It’s your big day, and whether you’re the mother of the bride or groom, a bridesmaid, or one of the happy couple, you want to look your best. Hairdressers; fine. Make up; not a problem, plenty of approachable professionals. But what happens when you want a little bit more? For many, the thought of setting foot in an aesthetics clinic is confusing and bewildering. Do you have to have injections to get rid of that line? No, not necessarily, there are now several non-invasive alternatives. And those thread veins suddenly seem to have become far more noticeable. Or you’ve just discovered you’re 20 years older than the mother of the bride. Whatever the reason, many more women are wanting a little more assistance than some foundation and blusher, so here’s our top tips on approaching the situation. 1 | Go to a registered professional; this is a nurse, a doctor or a dentist. Check them out - are they
accredited, for example with Save Face, and have they won any awards for customer service? 2 | Plan ahead. Many of the newer, non-invasive treatments such as Ultherapy and Exilis take three to four months to have their full effect, so make time to go as early as possible and develop a plan with your practitioner. 3 | Don’t be afraid to ask questions. The vast majority of professional clinics offer free consultations, and you should not feel pressured into having a treatment.

MAKE UP ARTIST RAE MATHIESON TALKS BRIDAL BEAUTY TRENDS...
SUPER STROBING 2015 has seen a new twist brought to the ‘no makeup’ make up look. ‘Strobing’ takes over from contouring and puts emphasis on glowing, radiant skin. The skin is highlighted and brought to life by applying shimmering and highlighting products to the areas of the face where light would naturally hit and light up the skin. The result? Super healthy, super glowing, radiant skin - something every bride is after. One of my favourite products to achieve this effect is MAC Strobe Cream (left).
THE ONE FEATURE FOCUS This trend focuses on making the most of one feature for a bold, statement look. The eyes have it when it comes to bridal make up, so if you have pretty peepers - show them off! Full smokes and luscious, false lashes give a red carpet, elegant feel - just remember to keep the rest of your look soft, blended with delicate contouring and highlighting and barely there blush. If you’ve been blessed with a perfect pout opt for a striking lip colour - true reds bring an old Hollywood glamour feel, while berry stains and matte pops of colour give a modern feel. SOPHISTICATED SMOKES By far my most requested look is a Smokey eye. The possibilities with this look are endless - from subtle to full on. For bridal, put away the blacks and choose to complement your eye colour and really make the eye ‘pop’ by using purples, ochres, bronze and gold.
FAUX AND FABULOUS Lashes are a must to achieve that red carpet, fluttery finish for your big day. Once a bride tries some false lashes on to complete her look she is a transformed woman and there is no going back! Choose a style that compliments your eye shape and size - fluttery and extending out at the corners is most flattering and really opens up the eye. Apply a few strokes of mascara to ‘blend’ the false lash into the natural lash, concentrating on the root of the lash - waterproof of course! MAC 3 Lash (left). 11

Despite body art being fairly ubiquitous, the modern day tattooed bride often faces fierce debate on whether or not to display her ink on her wedding day. For many brides, showcasing their body art isn’t even a question. Their tattoos form part of their identity and personality, why would they hide them? However, with older generations of parents often finding it difficult to reconcile their vision of the traditional bride with new age expressions of art, some brides are finding themselves covering up to keep their families happy. 12
The decision to hide your ink may be a personal choice. Your tattoos may have formed part of your creative vision when you got them (and still do), but they are not part of your
DRESS? CHECK. SHOES? CHECK. VEIL? CHECK. TATTOOS? wedding day look. Or it could be that you no longer like your tattoos and you don’t want a reminder of your youthful streak of rebellion on one of the most important days of your life. Whether you choose to cover up out of personal preference or of gentle coercion, there are several options out there for the discerning bride, from professional makeup cover ups and laser removals, to airbrushed photography magic.
If you’ve got tattoos on your shoulders, a sleeved gown or a bolero will do the trick. Ink on the nape of your neck? Wear your hair in a half up, half down do. At the end of the day, whether you dare to bare or cover your colours, keep in mind that the stars of your wedding day aren’t your tattoos, but you and your partner - something to remember for all those brides facing tattoo taboo.
The easiest and most convenient way to cover up is clever styling. If you’ve got art on your legs, replace a tea length dress with a long one.

Committing to getting your hair in optimum health isn’t a short term goal. Braids remain an evergreen wedding day choice, echoing the continuing fascination with all things vintage, rustic and homespun. Ask your hairdresser how to mix multiple or single braids into a stunning informal or formal style. Waves are still popular with the A-listers, and the key here is durability. You’ve found the right man, now find the right dress!
Shopping for your wedding dress is one of the most exciting parts of planning your big day. Some brides will have spent years imagining themselves walking down the aisle and know exactly what they want, whilst others won’t even know where to begin. If you’re one of the latter brides, read on for tips on finding the right dress for you. THE APPOINTMENT Dress appointments are notoriously short. To make the most of your time, do some research in advance on styles of dresses you’d like to try. Remember that some dresses need accessorised to see their full effect, so kick on some heels, pop on a little bling, and style your hair to see the complete look. THE STYLE To get an idea of what styles you suit, look at your own day-to-day wardrobe and incorporate this into your wedding dress. If you usually shy away from showy strapless numbers, how will you feel in a flashy A-line gown? Keep in mind where your wedding will take place. A heavily beaded gown swathed in layers of underskirt may be too hot and heavy for a wedding abroad, whilst a boobylicious sweetheart dress might not be suitable for a formal church ceremony.
24
Decide before you choose your frock if you’re going to lose weight for your wedding, or you may lose the curves that your dress clings so perfectly to.
WORDS BY EMMA LEIPER FINLAYSON
BE BODY BEAUTIFUL Like wedding dresses, brides come in all shapes and sizes, and it’s important to keep your own shape in mind when dress shopping. Some dresses need a little butt to pull it off, whilst others need a little cleavage (or none at all!). Embrace your body shape to get the right fit for you.
bad for your seamstress, but it’s bad for your gown. Changing your shape can completely change how a dress sits and looks. Decide before you choose your frock if you’re going to lose weight for your wedding, or you may lose the curves that your dress clings so perfectly to.

