The procedures currently offered in the ambulatory service include hysteroscopy and removal of endometrial polyps or fibroids from the lining of the womb, procedures for fertility , insertion & removal of coil, abnormal vaginal bleeding, post - menopausal bleeding and colposcopy. The aim of ambulatory gynaecology is to admit, treat and discharge the patient on the same day in an outpatient setting. Traditional inpatient operations are being rapidly replaced by office, outpatient or day surgery procedures.

EDITOR Hello again, This issue marks our 13th birthday. When we started, we were told that there were no decent shops or restaurants anything to do in Aberdeen and the shire. 13 years later, we’ve proved people wrong and our success is a testament to the resilience, style and sheer variety our corner of the world offers. You’ll notice that this issue is unusually festive for Trend, even though Christmas is still a few weeks off. We make no apologies for this, even we know that there must be a few of our readers who leave everything till Christmas Eve and think presents from the all night garage will win them some brownie points. We’ve all been through a lot this year. We’ve been locked down, stuck in and driven up the wall. We’ve worked from home and struggled with home schooling. We’ve Zoomed all over the place, yet been nowhere. We’ve missed our favourite restaurants and spending time with friends and family. We’ve hardly gone shopping in months. We’ve waved au revoir to our city breaks, long weekends and holidays in the

sun. And now, we’ve had enough. Frankly, we’re not letting COVID have Christmas too. Whatever shape your festive season takes, whether you mark the Winter Solstice, light candles for Hanukkah, get an early start with Diwali in November, celebrate Krishna’s birth or Kwanzaa, it feels like we should mark the end of 2020 by celebrating that it’s nearly over and hoping that 2021 will be better. So that’s what we’re doing in this issue. We’ve decided to showcase the best local businesses who can supply everything from a feast-worthy foods, cards, decorations and gifts. It’s about supporting individual makers and small businesses whether they make scented candles or spirits, artisan soaps or even sprouts, buying wisely so that everyone in our corner of the world benefits. ow that massage therapists are allowed to practice again, there are a few changes that you should expect when you return to your therapist’s practice room. Felicity Rogers of Banchory Spinal Health explained, ‘Clinics are trying to give patients as normal an experience as possible, whilst adhering to strict hygiene protocols. Clients and massage therapists will be both be wearing masks, although these are not required during any part of the treatment where the patient is face-down. Your massage therapist will adhere to good hand-washing hygiene to avoid the over-use of gloves. Most clinics will ask that

you wait in your car. At our premises, we scan the client’s temperature and ask them to wash their hands before entering our treatment rooms. Clients can expect to complete a consent form and provide details for tracing before their appointment. Our massage couch covers are washed after every patient, and the bed itself is wiped down with antibacterial wipes’. If you’re looking for relaxation, a Swedish, Hot Stone or Indian Head massage could be the perfect option. A hot stone massage uses heated smooth stones to provide a soothing massage with the

heat penetrating the muscles to offer deeper relaxation. An Indian Head massage works the area around the head, neck and shoulders. A Swedish massage is probably the best known type of massage, and the therapist will tailor the pressure to suit you. Although this is a relaxing treatment, you’ll really feel the benefit if there are particular areas of muscular tension or tight muscles indicative of stress. Some forms of massage, such as Shiatsu, can be delivered through clothing, whilst other forms can be done seated rather than lying down if that’s a problem for you. Some clinics offer pregnancy massage, teach baby massage or offer specialised treatments suitable for those who have previously had cancer. Sports Massages are ideal for people needing a deeper massage or those who have particular areas of their body to be treated due to injury. Sports Massage therapists undertake additional training to deepen their knowledge of muscle function and biomechanics, and are more specialised to be able to treat those suffering with injuries

or to help avoid them. The therapist may also recommend some stretches along with the treatment. Don’t expect an instant cure. It probably took a long time to develop the injury in the first place and recovery may take a while. It’s really important to provide feedback to your therapist if something is expectedly painful or uncomfortable, so they can adjust the pressure or explore problematic areas. Massage offers a wide range of benefits including stress relief and the easing of muscular tension. Massage can improve the process of injury recovery, encouraging increased blood flow and improving circulation. There’s considerable evidence to show it can lower blood pressure and help with migraines too. It can lead to a greater sense of wellbeing, help improve posture and improve joint mobility and flexibility. Now’s the time to explore it for yourself.

