“MAMI CREATES THE
PERFECT FANTASY OF BEAUTIFUL COUTURE.”
We are pleased that Mami Jewell has given us an interview for this TREND issue. Mami Jewell is a well recognised name in the world of fashion in Second Life along
with her brand AZUL. AZUL is undoubtedly a favourite fashion brand in formal evening wear. Wearing an Azul creation means to be well-dressed and elegant.

It would be very difficult not to look amazing in one of Mami’s fashionable gowns. Mami’s offerings at Azul range from the drop dead sexy to elegant to dramatic. She has mastered the prim, using sculpties and flexis with ease, allowing her design to dictate the prims rather than the reverse. Her texturing is unparalleled with shadows running over the prims and into the system pieces seamlessly. Mami has an elegantly beautiful avatar, as you would expect from her designs. She is frank and authentic in her approach and unbelievably
sweet. It’s always fun to talk with her. No matter how much stress she has, she is always friendly and patient. Despite her success Mami stayed down to earth. She started her Second Life in March 2007 after she heard of it from a friend in Brazil. She found it challenging to create something in a virtual world. In November 2007 she opened the very first Azul shop. For a while Mami was a designer in Styles of Edo, and closed Azul from summer to November of 2008, reopening it in December 2008. Now Mami has opened a new flagship AZUL store.
6

Florentine Rau The new store has open spaces that make shopping more fun. Mami is very committed to “Help Japan” after the earthquake, the ensuing tsunami and problems with the power plant that happened on March 11th, 2011. For this project she has created exclusive designs that she sells in her shop. She also is committed to the Cancer Society. Mami has generously contributed to Fashion for Life in the past with her designs and has continued her generosity with a VIP Sponsorship for RFL. Further more Mami is renowned for the gowns she has designed for a number of the finalists of the Miss Virtual World contest run by The BOSL group , such as Miss Virtual World 2009 Mimmi Boa , three of the finalists for Miss Virtual World 2010 including 1st Runner-up Sora Tatham. Most recently she designed the formal gowns for Miss Virtual World 2011 winner Serene Faith, 1st Runner-up Louise McWinnie, 4th Runner-up Tania Tebaldi and a top 12 finalist Blossoms Sweetwater. Accolades that have come Mami’s way: at the beginning of 2010 she won the VAIN INC.’s readers’ choice for Best Female Formal Wear of 2010 and more recently she was selected in April 2011 as the BEST FEMALE FASHION DESIGNER in the BOSL AWARDS 2011, plus “-AZUL- Sora” was selected as one of the 20 most beautiful dresses ever designed in Second Life.
We sincerely thank Mami for taking the time to be interviewed. Florentine Rau-Offcourse

Florentine Rau INTERVIEW: 1. What is your secret to blending timeless and trendy styles? First of all, thank you so much for having me to Trend magazine and give me a chance to speak about myself ! About my design, I had never been struggle to find my idea. Always something is in my head and i just keep it until I have a chance to make it in Second life. Maybe although it may be shameful as a designer/ creator, but I don’t follow or read fashion magazines in real life. I don’t try hard to create something, I just put my idea into my creation and I’m sure all my idea come to me through my eyes what I see, listen in my ordinary life, and I blend them with my taste.
2. Who or what has influenced your style the most? A beautiful photograph, a scene of a movie, something very simple yet impressive images gives me influence. I even can not remember what was that, but I still have some ‘picture’ in my mind.
3. What is the best fashion advice you’ve ever heard and who gave it to you? It was a long time ago, when AZUL was small brand, I received message from customer. She said she used to enjoy my creation and she was proposed when she was dating with her boyfriend. And she is going to pick bridal gown for her wedding. She told me how my creations are always around her special moment in Second Life. I had been making what I like that moment when I was new designer, honestly I didn’t think ‘what customers wants to wear’ so much.

