The Big Red Seat Appeal / Theatre Royal success for 2012
After 30 fabulous years, we’ve found that certain areas of the Royal Concert Hall would benefit from a little love and attention. We have a whole programme of restoration and refurbishment planned, from our Box Office to backstage, but our first project is designed to benefit you – our loyal and much-valued audience. The Big Red Seat Appeal aims to raise enough funds to replace all 2,500 seats in the auditorium. The cost to replace each seat is £300 giving us a fundraising target of £750,000. Nottingham City Council has pledged to match-fund all donations, so every £1 you give becomes £2! The fundraising is well underway now, but we still need your help. HOW YOU CAN HELP We need to ask for your generous support to help us reach our target. As much or as little as you give, every donation will be essential to us in reaching our goal, and every single penny of your donation will go direct to The Big Red Seat Appeal fund.
Box Office: 0115 989 5555

Theatre Royal Bath Productions and Chocolate Factory Productions present
By Mike Leigh Directed by Lindsay Posner
Richard Bean’s award-winning play is a glorious celebration of British comedy: a unique, laugh-out-loud mix of satire, songs, slapstick and glittering one-liners.
Starring Hannah Waterman, Martin Marquez, Samuel James, Katie Lightfoot, Emily Raymond After a triumphant West End run, Lindsay Posner’s acclaimed revival of one of the most popular plays ever written returns to Nottingham. Mike Leigh’s comedy became an instant classic when it first appeared as a BBC ‘Play For Today’ in 1977. It is a ruthlessly accurate observation of the pretensions of suburbia, a world obsessed with class and taste and ruled over by the monstrous Beverly.
Fired from his skiffle band, Francis Henshall becomes minder to Roscoe Crabbe... but Roscoe is really Rachel, posing as her own dead brother... who’s been killed by her boyfriend Stanley Stubbers. Francis spots the chance of an extra meal ticket and takes a job with one Stanley Stubbers. To prevent discovery Francis must keep his two guvnors apart. Simple? Not really. WINNER – ‘Best New Play’ Evening Standard and Critics’ Circle Awards

Blood Brothers
Written by Willy Russell, the legendary BLOOD BROTHERS tells the captivating and moving tale of twins who, separated at birth, grow up on opposite sides of the tracks, only to meet again with fateful consequences. The superb score includes Bright New Day, Marilyn Monroe and the emotionally charged hit Tell Me It’s Not True.
Few musicals have received quite such acclaim as the multi awardwinning BLOOD BROTHERS, with Bill Kenwright’s production having recently surpassed 10,000 performances in London’s West End; one of only three musicals ever to achieve this milestone. It has been affectionately christened the ‘Standing Ovation Musical’, as inevitably it ‘brings the audience cheering to its feet and roaring its approval’ (Daily Mail).

Hurtling along at breakneck speed it follows the backstage antics of a touring theatre company as they stumble their way through rehearsals, to a shambolic first night in Weston-super-Mare, and a final disastrous performance in Stockton-on-Tees.

In The Taming of the Shrew two disguised, competing suitors clamour for the hand of beautiful Bianca, whilst gold digging Petruchio agrees to wed her viciously ill-tempered sister Kate sight-unseen. The difference between marrying for love and marrying for money, however, becomes increasingly difficult to judge.

One of Shakespeare’s best loved comedies of love and confusion, Twelfth Night tells a tale of mistaken identity, transformation and deception. With a man playing a girl disguised as a boy, illusion and reality are almost indistinguishable. Dark and delightful, the play asks ‘What happens when you fall in love with the wrong person?’ and the answer is both beautiful and bittersweet.

Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra Conductor Vasily Petrenko Piano Denis Kozhukhin
Vasily Petrenko makes his first appearance in Nottingham with his acclaimed orchestra, beginning with Rossini’s magical La Boutique Fantasque. A more poignant toy story is told in Stravinsky’s classic ballet, Petrushka, which contains some of the composer’s most evocative and moving music. Prokofiev’s popular Piano Concerto No.3 was written around the same time as these two ballets and this virtuosic piece makes great demands of the soloist. In this case it’s the award-winning Denis Kozhukhin whose standout Prokofiev performances have marked him for greatness.
