WELCOME
It's hard to believe the first decade of the 21st century is over. The last 10 years have brought inventions that make our life easier (Google, smartphones) and others that some may argue are a waste of time (Facebook, Twitter). Other less
lauded inventions have had a big impact on our lives as well. A Decade of Invention delves into a few, includinq an architectural marvel in Seattle. Seattle is also one of our Fitness Meccas. These cities entice the healthy set with the number of outdoorsy opportunities available, whether it's mountain climbing, kayaking or simply running. Being outdoors also puts you in contact with a city's green spaces. Explore some of the best gardens you may never have heard about in Blooming Treasures. They include one that inspired the Taj Mahal and anotherthat has been described as a mini version of the Claude Monet garden found in Giverny. The French influence is still evident in the mysterious and at times overwhelming city of Marrakech. Since the '1960s, as described in The Lure of Marrakech, many travelers have been attracted to the city's unrivaled shopping, exotic cuisine and intricate architecture. The last 10 years have seen tourism in this Moroccan city greatly increase. Plan your
trip soon.
Maybe your next trip will be about more than just sightseeing. An increasing number of travelers are trying voluntourism, or traveling to volunteer for a charitable cause. Adventures in Voluntourism points out organizations such as Global Citizens Network that specialize in connecting travelers with communities in need.
Of course, traveling is always enriched by eating the local cuisine. Take it one step further and learn how to cook a region's emblematic dishes. Many cities offer fun classes that give insight into the traditions and culture of a place. Our feature, A Taste of Local Culture, describes classes offered in Santa Fe, Laguna Beach, Manhattan and Vancouver. I hope you enjoy reading the magazine. Sincerely,
/-fu Rosa Rojas
