After speaking with many of these actors and hearing their experience and expectations of this drama, Sunday clearly hit-the-mark! Over 1.3 million viewers watched, making this the highest rated and most watched in Bounce TV’s history. The drama is centered on “a southern town outside Atlanta which evolved into a city over the years. The church began as a 10-member congregation when the Civil Rights Movement was at its height, and being young, black, and alone at night was a hazard of circumstance. As times changed, the congregation grew and so did its influence in Cypress. When a violent murder rocks the community, the church that holds the secrets of the entire town is at risk of imploding. For it seems at Greater Hope Baptist Church, the heartbeat of Cypress, only

very now and then, a network comes along and takes a chance to do something extraordinary. The network that is making headway in this direction is Atlanta’s Bounce TV. African American owned and founded by Martin Luther King III and Ambassador Andrew Young, its programming for 2016 has blasted open the doors of opportunity for many actors of all cultures, especially African Americans. Bounce TV offers free programming to underserved communities with sports, theatrical motion pictures, faith -based programs, drama series, and more! The latest drama series to rock the airways is Saints and Sinners which first aired on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at 9/8c. It was one of the most anticipated drama series this year, with a cast of “Who’s Who” talent featuring seasoned actors like, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Clifton Powell, Gloria Reuben, Afemo Omilami, and Richard Lawson. Along with this phenomenal talent is a list of young ac-

God and the Devil can tell the difference between a saint and a sinner, when the pursuit of power, intertwined with deceit, greed, corruption and murder is the backdrop of it all.” Bounce TV’s new drama, Saints and Sinners, hit the television trail blazing! Episode One gave us a flashback of the death of Greater Hope Baptist Church’s Pastor Evan Johnson’s son, Evan Jr. (EJ), who went to the house party of Jabari, portrayed by JD Williams in 1998. Jabari had an encounter with a young man who struck back in vengeance with an attempt on his life. When EJ saw the gun pointed at his friend, he pushed Jabari out of the line of fire, taking the bullets for him. We see a surprised young Levi and confused Christie running out of the house grabbing her brother EJ, and holding him close as her body trembled with the sobs consuming her over the loss. The scene flash forwards to present day with an older Jabari walking out of the same house to get the paper and then cuts to Levi and Christie on the steps of the church. In this episode, the level of emotions take you on a roller coaster ride of highs, lows, sharp twists, and then drops. It leaves you on the edge of your seat, clenching your fingers so tight that your knuckles turn white as you want to lash out at some of the characters in the film. Old nemesis to Pastor Johnson, Rex Fisher, is played by the amazingly gifted and acclaimed actor,

Clifton Powell, who is no stranger to “bad boy” portrayals. He is the town’s local loan shark and the leader of illegal activity. He evolves into every character he has taken on and does this one superb justice as he presses Pastor Evan Johnson, played by the esteemed Richard Lawson, for the money he owes him in Rex’s barber shop which camouflages his true persona. Although Pastor Johnson is a longtime friend to Rex, his grace runs out. Jabari, who is an apprentice-like figure working with Rex, is assumed to have partaken in some grievous deeds. We see firsthand the conflict between the prodigal son, Levi, portrayed by the handsome and outstanding Christian Keyes, and equally pleasing to the eye, Miles, played by singer Keith Robinson. They fight it out in a play of testosterone and wit for the attention of Christine (Jasmine Burke). Let’s not forget the beautiful First Lady Ella played by the brilliant and very talented thespian of the craft, Vanessa Bell Calloway. Her name needs no introduction. In this drama, she stands out as the strong-willed helpmeet to Pastor Evan who has kept the family pushing forward to heights that have no limits--her career included. She sets her sights on the Mayor’s office that will soon become vacant from her “secret-lesbian” lover, Mayor Pamela Clayborne, brought to life by the gorgeous Gloria Reuben. In a twist of events, you see a family clash; friends become foes; and, the unexpected… manifested like an atomic bomb - Pastor Evan Johnson’s unexpected demise as he is executed in his car after a friendly game of late night basketball. This sets in motion the famous question of “Who dunnit?” in the town. Based on the first episode…anyone can be the suspect. As this town is rocked by the shocking death, they console one another and feelings flare as a web of deceit and lies entangle both the Saints and the Sinners. Who will be the next victim? Her husband walks up to her and before he can speak, she turns and slaps him). I should KILL you! Do you think I’m stupid? Do you think I wouldn’t notice the missing money from my campaign account, Evan?! (He tries to plead his case) Don’t you try to turn this around on me! You think I didn’t know about your dirty ways all these years! Your gambling and your gutter deals you do behind closed doors?! (Pastor Evan is sitting at his desk and she leans down close to his face). I grew up in this church watching my father do the same exact thing, so I know all about it! And I’m not just gonna sit back and let you ruin this opportunity for me!…(She slowly walks towards the door and then turns to speak to him again). You know, after everything, I thought we were still a team. But now I see it’s every man for himself. (Lady Ella looks sternly at her husband and slowly speaks) So, game ON!

Season one, episode one of Bounce TV’s Saints and Sinners broke record numbers as the show’s cast caught the attention of viewers all over the world, intrigued by this new original drama. The main characters set the stage for the fans who try and decipher “What’s gonna happen next?” The stunning and tenacious veteran actress, Vanessa Bell Calloway did not disappoint her longstanding fans with her character, Lady Ella Johnson - the vivacious force behind Pastor Evan Johnson’s success. Her stellar moment in his office transforming from an “angel of light” to “cutthroat executor,” was as smooth as a hot knife slicing butter…she did it with ease. This just shows the caliber of this fascinating actress who is no stranger to television dramas. Known for her roles in Cheaper by the Dozen (2003), Daylight (1996), and her epic role as the betrothed wife-to-be of actor/ comedian Eddie Murphy in Coming to America (1988), her career spans decades, and

T2T was able to get an exclusive interview with Vanessa Bell Calloway to discuss the moments that helped her to define Lady Ella’s fierce chameleon persona and she had a lot to say about “why” to watch Saints and Sinners this season. T2T: Thank you Mrs. Calloway for sharing time from your busy schedule. I will just dive in and ask, how did you prepare for this role? Vanessa Bell Calloway: Basically, I just connect with people I know like that. There was no preparation. I didn’t have to do anything much because we know the Black churches and the ambience and stature of the First Lady. We know the people who have a lot of mess going on. So you just combine those ingredients. You know…add water and stir. (She laughs) T2T: Can you relate to your character in any way? Vanessa Bell Calloway: The only thing that I can relate to Lady Ella is that she is a wife and a mother. (She chuckles) What she is doing on Saints and Sinners, that AIN’T Vanessa. But that’s what made it so much fun! Of course that’s not who I am; that’s who she is, and, yet breathing the life into her character was exciting, especially the mischievous things she does. T2T: How is this role different from past roles? Vanessa Bell Calloway: It was fun to step away from past characters to do this role. It was every reason to do it and no reason not to. I got to work with people I knew like Christian, Keith, and Cliff who I’ve worked with before, and some new people that I have come to love, like Jasmine and then Gloria, although I knew her, but hadn’t had the chance to work with her until now. It was great to do this character. Lady Ella has flaws, and many different levels that you can peel back, and there is an art you can create. The writers have an art they contribute, but you have to add your own flava into it. The fun is that you can be this delicious person who appears sweet but has a lot of stuff going on. In the end, you know she wants to get her play. Everybody has their own intentions; it’s never cut and dry because you have an A, B and C storyline. They got what they’re trying to get, so Lady Ella’s trying to get what she needs to get, regardless of what the other people are trying to get at the same time. So it was a lot of fun. T2T: You are no stranger to entertainment with stage plays, films, movies and TV dramas to your credit. So how was this drama different? Vanessa Bell Calloway: What makes it different is-- it’s a different show, cast, and plot. But as far as the dramatic aspect, drama will always be drama. You have to figure out what to do, who they are, who they are going to grow into, who they were, where they are now and who they used to be - then understand how they communicate with the people around them. I love stage, and I presently do a 90-minute one woman show called Letters from Zora. I travel around portraying this historic figure, author Zora

