message from the editor Welcome once more to TRIBIC, this world’s ever-evolving magazine! Sure we take things slow; but we definitely send them all packing when it comes down to it! I really loved working in this issue, many of the old faces were here too so we have an iron-clad teamwork; you will notice that the quantity of articles is less than in Issue 2, however you will notice we have MORE pages this time around! Every single one of us ensures we delivered something good; something great. Something TRIBIC! TRIBIC Codename: Evolution for me was a restart on the magazine itself; this time we worked a lot on the design of the magazine in order to make it truly unique. We focused on quality content so that the entirety of the mag is readable by everybody. We ensured that we WILL deliver within the timeframe we had promised. Every TRIBIC from now on will have a Codename assigned to it: they are not random. We chose Evolution first because TRIBIC has just now began to tap the potential it can reach. TRIBIC is all about you: the Gaming Triber. We will make you proud. What I love about Gaming Tribe is the existence of projects like this magazine; we show that we are a really tight community! I would like to give a shout out to a fellow volunteer project, Community Game Night! (Version 2.0) Ben Enos and Timothy Rhyne are the ones leading this, where basically GTribers gather and play games together! Of course, CGN is getting streamed so everyone from GT can come join to the chat and have a blast together! CGN is on every first and third Wednesday of the month, is always reminded before it begins! Currently Left 4 Dead 2 is the trend, but Ben told me that soon there will be more games available. Really important, EVERYBODY can join and play! Really, they even accepted that I play with them and I just LOVE letting my comrades die! Evolution Begins. TRIBIC starts. Enjoy!

game Review Ne v er Alone

When hard and soft collide.

When a game has so much historical background, whether it’s based on reality or if it’s the work of fiction, this richness seeps into every aspect of the game. World class developers and Alaska Native storytellers and elders teamed up. Sounds awesome, right?

Never Alone finds it’s source of inspiration rooted deep in the Iñupiat (Alaska Native people) folklore. The team of Upper One Games along with nearly 40 Alaska Native elders, bring us the story of Nuna. A young Iñupiat girl and her unlikely companion: an arctic fox that will help her find the source of the blizzard that threatens life in the frozen tundra. This adventure will take you through both beautiful and dangerous environments. Along the way, you’ll meet friends, foes and spirits, which will aid you or try to stop you on your journey. The game is beautifully crafted and captivating in all the right ways. Animation is so organic and fluent, it sets a great visual pace to the story, along with an enveloping and immersive soundtrack that sets the mood brilliantly with its snowy and desolate, yet beautiful chords. This puzzle platformer is traditional in its gameplay, which keeps the game grounded to the genre.

july 2015

A precision platformer at heart, Never Alone fools you with its cute characters challenging your right from the start. The game also incorporates the possibility to play co-op or single player, switching amongst both characters to solve puzzles. It definitely enhances the overall experience of the game. One of the main purposes of Never Alone as a project, is for it to serve as a cultural rescue of Native Alaskan tradition. The game comes with a compilation of videos that will give you a deeper insight on the game’s lore. These can be unlocked as the game progresses. The gorgeous cinematics are directly inspired in the art of the Iñupiat. The story is told by an Iñupiat storyteller. These elements combined with an enthralling ambience (art and music-wise) result in a superb artistic blend that makes this game a rich narrative experience. Immersive

On the downside, there are a few things we must consider, because they add up to how challenging the game already is. For starters, controls are a bit wonky, for which I’d recommend to play it using a gamepad. The game also has some really creepy bugs that will more often than not force you to restart the game or voluntarily die in order for you to move on. This shouldn’t stop you from playing it though. It’s a highly rewarding gaming experience overall, with amazing content and a heartwarming story. Never Alone was awarded “Most Impact” in Games for Chance 2015 and was Destructoid’s “Editor’s Choice” in 2014. Also, it was awarded “Best Debut” in BAFTA 2015. All well earned. You can purchase this title on Steam for only $14.99. Totally worth it despite its few flaws.

Game Developer Corner

by Miljenko Švarcmajer TRIBIC Gaming Magazine is very proud to continue what it started last issue, although in a bigger scale: the Gamer Development Corner! Just to clarify, in this column we will interview a GTriber that is involved with a game development project, or an already released game! And that is the only criteria TRIBIC requires in order to host this! For this issue, we will be having a talk with Miljenko Švarcmajer and this TCG game in development, Velos.

