Friday Fest by Main Street Fort Pierce
The Fort Pierce Farmers Market is open every Saturday morning from 8 a.m. until noon, rain or shine. We are located along the beautiful Indian River in Historic Downtown Fort Pierce at Marina Square just across from the Fort Pierce Library. You’ll find plenty of FREE parking at the Avenue A.

BE THOSE THAT VISIT TUTTO FRESCO

You know it is going to be a good experience when there are suited valet runners as you approach a restaurant; this is no exception. Seven days a week, at Tutto Fresco; conveniently located immediately west of the I95 exit on St. Lucie West.

With several distinct “zones” within the restaurant, there is a space and time of day for all in this anchor venue of the PGA area in Port St. Lucie. The back enclosed patio hosts several local regulars that enjoy the fans and camaraderie after an afternoon of golf, yet in time for Happy Hour (available throughout the entire venue from 2-6pm daily). Yet this space is big enough to host large networking groups equipped with music, televisions, and its own bar on one side and private tiki party room/communal space on the other.

Insidea large bar accented with liquors of all kinds, giant multi-screened television, pizza oven, and table seating for nearly fifty. Through the hallway, a linen covered dining room abounds. Big enough to host a party of nearly 150, reserved often for weddings and gatherings, it is elegant yet non-pretentious. Separated by a sleek, built-in wall with sliding doors, you will find the “Mafia Room.” It is quintessential Godfather class from its art on the walls to the statues outside the window; perfect for groups up to thirty people.

My guest and I were greeted by the daughter and son of owner, Joey Gambina. Joanna and Francesco clearly take pride in their family’s awardwinning restaurant and caliber of their team. Alex, our server, presented Saratoga flat water and brought a crisp, New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc (White Haven) out with all the pizazz you would want when feeling a bit fancy in the main dining space. The impressively sized clams, bathing in a white wine butter sauce full of shaved garlic and fresh parsley, were perfectly steamed and created the ideal broth for dipping with Tutto’s signature garlic loafs. Just as impressive, yet the extreme opposite, Fra Diavolo Mussels were dancing in their dish. Topped with cherry

tomatoes and peppers, inside a flavorful light broth, laced with garlic; these slightly spicy morsels were addicting. Though, the Caprese Salad, with fanned creamy buffalo mozzarella slices layered between locally grown tomatoes and accented by a light salad; all drizzled in a rich balsamic glaze.

The Chicken Tutto Fresco. Pan seared to perfection, then topped with slivered garlic, mushrooms and sun dried tomatoes the true stars of the dish were the jumbo blackened shrimp and crab meat chunks, delightfully drenched in a creamy white wine and lemon garlic sauce.

The Salmon Piccatta was also a hit! Grilled for a crispness that cut the oftenstrong profile this fish can give, it was evenly seasoned with everything needed to make a big eyed, “I love this” face! Alongside the generously sized salmon, halved artichokes crisped on the grill with fresh lemon were the perfect accompaniment.

As a fan of odd numbers, the third entrée could steal anyone’s heart. The Cappellini Positano, with pasta spun in a blush sauce and topped with blackened jumbo sea diver scallops and shrimp crowned the dish. Pan seared mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes and garlic brought this pasta entrée to a new level when mixed with the cream sauce. Best part, no guilt. Reasonable pricing and portions with stellar service, which included attention to detail like ground pepper, shaved parmesan and classy to-go packaging that feels fancy to unpack once home.

Ending any meal of this caliber with anything other than a limoncello and/or coffee should be illegal. We did both. Sip on some airy cappuccino and savor the Kahlua Coffee Cake, with a chocolate mousse that is somehow dense yet light. Or enjoy other sweet endings like the Italian Lemon Cake with its terrifically tart custard or the decadent Tiramisu. Salute!