Florentine Rau However my idea was changed completely by that message. Since then, I search and take the result from sales or by blog/Flickr how people enjoy my creation, which item, which color...:) Customer’s opinion and compliments are the best advice for me. 4. What one item should be in every woman’s closet? An elegant dress that can express you the best. 5. What is your favourite accessory for a woman to wear? To wear with formal dress in Second life? Then ‘Virtual Impressions’ ! It is the best formal look for formal wear, especially for AZUL gowns :) You will see how elegant and detailed they are. 6. What do you find eternally stylish? For me, the eternally stylish is the style that woman can feel her elegance and gorgeousness inside of her, and the style which she can have confidence. 7. If you could pick one fashion icon to be for one day, who it would be? And why? I had never thought to be someone else... :( 8. What are the most important elements for being red carpet ready? The highest and the things you love the most for the confidence to yourself, and you who complete it :)

Caoimhe Lionheart “Merriam Webster describes an accessory as an object or device not essential in itself but adding to the beauty, convenience, or effectiveness of something else. But, in the modeling world, an accessory can make or break an outfit. For this article, my dragon, Draakje and I decided to take a two prong approach to accessories. I traveled in a more cursory course, mainly showing some of the items I found whilst out window shopping, and Draakje is going to show some accessories in use.

Draakje Dailey “Rather than a long winded list of the items I have on, I labeled the pictures, and the point is, Merriam Webster isn’t necessarily correct. Sometimes with a very good accessory, the clothes take second place and the accessory can be the focal point. It is just a way to play with fashion and to create your own style. We as models are at a very exciting time in Second Life, with the introduction of mesh, the products available have become even more robust and realistic. “
6
5
Caoimhe Lionheart “In Draakje’s first picture she is wearing a gorgeous necklace from Finesmith. The necklace, is called “Organic” and is shown in Black Leather. Like most jewelry from Finesmith the product is substantial so it stands well on its own and needs no further accessories. Draakje’s only concession to the look, is to add the matching ring. Wanting to keep this style simple and earthy, Draakje has donned the N-Core “Euphoria” boots in an Automne shade. Showing her keen eye for style, she wears her hair down, stating to the world that she is an Earth Mother.”
Draakje Dailey

Caoimhe Lionheart
Draakje Dailey “Draakje’s second fave accessory she wanted to share is a jewelry set from Kungler’s. The necklace and earring set, called “Nightingale” is simply divine with its riche golden chain and dripping floral accenting. As is usual of Kungler’s every attention was paid to the details of this item and I can see why Draakje would choose it, the quality shows. “
6
5
Caoimhe Lionheart Draakje’s third “must have” accessory is a hat. She simply loves the hats from !*Bliss Couture*! And currently is wearing the “Mezzo.” The hat is light, scrumptiously feathered and ultra-feminine, creating a nice fan about the wearer’s face. Hats are such an incredible accessory because they add just the right touch of mystery to a person’s face.
And Finally, the one accessory any up and coming Diva couldn’t possibly be seen without? Their very own Chihuahua! I hope you have enjoyed this light hearted look at accessories, because we enjoyed bringing it to you!