Neale Hurston, and her controversial views on segregation, integration and social justice. This production is a monologue which means once I start talking, I don’t stop. But with Lady Ella, in this film, I get to do a lot of things in the world of the church. I get to shoot in various locations in Atlanta, so the format is different. But, the drama portion is the same except you gotta get in it and do what makes it work for that character, to make it happen. You have to make it believable and you should always enjoy what you do. T2T: Tell our readers why they should watch Saints and Sinners. Vanessa Bell Calloway: It’s entertainment! There are many reasons to watch. If you are fans of any of the cast, watch it. If you are a fan of the church, naturally, and if you like things that are flawed and have a lot of different depths and levels, that’s a reason to watch. If you like great music, we have Kelly Price, Keith Robinson, Deitrick Haddon and many others. The most important reason is—if you support African American performances and shows, you should watch it. I believe once people start watching, they’ll be consumed with it and get involved with the characters, and anxious for what will happen next. It’s going to be great! T2T: I have enjoyed hearing the formula behind your amazing talents. One last question. What projects do you have on the horizon? Vanessa Bell Calloway: (In an excited voice) I have a busy schedule and it has been a lot of fun! I am going to be starring in a biopic of Miki Howard on TV One as her mother, Josephine Howard opposite Teyonah Parris of Chiraq, another young actress paving her way. It will be airing this June. I just got cast to star as Ellie, a mother to one of the leads and gifted singer who once performed with James Brown, but now drives a city bus. This is a pilot for A&E called The Infamous, which takes place in the 1990’s. It’s kinda like Straight Outta Compton meets Power…meets Empire. It has the grit and drugs of Power, and it’s the 1990’s, the era of Hip Hop, but it will have the music of Empire. Be sure to watch out for it. I have an Unsung Hollywood coming out on TV One in March. I also have a web series called In the Company of Friends, and a new web series entitled Cooking and Hooking Up, both on www.inthecompanyoffriends.tv, and playing alongside Christian Keyes again in The Preacher’s Son. Remember…Not everyone is a saint…and those who struggle aren’t necessarily sinners. T2T: Good morning gentlemen. I have to say this is a privilege to interview you both. Since I know your time is valuable, I won’t prolong it further. Christian, I will begin with you. You have such a diverse background in entertainment; you are an actor, singer, model, producer, screenwriter, and a former fitness trainer. Tell me about your character and how did you use these talents to bring out the best or the worst in him? CHRISTIAN KEYES: Probably lending insight to all the different things Levi had to deal with like church and the money management on Wall Street. My background prepared me to work with an amazing cast and I was on a comfortable level with all of the talent. As far as comparing it to my life, I try to separate my life from the character. Not to mention, I have a different life from Levi and if I substituted my life for his it would be the wrong emotion. The script was organically written and that made it easy to stay in the moment.

he town of Cypress, Georgia has a long history of “bad blood.” In the midst of their growing presence in this town, Greater Hope Baptist Church will ignite fires that aren’t a symbol of “hope,” instead, they will be used to burn down the relationships that have long since been smoking beneath the surface of everyone’s nose. Miles’ and Levi’s relationship is no different. Two popular faces in the community and church, one favored by Pastor Evan Johnson and considered the prodigal son, the other has moved on with the Pastor’s daughter, Dr. Christine Johnson (the son who remained). Christine and Levi shared a past that may just end up disrupting her present. Levi is left with a great charge, but Miles will try to prove he can do it better…will both cancel out what will matter the most in a showdown of the “battle of the

T2T: Well, that is very interesting. Just proves that you have an ability to tap into your characters with some amazing talent. Can’t wait to see how you channel Levi this season. Keith, same question for you. What background do you have that prepared you for your role? Tell me about your character, Miles. KEITH ROBINSON: I think having grown up in different parts of the country and having experienced different environments as a musician, it was easy to relate to my character, Miles. Unlike Christian’s character Levi, my character and I share a lot of similarities personally, so it worked out. As for what Miles will be doing this season, I love the competition between him and Levi. It is interesting to be playing this out in a church setting. Not to mention, I got to work with Kelly Price who is a lead singer in the choir…and our characters

& Keith Robinson get to play both sides of the fence as saints and sinners. It was enjoyable. T2T: I can’t wait to see how this plays out. It’s clear that the both of you are going to be two of the favorites in this season’s episodes. Which leads me to my next question. How does it feel doing this first original drama series on Bounce TV? CHRISTIAN KEYES: Great! They already have some really good shows on their schedule and I have friends who are on some of these shows. So to bring something different to the table is awesome! KEITH ROBINSON: I agree. It feels good to be a part of a new network that has a fresh premise on a new curve. T2T: How do both of you think the audience will enjoy this drama?

KEITH ROBINSON: That’s true. We had fun making this drama even with all the things the storyline brings into it. I know people will have just as much fun watching it as we did making it. T2T: So, now that you have our ears tuned up and into watching the Saints and Sinners; what else is new with you two? KEITH ROBINSON: Well, I have a single out entitled, “Love Somebody.” It’s available everywhere. I also just finished a 2Pac Biopic: “All Eyez on Me” in Atlanta, as well. loria Reuben is an actress, jazz singer and social activist with an impressive list of credentials in television, film, theater and music. Many will remember Gloria from the hit NBC series ER, whose groundbreaking role garnered her two Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe nomination. Since then, she has had multiple starring roles in a variety of other television series and TV movies, including RAISING THE BAR, FALLING SKIES, THE BLACKLIST, and the upcoming TV series MR. ROBOT. Gloria’s feature film credits are equally impressive. She portrayed “Elizabeth Keckley” alongside Daniel Day-Lewis and Sally Field in the Steven Spielberg film LINCOLN; appeared alongside Paul Rudd and Tina Fey in Paul Weitz’s ADMISSION; and, starred opposite Samuel L. Jackson in REASONABLE DOUBT. On stage, Gloria’s portrayal of Condoleezza Rice in David Hare’s play STUFF HAPPENS at The Public Theater in NYC garnered her a Lucille Lortel Award for Best Actress. Gloria has always had a passion for music. Her music career kicked into high gear when in 2000 she toured as a backup singer for Tina Turner. She then recorded her first solo record JUST FOR YOU. Most recently she caught the ear of Marty Ashby, executive producer at MCG Jazz which has led to the debut of her first jazz album on the label entitled PERCHANCE TO DREAM, a collection of jazz favorites with some new originals. f you are a fan of Ice Cube’s Friday series, then you are familiar with one of this actor’s legendary roles, as “Pinky” the local Pimp with pumped-up hype in Next Friday and Friday After Next. Clifton Powell has also made appearances in Menace II Society, Dead Presidents, Ray, Just Another Day, Why Do Fools Fall in Love, Rush Hour, Deep Rising, Phantoms, and as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Selma Lord Selma. These are just a few of the long list of television shows, films, and box office features in which this notable and eminent actor has had the pleasure of exercising his craft. T2T had a chance to get to the bottom of what has made Powell so gifted, and what’s more…how he tackled his latest project as Rex Fisher in Saints and Sinners.