After taking my dog “Boo” for is regular vet visit, I thought how essential the maintaining of his health and preventing illnesses or diseases was for our everyday routines. My vet provides an opportunity for a thorough examination of his physical and any behavioral health and most always helps to catch any potential health issues before they become serious. During the visit, the vet checked my dog’s vital signs, such as heart rate, temperature, and respiration, and perform a physical examination to check for abnormalities or issues. Although I did not need to have diagnostic tests, such as blood work or x-rays, to further evaluate his health he checked out really good, and I was able to ask questions about the upcoming allergy season approaching.

When I was sitting in the office waiting for our turn, I noticed that some dogs were stubborn and not happy being in the office for their appointment. So, I decided to talk about the visit to the vet, and what might help you and your furry friend.

CAUSES AND HOW TO MANAGE THEM

The cause of this stubborn behavior can vary from dog to dog. Some dogs may have had negative experiences at the vet, while others may be experiencing fear or anxiety due to unfamiliarity with the vet’s office and equipment. In some cases, the behavior may be caused by a lack of socialization, where the dog has not been exposed to various people, animals, and environments.

By understanding the root cause of stubborn behavior during vet visits, owners can address and alleviate their dog’s fear and anxiety and make the experience a positive one for both the dog and the owner. Below are some ways to make a dog’s vet visit easy by understanding the cause of stubborn behavior, preparing for the visit, and training and desensitization techniques. These suggestions are aimed to help dogs to feel more comfortable and confident during vet visits, which in turn can help to improve the overall health and well-being of your furry friend.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

Start the vet visit by acclimating your dog to the vet office and familiarizing them with the tools and equipment used during a visit. Some training and desensitization that can help to reduce your dog’s fear and anxiety and reinforce positive behavior during the vet visit.

UNDERSTANDING THE CAUSE OF STUBBORN BEHAVIOR

Understanding why the behavior may be caused by fear or anxiety, a past negative experience, or a lack of socialization.

Fear and anxiety can manifest differently, such as growling, biting, or refusing to stand still for an examination. Dogs that have had negative experiences at the vet may associate the vet’s office with unpleasant or painful experiences and may become anxious or fearful when they are brought back. It is important to address the negative experience and work to change the dog’s association with the vet’s office.

A lack of socialization can also contribute to a dog’s stubborn behavior during vet visits. In addition, dogs that have not been exposed to a variety of people, animals, and environments may become anxious or fearful when faced with unfamiliar situations. In such cases, it is important to provide opportunities for socialization, such as taking your dog to training classes or dog parks, to help them become more comfortable and confident in new environments.

Sound desensitization, which can be done by playing recordings of common vet office sounds, such as the sound of a stethoscope, at a low volume and gradually increasing the volume over time. This will help the dog to become more comfortable with the sounds associated with the vet visit.

Scent desensitization is another technique that can be used. This can be done by exposing the dog to common vet office smells, such as disinfectant and other cleaning products.

Reinforcing positive behavior during the vet visit, such as sitting calmly or lying down, can help strengthen the positive association with the visit.

By understanding the root cause of stubborn behavior during vet visits and trying different things such as acclimating your dog to the vet’s office, familiarizing them with the tools and equipment used during a visit, and using desensitization techniques, owners can help to reduce their dog’s fear and anxiety and make the experience a positive one for both the dog and the owner.

Reinforcing good behavior while visiting the vet can help to strengthen the positive association with the visit. It’s important to remember that all of our furry friends are unique and may require a different approach. Patience and understanding are key to creating a positive association with the vet visit.

REALTOR RV TRIP HEAVEN ON WHEELS

For 30 days and nearly 7,000 miles, our 24-foot Winnebago camper was our vacation home on wheels through 22 states from Florida, Texas and North Dakota to New York and North Carolina. Our 6th annual RV trip started Aug. 17 at a fast pace and rarely decelerated. For me, it was the best time to go. Real estate business in the summertime is typically slow. Plus, most public schools are back in session so no worries about campground vacancies.