A tasty delivery for Cults care home residents Residents of an Aberdeen care facility have scored a mouthwatering treat, thanks to the generosity of a well-known North-east business. Ashvale operations director Stuart Devine MBE recently delivered more than 20 portions of fish and chips to the dementia unit at Deeside Care Home in Cults as a special treat for lifelong friend Billy Allan, his fellow residents and unit staff. Former joiner Mr Allan was involved in the creation of Aberdeen’s oldest amateur football team, Rattray’s XI, and has remained dedicated to it as a player and supporter throughout its 72-year history. Commenting on the special delivery, Stuart Devine said, ‘I’ve

known Billy all my life - my father played for Rattray’s XI and so did I, and I’m still on the committee. When it was possible, I used to try and take Billy to games as he was an avid supporter even after he stopped playing. ‘People have been through so much because of the Covid-19 pandemic, and we just wanted to do something nice for Billy and his fellow residents as well as the staff who do such a great job looking after them.’ Deeside Care Home manager Diane Martin added, ‘The residents thoroughly enjoyed their treat thanks to Stuart and the Ashvale. Technology start-up, io, enjoys successful first year Sami Brown, a fifteen year old pupil at Robert Gordon’s College has developed smartphone software which offers customer track and trace capabilities in just three clicks. Working with software developers at Dad Adrian’s digital solutions company Fennex, Sami created, fine-tuned and launched the ScanEasy system which offers a three-click, digital solution to collect customer data from visitors

in settings such as pubs, restaurants, cafes, hairdressers, nurseries, sports groups and others. Prior to the introduction of local restrictions, Sami literally got on his bike to take the application to the local market and his efforts secured three city centre clients including CUP Café, Jojo’s Coffee Shop and Orka Artisan Café. When it comes to occasion dressing and black tie events, consider the kilt. A made to measure outfit will cost upwards of ÂŁ1000, but itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s the ultimate in investment dressing

A bespoke kilt and jacket will last for decades. It’s an outfit that makes almost any body shape look good and always draws admiring glances.

It makes sense to hire an outfit first to see if you feel comfortable wearing it, but if you attend a lot of events or you’re getting married, then having your own made to measure kilt in your own tartan is worth considering.

As well as clan, district, personal and organisational tartans, there are universal tartans such as Black Watch and Flower of Scotland that can be worn by anyone, whether they can trace their ancestors back to the Jacobites or not. The Welsh and Irish have tartans too. If you’re not sure about your clan tartan, your kilt maker will be able to show you a selection of appropriate patterns. There’s also a useful search facility called the Tartan Ferret, which will help you find tartans associated with your surname or other search options as well as an A-Z browsing option. tartansauthority.com/tartan-ferret/. Many clans have several tartans including ancient and hunting varieties, so you may have a few patterns to choose

from. The search facility doesn’t have every surname in the database, so you may need to go back into your family history to find a surname associated with a clan. If you really want to push the boat out, you can even design your own personal tartan at tartansauthority.com/tartan/ tartan-today/croft-weaver-tartan-designer/ then have it specially woven and made up into a kilt.

When it comes to selecting a sporran, avoid anything that resembles a folded badger or a full-length horsehair job that makes you look like the leader of a pipe band. If small children point and laugh, you’ve made the wrong choice. If sealskin seems cruel and leather is too plain, it’s possible to get vegan sporrans or ethically made sporrans that use roadkill.

Typically, a kilt uses eight yards of fabric and takes around 30 hours to make a hand sewn, knife edge version. If you’re not a fan of tartan, then kilts also come in plain colours and even black leather. The outfit is completed with a shirt and tie, long woollen socks with tartan flashes, kilt brogues, belt, a sporran and your choice of jacket and matching waistcoat. Fly plaids, which are worn over the shoulder are still favoured by some. Underwear is, by tradition, left at home.