T2T: How does it feel doing this first original drama series on Bounce TV? CLIFTON POWELL: First, I want to say I am grateful to be in this series. It’s all God’s work. For me, it’s historical! You see, I‘ve been in the game a long time and I have never played this type of character on a major network. The power and strength this character, Rex Fisher, portrays is daunting, tough, and dangerous. The last person to play this type of character was Avery Brooks in A Man Called Hawk. Today you have Scandal, Power, and Empire…well Hawk laid the foundation for that. I love that Rex is multi-dimensional and not watered down. T2T: Your filmography is impressive with various characters you have portrayed.—some comical, some deadly, some spiritual, and even those we love to hate. I know that can be attributed to you taking your craft seriously, which makes you dedicated to the authenticity of each character. What elements did you have to bring into the role of Rex Fisher that were different from any other role? CLIFTON POWELL: When you study the technique of Gene Hackman, Angela Bassett, Charles Dutton, Taraji P. Henson, in what we call “method-acting” ( a range of techniques for training actors to achieve better characterizations of the character as formulated by Lee Strasberg, these techniques can be traced to Constantin Stanislavski’s ideas. Marlon Brando (known for The God Father) is another actor that has mastered this technique. The bottom line is finding the truth, using substitutions, and researching to build upon the character. When you add the creative emotional aspects, you can hit it the right way every time. Listen, method acting goes from the inside out, building from a psychological standpoint and then adding the physical traits with costuming and makeup…in no time, you will be ready to live in the moment and the character’s truth. I will soon be teaching fundamental and master classes on these techniques. T2T: The cast list is impressive. You got to work with a plethora of talented people. What was the highlight of filming this drama? CLIFTON POWELL: In the past, the most episodes in a series that I had to do were five; this one was a total of eight. The challenge was staying connected to the emotional strength of the character - to be consistent every day. I have played tough guys before, so, people expect to see grand slams every time. I like to study at home to hone in on my objectives and beat. Then when I get on set, I am very prepared. I especially wanted to with this series. T2T: I can imagine, as with any project you take on, you do so with some expectations as to where you want to see it go. Were there any expectations with this drama,, and if so, what are they?

It’s going to be riveting, exciting, and it’s not going to go where you think it’s going to go…the “fun” part was trying to figure out where the writers were going to go with this series. So you will share in that experience; it’s going to be juicy and be still, don’t move off that couch, or from in front of your TV…or else you might miss something. Block out your time and just really enjoy it! T2T: Clifton, I can’t imagine you being idle for long, so what is next on the horizon for you? Do you have any other new projects? CLIFTON POWELL: I just finished a film with Director John Singleton called Snow Fall. It’s hot, and I also finished playing Floyd in the 2Biopic: “All Eyez on Me.” I will be doing another project, a play that will tour, called Married But Single by Je’caryous Johnson. We will be in DC, SC, NY, and LA so far. The cast includes Lisa Raye, Darren Henson, and Carl Payne, to name a few. hen most young people are trying to “find themselves,” Zaria Jones Dudley has already established her location and is charting her course –straight to the top! Dudley was born in South Florida and moved with her family in 2006 to Atlanta, Georgia, where she graduated from Tri –Cities High School Magnet Program with honors as a Theater student. While at Tri-Cities High School, she performed in major school productions from Bluest Eyes written by Toni Morrison, to the thought provoking El hajj Malik, about the life of Malcolm X. Dudley was accepted into Long Island University and as fate would have it, began her studies at Albany State University (ASU). She has graced the campus of ASU as a scholar in academics and a thespian worth following. She was recently honored at the University by receiving the following awards: ASU Highest Ranking Speech and Theater Major; ASU Highest Ranking Student (4.0 ) GPA; and, ASU 35 or higher GPA Award. Dudley loves theater life and has graced the stage since pre-school, but her passion for the future consists of being in the court room as a lawyer, and pounding down the gavel as a judge. With the zeal and tenacity that she possesses, the Supreme Court robe will definitely be a part of her attire. She plans to study Family, Immigration and Personal Injury law with Howard University in her sight. Dudley is enjoying her journey at Albany State University, and when not in the library deep in studies, this disciplined young lady arises every morning to run and exercise at 6a.m., making sure to stay at the top of her game. She spends time with her family in Fairburn, Georgia as much as her schedule allows. This young woman is faithful in her spiritual walk and holds close to her heart her favorite scripture, “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.” A community cannot help but embrace such a bright young star who encourages a bright future for our society.■

Makola M. Abdullah:

14th President of Virginia State University

n February 1, 2016, Makola M. Abdullah, PhD was named the 14th President of Virginia State University, a Historically Black, Land-Grant University (one of two in the Commonwealth of Virginia), located in Chesterfield County,

Virginia. In remarks at his introduction to the Trojan Nation, Dr. Abdullah outlined his four core beliefs. “I believe in God; I believe in family; I believe in the transformative nature of education; I believe in Virginia State University.” Dr. Abdullah, his wife, and his mother are products of Historically Black institutions. Both the Abdullah’s son, Mikaili (Morehouse) and daughter Sefiyetu (Howard) will attend an HBCU. “I love HBCUs,” Dr. Abdullah explains, with understatement. “I have a long history of understanding the mission of HBCUs. They represent opportunity in America.” In a departure from his HBCU heritage, Dr. Abdullah attended Northwestern University for his master’s and doctoral studies. At 24, he became the youngest African American in Northwestern’s history to receive a Ph.D. in engineering. Dr. Abdullah and his wife are both natives of Chicago. Their children were both born and raised in Florida. “We’ll have to buy them a coat,” he quips. Before coming to VSU, Dr. Abdullah served as Provost and Senior Vice President at Bethune-Cookman University (BCU), a private, historically Black university in Daytona

Beach, Florida; Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Florida Memorial University, the only Historically Black College and University in Miami; and, as Dean and Director of 1890 Land Grant Programs in the College of Engineering Sciences, Technology and Agriculture at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU). At FAMU, Dr. Abdullah enjoyed a distinguished 15-year tenure. “Dr. Abdullah’s academic credentials are indeed impressive, but what set him apart was his approach to higher education,” said VSU Board of Visitors Rector and Search Committee Chair, Harry Black. “In Dr. Abdullah, we have a President who will position VSU not only to meet the challenges of everchanging technology, but to lead the transformation; to challenge others to keep pace with us.” Rector Black says that Dr. Abdullah is particularly knowledgeable of VSU’s land-grant heritage, noting the more than $5 million in research funding Dr. Abdullah raised as a single Principal Investigor, and the more than $20 million overall he secured from various federal agencies as a faculty member at FAMU. Dr. Abdullah vows to embrace his new role with both hands “in a way you hold something precious.” He plans on engaging alumni with the same vigor, saying “the academic excellence of an institution is defined by the accomplishments of its alumni.” In introducing Dr. Abdullah, Rector Black quoted Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. “’Intelligence plus character is the true meaning of education.’ Dr. Abdullah possesses both of these characteristics and thus, personifies a true educator.”■

