meal and shopping on Main Street. Consider renting a pontoon boat at the Culver Marina and lunching at the Boardwalk Cafe . You can’t go wrong on the lake! During winter months, plan your adventure during Winterfest , an entire weekend of winter fun with sledding, ice sculpting, igloo-building, and much more.
CULVER OFFERS LOTS OF OVERNIGHT ACCOMMODATIONS, INCLUDING CULVER COVE LAKESIDE CONDOMINIUMS, THE PRIME LOCATION FOR YOUR STAY. RENTAL CONDOS INCLUDE A KITCHENETTE, LIVING ROOM, PRIVATE BEDROOM(S), PRIVATE BATH(S) AND A PERSONAL DECK WITH A VIEW OF THE LAKE.

This is lake country, so on-the-water recreation options are abundant. Before diving in, step into American Table , voted the area’s “best breakfast” restaurant in 2018. Try their strawberry stuffed pecan almond pancakes. Burn off calories on Winona Lake or Pike Lake with a kayak float or a stand-up paddleboard. The Lake House in Winona Lake rents kayaks and SUPs. Refuel at the Chicago Dog House , founded by a retired Windy City police officer with a fondness for the namesake hot dog.
Free lunches may be gone, but plenty of free opportunities await the adventurous. After a Midwest-style breakfast at B-Mac’s on Buffalo , head to Gardens at Central Park with its halfacre garden, and beach where you can swim, picnic, or launch watercraft at the Center Lake access site. A few good Frisbee flings away is Lucerne Park’s disc golf course along Pike Lake. Zale Drugs Luncheonette offers daily lunch specials and thirst quenchers like old-fashioned soda and phosphates. There’s no limit at Winona Lake’s Limitless Park , a universally-accessible playground with beach, basketball court, tennis, and K21 Splashpad.
Wake up with the chickens over breakfast at Creighton’s Crazy Egg Café , an offshoot of Creighton Brothers egg business that began in 1925. Next, explore the area’s many scenic hiking or biking trails. Chinworth Bridge Trail , a two-mile paved route, starts at an iron-truss bridge across the Tippecanoe River which is on the National Register of Historic Places. Winona Lake Mountain Bike Trails offers a 10-mile network of single-track zigs and zags, and the nearby Heritage Trail is an easy 1.8-mile trek that skirts Winona Lake. Get even closer to nature at Pisgah Marsh , with its boardwalk that accesses the area’s diverse habitat (grassland, marsh, lake and forest) which is a great birdwatching site. Take a breather at the Syracuse-Wawasee Historical Museum (Native American artifacts, mastodon tooth, and more) and then skip across the street to the Syracuse-Wawasee Trail or a swim at Syracuse Lake Park beach. Dine at Chubbie’s Pub & Grub or Peterson’s Fish , top it off with a hand-dipped gourmet treat at Joe’s Ice Cream Supreme , and finish with a relaxing cruise on Lake Wawasee aboard Oakwood Resort’s SS Lillypad .
Next stop? North Webster and an afternoon of muskie fishing with Webster Lake Guide Service guide Chae Dolson, who’s chased these monster fish for 25 years. Pilcher Shoes is another must stop in North Webster, especially for hard-to-fit shoe sizes. Visit other quaint shops before a patio dinner at Lakeview Restaurant & Pizza King . Then jump aboard the Dixie Sternwheeler, for an evening cruise. Top off the day with a dish of hand-dipped ice cream at Sheila’s Sweet Treats & Diner.
Rocket Fizz is a mid-afternoon magnet with
bottled sodas, some with unique flavors like bacon and sweet corn. A taste of authentic Mexican cuisine sets Taqueira El Comal apart as a dinner destination. Premium hand-dipped ice cream is the standard at Kelainey’s Sweet Dreams in the Village at Winona Lake. Round out the day watching the Lake City Skiers free performance of their award-winning routines at Hidden Lake.