Finishing touches include a Sgian Dubh dagger worn tucked down a sock and a kilt pin. There are bladeless daggers available for flights and even some which have a bottle opener, which are useful if you’re travelling to an international football or rugby fixture. As well as kilt stockists, most jewellers will have a selection of kilt pins, or if you fancy something more unusual, many will be able to create a bespoke pin in the form of your choice.

The Prince Charlie is the most formal style of jacket, generally coming in black or a dark shade that complements the kilt fabric. The cut is similar to a shortened tail coat and comes with silvered buttons. The Argyll Jacket is less ostentatious with silvered buttons on the packets and cuffs while a Braemar style is similar to a single breasted suit jacket. Lastly, tweed jackets are often worn to country events such as Highland Games. You’ll also find less traditional fabrics being used, such as velvets, for weddings.

Eating healthily, and choosing foods which are rich in immune system boosting ingredients, has never been more important. As we are in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, and at the start of the annual cold and flu season, the best way to get the whole family tucking into their five a day is a warming, hearty bowl of soup.

Get into the habit of putting a pan of soup on the stove or a slow cooker each day. It’s perfect for using up any leftovers and sneaking in loads of vegetables. Blend your soups and even the fussiest eaters won’t turn their noses up. Combining protein rich lentils and pulses with nutrient-dense vegetables such as kale or spinach, can help combat sneezes and sniffles whilst heating you up on a cold, rainy day. Herbs such as coriander are great for reducing any inflammation in the

body, whilst aiding digestion. Ginger and turmeric are rich in antioxidants and delicious when paired with carrots. Mushrooms can have high levels of vitamin D while broccoli and red peppers are packed with vitamin C, which is great for fighting off cold and flu symptoms. By weight, red peppers have three times the vitamin C of oranges. A simple cream of broccoli soup is quick and easy to prepare and delicious topped with grated cheese. Red peppers go really well with tomatoes and fresh herbs. Adding in fresh or dried pasta or a little chicken or fish can also turn this into an evening meal in minutes. A simmering pan of soup will fill your home with a wonderful aroma that will have the whole family flocking to the kitchen. What could be better than home-made soup and some crusty bread?

Doric Film Festival set to return

Following the runaway success of the first two Doric Film Festivals, the second annual event is now inviting entries until November 1st and is asking applications to create a film around the theme: ‘Jist Faar I Bide.’ There are nine awards across three categories, namely individuals, schools and community groups. Each will receive £500 towards the cost of producing a five-minute film which will be screened during an online event in spring 2021. The idea is that you cut wildflower turf (available from a number of online companies in Scotland) to fit compost filled pots. The turf is easy to establish, and the wildflowers will attract bees, butterflies and all types of insects... and look beautiful too! If you have a larger space with a sizeable lawn, perhaps you could devote some of it to wildflower turf and mow paths through it or if you have a shed, you can give it a living roof using Sedum matting or wildflower turf. Even if you have no gardening experience, there’s so much that can be achieved in even the smallest of spaces to help us enhance the quality of our lives, benefitting our environment and our mental and physical wellbeing in the process.

From Christmas trees to Christmas garlands, and everything in between, we are starting to see an emerging trend for over the top opulence this festive season like never before.

For most of us 2020 has been a year that we would rather forget with its daily rollercoaster of ups and downs. But now, with less than 100 days to the Christmas countdown, we are starting to look at how we can make the most of what remains of this year and create a magical experience like no other. Whilst things may still be a bit uncertain in the outside world, our homes offer a cosy haven which we can completely transform; creating fun and lasting memories with our families and friends.

With the cancellation of Christmas markets and events, I think weâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ll see more people entertaining at home this year throughout the December period. We are already experiencing an increase in residential decor installs as clients look to embrace the festive spirit and keep the Christmas magic alive. In some ways Christmas 2020 will be more simplistic than in years past but in terms of decor the main theme that has emerged this year is opulence, and the more of it the better! And whatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s more opulent than jewels and precious stones. Here are three trends that will make your home look amazing.