Morgan State University Receives $5-Million Scholarship Donation MSU Alumnus and Wife Expand Their Endowed Fund for Students from Baltimore City

etired UPS senior executive Calvin E. Tyler Jr. and his wife, Tina, nationally known philanthropists, announced a $5-million gift to Morgan State University (MSU) for an endowed scholarship fund established in their name at MSU. The fund provides need-based scholarships that cover full tuition for select Morgan students who reside in Baltimore City, the Tylers’ hometown. The couple’s contribution is the largest individual donation in the school’s history and believed to be the fifth largest from an individual to any Historically Black College or University (HBCU). “This incredibly generous donation from the Tylers will provide many talented, hard-working students with a higher education they may not otherwise have achieved,” said Morgan President, David Wilson. “But more than that, it will help ensure the success of Morgan’s mission, and benefit the youth of Baltimore City, at this particularly challenging time and far into the future.” Calvin Tyler was the first person in his family to attend college, when he entered Morgan State to study business administration in 1961. But, he had to interrupt his higher educa-

tion in 1963 because he lacked the funds to continue. He took a job as one of the first 10 drivers at UPS in Baltimore in 1964, during the company’s early days. Two years later, he became a UPS manager and, with much hard work and sacrifice – his own and his family’s – he climbed the corporate ladder, joining the company’s board of directors and becoming senior vice president of operations, the position from which he retired in 1998. “I think anyone who has had any success in life and has the ability to reach back and help others, this is the time for them to do it,” Tyler said. “There are two major things I want to achieve (with the endowed scholarship fund): Number one, to see as many of our young people graduate with a degree as possible…. The second thing that my wife and I are concerned about, and that’s why we’re providing 10 full-tuition scholarships each year, is that we want more students to get a college degree and graduate debt-free.” The Calvin and Tina Tyler Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in 2002 with a $500,000 donation. Another $500,000 followed in 2005, and a $1-million gift was announced in 2008. The recent gift of $5 million is “…a vote of confidence in Morgan State University and Dr. Wilson and his

T2T:Tell us briefly, how did you start this movement? SHADOW WARRIOR FOUNDATION (SWF): I am CPT Ryan Hepworth, U.S. Army Retired, and I am recently medically retired from the U.S. Army due to severe back and neck injury. During my military service, I served as a Registered Nurse in multiple roles. I have specialized training in Combat Trauma Management, Flight Nursing, Combatives, Soldier Mentoring, and Leadership. I deployed to Afghanistan with Task Force 115 as a Combat Trauma Registered Nurse. I worked on the most sophisticated Trauma Team in the world delivering lifesaving care to U.S./Coalition Forces, Afghan Army/Police, and the civilian population of Afghanistan. I completely embraced all aspects of my job. I was and am still dedicated to my Soldiers. They are my Brothers and Sisters and I will NEVER turn my back on them. That being said, this has fueled my drive to do something bigger than me. I will never leave a Soldier behind. T2T: Why is this such a passion?

SWF: My drive came from my wife, Makenzie. Before I was retired from the Army, Makenzie kept telling me that I needed to keep helping soldiers. It’s my true passion. Ten years ago I signed a contract, which is a promise where I’m from. I don’t break my promises. That includes taking care of my Brothers and Sisters for life and that’s what I do on the streets of Atlanta.

T2T: What does the Shadow Warrior Foundation represent? SWF: Shadow Warrior Foundation is a non-profit organization that addresses the most difficult issues that active duty veterans and retired veterans face every day. SWF focuses on homeless veterans and veterans with PTSD. A friend of mine made a great point by saying “homeless and veteran should never be in the same sentence!” We will not rest until our veterans are provided with the benefits they are entitled to - the benefits they earned by fighting for the freedoms we in America enjoy every day. PTSD is a silent killer. Mental scars can be the most damaging. MORE than 22 of my Brothers/Sisters lose their battle to PTSD daily. Sadly, we don’t talk about this, not during the political debates, or on the news. The only time PTSD is brought up in the public is when a service member loses their battle by committing a crime/homicide/suicide. The tragic ending to a Hero Ignored! T2T: Explain the goals of this foundation? What is your vision? SWF recently was invited as an Honorary Vendor during the 5K for the Fallen Heroes of Georgia - a race dedicated to the service members who lost their lives during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Shadow Warrior Foundation Team Members, U.S. Army Soldiers, and U.S. Marines carried a Litter with a person on it for the entire 5K. We never leave a fallen comrade. If I fall on the field of battle, will you carry me home?

Hair loss from Hair Accessories Dr. Linda Amerson

air accessories are a billion dollar industry. Accessories are meant to enhance the hair design, add flair, sparkle, bling, and theatrical drama. In addition, they camouflage fine, limp, sparse, damaged or broken hair strands. Put simply, they conceal social embarrassment of alopecia issues. The image factor is powerful in society. Consumers and licensed professionals need to be informed about the importance of proper usage when it comes to hair accessories. These enhancements may damage your hair and contribute to alopecia and cicatricial alopecia (scalp damage) when used improperly. Bobby Pins & Hair Pins should have rubber tips on the ends. If you have been reusing your hairpins and the protective coating is no longer visible, it is time to throw them away. If you continue using them after the coating is off, you may cause scalp damage. Check the closures to make sure they offer the right amount of tension. Furthermore, some consumers may develop an allergic reaction to the nylon coating on bobby pins and should discontinue use if that occurs. Lastly, if you feel any scalp pain after inserting a bobby pin or hair pin, remove or reposition it. This recommendation also applies for your hairstylist, who may use a hair pin or bobby pin for your style…tell them if it is too tight! The hairstylist cannot feel your pain or read your mind.

4. Banana clips should be used with caution. The metal springs can ruin your hair when used incorrectly, Hair breakage and thinning from this is commonly visible.

5. Rubber Bands should not be used on the hair. Plain rubber bands can be very damaging to the hair!!! Hair breakage is a common result when using plain rubber bands for ponytails with excessive tension. ALWAYS, choose covered ponytail holders or cloth ponytail bands to keep hair in place. Parents, this is a must for your child’s/grandchild’s haircare. Head Bands are popular; however, avoid wearing hair bands on a daily basis. There are several options on the market, stretch, non-flexible, etc. Parents, you really need to pay closer attention to the one size fits all. Your child may have a larger head (no offense) and the chosen headband may be too small for your child’s head size. Most commonly, if you or your child’s hair is dry, damaged, or chemically over-processed, you may be contributing to limited hair restoration. In conclusion, most female consumers/children love the options available in hair accessories. Parents also love to see their baby girl’s hair enhanced with ribbons, elastic balls, jewels, headbands, flowers, bows, etc., but do not go overboard!!! Yes, image is important. In reality, there are also dangers of damaging your hair or your child’s hair if accessories are used frequently and improperly. Bottom line, stop putting so much emphasis on what is ON your child’s hair and focus on the importance of what is IN their head.■

Healthy Is NOT The New Skinny By Camela L. Douglass, M.S. ED.

ur pop culture has it twisted again. Weight should never be the primary measure of health. Healthy is a lifestyle and should never be confused with a trend. We continue to allow the American culture to annually push us into trends that are popular, but in essence make no sense. Just because a fitness guru or celebrity says it, does not make it true. It only makes it profitable. “Healthy is the new skinny” slogan is graced on apparel, magazines, and carelessly spoken out of the mouths of individuals seeking a paycheck from a trend. It scientifically, medically, and psychologically holds no value. If anything, the movement warps body images and places too much value on what healthy should look like at that moment in time. The dictionary definition of health is “the condition of being sound in body, mind, or spirit; especially: freedom from physical disease or pain.” According to the World Health Organi-

zation (WHO), Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being. Clearly, the focus of health should never be about weight, but about overall completeness. It’s not about embracing someone else’s version of healthy, but about embracing your personal version of healthy. I’ve never been motivated to be “skinny.” I’ve always been driven by obtaining overall health and did not seek it as a trend. I can remember when I first lost 50 lbs. Many of my family members thought I had gotten “too skinny.” My sister even said to me “now that’s enough!” They had painted a picture of me as the active “bigboned” woman, not realizing I was truly unhealthy. The small waist and curvy (assumed healthy) body deceived them into believing that I was good. Yet, after seeking the help of a healthcare professional and personal trainer, I realized my personal version of health and continue to work to maintain it. It’s time to identify the “why” and the “how” you’re going to be healthy. Eliminate your chase of trends and embrace your personal version of healthy. Steps towards getting healthy: Decide why you want to be healthy, Seek the advice of a medical professional to determine your health status. Make a plan on how you’re going to start and maintain the plan. Make better food choices. Exercise regularly. Seek emotional & spiritual balance.■