Debbie’s Handmade Soap
Elm Street Brewing Co.
Debbie started making soap in 2000, inspired by her daughter who had terrible Eczema on her hands. She tried everything to heal it, and eventually created a bar of soap that lathered wonderfully and had a high amount of the oil to make the difference—Olive Oil, 50%—and it worked! Debbie now shares these very soaps at her storefront/soap factory in downtown Muncie, Indiana. Debbie’s biggest reward is making a product that not only smells wonderful and is beautiful, but is actually beneficial to the health of her customers.
Elm Street Brewing Company has been described as one of the most unique atmospheres in the Midwest. Built within a restored 19th century ice house, the entire experience is art, from the building to the beer and food.

It’s connected to the Horizon Convention Center and the Muncie Children’s Museum. “We’re not a typical Indiana Main Street community,” says Vicki Veach, executive director of Muncie Downtown Development Partnership, which helps make things happen by partnering with other organizations and agencies versus the typical committee structures. The goal for “DWNTWN, The Original Muncie,” a recent branding campaign, was developed to create an environment resulting in sustainable economic and cultural growth. Like many cities, Muncie suffered from the national ’80s and ‘90s mindset which sent not only residents but also businesses to the outskirts of town. In addition, the infrastructure was

Even in the bad times there were events, but the arts and entertainment scene has exploded in recent years. The Muncie Arts & Culture Council, created in 2009, is an arts partner to the city and actively encourages art of all forms through projects that include the Muncie Arts & Culture Trail, PlySpace artist-inresidency program, and That One film festival. “Art is for everyone,” says executive director Braydee Euliss. “It inherently adds value to everything on earth.” The Cornerstone Center for the Arts, in the former Masonic Temple, is all about art education with about 100 different classes that include visual arts, dance, music, theater, even martial arts. “Arts education is our number one priority,” says director Jeff Robinson. “We like to consider ourselves ground zero for the arts in Muncie. We believe art is vital to a student’s education.” Inclusivity is big at the newly renovated Muncie Civic Theatre. “We’ve always had Main Stage productions and an incredible emerging youth education program,” says business manager Nick Fatout. But there was no space for growing that youth program. Marketing director Britany Covert adds, “So in 2011 we changed our mission to be the theater for the whole community, which really changed the focus for us. The theater is now Indiana’s only barrierfree theater with, for example, moveable seating to accommodate wheelchairs, ramps to allow actors access to the stage, and elevators. “We reached out the community, and they reached back,” Covert says. “They rallied around us; they’re the only reason this renovation was possible.”

The Muncie Three Trails Music Series is a free concert series July-September. It’s at Canan Commons, downtown Muncie’s urban park, which also hosts community and cultural events, al fresco films, and “Foodie Fridays” concerts during warmer months. Forms of art are visible in downtown storefronts, too. Heidi Hale moved her online jewelry design business, HeidiJHale Designs + Details, to Walnut Street in 2015. The
front of her shop showcases her wares; behind the counter, open for all to see, are her crew members who design jewelry and fill online orders. “Our really big thing is handwriting on jewelry,” Hale says. The message created by its author, in that person’s handwriting, is transferred via laser to a necklace or bracelet or other piece of jewelry. “We thought it would be fun,” Hale says. “What we did not anticipate was the emotional connection. It is so much more than just a piece of jewelry.” Debbie’s Handmade Soaps also had an online presence. Owner Debbie Acree started making soap because her daughter suffered from eczema and nothing seemed to help— until Debbie found the perfect formula. For 17 years she worked from her home. “I had so many people stopping at my house—I thought, ‘I’ve got to get regular hours, a regular place to do this,’” she says. Two years ago she moved downtown. It’s also an unofficial tourist information hub. “Anybody that comes downtown gets sent here to ask where they can go.” Dining possibilities, to name a few, include Vera Mae’s Bistro and The Neely House: offering “love, beauty, and food” in the restored 1850s Neely Homestead. Elm Street Brewing Company is in a former ice house. “We firmly believe that the more success we have in the center of the city—the heart of the city—the better it will be for everyone as the successes radiate outward,” DWNTWN’s Veach says.