Emerald & Gold This is an emerging trend for 2020, known as Decadent Christmas Deco which uses striking colours like emerald or fir green to create an elegant and upmarket background with a traditional twist. Coupled with golden accessories and motifs such as jewelled deer ornaments and real pine cones, you can marry these two colours stylishly to create a Christmas flair which is reminiscent of the 1920s.

Amethyst &Turquoise Influenced by the striking architecture and jewels of the Art Nouveau period, the style is glamorous and opulent with rich materials and extravagant accessories, including bold characters such as peacocks. Mix luxe materials such as velvet, silk and metallics to create depth and colour as a background for peacock feathers and glass ornaments. his year, many of the usual family activities that mark the run up to Christmas are on hold. There will be no chance to enjoy some piping hot roast chestnuts or succulent bratwurst in a bun as you wander the stalls in the Christmas Village. Many pantomimes and concert performances have been cancelled and there are only so many times you can watch Shrek the Halls and Miracle on 34th Street without starting to feel like the Grinch. Instead, why not make Christmas magical by getting together as a family and making cards, decorations, gifts and festive treats? There are plenty of kits, ideas and recipes out there that will work for kids of any age group. If they look a bit scruffy and you get glitter everywhere, well, thatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s just part of the fun. It could be the start of a whole new festive traditionâ&#x20AC;Ś

Stock up on craft materials for card or decoration making on a visit to Hobbycraft, The Range or The Works, or try a discount online supplier like kidsstuffforless.uk. Look for ceramic or wooden baubles that can be painted, or glass or plastic versions that can be filled with miniature scenes. You could also choose some 3D letters to spell out a festive message for the kids to paint and decorate. You can also buy a couple of card making magazines, which come loaded with all the bits you need. If youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re feeling more adventurous, Searchpress.com has some great craft books including super-cute Amigurumi crochet animals and Christmas figures as well as toy making.

Younger kids Salt dough is really simple to make and can be used to create everything from tree decorations to door wreaths. You can even make gift tags. Just mix up 250g plain flour, 125g table salt and about 125ml of water until it comes together into a ball. Line baking sheets with silicone paper, pre-heat your oven to its lowest setting. Roll out the dough then cut out or mould your shapes. Try snowmen, Santa hats, holly leaves and tree baubles or download a template for a gingerbread house or reindeer sleigh if youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re feeling particularly ambitious. Remember to make a hole if you want to string the final creations. Transfer them to the baking sheet, bake for around 3 hours till solid. Cool then decorate with acrylic paints, felt tips, or glitter glue.

You can also cut out Christmas Tree shapes in thick card or get pre-made wooden ones then get little ones wrap them with green ribbon or wool. Add a few pompoms to decorate. You can use other shapes like snowmen, reindeer, or stockings and decorate in the same way. Cracker kits are also pretty easy for school age children to make. Most supermarkets will have them. Little ones can help fill them and decorate. Set a price limit for the gifts and let your kids choose them. Pound shops are great for this, but do make sure the gifts will fit in the crackers.

Older kids Older kids may enjoy creating bath bombs for relatives. Use any kind of flexible mould for the best results. If you want to make lager batches, it’s worth seeking out bulk supplies online to keep costs down. This recipe will make four half ball bath bombs. They take up to four hours to set. 100g bicarbonate of soda, 50g citric acid, 25g cornflour, 25g Epsom salts (optional), 2 tbsp. sunflower, coconut or olive oil, about 10-15 drops of essential oil – frankincense and myrrh are festive, as are pine and cinnamon, a few drops of food colouring and perhaps some dried petals, lavender or orange peel. Mix the dry ingredients in a large bowl. Mix the oil, essential oil and food colouring in a small bowl, mix and then slowly add this to the