“Path to Peace”

ngie Ransome-Jones is no stranger to loss. In 2002, she lost her mother to cancer after 2 years of watching the gradual deterioration of her life. For years following, she describes each Mother’s Day as feeling similar to a “pap smear….cold, dreadful and uncomfortable, and almost like a violation.” Fast forward 11 years later, Jones lost her father. This time, her loss was sudden and unexpected. It sent her into a whirlwind of emotions, transformation, and eventually peace, which she chronicles in her book “Path to Peace, A Guide to Managing Loss After Losing a Loved One.” In the process of laying her father to rest and settling his earthly affairs, Jones quickly realized there was much more to death than dying. As a result, she has made it her mission and her ministry to educate audiences everywhere about what she refers to as “the process.” In a world of Go Fund Me accounts and family members left to pick up the pieces (emotionally and financially) long after their loved ones have been laid to rest, Jones is putting people on notice, that pre-planning is essential and anything short of that is irresponsible! Since publishing Path to Peace in August of last year, Jones has been invited to share her message from Houston to Little Rock, and will be a featured author at the 2016 National Book Club Conference (NBCC) in Atlanta, Georgia, in July. Her book was also chosen as “A Good Read” in the Arkansas Times 2015 Holiday Gift Guide, and is quickly climbing the Amazon list of bestsellers. When asked about her plans to write a second book, Jones snickers a bit and responds, “…no plans for a second book at this time, but I do plan to keep publishing future editions of Path to Peace until I feel it is complete.” When Jones is not out sharing her message of turning pain into purpose, she works as a banking Vice President and Marketing Project Manager. She also serves as Founder and President of Magnifying our Mothers (M.O.M.), which she founded in 2010 in memory of her late mother. She is an avid community volunteer, a proud member of Alpha Kappa Sorority, Incorporated and a freelance yoga instructor. Jones is married with two sons and lives in Texas. ■

She titled it, “Naked” and writing it was the first step in her healing process. “God revealed to me that He wanted me to expose everything that I had gone through to heal His people.” The pages of her book are filled with personal hurt, bitterness, setbacks, and living with unforgiveness in her heart. Vaughn also discloses how she broke patterns and how her relationship with Christ saved her life. Forgiving others is the first step to a clean heart and mind, a happier life, and most of all, a complete love for Christ. As a result of her emotional healing and new spiritual walk, doors opened. Vaughn has been a guest speaker on several Blog Talk Radio shows, and a spotlight author in magazine articles, as many wanted to hear her story. Her calendar is filling up with opportunities to share with and encourage people. She is currently working on a play that will hit the stage in 2016. What makes Vaughn so amazing is that she isn’t afraid to tell the raw truth of her experiences, and continues to grow in the midst of learning to let go, while encouraging others along the way. She is willing to do whatever it takes to touch people with her story while always giving God the glory. orn on November 9, 1972, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Romella Vaughn grew up feeling hopeless, bitter and lonely not wanting to live anymore. She had no idea that life was a set up for the wonderful life God has now blessed her with. While growing up, she watched her mother struggle with alcohol and drug abuse, which rendered her incapable of raising Vaughn and her three siblings. Her father, who raised all four children on his own, struggled with paranoid schizophrenia, causing him to move from place to place, ultimately causing the family to become homeless. Childhood, for Vaughn was nothing normal. She was forced to take on adult responsibilities when she was 10 years old, and her load was heavy to say the least. Unfortunately, as a teenager; she not only worked, but provided for her baby, three younger siblings and a niece; she also provided for her divorced homeless parents. Vaughn was not sure of why everything was placed on her shoulders, but it caused her to dream of one day having a better life with someone she could have a wholesome relationship with, depend on, and confide in - she wanted a way out. At the age of 21, Vaughn couldn’t bear the burden anymore. She decided to walk away from the dysfunction of her family so she could live a happier life. Instantaneously, there was a feeling of freedom, but that didn’t heal the open wounds inside her heart. In 1997, Vaughn met and married the man of her dreams. It was wonderful at first, but eventually they both struggled with infidelity, which led her back to square one feeling alone, not good enough, and heartbroken. Throughout the years she unknowingly repeated the same pattern, allowing unworthy people into her life, in search of love. The trials of childhood, the infidelity in her marriage, and the betrayal of friends all broke her down. One day in 2014, Vaughn felt in her spirit that she should

How Inspirational Beauty Was Born Starting with Inspirational and Motivational daily posts via social media, Arrington quickly realized that with her gift, she was serving more than just her audience; she believed she was on assignment from the Creator himself. After being contacted by a local newspaper because of her ability to inspire women to be beautiful from the inside out, Arrington was challenged by the newspaper editor to take things further. An interview about her life was running in the newspaper, and she was given 24 hours to come up with a name that would describe exactly who she was. That day, Inspirational Beauty was born.

Who is Kimberly? What started as a simple way to make herself feel better as a result of a broken relationship, soon became an inspiration to many women all around the world. It began as a blog entitled “The Inspirational Corner” and has now reached over 4 million views. The blog encouraged women to love themselves from the inside out, and also provided practical beauty and makeup tips. But, Arrington soon discovered that women everywhere wanted more from her. She began to share what she learned about relationships and business, and who she was spiritually. This resulted in a new group of people who were now reaching out to her. With her very easy and practical steps to business, and insight in relationship matters, Arrington began to attract men who would eventually seek her expertise in coaching and consulting in those areas. This led her to create an Online University. Creation of I Am Me University After much thought and prayer, Arrington wanted to take her gifts and assignment much further. She was led to start and build a community of women to guide, mentor, and teach how to love themselves completely. By using practical teachings mixed with spiritual truths that she used in her coaching business, Arrington was able to see a shift in the lives of everyday women who bought into this unique membership. What started as a small community, has grown into a beautiful sisterhood of women from all over the United States, as well as Europe. With the amazing testimonies of women in the community, it was realized and now documented that Arrington’s creative approach was exactly the method the women needed. The sisterhood soon appealed to the male population who quickly supported this effort. By promoting the University to bring awareness, this effort reached the airwaves appreciated by both men and women alike.

I Am Me Radio I Am Me Radio was formed as an extension of I Am Me University to provide a place for women to hear from the ladies of the University. The show quickly built a following of men and women who wanted to be inspired by its host. With a great format and great guests, I Am Me Radio quickly expanded into two other shows.