Indiana,” says town manager Jonathan Leist. But right now winter is on the town’s mind, with the annual Culver Winter Fest on Feb. 8-10. If Mother Nature does her part, the festival’s star will be ice. On the lake for ice fishing. On the rinks for skating. In ice sculptures spread throughout the small town. And if Mother Nature decides to take a break and the weather stays warm, well … the festival is still fun. The town makes snow, and maybe the ice sculptures just melt a little faster. No matter what, says Liz Beauchamp, owner of The Garden by Elizabeth and Chamber of Commerce president, “The stores are warm if you don’t like the cold.” Cupid’s Crawl entices shoppers further with the chance to win a shopping spree. This area is known as the “Crossroads of American History” and its history helped shape America. The Historic National Road, which linked the eastern seashore with the western frontier in the 1830s, passes through the heart of the area offering a glimpse into our nation’s past. The city embraces its history, and visitors can experience it for themselves at many Richmond attractions. The Wayne County Historical Museum houses storied artifacts such as an original Conestoga wagon pioneers used as they trekked westward on the National Road and early 20th century Richmond-made airplane and cars. Home of the legendary Gennett Recording Studio, Richmond made its mark with music superstars like Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington and Jelly Roll Morton. The Gennett Walk of Fame honors these and other legends. The three-dimensional bronze and colored tile mosaic markers on the trail are shaped like 78 rpm records and are accompanied by a small bronze plaque identifying the artist and their contribution to the history of music. In addition to history, Richmond boasts a world-class art museum, famous rose gardens, large collection of Tiffany windows, and more. Boutiques and unique shops add to Richmond’s charm and provides endless shopping pleasures. Richmond’s Historic Depot District and downtown Richmond are booming with new eateries and trendy shops. Greenfield was chosen as the county seat of Hancock County, Indiana, in 1828. Since those humble beginnings, the city has grown into a diverse community offering vibrant leadership, an energetic economic environment, and a collaborative atmosphere between businesses, education, community, non-profits and government. Greenfield is bisected by the Historic National Road (U.S. 40), and much of its downtown area has been recognized as a National Register Historic District. It’s the site of Hoosier Poet James Whitcomb Riley’s boyhood home and takes much of its character from the influence of Riley’s legacy and the Victorian era in which he lived. It’s also home to an active and expanding arts community and is the site of the annual Riley Festival, one of the largest festivals of its kind in Indiana. In Greenfield you’ll enjoy antique shops, museums, farmers markets, locally-owned eateries, art fairs and music festivals, orchards, chocolate walks, and so much more. And of course, here you’ll find the James Whitcomb Riley Birthplace Home and Museum, where the beloved “Hoosier Poet” and creator of such characters as “Little Orphan Annie” and “The Raggedy Man” spent his boyhood years, gaining the experiences that would later propel him onto the stage beside the likes of his good friend Mark Twain. The Riley Home and the adjacent Museum provide many artifacts of Riley’s life and times and offers a glimpse into the origin of his works.

Angie Manuel, Chief of Interpretation for Indiana State Parks, recognizes that people don’t always think of “winter” and “state parks” in the same sentence. “It’s a challenge in a good way, one that we set for ourselves, to keep people coming to our state parks (in the winter months), because many think we aren’t open. We have to give them reasons to remember how cool we are all year,” Manuel said.