With my hubby at the wheel and me as navigator, our mission was two-fold: Get together with family and friends; and cross off tourist attractions from our bucket list. Fortified with food, fuel and travel tunes, we crossed one, two and sometimes three states a day. Long days on the road were well rewarded. Before stopping in South Dakota, I had only seen Mount Rushmore in the 1959 Hitchcock thriller, “North by Northwest.” The 60-foot-high granite

faces of Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln make a powerful spectacle of democracy and patriotic pride.

Sixteen miles away, the Crazy Horse Memorial is a work in progress also in the Black Hills and will trump the size of Mount Rushmore. When completed, the tribute to the Lakota leader will be the world’s largest sculpture. Mother nature was not to be upstaged. In NY, we gazed in awe at the power and rage of Niagra Falls. Tubing the gentle, spring-fed Comal River in New Braunfels, TX was two miles of pure fun. In NC, we hiked to Linville Falls, one of Blue Ridge Parkway’s most popular waterfalls. In Missouri, we tracked down Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow’s former hideout in Joplin where in 1933 the gang killed two police officers in a shootout. In Independence, we visited the “Summer White House” home of President Harry S. Truman and ate at his favorite cafe. The Jesse James home and museum in St. Joseph showed us the parlor where the notorious outlaw was gunned down in cold blood in 1882.

We walked the somber Civil War battlefields in Gettysburg, PA and Antietam, MD and imagined the horrific fighting and precious loss of Iife. Harpers Ferry, WV refreshed our school-book lessons about abolitionist John Brown who in 1859 waged a heroic but ill-fated battle against slavery.

Sad vibes from real life events were uplifted with fiction. As a big fan of the TV show, “Dallas,” I toured Southfork Ranch in Parker, TX from the grounds and Ewing Mansion to museum to see the gun that shot J.R. The hometown of Andy Griffith in Airy, NC is a proud tribute to the actor

and the make believe TV town of Mayberry from souvenirs and police car rides to the “Loaded Goat’’ restaurant.

But the biggest thrill for me is the unexpected.

On a tour of the Battleship USS Alabama in Mobile, AL, I was thunderstruck to learn Hollywood actor Robert Mitchum once stood on deck to film the 1988 TV miniseries, “War & Remembrance.”

BBQ at an Austin, TX restaurant was even tastier knowing our dining room was the Emporium pool hall in “Dazed and Confused,” a 1993 comedy film with budding stars Matthew McConaughey, Ben Affleck and Yellowstone’s Cole “Rip Wheeler” Hauser.

And in a roomful of antiques in a Louisiana eatery, I spied a Winchester girth in a modest frame with a legendary past. In 1937, champion racehorse Seabiscuit wore the saddle accessory to beat Triple Crown winner War Admiral by four lengths.

EXPLORING THE TREASURE COAST

& BEYOND

Clermont, FL. was just about two hours of a drive from the Treasure Coast, yet it felt like being transported to the northern states. Home to the Palatlakaha River, the 54th river in our journey of going down all 103 rivers in the Sunshine State, the Lake Louisa State Park would be a great place to stay for a camping getaway. Yet, you must plan. Even with trying to book our trip with eight months of advance notice, it was not possible to find an open spot there, so we found an open spot at a local mobile home park for the weekend.

Come Saturday morning, we packed our cooler, equipped with mini corned beef sliders, and grabbed our extra blankets as we set off to river roam. The boat ramp and park were well maintained, with functioning restrooms and fishing pier for folks without a boat; very nicely done. Once in the water, it was an instant immersion in old Florida. With freshwater jigs and the sun warming our cheeks, we saw an interesting mix of old estates equipped with the Florida cracker style of a bygone era as well as sprawling modern lakefront homes; super captivating to witness as we slowly roamed. The chain of lakes we meandered through were far bigger than we had expected and was full of bass fishing boats, you could tell plenty of the locals had their top spots secured early. From Lake Susan to Lake Louisa, the Palalakaha River was a real delight to journey through, including random fun signs and stuffed

animals nestled in branches as we roamed; just a cool experience all the way around. Perhaps one of the best aspects of these monthly journeys is the ability to support local businesses while we visit.