On Sunday, March 6, 2016, Brand Ambassadors, John Wilkins (Executive Producer) and wife, Rhonda Wilkins (Creator/Executive Producer) celebrated their 6 th year of honoring men and women around the world who have made renowned marks in life by trailblazing unchartered waters to set trends, build legacies, and lead generations of youth years later… empowering them to become better than the generation before. This year’s lineup was the Who’s Who of ground-breaking legends. Even the Co-Ambassador, Daryl Simmons, who is a Grammy Award-winning R & B songwriter, musician, record producer and music consultant, best known for his LaFace Records affiliation, had his own story to tell. And, hosts, comedian, actor and radio host, Rodney Perry, and Cocoa Brown, also a comedian and actress, who had the audience rolling with laughter all night, are bridging gaps. As each person was introduced and the screen depicted the eras of their lives, the audience either relived the moments they remembered with them, or were introduced to a trailblazer who overcame an obstacle to achieve greater success. You can read up about these honorees just by Googling them. You will find a plethora of information that just may inspire you too. Some of the highlights of the evening included the beautiful Jayne Kennedy-Overton sharing about her life, and how choosing to raise her kids was the reason behind cutting her career short, and she never regretted it. Lieutenant General Honore’ humbly accepted his award and took no credit for his call in life, simply acknowledging it as “his duty.” The beautiful and bodacious KeKe Wyatt hit the tunes that set the stage for the next honoree and performances by Ashthon Jones, Latrese Bush, Black Girl, Katy Shotter, Marcia Chislom, and more shared in gifted talent from the entertainment list. Then in the powerful moment right before the iconic legends Full Force took the stage, we listened to the melodies of the Rude Boys singing songs either written or recorded over the years by this group. Full Force took the stage and did as ONLY FULL FORCE could do…they brought the house down, with old school hits one after the other. As the room filled with fans of young and old who stood and danced to lyrics of our era, it felt like we were shot back two decades, “oh—to be young again”! But we settled for the flashback. Then Paul Anthony shared his testimony of being a two-time Cancer survivor of mantle cell lymphoma and MDS (myelodysplastic syndrome) positioning him to need a bone marrow transplant, which he got from his brother Bow-legged Lou. Both Lou and brother B-Fine shared how they were affected by their brother’s struggle. They then brought up Meli`sa Morgan who blew the roof off the place with her rendition of And I Am Telling You, I’m Not Going upon special request by Lou. Now if you thought that was it…Paul Anthony announced that he and his beautiful wife Michelle were celebrating their 10 th year wedding anniversary and he began to sing a song to her as they brought her up from the audience. It was a moving and beautiful gesture and the audience celebrated in their special moment. eTitia Calhoun Smith Owens- aka (T-Sha) is a native of Dallas, Texas. She is the Founder / CEO of the homeless organization Where Are You? Homeless Outreach. This organization serves the homeless by providing resources to numerous forgotten people who are in need of the basic essentials such as food, shelter, and clothing (www.whererareyououtreach.org) What T-Sha wants people to know is that these individuals are homeless, not hopeless. What is homelessness? T-Sha didn’t know the answer to this question until she actually became homeless. For the first time in her life, her eyes were opened to a community of people who went largely unnoticed and misunderstood by society. Questions began to arise in her mind as she saw groups of individuals walking with bags in the middle of the night, from the front seat of her car (while homeless). Her number one question was, “where are they going? How do people live like this?" T-Sha says “You can be homeless your whole life, searching for your place, purpose, and living unstable day to day.” As her circumstances shifted, the opportunity came for her to complete the writing and production process of her new song dedicated to her journey. National Gospel recording artists, Fred Hammond, Jason Robinson and Erick J. Morgan helped bring this project to life. T-sha released a single/soundtrack, Where Are You? during this difficult, but awakening, process through which she experienced the physical and emotional challenges of homelessness, but not hopelessness. The Where are you? organization naturally emerged after completion of the theme song and regular homeless events began to take place. T-Sha partnered with Desmond Patterson and Dewayne Bryant (by way of Percy Ray Bryant III) who donate their event facility TEN ELEVEN GRILL each month to serve the homeless. As a result of T-Sha’s activities, she now wears several hats: national speaker, television and radio personality, emcee, and beauty advisor, to name a few. She is currently in the process of writing a book about her past titled “How to Get Rid of a Man,” and launching a new fragrance; Chyna by Day & Chyna by Night which will be available soon. Adding to her already busy schedule, T-Sha and her husband J. Wayne are on the move with the launch of Owens Studios and a monthly article called A Love Story, inside Southern Dallas Magazine, Publisher/CEO- James Thomas. Perhaps you’ve seen a glimpse of T-sha on Sunday’s Best (in the audience) or on the show with Kirk Franklin. She has assisted Franklin as his stylist and background singer for years. She Sha has also worked with various artists including; Prince, Fred Hammond, Mint Condition, Myron Butler, Joy Hill, Anthony Evans, Melani Ismail and Marvin Sapp. In addition, T-Sha has toured with the group Ashanti as they performed the hit song they wrote, “There Is Something Wrong With A Little Bump & Grind.” It was a response to the R. Kelly track back in the 90’s. T-Sha graduated from Arts Magnet in Dallas, Texas, where she majored in music, then continued to pursue her passion for Music education at Texas Woman’s University. On December 7th 2014, she married Leadership Coach J. Wayne Owens which resulted in a blended family made up of four children: Jared, Kelsey, Chris, and Chyna. According to Daniels, only one percent of our nation’s population has gained clarity in their lives, declaring that this one percent controls the remaining 99% because they actually “get it.” But what exactly is “it?” “It” is the inner strength for selfevaluation and identification, recognizing your spiritual being, finding your purpose, working within your full potential, developing your mindset for success, and getting out of your own way of self-sabotage. Most people are afraid to get “it” and step into what that looks like…the fear of not knowing. Daniels will not motivate you, but rather, mobilize you into moving in the right direction. Born in Kansas City and the middle child of three, Daniels is a first generation college graduate. Growing up in a drug and gang infested neighborhood, he was always the peace maker in his family. He was a cool school boy who tried to hide his smartness because he wanted to fit in, yet he never wanted to be with the in crowd. His good grades allowed him to move from a predominately black school to a college prep academy, which separated him from his friends. After finishing school, Daniels worked for a Fortune 500 company and was on the fast track to success. He married his college sweetheart, but after unsuccessful attempts to have children, his wife said she wanted out of the marriage. There he was putting all of his energy and efforts into his family, holding down a great job, living in a big beautiful home, doing exactly what he was supposed to do…and his wife left him. Daniels was devastated. “I distinctly remember being curled up in the fetal position on the living room floor crying my eyes out and seeing headlights of a car shining through my window, and a voice spoke to my spirit and said get up and go upstairs.” Stumbling to the upstairs bathroom, he discovered a tube of his exwife’s red lipstick and with that item he began to carve a message onto the bathroom mirror which read “stay out of your own way.” The spiritual message that was revealed to Daniels was that we cannot live our lives for someone else, or depend on someone else to provide our happiness. We each have a responsibility to ourselves to be strong, be in survival mode, and stay out of our own way of holding onto things that are not for us, or are not beneficial to us. We have the authority to determine our own paths and we should never allow others to get in the way of our success or happiness. At that very point, Daniels stopped crying. He got up, made a plan, got some help, and began pushing himself. A close friend challenged him to write articles of his thoughts, opinions and beliefs as they pertained to life challenges. The first article he submitted to a local newspaper was published, and the success of his writings became a domino effect from then on. Daniels became syndicated with several newspapers within a matter of weeks, and started a weekly column. Six months later he was in just about every newspaper across the country. The purpose driven talk that Daniels communicated in each of his writings pushed him to get out of his own way….and once he took the lid off of his sealed potential, the words of wisdom kept pouring out. He authored several books including “I Need A Wife…Where Are The Real Women?” and “Stay Out of Your Own Way,” that received rave reviews. eet Yvette D. Bennett – published author, screenwriter, producer, and director. Her name may or may not be familiar, but her body of work has not gone unrecognized. She is one of the producers behind the NAACP Image Award nominated documentary, “Light Girls” and is a co-author of “The Strength of My Soul,” an Anthology for women by women authors aiming to motivate and inspire women all over the world by sharing their stories of trials and triumph. The book was created to spread the message of sisterhood among all women. Bennett was born in Miami, Florida, but because her father was in the military, she lived most of her childhood as a nomad, never laying ground roots to any particular place. When her parents divorced, she was very young, and spent a great deal of her childhood years parentless. Bennett’s mother found it difficult to settle, forcing her to live with various family members and friends. Although she could never call one particular place home for an extended period of time, Bennett shares that living the lifestyle of a nomad may have served as the catalyst for her writing career today. “I had to find an outlet to make myself happy, so I would create and write stories that made me happy.” She also found a haven in writing poems, which served to be therapeutic for her. She eventually shared her poems with a friend who pointed out how depressing they were - a response that she wasn’t quite expecting. “I never thought they were depressing. I just shared what I felt – like a child growing up not really having parents, and feeling like nobody wants or loves you because you’re bouncing all over the place. That’s how I felt so that’s how I wrote.” Throughout high school, Bennett excelled in all of her English courses and was favored by her English instructors because of her writing skills. Her fellow classmates would seek refuge in her, hoping to be freed from daunting creative writing assignments, and she was much obliged to come to their aid. She won many praises from them when they received high scores for their innovative compositions. “Friends would ask me if I could write a paper for them, so I would whip up a paper quickly and they would get an “A” on the paper.” Bennett recalls how amazed her friends were at how quickly she could write the stories and meet the guidelines at the same time. It was at that point when she began to view writing as a possible career choice. But, of course, it was only a thought. It wasn’t until much later, when another friend, who was enrolled in film school approached Bennett about writing a

