Fees & Family Arts Festival/Family Open Day
Following a review of our booking fees we have revised our charges and made it clearer and more transparent for you, our customers, to make decisions when booking tickets. The policy came into effect from 1 July 2013. The majority of our ticket income is passed directly back to the producers of the shows, so we have chosen to charge a small administration fee which is retained by the Theatre Royal and Royal Concert Hall as we do not have the ability to include these costs within our current pricing structure. This small charge helps us to continue to offer a box office facility rather than having to refer customers through to external booking agencies where the fees are much higher.
Friday 18 October – Sunday 3 November We are delighted to be part of the inaugural national Family Arts Festival. For more details please visit www.familyartsfestival.com
• A £1 administration fee per transaction will be applied to all online bookings through our website www.trch.co.uk • A £2 administration fee per transaction will be applied to all phone and counter bookings • A 75p card transaction fee for all tickets paid for with a credit/debit card • A charge of 50p to post your tickets (we are able to hold your tickets at the Box Office for no additional charge if you prefer) • Our Access Customers Wheelchair users and registered disabled customers will be charged a reduced £1 administration fee (plus a 75p card transaction fee if payment is made by credit or debit card) when tickets are booked in person or by phone as we are unable to process these concessions through our website. Proof of eligibility is required for concession tickets. Please note that some purchases are exempt from our administration fee including Celebration packages, educational events, some foyer events and transactions of £12 and under. Other purchases are exempt from both the administration fee and card transaction fee including Royal Friends tickets, group bookings (20 or more) and school/educational groups. Music & Lyrics in association with The Mayflower Theatre, Southampton present
From the award-winning producers of The King and I and High Society comes a new production of one of the world’s favourite musicals, directed and choreographed by Craig Revel Horwood – (Strictly Come Dancing). The show stars the acclaimed actor, director and writer, Paul Michael Glaser (Starsky in the iconic Starsky & Hutch), in the lead role of Tevye.
Directed and Choreographed by
CRAIG REVEL HORWOOD
Tevye, the local milkman in his village of Anatevka, has always stuck by his traditions. But, when his head-strong daughters decide that they want to marry for love rather than accept whatever Yente – the Matchmaker – dictates, Tevye is forced to convince his wife, and the villagers, that their decisions need to fall in with tradition. This is not an easy thing to do but if anyone can do it, the wily Tevye can! Filled to the brim with classic songs including If I Were a Rich Man, Matchmaker Matchmaker, Sunrise Sunset and To Life, Fiddler On The Roof was the longest running production on Broadway for over 13 years. When you join Tevye, his family and friends, you will understand why. www.fiddlerontheroof.co.uk

By E. R. Braithwaite Adapted by Ayub Khan Din
With Matthew Kelly as the Headmaster and Ansu Kabia as Ricky Braithwaite Based on E. R. Braithwaite’s autobiography and brilliantly adapted by Ayub Khan Din (East Is East), To Sir, With Love tells the story of Ricky Braithwaite, a Cambridge graduate and ex-RAF fighter pilot, arriving in London in 1948 and discovering what it means to be black in post-war England. Turned down for job after job in his chosen profession as an electronic engineer, Ricky begins his first teaching post, the only job he can get, in a tough but progressive East End school. Supported by an enlightened headmaster, the determined teacher turns teenage rebelliousness into self respect, contempt into consideration and hate into love – and on the way, Ricky himself learns that he has more in common with his students than he had realised. In 1967 To Sir, With Love was made into a major film starring Sidney Poitier. www.touringconsortium.com

As a young boy living in Africa, Bertie rescues an orphaned white lion cub, but is forced to part with it when sent to boarding school and the lion is sold to a circus. Felicity Kendal and Simon Callow star as two people who have something in common: the affair that exists between their spouses!
Set in burgeoning 1950’s Paris, Chin Chin tells the often hilarious and ultimately disastrous effect of the affair as the jilted couple rendezvous in a Paris apartment to set the world to rights, and where they declare their independence in life, and in love. By Dan Patterson and Colin Swash Directed by Terry Johnson
The Duck House is an outrageous new laugh-out-loud comedy set in a world of dodgy receipts, dodgier deceit, and pure Parliamentary panic. May 2009. Gordon Brown’s Government is in meltdown and a General Election is just one year away. Labour backbencher Robert Houston loves being an MP and will do anything to save his seat – including change sides. All is going well with his switch from red to blue, until, the Expenses Scandal breaks. As public fury mounts over taxpayers’ millions being frittered away on second homes, moat-cleaning, cable porn and duck houses, Robert is soon in big, big trouble. Ben Miller (BBC 1’s Death in Paradise and The Armstrong and Miller Show) leads an all-star cast as the MP who’s got it all – and has claimed for most of it. Tony and Olivier Award-winning Terry Johnson (Hysteria, End of the Rainbow) directs this hilarious satire from two writers who’ve been making fun of politicians for decades: Dan Patterson (BBC 2’s Mock the Week) and Colin Swash (BBC 1’s Have I Got News For You and Private Eye).

Peter Grimes
A Midsummer Night’s Dream
Death in Venice
Set in a small fishing community on the English coast, this opera is an utterly absorbing, emotionally compelling experience not to be missed. Britten’s atmospheric music takes powerful inspiration from the sea, vividly portraying the human drama unfolding around the outsider Peter Grimes.
Oberon, the fairy king, and Tytania, his queen, are locked in a conflict which spills over into the human world. Shakespeare’s witty words and Britten’s mesmerising music come together in this colourful and vibrant production where costumes and music are equally sparkling.
Gustav von Aschenbach, a novelist in crisis, leaves Munich for Venice in search of fresh inspiration. Aschenbach is captivated by the beauty of both the place and Polish boy Tadzio. Britten’s sensual final opera is tinged with mortality, and an exotic orchestral score conveys the story to great dramatic effect.

Russell Brand: Messiah Complex World Tour 2013
‘Messiah Complex’ is a mental disorder where the sufferer thinks they might be the Messiah. Did Jesus have it? What about Che Guevara, Gandhi, Malcolm X and Hitler? All these men have shaped our lives and influenced the way we think. Their images are used to represent ideas that often do not relate to them at all. Would Gandhi be into Apple? Would Che Guevara endorse Madonna? Would Jesus be into Christianity? Should we even care what they think considering Gandhi slept with naked girls in his bed, Malcolm X dealt drugs and Che Guevara smelt funny?

Russian Patriarchate Choir
Founded by Anatoly Grindenko in 1983, The Russian Patriarchate Choir of Moscow consists of 12 members, including Grindenko. As well as performing both in Russia and internationally, the singers are dedicated scholars of the repertoire for male voices who led the way in the rediscovery of Orthodox Church music in the late years of the Soviet regime. At this time – when this music was far from approved by the government – the choir spent years decoding ancient manuscripts and giving the first performances of works that had lain in obscurity for centuries. With the collapse of the Soviet Union came the opportunity for them to perform internationally and bring this music to a wider public. ‘The fine male voices create a powerful atmosphere of energy and devotion, of fluency and a spontaneity that effectively blends refinement with rawness’ The Daily Telegraph Tickets £22 – £14