dry mix a little at a time. Add a few drops of water, and mix it quickly. (It’ll fizz when you do this.) It should clump together when pressed in your hand. Add peel or flower petals to the bottom of the mould then pack the mixture tightly on top. Leave it to dry for 4 hours, then gift wrap in foil. You can then use them as gifts in home-made crackers or pop them into jars decorated with ribbon. You can also use a mixture of essential oils, pink Himalayan sea salt and Epsom salts to make home-made bath salts. There are lots of oil blends online. Just package in an attractive jar and tie with some ribbon for a simple, but thoughtful, gift. There are plenty of kits for making your own Christmas stockings, from simple felt versions to elaborate cross stitch or tapestry kits. It’s a good way to present food gifts for relatives too. You could also gather some greenery or get some cheap tree baubles and a glue gun and work together to create a wreath for the door. Florist supply shops, Homesense, Hobbycraft and The Range are good starting points. Food gifts are another way that kids can get more involved in the run up to Christmas. There are lots of recipes for Christmas cookies, peppermint creams, decorated chocolate slabs, peppermint bark and other seasonal treats. All you need is some attractive containers which can be decorated with tags and ribbon and you’re good to go.

North-east culture to be celebrated in Stories of Aberdeenshire

A marketing campaign shining a spotlight on Aberdeenshire’s folklore, ballads, supernatural tales and crafts has been launched by Visit Scotland. The Stories of Aberdeenshire project celebrates the region’s rich cultural heritage and highlights how local language, story and song have shaped and continue to shape the North-east.

A series of six short films, two e-books, and an interactive map, which includes audio recordings about folklore in the North-east, have been produced in order to bring the authentic stories of North-East lives and legends to life for both locals and visitors. rgentina is steeped in history, with stunning landscapes, huge skies and friendly people. The best time to visit is between October and March, the summer season in the Southern hemisphere. At over 35 times the size of Scotland, it offers everything from cosmopolitan cities to cattle ranches, beaches to the Andes, a history that encompasses ancient civilisations, Spanish colonisation, dubious dictators and even a musical. Like any area that you’re unfamiliar with, it’s best to stick to the tourist areas after dark and avoid flashing expensive jewellery or phones. That said, the Argentinians are very welcoming, open and demonstrative. There's lots of kissing and

hugging and the Argentinians have no qualms about smooching in public at levels rarely witnessed in Aberdeen except for office parties in December. If you’re fortunate enough to be invited to a party in someone’s home, it’s considered rude to show up on time. Arriving an hour or two late is considered normal. This is a culture where most people eat dinner after 10pm. Talking of food, Argentina is heaven for carnivores with a love of red wine. You’ll find amazing steaks cooked to perfection on the barbecue in most restaurants, as well as dishes such as provoleta grilled cheese and choripάn, the popular sausage sandwich street food. Argentina has yet to fully embrace veganism, but there are now over sixty vegetarian or vegan

restaurants in Buenos Aires. Don’t pass up the chance to discover more about the country’s outstanding wines from the provinces of Mendoza, San Juan and La Rioja. If wine’s not your thing, try maté, the traditional caffeine-rich tea brewed from the dried leaves of yerba mate. Be wary of home-made versions which occasionally have some interesting 'herbs' thrown in! Argentina is so big that, whatever your interests, the country has something to offer, from tango lessons in Buenos Aires to narrow gauge railways winding their precipitous way through the Andes, from local markets filled with bustling Amerindian women with their distinctive multi-coloured costumes and stalls selling

leather goods, pottery and empanadas. Football fans should grab tickets to watch Boca Juniors, in Buenos Aires. They’re known for their on-pitch skills and off-pitch fierce rivalry with River Plate. If you need to get away from the constant buzz of the capital, head to Recoleta Cemetery, an oasis of calm paths lined with magnificent tombs, including that of Eva Peron. Mendoza, in Argentina’s Cuyo region, is the heart of Argentina's wine country and is particularly famed for Malbecs. The city has wide, leafy streets lined with modern and art deco buildings, and feels more relaxed than the capital. Many of the bodega wineries offer tastings and tours. Alternatively, hire a car and drive up to the Christ the Redeemer statue on the border with Chile. It’s

a spectacular trip, but not for the nervous driver as you climb to 12,214 feet on a dirt track road. Further north, Salta is a great base for exploring Las Salinas Grandes, the famous salt flats in Bolivia. You can discover how salt is mined and get some incredible perspective photos of the gleaming, high-altitude flats. The drive through the foothills of the Andes takes you through villages like Tumbaya and Volcan, where you can get a glimpse of true rural life. Meet Robert Lawrence of Ingrained Culture Although I come from a long line of cabinet makers and wood workers, the advent of flat pack furniture and chipboard meant cabinet making didn’t look like a viable career option.