script for her. She had never written a screenplay, but was willing to take a shot at it provided that she was taught the proper format. Her friend gave her a quick lesson on formatting and Bennett produced a script. After receiving an “A” on the assignment, her friend urged Bennett to enroll in film school for screenwriting. Initially she was reluctant, but her friend was relentless, and ultimately led her to meet with one of the counselors at the school. By the end of the meeting, she was officially a film student. It wasn’t until Bennett started shooting short films as a part of her assignments that she felt an awakening, “It was like I was finally alive! I felt like I was born to write and direct. There is no other job for me. THIS is my passion.” And so her film production career began. She started working on various film projects. While working on a project with several peers, she met a producer who was later hired to work on a Universal Studios film. Another employee had been terminated from the Asset Coordinator position on that film, so the producer referred Bennett for the job, and the rest, as they say, is history. Bennett has worked with legendary artists such as Gladys Knight and veteran actor, Danny Glover, just to name a few. When I asked this creative vessel to share her advice with those who wish to live out their dreams, but may feel as though it’s too late or that their dreams are nearly impossible to obtain, she expressed how strongly she believed in following your passion no matter what. “Follow your dreams. If you can dream it, you can have it.” Bennett shared that before she secured her job as Asset Coordinator with Universal Pictures, she worked 2 years for free, which she believes is one of the reasons she was hired. “At the time, I was struggling. I was living with my brother. I had no car. I had no savings. I had gone through a really rough time in my life losing everything, but because I knew this is what I wanted to do, I was not giving up. I started over in my forties. I’m living proof that it is NEVER too late and that you can live your dreams.”■

Why the Number of Successful Women Entrepreneurs is Growing

ver the past 20 years, the number of businesses owned by women has grown more than 42%. In 2004, the Center for Women’s Business Research stated that women own 10.6 million businesses in the United States; they employ 19.1 million workers (that’s one in every seven employees!); and, their businesses account for $2.5 trillion in sales. What Makes Women Entrepreneurs Successful? Although more and more women are eager to become small business owners, they still face more challenges and obstacles than men. The numbers indicate that many women–owned businesses reach the million-dollar mark, but businesses owned by women are nearly 50% less likely to reach that goal than their male counterparts, making their investments of time and money less profitable than those of men. What characteristics contribute to the success of the percentage of women who do make or exceed the million-dollar mark? First of all, this woman focuses on growth. Running a business is sure to be filled with a ton of details that crop up every day of every week of every month of every year. However, the successful female entrepreneur stays focused on the big picture, continu-

ally prioritizing tasks, so that she is always aware of the highest and best use of her time. Second, this woman takes the time and effort to select and train her team. Since she knows she cannot “do it all” alone, she carefully selects a team that is aligned with her goals. This is time well-spent because her team supports her and, in many cases, represents her to her customers and vendors alike. She also creates policies and procedures that define her team’s responsibilities and operating procedures, thus providing them with the boundaries they need to function, while allowing her to maintain control of their actions. Having a trained team in place frees her to use her time and talents to grow the business. Third, she understands the importance of marketing and forecasting. Most successful female entrepreneurs start companies with the expectation that they are building a business they can sell or pass on to their children. Understanding their target market inside and out, and being able to forecast market forces accurately helps her grow a business that people will want to purchase. Fourth, the successful entrepreneur works hard and plays hard. The successful female entrepreneur puts in many long hours and she is willing to work at whatever it takes to make the business a huge (not mediocre – but huge) success. She understands that work is work and that there is always another day. She feels comfortable with her time management and boundary-setting abilities, thus she will never be a slave to demanding customers. When she works, she works; and when she plays she plays. In short, she has work/life balance. Fifth, she has mastered the skill of branding, marketing, and selling herself and her business. This is a major factor in her financial success. Her personal and company brand is synonymous with quality. Sixth, she has mastered the art of perspective. When things get rough, and when running a business they will, she stays focused and does not let things get her down. She does not take challenges and setbacks personally and keeps focused on the big picture. Seventh, successful women entrepreneurs tend to be socially responsible, and doing good helps their businesses do well. For example, a woman is far less likely than a male entrepreneur to take certain actions, such as moving her company to another state, eliminating staff or reducing employee benefits in response to tax increases. Women entrepreneurs tend to treat their employees better, and give back more to their communities. These actions help shape emerging financial markets and movements. The fact is that the number of $1 million plus companies owned by women has grown 31% from 2002 through 2012. Any woman with an entrepreneurial spirit would do well to review the seven qualities listed in this article, and recognize which of these she has, which she needs to cultivate, and which she can improve. Without a modeling agency, she is making strides in the fashion industry on her own as a freelance plus-size model. Rich has been modeling for three and a half years now as a successful plus-size model. Her first front cover was for Midwest Black Hair Magazine, November 2012 issue, with only 5 months of modeling experience. That project was such a success that Rich became the magazine’s regular featured model, making the front cover four times. She has graced the back cover, inside cover, and centerfold had an editorial spread, and was featured on a number of advertisement campaigns for Midwest Black Hair Magazine. She has been featured in numerous print publications, websites, blogspots, music videos, and worked as a promo model for marketing/advertising companies. Rich’s biggest career move is modeling for SONIC Drive-In Restaurant 2016 Advertisement Campaign. almer Williams, Jr is most famous for portraying the character Floyd Jackson, under the Tyler Perry brand, through various plays and television shows, for the past 11 years. But, there is more to this Camden, Alabama native than the character Floyd who we have all come to know and love. He is an actor, playwright, singer, songwriter and also a landscaper. Yep landscaper...I joined Palmer at one of his favorite restaurants, Capers in Kennesaw, Georgia, to learn more about the man behind the character: Brandi: Are there any similarities between you and our beloved “Floyd Jackson”? Palmer: We are very similar, except Floyd is a lot more serious than I am. Also, I've learned the importance of bridling my tongue. We both have a low tolerance for BS. Brandi: Did you think you would be in this field from the beginning? Palmer: No. I actually went to college and received my BS in Health/ Hospital Administration, and a minor in Biology. However, I realized that it wasn't for me. The “aha” moment came when Rev. David Peyton told me that I was funny. I got my hands on Comedian Reginald Williams' comedy instruction book, and it grew from there. Brandi: When acting, what do you prefer best....plays or television? Palmer: I love the live responses of acting in plays. It allows you to feed off the energy of the audience. Television is more fast pace, but so is the paycheck....lol Brandi: What is your dream role?

