TRI-CITIES CHAMBER MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION ADVOCACY IN ACTION As the voice of business for Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Anmore and Belcarra, the Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce advocates on behalf of its members with all levels of government, on issues that affect business, community, and economic prosperity in our region. We are an active member of the BC Chamber of Commerce, which represents the interests and concerns of Chambers and businesses across the province, as well as the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, which speaks for more than 175,000 businesses on national and international issues. Topics for government relations and advocacy in 2023 included extending the deadline for CEBA (Canadian Emergency Business Account) loans, ending labour disruptions at West Coast Ports, supply chain

challenges, local development proposals, and more. We hosted our Annual Economic Summit in May, featuring keynote speakers BC Premier David Eby, and Scotiabank Chief Economist JeanFrançois Perrault. We also ensured access for our members to speak directly to political leaders through events and roundtables with MP Ron McKinnon, MP Bonita Zarrillo, BC Minister of Children and Families Mitzi Dean, BC Official Opposition Leader Kevin Falcon, monthly Mayor’s Coffee Talks, and the annual Mayors BBQ. The Tri-Cities Chamber participated in the BC Chamber of Commerce and Canadian Chamber of Commerce Conventions and policy debates, resulting in the annual policy manual that sets out advocacy efforts for the year (in addition to emerging issues), available on our website.

The Tri-Cities Chamber advocates on behalf of its members with all levels of government.

FEATURE STORY TRI-CITIES CHAMBER SIGNS JOINT MEMBERSHIP “I am thrilled we are bringing all AHBIA members on board as Chamber members so they can take full advantage of the advocacy, benefits, resources, and connections that the Chamber has to offer.” ~ Lisa Landry, Executive Director, AHBIA

The Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce is welcoming more than 300 member businesses from the Austin Heights Business Improvement Association (AHBIA), thanks to a membership agreement between the two organizations. The AHBIA has purchased a Chamber membership for its area businesses for five years. “It’s true there is strength in numbers,” said Leslie Courchesne, CEO, Tri-Cities Chamber. “Joining forces with Tri-Cities business associations and significantly growing the size of our Chamber will greatly benefit our local business community as a whole. My sincerest thanks to the AHBIA leadership team for investing in a Chamber membership for their 300 member businesses.” “As the executive director of the AHBIA, and a past board member with the Tri-Cities Chamber, I am proud of the strong relationship between our two associations, and I know the exceptional value a Chamber membership can bring to businesses,” said Lisa Landry. “I am thrilled we are bringing all AHBIA members on board as Chamber members so they can take full advantage of the advocacy, benefits, resources, and connections that the Chamber has to offer.” The AHBIA block membership has grown the Tri-Cities Chamber

to surpass 1,300 member organizations for the first time in its 50+ year history, placing it among the top five largest Chambers and Boards of Trade in the province. The AHBIA and Chamber worked together on this new partnership for the AHBIA to purchase a group membership with the Chamber at no additional cost to AHBIA businesses. AHBIA members who are existing members of the Chamber will transfer into the new group membership. The Chamber and AHBIA celebrated the new partnership at a member mixer held at the John B Pub in Austin Heights last week. Chamber ambassadors and staff have visited AHBIA businesses to deliver welcome packages and gather contact information.

The five-year block membership agreement is the Chamber’s second agreement with a Business Improvement Association (BIA), having signed the Downtown Port Coquitlam BIA in 2022. This groundbreaking partnership was featured in the Canadian Chamber of Commerce national e-newsletter, sparking interest from chambers, boards of trade, and BIAs across the country.

MEMBER FEATURE FLOORING COMPANY LETS YOU CHOOSE FROM OVER 3,000 SAMPLES, The wide range of flooring products currently available in today’s market means you have every opportunity to personalize this critical feature of your home with endless possibilities. As an owner of Port Moody’s Floor Coverings International, it’s safe to say Andrea Ricardez-Gortarez has seen a lot of floor coverings in her day, in both her current profession and as a property manager in Mexico. After all, Gortarez allows clients to choose from more than 3,000 samples when she brings the floors to your home in their Mobile Flooring Showroom, just one of many aspects of their professional, full-service. Gortarez operates the business with her husband Juan, opening shop in September 2022 after she and her family immigrated to Canada in August 2022. “We bought the franchise and had been working very hard remotely before we moved,” explains Gortarez. “We put in over 200 hours of training before opening, so it has been quite a journey.”