So, our final night there we set off to the Clermont Brewing Company. It happened to be a downtown business stroll night, full of lights along with people walking and talking with such joy; always fun to witness. Once inside, we were given a high-top table in the main dining room with views of their many televisions and impressively run kitchen. As my husband watched the football game, we ordered one of each of their claim to fames and was shortly thereafter greeted by the chef who was impressed with our selections. His appreciation for our enthusiasm was so great that he brought out one of his favorite featured cocktails as a gift. It was called Whoopsie Daisy with cucumber and gin; it was delightful! In fact, all the food and service were on point with the pizzas being our favorite.

Heading home, we took HWY 27 and saw more mobile food trucks, mobile barbers, mobile coffee

Breakfast for January was held at Piper’s Landing Yacht and Country Club. Our guests were treated to a spectacular spread of breakfast foods including bacon, eggs, sausage, fruit, and pastries. We always know we’ll have a fabulous breakfast when we’re at Piper’s Landing. Our first speaker was Rebeca Beckett with HJ Sims. Rebecca is a Certified Financial Planner and sponsor of our Women in Business summits. Rebecca reminded us to prepare our finances for today and to plan for the future. Rated one of the top 100 outdoor art shows in the nation, we are lucky in Vero Beach to have such an active art club that works year-round to make this annual show a smashing success! With weeping branches from Live Oak trees hundreds of years old overhead, upwards of 50,000 visitors will be strolling through the dirt paths of Vero’s Riverside Park viewing incredible artwork from all parts of the globe. For the past 72 years, the Vero Beach Art Club hosts

Under the Oaks, a Fine Arts & Craft Show. Open all day, Friday through Sunday: March 10, 11 & 12, 2023 art lovers, minus their pets, will be browsing and finding treasures to cherish. With over 200 artists from across the nation, it is a must attend, free event that provides ample parking and an impressive culinary corner featuring local caterers and food trucks.

Yet, this massive show is not the only activity the art club brings to the Indian River community. With their headquarters, located in the heart of the Historic Arts District, this art driven non-profit has been a staple since 1936 and has continually developed programs and classes to serve its neighbors. For fans of the outdoor art experience, visit Vero’s Ocean Drive, Humiston Park on March 26th and April 2nd for the final Art in the Park, Fine Arts & Crafts Shows, 10 AM – 4 PM.

Do you prefer sipping wine while casually visiting galleries in the early evening? Well, look no further than the ever popular, 1st Friday Gallery Stroll along Main Street from 5-8pm monthly. It is a downtown Vero tradition since 2004, where local residents meet gallery owners and featured artists with exciting exhibits with music in the background and dedicated parking in the city’s lot just east of 14th Avenue.

For art fans of a younger age, the VBAC has created a Jr. Membership for ages 12-17 with meetings held the third Friday of each month at 5:30pm from October through May (excluding January). With instruction and projects conducted by various artists, the children learn a variety of art forms and benefit from mindful mentors.

Additionally, camps are produced each year for Spring and Summer breaks. Starting June 5th, 2023, there will be seven weeks of camps, minus 4th of July week. For just $120 a week, with financial aid available, it is a total immersion of art Each day offers different exciting activities for your child; ages 5-12 years old 10am-12:30pm.

With something for everyone from kids to adults, volunteers to working artists, the Vero Beach Art Club welcomes everyone to get involved. Find a class to do with friends and bring some wine or have your child explore their passion for art during summer vacation, there are a multitude of main events and small sessions to partake in. For just $50 a year or $500 for a lifetime membership to the VBAC, one can help support the club’s efforts, over 500 members strong, in a variety of ways.