Carolina Sautereau Styled by Carolina Sautereau Trendy for only 1000 Linden Dollars More and more women and men need help finding clothes and putting looks together. Looking good has become more challenging nowadays. The components of style aren’t easy to find. In today’s Second Life, stylists and fashion bloggers have become almost important as the SL designers. Fashion bloggers are privy to fashion news and trends weeks before the rest of SL residents. They give us an idea how to style and they can be our inspiration. There are many fashion blogs in Second Life. Some are simply outstanding and worthy to be introduced. So our idea was to invite the best Second Life bloggers and asked them to put an outfit for only 1000 Linden Dollars together. In this issue we would like to introduce one of the best SL Fashion Bloggers: Carolina Sautereau.
6
5
Styled for 1.000 $l Fashion is in Carolina’s blood. She started to play Second Life in 2007 and always enjoyed putting clothes together. In 2009 she was invited to work with the „SL-a-porter“ team and discovered her passion for the virtual fashion world. In january 2010 she decided to create her own blog called „Carol’s Style“ (http://carolstyle.wordpress.com). We first saw her blog a several months ago and were impressed. She always creates sensous, stylish, sexy and alluring looks. Look carefully at her photographs. Imagine you would take the clothes of her outfits piece by piece and put them back. See how important each piece is in her outfits and how together they deliver an authentic message of style. Learning to create looks is difficult. Part of it is instinct. But quite a bit is learned. That’s the beauty of this columne. With this, Carolina is the first who takes the place of a styling teacher. Carolina is our style guru, who always looks insanely groovy. Now she will show us how to dress to the nines with little money. She will teach us that style doesn’t have a price tag. The key is learning how to work what you have – how to put it all together – and not to be afraid to stand out as an individual. We gave Carolina a little challenge with putting an outfit together for only 1000 Linden Dollars. See the awesome result below. Florentine Rau-Offcourse

“THE GLAMOROUS
FASHION OF THE ROARING TWENTIES THE RETURN OF THE FLAPPER GIRL”
When you look back at the bygone decades, you either remember the political liberation, the historical restructure or the fashion.
The way society’s men and women dressed, the shoes they wore, the parties they attended and the wine they drank.

The 1920s is particularly a time of great changes in the fashion world of woman with the introduction of new styles, designers, and perspectives. This is mainly due to the independence that the woman had gained. As such, the TREND Magazine is looking at a revival of the „modern-flapper“ and also for the potential for the influence of 1920s fashion to dominate part of 2012′s fashion trends. As the focus shifted from the war to social life, fashion became a main focus of the majority of woman during the 20s, which is evident in
the novel „The Great Gatsby“. In the not too distant future a new interpretation of „The Great Gatsby“ will grace our cinema screens in real life and with it will come a renewed interest in 1920s fashion. The much awaited film adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s „The Great Gatsby“ promises to relive the 1920s magic. Director Baz Luhrmann is helming a lavish remake of the classic. First published in 1925, the novel cleverly encapsulates the opulence behind every character.

Florentine Rau Fitzgerald used colours and styles of outfits to describe the glamourous lifestyle of the roaring Twenties. Much of the novel „The Great Gatsby“ was devoted to describing the glamorous styles of the party guests and their great concern for their appearance. Nick says at New York after Myrtle’s outfit change that, “with the influence of the dress her personality had also undergone a change“, which shows the significance of the fashion of each character. The color and style of their outfits were used to express characteristics of different characters. The growing independence is also evident throughout the novel. Nick describes women at Gatsby’s party, “...dancing individualistically.” The 1920s brought with it a ring of independence, sexual emancipation and life. People realised they want to live life to the fullest. The decade is remembered, perhaps even romanticised, for being all about sex, alcohol and jazz. After the horror of the First World War, people intended to make up for all the time lost. This overwhelming desire to bounce back brought about transformations that awestruck the world. Architecture became more aerodynamic, modern technology took over households and the female wardrobe underwent a momentous alteration. Even though books may argue that „youth culture“ gained popularity in the 1960s, Hollywood movies and TV shows set in the 1920s seem to argue otherwise. People lived a fast paced lifestyle, secretly consumed excessive amount of alcohol and danced the night away to live jazz at the bar. But the real excitement was the birth of a flapper girl. And we are now looking for her return. Let me tell you something about a flapper girl. The dictionary defines a flapper as - “A young woman, especially one in the 1920s, who showed disdain for conventional dress and behavior.”