Clients can choose from more than 3,000 samples — we bring the floors to their homes in our Mobile Flooring Showroom, just one of many aspects of our professional, fullservice. ~ Andrea Ricardez-Gortarez, owner Port Moody’s Floor Coverings International

When you book a complimentary in-home consultation, one can’t overstate the convenience and benefits. The company’s high-touch level of service is unparalleled in the industry. As Gortarez reveals, they are with you through each step of your new flooring project, from selection to installation. “What I like about this process is you can interact with the floor directly in your home, with your own lighting, your furniture and wall colours,” she describes. “You have to feel it and see it in different lighting to make an informed decision. We set aside about 1.5 hours for each appointment to get to know you, your needs, and your style. We’re able to provide better solutions by interacting with you, asking questions and looking around your space.” “We also move the furniture, clean after everything has been installed and provide supervision on all our projects,” she adds. “We’re trustworthy, responsible and caring, and we’ll treat your home in a respectful way.” You want your floor covering to be visually appealing, of course, but you also must consider things like high-traffic areas, colour , your lifestyle, if you have kids or pets, and how you live in the space.

MEMBER FEATURE BRINGING FLOORS TO YOUR DOOR

“I ask customers to close their eyes and visualize the perfect room for them, the way they want it to feel and the way they want it to look because that is what we need to achieve,” explains Gortarez. “I can’t pick floors for my customers or prescribe a cookie-cutter solution for them. Their product choice depends on the vibe, the look and the feel they’re going after. So, I need to understand perfectly what they’re looking for and what their heart desires in order to help.” Floor Covering International offers a full assortment of floor coverings, from laminate, vinyl, and hardwood to carpet, tile, stone, and environmentally-friendly options.

“Everybody is looking for vinyls these days because there are so many beautiful and realistic looks and textures to choose from, and they are so easy to care for” reveals Gortarez. “Most times they outperform the original materials.” Gortarez admits she is humbled to be part of their customer’s lives for a while: “You open your doors to us, and I understand it’s a sacred place, much more now than ever, and share a little bit of your lives. And that’s special to me.” For more information, visit nevan.floorcoveringsinternational.com.

MEMBER FEATURE LOCAL FAMILY PLUMBING BUSINESS IS PROUDLY CELEBRATING 16 YEARS IN BUSINESS A.T.A. Plumbing and Drain Cleaning Ltd. is expressing its gratitude to clients for entrusting them with all your plumbing needs.

A.T.A. Plumbing and Drain Cleaning Ltd. is proudly celebrating 16 years of serving the Tri-Cities.

Below: How it’s going - Alex, Tomas, Adam, and Anna look forward to serving the community for years to come. Photo via: A.T.A. Plumbing & Drain Cleaning Ltd.

“We would like to pause to reflect and thank all our clients for supporting our small family business,” says co-owner Anna Teglasi. “The Tri-Cities have been a wonderful place to grow our business and family. We are grateful for the communities support.” Teglasi and her husband Tomas started the business over the kitchen table when their firstborn son was a month old. Not everyone sees having a newborn baby as the best time to start a new enterprise, but for the Teglasis, it was a now or never leap of faith. Tomas has been plumbing since high school, and Anna boasts an education in business; it was a match made in heaven. A.T.A. Plumbing and Drain Cleaning Ltd was officially incorporated on Oct 11, 2007. A.T.A. stands for Adam, Tomas, Alex. Although, their second son was yet to be born. Anna likes to joke that she did not leave herself out of the business name. She’s behind the scenes both in daily operations and the company image. Their business phone number is the acronym of her name: 992-ANNA. It hasn’t been easy getting here,” says Teglasi.

“When we first started, we had no clients, no reputation. No one had ever heard of us. I did what any determined business owner would do. With my infant son in tow, I’d drive around town distributing our flyers to every community board, coffee shop and realty office– wherever we thought viable. And it paid off.”

to build in this industry, but that’s what has developed our positive reputation over the years. We have fostered a customer-centric culture in our company, and that’s one of the reasons our clients return to us and refer us. Our clients know when they call A.T.A. Plumbing, they will receive the most honest and reliable service.”

When asked what sets A.T.A. apart, she continues, “the number one thing that contributes toour success is our integrity and credibility.”
