ocal businesses are the cornerstone of Bronte. They create jobs, spur innovation, and drive traffic to our waterfront, restaurants, and community. Many, in fact, are family-owned and operated. Their stories are inspiring, their courage admirable – and we’re so happy to share more of that with you here.

Taste of Colombia tasteofcolombia.ca | 67 Bronte Road This quaint, South American-style café located next to the Bronte boardwalk is truly something special. Founded in 2012 by a Colombian native, Yury Wu-Parra dreamed of bringing the best coffee and the best of her Colombian culture to Canada. Yury’s family works alongside her at the café, where clients can “taste” Colombian culture as soon as they walk in – from the aromas to the flavours, vibrant colours, and Latin music. Everything from their coffee to their nibblies is organic and fair-trade, you can feel good about eating here.
MedNation Home Healthcare mednation.ca | 78 Jones Street MedNation is a newly founded family business with a strong passion for helping people. Uncle and nephew duo, Ali and Ameer Alwash, were motivated to open the business after seeing members of their own family struggle with health issues throughout the years. MedNation provides the equipment and services to enrich the quality of in-home aging for a loved one.

Shopper’s Drug Mart shoppersdrugmart.ca | 2297 Lakeshore Road West Passionate about working in a “small-town,” Shopper’s Drug Mart owner, Jimmy Bedi, and his wife Prabh took over the Bronte location in 2017. Over the years, as both a business owner and resident, Jimmy has gotten to know his patients on a personal level and often sees them while out for walks and bike rides. As a community pharmacist, Jimmy plays an important role in the continued health care of his patients and has worked to create an accessible health experience for Bronte residents.
Maurya Indian Twist mauryaindianresturants.com | 2309 Lakeshore Road West Maurya Indian Twist is a family-owned restaurant run by Sandhya Nair. Sandhya’s aunt opened the original location 15 years ago in Toronto and today, they have six locations from Toronto to Hamilton. Sandhya opened the Bronte location in January 2020 – just before the pandemic. Maurya offers traditional Indian cuisine, wrapped in a WestIndian concept, (paneer makhana nachos, anyone?) hence the name ‘Indian Twist!’

Flavour Fox theflavourfox.com | 77 Bronte Road The Flavour Fox was established from a desire to create a place where people can come to unwind, relax and reward themselves with a flavourful assortment of dessert experiences. Owner, Rano Dandybaeva, and her team do this by providing the highest quality and variety of artisan gelato flavours, including vegan, gluten-free, and soy-free flavour options that are crafted daily in-store with love. Rano is also a new mom, and from time to time you can find her sweet little one behind the counter. Currently located on Bronte Road, this familyowned favourite is relocating to 2464 Lakeshore Road West in the fall.

Planted Aquaria plantedaquaria.ca | 2350 Lakeshore Road West For years, husband and wife, My and Tom Tran, have been building aquariums in their home; ones designed to reflect the natural habitats of their fish. It only felt natural that the couple would take their love of aquatics and turn it into a business. Planted Aquaria isn’t your average 'pet store'. It’s Oakville’s only aquarium and a place where My and Tom can help people understand fish ownership. Their store sells trusted products and healthy livestock (many of their fish are sourced right here in Ontario). By the way, keep your eye out for their sweet 6-month-old baby (who is often helping mom and dad at the cash register).

MOVING
Bronte FORWARD
O
n the Treaty Lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit River, Bronte Village was established in 1834 and its harbour area is one of Ontario’s oldest and most scenic lakeside communities. Although still charming, Bronte has experienced growth since its humble beginnings as a fishing village. Now home to over 13,500 residents, 175 businesses, and a stunning recreational harbour – Bronte is a vibrant community where everyone is welcomed and everything you need can be found. In January 2021, the Bronte Forward! outreach and engagement campaign was launched to capture the future vision for Bronte and how it can be it’s very best. This includes keeping Bronte walkable and connected, celebrating its local vibrancy, embracing inclusivity, and harnessing development for a better future – including two exciting new developments starting this year.

RESIDENCES AT BRONTE LAKESIDE
Soon, the buildings between 2368 - 2380 Lakeshore Road West will become a four-story retirement home with ground-floor retail. With approximately 800 to 1,000 new residents moving into the community, the districts look forward to celebrating the arrival of new businesses. Bronte will also become home to the Residences at Bronte Lakeside – an elegant 6-story boutique condominium at Lakeshore and Bronte Roads. Diane Bertolin, Marketing Agent for Bronte Lakeside, says the building will hold 203 units along with groundlevel commercial space – bringing new residents and businesses to the area. While change can always be a little nerve-wracking – the evolution of Bronte will bring new friendships, new experiences, and new faces to our community. And, that’s certainly something to celebrate.

ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING STATIONS Bronte is home to two electric vehicle charging stations. Located on Bronte Road at Marine Drive and on Ontario Street at Nelson Street, two vehicles can charge at the same time at each station.
CURBSIDE QUICK STOPS Curbside quick stops allow you to pull in and do a 20-minute pick-up or take-out from your favourite local restaurant or business. Please don’t park here if you plan to stay longer.
RESTRICTED SUMMER PARKING
ake a minute before you leave home to know where to park your car (or bike!) once you arrive for your visit. Bronte has hundreds of parking spots waiting for you.
To ensure local residents have parking during the summer, look for signs restricting parking on side streets near the waterfront. Towing and fines in effect. There’s plenty of free parking for visitors at Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park.
ON-STREET PAID PARKING
PRIVATE PARKING LOTS
Bronte has curbside paid parking throughout the district. These parking spaces help promote turnover and ensure there are spaces for customers of nearby businesses. Look for the pay-by-plate machines. Use the HONK mobile app to make it even easier.
Many businesses have free parking in their commercial lots. These are privately owned and for customers of the adjacent stores, restaurants, and businesses only while on the premises. Look for signage and check with the business you’re visiting to ensure you've parked in the right spot. While these lots might be empty, don’t be tempted. The cost of towing isn’t worth it!

OAKVILLE WIND ORCHESTRA SUMMER CONCERT SERIES Oakville Wind Orchestra oakvillewindorchestra.ca info@oakvillewindorchestra.ca The Oakville Wind Orchestra (OWO) is back in action! For dozens of years, the Orchestra put on summer concerts at the Bandshell in Coronation Park. A few years ago, due to flooding in the park, the OWO needed to find another venue. Stephen Williams, president of the OWO, says it worked with the Town of Oakville to find another location and decided on Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park. He adds, “This is a great venue. It’s in an accessible location with parking and room for a large audience. People can also enjoy dinner before or after the 7pm concerts. We have felt very welcomed in Bronte and our audiences have grown.” If you’re looking for a culturally enriching (and fun) Tuesday evening for your family (or a date night), pull up a lawn chair near the gazebo in the park and take a musical journey through the ages!