Florentine Rau That is, conventional in the 1920s. Flapper styles were different or odd for that time. Being a flapper was a trend in the 1920’s where some women rebelled against some of society’s strict expectations of females. Flappers were women who liked to be “in the now styles and fads”, and their public behavior was often considered inappropriate or too “out there”. The style came around after the first world war, and women were tired of trying to conform to society’s idea of normal women were gaining more independence. On August 18, 1920, women obtained the right to vote in America. With this new feeling of power, hemlines became shorter and waistlines became looser. The women were changing! Flappers were most commonly known for their dancing, drinking, smoking, wearing a lot of makeup, and a love of films. Almost all flappers had bobbed hair, dated frequently, and stopped wearing their corsets, which were social norms in the 1910s. It was in the Twenties when the female sex was induced with an injection of selfconfidence. She didn’t just free herself from the constriction of crinolines and corsets, but adapted a frivolous lifestyle. She was a bobbed-cut, career-minded woman, who took pride in wearing boyish clothes. The world saw the rise of a modern and new woman, who now had rights to vote and smoke a cigarette in public. Breasts and butts, which were once accentuated, were now flattened with stretch girdles. Even though hemlines didn’t brush the ground anymore, the loose silhouette gained popularity.
But it was actually Coco Chanel – yes, my fashion icon again – who really brought out the „glamour“ aspect in a woman’s wardrobe. With the release of the infamous „Chanel No 5“ perfume in 1921, Coco spelled out the true meaning of elegance and poise. She heightened the idea of dressing down by pioneering practical clothing for her sisterhood. She rebelled against what other costume designers were embarking. She started her own legacy, which still echoes in every fashionista’s wardrobe with a „little black dress“. A Chanel woman knew how to stand out from the crowd in her LBD – which was theoretically a „uniform“ for women back in the day. The flapper girl eventually got lost over the years, but designers brought her back in several collections. All of this is something of a perfect storm. Society’s fortunes are currently moving in much the same way that they did through that first part of the 20th century. Society’s tastes are moving the same way. The real life cinema and TV is rekindling our interest in the period. Fashion is currently in love with the romanticised revival. The list of similarities goes on, which makes us wonder what aspects of 20s fashion will we see incorporated in the 21st century? For 2012 it is clear to see what „obvious“ elements are trends: colour blocking, square-cut silhouettes and an inundation of fur are already popular. Incorporate into that the fact that maxi dresses have gained momentum, as have hats, and that we’re currently living through a reincarnation.

You see, it is not hard for men’s and women’s fashion to go the way of the Roaring Twenties in 2012. The trend that still spurs, almost every season, is a well-structured tailored suit. We’ve seen it reform itself in almost every shape, form, colour and fabric; but it is yet to reach its potential. Call it dress of success, an androgynous look or a close call towards the women’s homosexuality that Fitzgerald alluded to when he penned the character of Jordan Baker in Gatsby; this suited female is here to stay. With the new “The Great Gatsby” movie in real life being the talk of the town, it’s noteworthy to see how the fashion in the film prevents itself from looking too ‘costumey’. The clothes must be easy to adapt into a modern wardrobe, without being too verbatim of the bygone era. They must satisfy the appetite for luxury as well as correlate with the mass market without saturating its existence. It will be a very close call between resuscitating the fashion of the 1920s as a trend to completely dwindling its trace. We expect there’s a good chance of the former outcome; though the real question will be, how the trend takes hold and to what degree. Florentine Rau-Offcourse