about state parks in the winter include unique events, warm cabins and inns and getting to see a different side of nature not seen at any other time. Whether you’re a hardy camper who wants to rough it with the challenges of nature or a casual hiker who just wants to get out of the house and avoid cabin fever, Indiana’s state parks have the lodging and events to help you enjoy the wonders of winter. One reason to remember state parks in the winter is the toboggan run at Pokagon State Park. Open through Feb. 24, the run has about 90,000 riders every season and operates with or without snow. It has a 90-foot vertical drop from its start and operates Fridays 5:30 to 9 p.m., Saturdays 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Rates are $13 per hour and you are guaranteed at least one ride. Now people are camping in April and sometimes even in March, and parks are offering more events because of it.” But even if you think it’s too cold to spend too much time outdoors, state parks still have events to offer. “We offer many indoor activities, and guests are still being connected with the park through a workshop or an indepth learning opportunity such as building a bird house or a bat house,” Manuel said. SHELBYVILLE – It’s all on the back of the T-shirt: 50 years. 18,200 days. 3.7 million cups of coffee. 1.6 million pieces of chicken. 273,000 breaded tenderloins. And 10 million smiles. You’ll find it at Chaperral Café in downtown Shelbyville, a staple in this community since 1968. That’s when a local banker approached Shirley Bailey to suggest she open a restaurant. It had been her lifelong dream, and people knew about it— although she never expected it to actually happen. But 31-year-old Bailey was already well known in the community as someone who served giant portions of love and camaraderie along with food in
the eateries where she worked. But when the banker called and told her he had a place she might be interested in, she told him she didn’t have much money. “’Don’t worry about the money,’ he told her. ‘I’ll write you up a little note and you can pay me whatever you can.’” The banker had already been in touch with a building owner—a building with a bar open 24 hours a day. “It was so bad I wouldn’t go in it,” Bailey says, and she told him, “You know how I am about that drinking.” He laughed and said he was sure she wouldn’t have a problem. The next thing she knew, the owner remodeled the

when or why she knew she wanted to have a restaurant; she just knew. “When I get older, I’m gonna’ have me a restaurant,” she always thought. “Nothing fancy,” she says even now. “I wouldn’t know how to fix a fancy meal. It’s just plain old country cooking.” Signature meals are the tenderloin—be sure to specify the Stardust tenderloin, created by Bailey when she worked at the Stardust drive-in—and fried chicken. There’s also a buffet, and breakfast items are available all day long. Coffee is served in big mugs, not a one of them matching. Clientele includes just about every segment of the community. “A little bit of everybody,” Bailey says. Doctors, lawyers, the mayor, church people on Sunday—“the whole 9 yards.” Every day a group of guys comes in to drink coffee and chew the fat. Morning starts early at the Chaperral. It hadn’t even opened its doors yet—back in 1968— when Bailey got a visit from postal worker Bob. He’d heard the restaurant would open at 5 a.m. “How can I get to work if you don’t open until 5?” he asked her. “I won’t have any place to eat.” “What about 4?” Bailey replied. “Do you think 4 would work?” So she opened at 4 a.m. For more than 30 years Bailey would have Bob’s breakfast sitting on the table for him when he’d
TOP CHEFS
In March 2018 Bailey celebrated the 50th anniversary of her restaurant with an open house that offered free food to everyone. “I did something that I’ve always wanted to do,” she says. “That is to put food out and let people come in and eat what they want. They were lined up. And I felt so good.”

come in. He had a half hour for lunch, and she’d have his lunch sitting on the table for him, too. Bob is retired now, and he’s a widower. Bailey tells him to come in to the restaurant because “there will be someone here who will always talk to you. And if there isn’t, I’ll put you to work washing dishes.” So he continues to come in. When he leaves, he always pats Bailey on the shoulder and says “good-bye.” And she replies, “Hurry back.” Rachael Ackley from Visit Shelby County tourism says she knows why the restaurant has succeeded for so long. “When people come in here, they feel that
someone loves them,” she says. Bailey and her husband, who was a construction worker, raised two children. The kids helped name the restaurant – after a television Western titled “High Chaparral.” They were so young that “my daughter would tip-toe to reach the tables.”
Daughter Marsha Chaney works at the restaurant with her mother, Shirley Bailey.
“This is home,” daughter Marsha Chaney says. “My brother and I were raised here. We ate every meal here. I used to say that if the Welfare knew, they’d probably take us away because we never had any food at home.” Now that daughter works in the Chaperral with her mom. Chaney has tried to convince her mother to take a vacation, but it’s never worked. And retirement? Not a thought. “I still look forward to comin’ down here every day,” Bailey says. “It’s been a remarkable 50 years. The Lord has blessed me in many ways, and I ain’t kidding anybody. I thank Him every day.”
The Stardust tenderloin is huge—lightly breaded, moist, tender—and a staple at Shelbyville’s Chaperral Café. 68