nstead, my wife and I worked in managing, restoring, constructing and maintaining buildings. Eventually, we built our own eco house in Johnshaven. As a boy, I was given razor sharp chisels and carving projects by my father. As he let me make what I wanted, I had a lot of model boats. He also taught me to draw everything by eye, an essential skill if you are to properly understand something. At 54, I’m now a full time maker. I’m not comfortable with the word artist. I think it has to be earned from your peers, probably posthumously. I prefer to be known as a woodcarver and artificer - an individual creative manufacturer.

I enjoy the design process as much as the making itself, especially when my clients are involved throughout the project. My job is to make what the client actually wants, rather than offer a choice of finished works, in the hope that someone likes them. Whether it’s a garden sculpture or a simple house sign, I start with some questions and at least three concept drawings and regular updates with photos as the job progresses. If I’m doing a sculpture of a figure, sometimes it’s difficult to see the potential and recognise the progress until a face is finished. I can stare at the wood for hours imagining the face within, but I only get one chance to get it right. As well as sculptures and commissions for community groups, I make a wide

range of signs, anything from simple house numbers and names to climate change awareness panels, conservation and litter signs. My sculpture is suitable for private collectors for their gardens or architectural ornamentation. I’m happy to make just about anything from wood, particularly where a little style and deeper thought is required. My business is fully certified by 'Grown in Britain' and licensed by 'Scottish Working Woods'. My work methods ensure one of the lowest possible carbon footprints without sacrificing practicality. In March, I created a free community art installation in Johnshaven. Covid Clouds consists of 12 white painted

wooden clouds, each with a phrase or question relating to a kinder, cleaner, more compassionate future. It has been extremely well received and since gone on tour around Scotland. It’s still available to any community council or other organisation, free of charge, via www.ingrainedculture. co.uk/covid-clouds-pop-up I’ve spent years developing techniques to make the use of wood a viable, up to date, useable alternative to high carbon, high polluting materials. The use of bronze was perfect for Victorian heavy industry and Gothic splendour, steel and concrete were perfect for modernist sculpture in times of brutal architecture and science fiction, but today? Really?

Wood is low carbon, has an air of real life and warmth, sustainability and longevity. You can see my work on my website and I have a few examples which can be viewed by appointment, though my workshop is not open to the public. If I’m taking part in an exhibition, the details are always on my home page. I like being an artificer, so I'm not trying to become famous or earn a fortune. Did you know that the city’s merchants and magistrates once abducted children and sold them as slaves in America? Rebecca Armstrong-Fleming sheds a light on some dark deeds…

n 1743, Aberdeen was not always a safe place for children, as a boy called Peter Williamson found out. Peter had travelled from Aboyne to live with his aunt in the city, but instead, he was kidnapped and taken on board a ship called Planter. He was just ten. Peter was one of sixty nine children on board. Those who survived the harsh and unsanitary conditions during the voyage were destined to be sold into slavery in the New World. The Planter was not the only ship to carry such a pitiful human cargo from Aberdeen’s harbour. Records held in the city’s archives show that around 700 children, kept in holding houses, were sold at £16 a head, profiting the city’s merchants and magistrates by the equivalent of £1.33 million in today’s currency.

Peter was luckier than many of the other children who survived the eleven week voyage. The ship was wrecked off the coast of Delaware and the children sold in Philadelphia. Peter was bought by Hugo Wilson, from Perth, who had himself once been taken in slavery as a child. Seven years later, when Hugo Wilson died, Peter was a free man. Wilson left his horse, his clothes and £120 to his former slave. Peter married and became a farmer, but was again taken prisoner in the French and Indian War. He lived as a captive among the Delaware Indians for several months before escaping and joining the colonial militia. In 1756, Peter was sent to England as part of an exchange of military prisoners who had been taken by the French. Nursing a wounded hand, exhausted and almost penniless, Peter found himself in York. Soon his tales of his time living amongst the Native Americans began to draw a crowd and his memoirs were published, selling a thousand copies. By now, he was dressing in an approximation of traditional Native American clothing and demonstrating “Red Indian” culture. He returned to Aberdeen, in 1758, to be met with libel lawsuits from local magistrates disputing their involvement in his abduction and enslavement. He was found guilty – unsurprisingly, as the same magistrates he had accused, judged the case. He was thrown into prison until he signed a confession and his books were burnt.