People from all over the world come to House of Turin to hold their special occasions and it’s easy to see why. Steeped in history dating back to the 14th century and set across a sprawling twenty acres in the Angus countryside, the mansion is at once grandiose and undeniably romantic. The House offers true luxury for its guests, boasting ten elegantly decorated rooms with four poster suites, and exquisite and exotic furnishings that are both contemporary and true to the House’s historical roots. The venue is perfect for an exclusive wedding party for your family and friends, offering the opportunity for an intimate ceremony and reception in the mansion, or the chance to dance under the stars in a marquee in the House’s extensive grounds. For Yvonne, the most important thing is to deliver a wedding that’s special to the bride and groom, and for that reason there are no set wedding packages. ‘We aim to be very personal and not have our couples feel pressured in any way. We are always happy to try new things and to source local trusted suppliers to bring the finishing touches to the big day.’ ‘The House of Turin is not just a wedding venue it is so much more – we want to be able to make dreams come true. THE ETIQUETTE OF GETTING
HOW TO SAY ‘I DON’T...’ WHEN YOU’RE SAYING ‘I DO...’
o sooner has the engagement ring gone on your finger than family and friends begin pitching both their congratulations and their ideas on what you ‘should’ do, and what you ‘have’ to have. As well meaning as their intentions and anecdotes are, planning a wedding is stressful enough without the added pressure to conform to etiquette. As a modern day bride you may find that your family are aghast that you don’t want a receiving line to formally thank your guests for attending, or upset that you don’t want to invite old

sans bridesmaids, or that you don’t want a top table at your wedding breakfast.
could you reach a compromise and ask your parents to contribute?
If you’re facing your own etiquette encounters, the key is to pick your battles and know when to fight and when to capitulate. If what your family wants won’t affect how you feel on your wedding day, consider agreeing to it as a gesture of goodwill (especially if it’s your in-laws!).
There will be times when you have to stand your ground. Explain the motivation behind any contentious decisions and that it’s not a case of your being a bridezilla. Make sure that your partner-to-be is on your side too and that you’re a united front.
It may be a case that your family don’t feel as if they’re getting a say in your big day. If so, try and involve them in other ways. Ask for their opinions on other matters, or assign them a task that will keep them happy and have minimum affect on your day. If cost is the reason for your decisions,
Remember that it’s your wedding day and no one else’s. Set your own style and tradition!

With its cosy gondola rides and midnight strolls along moonlit canals, the city of Venice offers newlyweds the quintessential honeymoon experience. Venice is a town firmly established as the place for all things related to that little thing called Love. With its winding walkways, gothic architecture, and quaint little bridges nestled over gently lapping canals, the city offers an intimate ambience and stunning backdrop to any amorous liaison.
For the epitome of all Venetian activities, take to the waters for a gondola ride. If you’re feeling particularly active, you can take a lesson to learn how to row your very own gondola, or arrange for a cruise through the lagoon in a kayak. If all that sounds like too much work, venture to the Lido beach. Situated just a hop, skip, and a water-bus journey away, you’ll be treated to

By the time girls reach marrying age most are able to describe, in painstaking detail, exactly what their wedding will look like. Some paint a picture of champagne receptions and crystal flutes, while others describe free-flowing beer fountains and chilled pint glasses. But there is one aspect of the special day for which many brides have a shared vision - the venue. Thanks to childhoods filled with Disney movies and royal weddings, many dream of an old country manor snuggled amidst acres of private woodland and unspoilt countryside. A place with a chandeliered ballroom, delectable fare and a sweeping staircase that almost seems purpose built for a bride making her grand entrance. A place like Raemoir House Hotel.

NCE UPON A TIME... Wedding photography has come a long way since our parents’ big day. Whilst traditional family portraits are still part and parcel of many wedding albums, there has been a rise of photography designed around a bride and groom’s own story. Reportage photography, where the bride and groom’s day is captured as it unfolds, has become a popular choice for many couples in recent years. Blending into the background and taking informal candid shots, a reportage photographer will chronicle your day and capture those unexpected moments that posed photos don’t.

CREATING MELODY MAGIC ON YOUR SPECIAL DAY
hoosing the music and entertainment for your wedding day is up there with selecting the venue and the dress - it’s one of the most important elements of your day, and there’s much to consider! HERE COMES THE BRIDE Mendelssohn’s Wedding March and Wagner’s Bridal Chorus continue to be firm favourites for that all important walk down the aisle. EVENING ENTERTAINMENT Get your jig on with a ceilidh, jazz it up with a swing band, belt out the classics with karaoke, or enjoy a good old fashioned boogie with a DJ or simple iPod playlist. Have a crowd with diverse tastes? Mix between different genres throughout the night to keep your guests literally on their toes!

CUTTING THE CAKE Picture the scene: The newlyweds are making their way into the dining room to undertake the ritual cake cutting and the DJ begins blaring out Cliff Richard’s ‘Congratulations’. Overshadowed by the first dance, couples often forget to tell their DJ or band what they want as their entry song. Don’t let this be you - choose your song or have it chosen for you!