* When did you start your singer career in Secondlife and why? I start 2009/10 just for fun, singing for an old SL friend. after that i meet Mats Milev (Guy Noel) on his SL gig and we decide that i have to sing at his venue “the acoustic lounge for the first time. after that i sing 2 days in a month in SL. At the beginning of 2011 i start to use also the world wide web (facebook) and it grows more and more.... * What are your favorite genres of music? britpop (oasis, the verve (richard ashcroft) ,...) indie rock (elbow) Singer/Songwriter, Folk (Daminen Rice) AND ....Ryan Adams as Indie/Rock/Pop/Alternativ Country/Folksinger-songwriter
* Do you have an Idol in SL or/and RL? RL: Bryan Adams SL: there is not an Idol but there are many musicians I admire, like... Mats Milev (Guy Noel), Twinghost Ronas, Blindboy Gumbo, Amforte, [engrama], * Does music have a big impact to your RL? Oh yes, music helps me in all moods. beeing sad, happy, make a decision or only to relax. its not that i need funny music when im sad to feel happy again. is more like a mood booster when i feel sad why not i live it for a moment with some sad songs. it helps me to get my thoughts clear and to understand whats wrong. * You are always seen with a cigarette in SL, do you smoke in RL too? cough *hust (sound of a lighter) ...no comment
Julie Hastings & Daniele Eberhardt * Please tell us your favorite song and why?
* Last but not least, share a bit about Aminius Writer with us. Who is the man with the guitar and the wonderful voice?
its “wonderwall “ but in ther acoustic cover version of ryan adams.
really like the idea of their work. After the last concert Brique and I talked about my doing a bi-monthly gig. and i can tell you, today we find dates till august.
i tell u why: i think its not only the combination of a melody, an instrument, a voice or the lyric makes a song to a favorite. often its the situation of somthing happens when we listen first time to a song or the memories we have in our minds
I talked to her a lot and I respect her work and commitment. It’s an organisation with a lot of people helping as volunteers. They go to kenia themselves every year to see to it that all is working and the donations go where they belong.
one day i worked for my studies and listen to MTV. there was a song i liked and i think mhhh interesting. not known what this artist also sings i order the CD this night “love is hell pt.1 and 2 - of Ryan Adams).
You can have a look on their website “llk-selb.de” or “feed-a-smile. blogspot.de” It is important to know that this is not only a SL organisation. They also do benefit concerts and much more in real life.
some days later it was in my post box. on the way upstairs i open the box, go to my CD player take my headphone and start listen. i liked yes ...slow and lovely piano and guitar tracks. after 4 tracks there was a song start with a guitar intro similar to “wonderwall” and all i thought was mmmh sounds like but slower and in another pitch, couldnt be. than he start singing the lyric and it was wonderwall but he sings in his own way. i fall in love with this version becaus....
About its importance I can say: Any ways of helping are important and - sure ... we cannot do everything, but if there is a chance that I can do something, I will. It’s important for the children to get our help .....
...this was one of theses moments i except nothing and than there was this wonderfull version ... goose pimples. afterwards i can say i heard this song the whole day, sitting in front of my player on the floor calm down more and more :)
* You have some songs on Youtube with a lot of views, can we expect more in future?
thats why i prefer to sing both versions in my cover ...oasis original and ryan adams version.
http://www.youtube.com/user/ aminiuswriter https://www.facebook.com/AminiusWriterMusic * Do you have further plans and http://fandalism.com/aminiuswriter do you share them with us?
blushes ... mmmh how to explain i think Aminius isnt an imaginary/invented character. He looks similar to me RL (ok ok, thx a lot to the virtual world) ... he looks a little better than me (laughing a lot) but he acts like me, i dont hide behind him... he is a transmitter for me. i
So I’d like to say thanks to all the people who help this organisation, ecspecally Brique, all the second life musicians playing at “the Lavender Field” AND thanks to all their fans for the helping with their donations.
yes there is a cover version of creep (radiohead) and also a song of mats milev (RL name Guy Noel) i cover one day. i think these ones will not be my last but depends on time http://www.youtube.com/user/ aminiuswriter
* You sing every 2 weeks for “Feed a Smile”, the charity organization of Brique ... , where all tips go directly to the Charity can we delete this question plz? or fund. Is Feed a Smile important no... i think its all like it is ... and i for you? like it. if there will be a change i will tell you all :) oh, I’ve performed for “Feed a Smile” three times in the past. I
love to sing and play my guitar so why not share this moments with other people. thank you very much for the nice interview
