LATINJOURNEYS BY TRAVEL PROJECTS
MEXICO, CENTRAL AMERICA & CARIBBEAN I
n this 2019 edition we are starting to refresh our brand name to reflect a more meaningful name that better reflects the destination we are offering. Mexico and Central America are home to a rich tapestry of cultures from the agrarian indigenous tribes that live much as they have done to the African descendants that have called it home since the 17th century whilst the heavy Spanish influence can be felt in the charming colonial towns dotted throughout. Dating back some 4,000 years, the ancient Maya culture has left its mark in the form of remarkable ruins of temples reached by towering staircases and intricately carved stone structures that are slowly being claimed by the sultry jungle. The Caribbean islands are famous for their magnificent climate, spectacular beaches, idyllic seascapes and diverse flora and fauna. The unrivalled warm, calm waters provide the perfect environment for the colourful underwater coral gardens that attract divers and snorkellers from all over the world. The vibrant cultures and exotic natural highlights of the Caribbean make any trip completely unforgettable. A visit to one or more of the islands – either exclusively or as an extension to a trip to Latin America - is a perfect way to relax and unwind. To help you get the best out of your trip, we have a team of well travelled and enthusiastic travel consultants to will suggest the best known attractions and the less travelled places‌ Kind regards,
Ed Garcia & Hanna Shilo Co-Managing Directors.

TOP DESTINATIONS Mexico with its rich and varied culture is a must see destination in the region for anyone who is interested in ancient civilizations. Food in Mexico is a wonderful culinary experience and the beautiful romantic colonial cities and towns, never to be forgotten. Neighbouring Guatemala offers similar features but has a much more pronounced indigenous population. In recent years, Cuba in the Caribbean has received a huge influx of interested tourists and Nicaragua, once inaccessible is now a popular destination. Costa Rica is the most popular nature destination in Central America.
Central America and the Caribbean offer the best of ancient cultures and ruins, sunny white sand beaches with crystal clear turquoise waters, jungles with exotic birds and animals and idyllic colonial towns – remnants from another time. Not only is each country vastly different geographically and culturally; the populations also vary greatly from Hispanics, indigenous peoples from pre – Colombian times, populations of African descend and people that have European heritage. Although Spanish is the language predominantly spoken, there are many dialects and ancient languages in places such as Mexico and Guatemala. A dialect of pigeon English is spoken in Belize and in some of the Caribbean islands, the main languages are English, French and Dutch...
OTHER PLACES WORTH VISITING Central America and the Caribbean Islands have something to offer to every visitor. For the music lovers, Cuba and the Dominican Republic are usually a high priority as these two islands are renowned for the music of Salsa and Son in Cuba and Merengue and Bachata in the Dominican Republic. All of the Caribbean islands offer the most magnificent beaches and luxury resorts for the beach lovers.

The May-September period can be hot and humid, particularly in the south, and inland temperatures can approach freezing during December-February. Facilities are often heavily booked during Semana Santa (the week before Easter) and Christmas/New Year, the peak domestic travel periods. Mexico’s climate has something for everyone: it’s hot and humid along the coastal plains, and drier and more temperate at higher elevations inland (Guadalajara or Mexico City, for example). Try to avoid Mexico’s southern coast between July and September – the resorts are decidedly soggy and jam-packed, as July-August is also the peak holiday months for foreign visitors.

There is more to Jamaica than reggae, Rastafarians and honeymooners. Fringed with white-sand beaches, the island has year-round sunshine, misty mountains, a lush rainforest, and superb coffee. In the west, lazy Negril showcases its long beach, coconut groves, and clear waters. Partygoers gravitate to Montego Bay with its colonial architecture, bars and nightclubs. Cruise ships dock at Ocho Rios for its golf courses and water park, while Port Antonio’s proximity to the lush Blue Mountains appeals to eco-lovers. The capital, Kingston, is an edgy contrast. Head to the north and west coasts for diving and snorkelling in clear waters with reefs, garden grottoes, and deep drop-offs. Laze in the sun at Doctor’s Cave Beach, where placid water invites leisurely swimming. Inland, Rose Hall Great House, perched on a hilltop overlooking Montego Bay, gives a glimpse of the heyday of plantation living and even has a resident ghost. Reggae legend Bob Marley’s spirit is kept alive at his birthplace, the mountain village of Nine Miles.