It's transitional music from the club to the church. I’m inspired by Stevie Wonder and Babyface. I love their music. I’m currently working on new music as well. Brandi: When you're not on television or the stage entertaining us, what else are you doing? Palmer: For one, I am an entrepreneur. I am the owner of Williams Lawn Care Group, a landscaping company in Georgia. I also enjoy doing community service. When I'm not working or serving, I’m at home lounging with my family and arguing about what we're going to watch...lol. Brandi: I also see that you are very proud of your fraternity membership. Palmer: Yes, I am a life member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. at Knoxville College where both my parents attended. My dad was one of the charter founders of my chapter and it was an honor to continue his legacy. Brandi: What advice would you give to new people in the entertainment industry? Palmer: Take your craft seriously, but not too seriously. Always be willing to invest in yourself and your work. It’s smarter to invest in a promotional photo shoot than the latest pair of Jordans. Write, write, write...and when you're finished, write some more. Always conduct yourself as a professional, and not the person looking for their next 15 of fame online. Lastly, equip yourself with the proper information and experi-

ence so you are always prepared for opportunities that may come your way. I meet people all the time who say they are ready to enter the entertainment field, yet they have no resume/headshot/promotional material. It takes more than just desire. Brandi: What is one of the misconceptions about being Palmer Williams Jr.? Palmer: For one, people automatically think that because I’m on a Tyler Perry/OWN show that I'm rich or that I can “hook them up” with opportunities (I need more work myself...lol). We all have to work for our roles on the shows and plays, and we do other work in between. Sometimes the cast of the television shows don't see each other for a year in between tapings; it’s not continuous work. Tyler is not a person I can call up on the phone to make referrals to. Brandi: One thing is for sure is that you are a family man. Palmer: Yes, I am married and have four beautiful children. My mother and father were college sweethearts and I lived in a loving home. My father was my best friend. Brandi: What empowers you to keep going? Palmer: A long time ago, my father asked me a powerful question, ‘When are you going to stop making everyone else rich and start doing something for yourself?’ Between constantly remembering that, and the family I come home to each day, I continue to work on my goals. I also meditate on the fact that God is faithful, even when we're not. FULL FORCE, legends in their own right…and brilliant creative lyrical writers and producers are still relevant in both the world of entertainment and life! The group evolved from three brothers: Paul Anthony, Brian George (B-Fine) and Lou George, Jr. (Bowlegged Lou) who exemplified musical talents as youth, and were encouraged by their father, Lucien George and mother, Carmen to sing. Although they were gifted, they experienced many highs and lows building their brand. WAGING WAR ON CANCER WITHOUT SKIPPIN’ A BEAT Written by Shernita Wiggins-Wynder Recently I met the group of Full Force at the Legendary Awards Health Fair at the Greenbrier Mall in Atlanta, Georgia. Most would not think that you would find these three “healthylooking” and fine African-American brothers who were known for “taking it off,” at an event like this. B,ut they were not there to entertain, quite the opposite…they were there to EDUCATE and share their voice about a cause near and dear to their hearts: Cancer awareness and the importance of being a bone marrow transplant donor and how to become more “proactive” about your health and wellness. Paul Anthony, who was diagnosed in 2006 with mantle cell lymphoma, shared his battle with the disease and how he beat cancer not once…but TWICE. You heard it right; he is a TWO-TIME Cancer Champion! Bowlegged Lou, who was a match for Paul Anthony, donated 9 Million stem cells, dubbed by his brother, Bone Marrow Donor Champion, because he only needed 6 Million and he produced more than the average donor. His story is moving and inspirational and this is what he had to share with T2T… T2T: Tell us something about Paul Anthony that few know about him, yet it will inspire others. Paul Anthony: I’m a co-producer and featured actor in a riveting stage play on domestic violence, Then Sings My Soul. It’s a presentation of life success. I used to be a social worker who dealt with hundreds of single mothers and fathers, so I have firsthand experience with domestic violence. T2T: Wow! That is amazing, I really didn’t know that. But that is a great thing that you are doing. So who would you say is the most influential person in your life? Why? Paul Anthony: I’d have to say two people: my father for giving me his musical gift, and my mother for giving me the gift of life. T2T: You have done so many outstanding things, what has been the highlight of your career? Paul Anthony: It would have to be, that we (Full Force) were the last and only writer-producer team to do an entire album on the Godfather of Soul, Mr. James Brown. T2T: Yep…I’d say that’s a highlight and an honor. We know you have a bond with your brothers; how was your relationship with them in childhood? What is it like now, and what has changed for the better?

2006? What part did your faith play? I know your beautiful wife Michelle, and brothers Lou and Brian were there every step of the way. How did your family support react? Paul Anthony: My family support was priceless and continuous, but of course this was a shock to everyone. What helped was the way I handled it. I immediately went to work on myself, doing essentially the same things I do when training in the gym or on stage: Calling upon energy from the universe and the rain forest from within. The Father gives His toughest battles to His toughest warriors. T2T: What were your low points after being diagnosed with Mantle Cell Lymphoma? What were your high points? Paul Anthony: A low point was being in reverse isolation after my bone marrow transplant and intense immune system lowering treatments, and not being able to help my group create or produce music. A high point was knowing that I wasn’t done. I had more work to do, and that I was chosen by His grace for purpose—to manufacture and distribute as much love-electric as possible. T2T: What can you share with our readers from your experience that can help someone dealing with the same thing you did ,or may have someone close to them dealing with it? Paul Anthony: Surround and insulate yourself with confident-love, like-energy and Christ-currency, and get into breathing exercises. Your breath is your best friend and of course, you’ve got to maintain your God-sexy! Implementing healthy lifestyle choices, spirituality and mental focus are the most important defenses in combating illness and maintaining a healthy life. T2T: What legacy will you leave for future generations? Paul Anthony: The lineage of music, film and being a HEALTH/CANCER CHAMPION! T2T: What is your favorite quote that you will leave with us and your fans? Paul Anthony: “Move like it’s already done, and fight your fight like it’s already won!”■

efore you put your home on the market, there are some simple tips to help you put your best foot or home forward. Read the tips below and Happy Selling! 1. Declutter: Less Is More This is a great time to purge and release. Go through your home room by room, declutter and organize. Establish three piles to put items in; keep, store and donate. Box up items that will be stored and look into the cost of renting an offsite storage unit. Items that will be donated can be taken to a local charity. When your home is free of unwanted or unnecessary items this helps the home to appear larger.

2. Cleaning the C’s: Cabinets, Closets, Countertops and Carpets Yes, cleanliness is the key. Make sure to clean your cabinets and closets. Buyers will open doors to the cabinets and closets. For the cabinets, group similar items together; for example, in the kitchen cabinets put similar items on the same shelf and have labels facing forward. Think of how items look on shelves at the grocery store. Use this same method for bathroom cabinets as well. Now, for the closets remove excess clothes so that clothes can move easily without appearing stuffed. This helps to show ample space. Remove excessive items from all countertops (bathroom and kitchen) and keep regularly used items; such as coffeemaker, toaster, electric toothbrush or other small appliances to a minimal. Shampoo the carpets. Overall keep your home clean while potential buyers are viewing your home and until it’s sold.

3. Paint: Freshen Up the Walls Sometimes touch up paint in high traffic areas such as; kitchen, hallways or kids’ bedrooms can make a big difference. If your home has very personalized colors on the walls or wear and tear is showing, it would be worth the money to paint the walls a neutral color. Neutral color does not have to be beige; it can be gray, taupe, calming green or other soothing colors. This is money well spent and can bring great returns. 4. Accessorize: Accent the Positive Instead of purchasing a new sofa, buy new pillows and or a slipcover. Make the bedroom look and feel like a hotel suite with a new comforter/duvet set; and, let’s not forget the bathroom - add accent colored towels. Bathrooms do help sell a home, so merchandise like a hotel suite. The goal is to get your home sold, so make it look “Magazine Ready.” 5. Fresh Flowers: Now Smell the Roses Have a bouquet of flowers on a hallway table, placed perfectly in the kitchen or small vases with one or two big flowers placed throughout the house.
