TALKS ABOUT HIS FIRST #1 SINGLE
presented by
kidstown.triangletoday.com
David Menconi for Triangle Today Since Scotty McCreery won “American Idol” seven years ago, the Garner native has had plenty of chart success, including Top 10 singles and No. 1 albums on Billboard’s country charts. But he’s never had a song hit No. 1 on the Billboard country charts – until now. “Five More Minutes,” the first single from McCreery’s upcoming album “Seasons Change,” turned the trick this week by hitting No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart. The song was originally released last year and was given a renewed push by McCreery’s label to lead “Seasons Change.”
“I’m excited,” McCreery said recenlty after getting the news. “It was a big mountain to climb. “Albums are cool, and a lot of that on the Billboard 200 was heat from the show,” he said, referring to “Clear as Day,” his debut album after winning Season 10 of the FOX singing reality competition in May 2011. “But this gives more validity to what I’ve been doing,” he said. “Credibility as an artist has been the goal the last few years — to move away from the TV guy who was on ‘American Idol’ to be a country artist with songs and stories.”

Summer music concert dates heat up
presented by Triangle Today
Imagine Dragons returns to Raleigh. Scott Sharpe David Menconi for Triangle Today Imagine Dragons, the platinum-selling band from Las Vegas, is coming to the Triangle this summer. The group’s “Evolve Tour” comes to Raleigh’s Coastal Credit Union Music Park at Walnut Creek on July 5. That’s a big jump up as far as venue capacity, from 5,990-capacity Red Hat Amphitheater a few years back to Walnut Creek’s 20,000. Along with the new album “Evolve,” this summer’s Imagine Dragons tour will coincide with the HBO release of a documentary called “Believer.” A film that premiered at last month’s Sundance Film Festival, “Believer” follows Imagine Dragons frontman and practicing Mormon Dan Reynolds as he tries to reconcile his faith with the church’s treatment of LGBTQ people. Tickets for Imagine Dragons available now. Check livenation.com for details. Imagine Dragons is one of 24 concerts on Walnut Creek’s 2018 calendar so far. Check out a couple of other biggies below. THE EAGLES The Eagles routinely sell out their venues, thanks to their vast catalog of Grammy Awardwinning songs and No. 1 hits. This tour is the first since original member Glenn Frey died in 2016. The band has called upon country star Vince Gill and Frey’s son, Deacon Frey, to take turns on lead vocals on Glenn’s songs. When: April 17, PNC Arena, Raleigh. thepncarena.com BON JOVI This show comes shortly after Bon Jovi is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (alongside NC native Nina Simone). That should give it the vibe of a triumphant victory lap. When: April 24, PNC Arena, Raleigh. thepncarena.com