While Indiana offers lots of outdoor attractions during winter weather, those who may not be so keen on cold temperatures can still get out and play. just because it’s cold outside. At French Lick/West Baden Indoor Karting in West Baden Springs, you don’t need a reservation to enjoy tracks that are tailored to specific age groups. So if your crew mixes multiple generations, this may be a good choice. Group rates start at ten people. Carlin Conrad, general manager for the Indoor Karting, said: “We’ve got a track and electric karts for four- to sevenyear-olds and they go three miles an hour. They have hand controls instead of foot controls.” For the 8- to 13-year-old set, there are karts that go 20 miles 70

Older ages can get up more speed, about 40 miles per hour, with some races targeted for licensed drivers. “It’s an active sport,” Conrad said, “It’s more about racing other people. People get downright aggressive at times.” Indoor water parks are another great option for exercise and fun in winter. “The Abe Martin Lodge in Nashville has a fun swimming pool and mini water park,” said writer

9 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. for a flat fee and unlimited games. Also in Fort Wayne is the Botanical Conservatory. With new exhibits four times a year, there is plenty to discover. Especially in the winter when their main exhibit garden becomes an oasis for families to play and enjoy. White River State Park in Indianapolis covers 250 acres and offers lots of indoor options, including the IMAX Theater at the Indiana State Museum, where theater-goers experience Indiana’s largest movie screen towering more than six stories tall. There’s also the Indianapolis Zoo’s 5,000-squarefoot Hilbert Conservatory, the Eiteljorg Museum, NCAA Hall of Champions, and more. Even if you don’t consider yourself an artist, families have loads of fun spending an afternoon creating artwork. Several “paint your own pottery” studios are located throughout Indiana, including Fired Arts Studio in Kokomo, where you can also create mosaics; Paint the Towne in Richmond; All Fired Up in West Lafayette; and many more. There really is no reason to act like a spud in Indiana with options like these, and many more if you do your own research. Several from this list came from this writer’s callout on Facebook. For over 20 years French Lick Winery has enjoyed the spotlight as one of Indiana’s premier wineries. Today, they share that distinction with a sister brand, their award-winning distillery, Spirits of French Lick. Established in 2016, and one of Indiana’s largest artisan distilleries, they feature a double-pot still process—a popular method prior to prohibition— using primarily Indiana-grown grains. “Respect the grain,” is a business mantra they live and breathe by. “Distillation is agricultural, and our motto is, ‘Respect the grain’. From field to glass we present to you the finest in small batch American distilling, bringing both quality and tradition back to our state,” explains John Doty, owner of Spirits of French Lick. Featuring four pillars: bourbon, brandy, botanicals and American whiskey, and with Indiana’s only commercially-made absinthe, Head Distiller Alan Bishop shows his chops, after nearly 20 years mastering the craft. The Lee W. Sinclair, a four-grain bourbon with a mash bill of corn, wheat, oats and specialty barley malt, is their flagship product. It is also a powerful testimony to the historic Sinclair, once a prominent French Lick businessman, responsible for making

Heavy-bodied and full-flavored, this brandy is destined to delight with notes of candied apple, hazelnut and toffee, and a rich, fresh apple aroma. And purchasing Spirits of French Lick products is not limited to locals. Online buying can be made at www.seelbachs.com , with distribution to 33 states. From single-pass distillation, Calvados-style apple brandy, to the citrus-forward Old Tom Gin, and the Scandinavian-influenced Aquavit, Spirits of French Lick is carving a name for themselves in an industry where whiskey was once called uisce beatha —Gaelic, for water of life. www.spiritsoffrenchlick.com