Understandably, Peter moved to Edinburgh where he opened up a coffee house, which quickly became popular with the city’s lawyers. They encouraged Peter to take his case to the Court of Session. A ledger showing the profits made from selling the children included an entry with Peter’s name, leading to the previous judgement being overturned. Peter was awarded £200 in damages, plus his legal costs of 100 guineas. Peter’s next venture was to open a tavern in Parliament Close, then a printing workshop. He even invented a waterproof ink for use on linen and a portable printing press. Ever-resourceful, he followed this with Edinburgh’s first penny post and an independent postal service which was later bought over by the General Post Office. In his later years, he became known throughout the city as Indian Peter, wearing the garb of the Delaware Indians and even choosing to be buried in his favourite moccasins, fringed leggings, blanket and feathered head-dress.

Right Here Productions are known for their live murder mysteries, sing-agrams, marryoke and online games. Now they are hoping to add to their portfolio by crowdfunding the development of at home versions of their games that can be played by four or six people during a dinner party. GERRY JABLONSKI Gerry Jablonski and the Electric Band have been headliners in Aberdeen’s music scene for many years. We caught up with frontman Gerry to find out more about the man behind the microphone…

was born in Banffshire and grew up in the small fishing village of Whitehills. My dad was Polish and my mum was Scottish, when they separated, I found solace in music. I used to pinch my half-brother's guitar and his record collection. I’d play both for hours! The neighbours were not impressed but they come to the shows now. Being a musician was never seen as a proper job. It was very much a traditional family where you need to get a profession and then find a job. Now we tour all over the UK and Europe.

Every gig is memorable. We played a festival in Poland to 5,000 fans all singing along to Anybody, which was incredible and we’ve headlined at the O2 Academy in Sheffield to a couple of thousand people. The venue and location don’t really matter. It’s all about the chemistry between us and our fans. Every year we put on a Christmas show at Café Drummonds and play to a full house. The atmosphere is always incredible. It’s a great feeling to play the final show each year on our home turf. We have it planned for 11th December this year, but who knows how the situation develops.

The band are great. Grigor Leslie plays bass. He’s my favourite bass player ever and I've worked with a few. Grigor’s the soul of the band and he gets us through the hard times on the road.

So many performers and songwriters have influenced us. Richard Thompson, John Martin, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Eric Johnson and Nils Lofgren would all have to be up there.

Our harmonica player is Peter Narojczyk. He’s the Mick Jagger to my Keith Richards. It’s nice to have a second frontman! He’s a fixer too, which is a nightmare as he drags us all over the globe to entertain people - the work never stops!

At the moment, performing is on hold, so I’ve been walking a lot with my dog, Molly and writing for the next album. We’ve been holding live Q&A sessions with our fans, rehearsing and setting

Our newest member is Lewis Fraser on drums and vocals. He’s an amazing drummer and a sweet singer. Unfortunately, he’s young, handsome and talented. We’ve had to learn to live with it!

ourselves little projects. We had planned to record a live roof top show for NHS volunteers, but it had to be postponed. Since the film crew were already booked, we went down to the river Don and shot our new music video which we hope to release soon. Our new single is called Goddam. It was just a bit fun to write a cliché rock song. We've also recorded Little Wing by Jimi Hendrix. It’s a song I love and although we don’t normally do covers, we're really interested to see what our fans will think. As far as the new album goes, it’s work in progress. We have several songs the band are trying out to pick the strongest material. Songs just come to me and I work on the lyrics, riff and melody, then I take it to the band and they add their ideas to it. I don't record anything until I can still remember the song next day....then I know it is ready!