Alex: I guess I have to start with the obvious question for this interview, what IS Velos? Miljenko: Well, obvious question requires obvious answer :). Velos CCG is a collectible card game with D6 dice. We are working on a digital version, physical version (board game) and something yet unseen in any similar games. We’re making a connection between those two. Alex: I see, so players will be able to do with both, though I am quite unsure about the connection, if you could elaborate on that a bit it would be great! Now personally I have played quite a few card games, ranging from Magic to Pokemon, I always loved that specific genre! Miljenko: So, about the connection.... The idea is to make a physical card available to be played in a digital version by scanning the card in the game using a web cam. Every card the player has in a digital version will be printable if player wants to have physical deck. There are few short videos on YouTube explaining the game rules. It takes about 10 minutes for a player that played similar games to learn how to play Velos. For non-gamers it’s a bit longer. Personally, It’ took me about an hour and a half to teach my wife how to play the game. I would like to emphasize....She isn’t a gamer at all Alex: I see; we will have to include the YouTube links then! Now, how simple or complex Velos is? How many different ways/strategies you so far have established in the game? Miljenko: Let’s say velos is easy to learn and hard to master game. There are two main strategies. You can defend your avatar or attack the enemy. I’m using offensive tactics but I saw a few excellent defensive tactics. Alex: How many cards are there currently in Velos and how many do you aim for before the release of thje game? Miljenko: The first set (Aruliin) of 105 cards is almost over. More than 90 cards is ready for a board game. Digital version goes a bit slower. We have about 30 cards programmed. Every player will have the same deck called starter deck (56 cards).

8

july 2015

Alex: Is there any lore in Velos behind the cards, like Magic the Gathering? Miljenko: So...long time ago , there was a planet called Earth. No one knows why, but suddenly, there were two planets. Two identical twin planets standing next to each other. Same size, same look, same creatures.... This long forgotten event is called the Splitting and it exist only in legends on both of the planets. Why in legends? Because, as always, the universe has found the way. It transferred one of the planet in parallel pocket of the existence. The other planet is now known as Velos and while on the other twin planet there is a science and industry, Velos has magic. We’re planning to put together all of the stories we have about Velos and its creatures on our own Velos wiki. There is a lot to be told about the world. Alex: Do you have a number of cards you are aiming for before release? Miljenko: As I mentioned before, there is already enough cards for a release. For the beginning, everyone will have 56 cards. Not all of them are programmed, but we’re using about 85 of them in prototype of the board game. Alex: I see; that’s all very interesting! Personally, I like reading the lore, or even the card’s gimmicks (if any) so I am really looking forward to this! Who is involved in the production of Velos? Miljenko: Velos was started by 4 faculty students. Igor Bobić artist and a graphic designer, Sonja Vrtarić business developer , Dario Kuzminski lead programmer and Miljenko Švarcmajer technical developer. By now, all of us have a masters degree, we’re no longer students and we’re trying to make Velos alive. Igor Bobić - artist and a game designer, he started all of this. We have a few artists that are donating their artwork for the game . Alex: Ok my friend, final question! When will we see a release date for Velos? Good luck with everything! Miljenko: Well, releasing of the game needs a good amount of funds unfortunately! Everything we have done so far we did so with almost no money but when it comes to actually release Velos, we kinda hit the wall. Hopefully, we will be able to release a board version of Velos, with the digital one taking turn right after that!

To give you an example, this this issue’s issue’srecipe recipewill willcontain... contain...Bacon! Bacon! That’s right, bacon! bacon! Onwards Onwards to to the therecipe! recipe!

GREEN PEAS WITH BACON For 4 servings you will need:

10

500gr of peas (normally one bag of frozen peas)

2-3 slices of bacon

50ml tomato sauce (you might have to use a bit more)

50ml water (again, you might have to use a bit more than that)

Olive Oil

One small onion

Salt&Pepper

Some dill

INSTRUCTIONS •

Chop the bacons and the onion. Also, finely chop the dill.

Pour olive oil in a casserole or a large frying pan, enough to cook the peas.

Sautee the onion in medium heat. Cook it for 2-3 minutes and add the bacon. Let it cook for 1 more minute.

Add the peas into the pan. You don’t have to defrost it as they will cook nicely on it, plus the water from the peas will help everything cook evenly. Stir everything and let it cook for 1 minute.

Add the tomato sauce and stir. After you see the sauce has mixed well with the peas, add the water. If you see the peas drying up, add some more sauce and/or water.

Cover the pan and let it cook until peas are warmed through. It should take around 5-7 minutes to properly cook.

Lift the pan and add the chopped dill. Remove the pan from the fire and stir so the dill spreads evenly. Salt and pepper; make sure to taste before you add too much! It will only need a little seasoning, as the taste is pretty

strong. •

Enjoy!

This dish doesn’t require too much preparation or too much time to cook it! You can have this done under 30 minutes! Pro’s Tips and Tricks The reason we add the dill and the seasoning at the end is because we want to maximize the taste of the entire dish. If you add them early, especially the dill will lose all of its taste and might even feel a bit rubbery! Thank you for reading TRIBIC Game Healthy! Next time we will create a salad! Don’t make that face! A normal salad would be an insult to a Triber, so instead we will make a super salad that is actually a recipe that is served in a 5-star hotel! Stay tuned for it!

exclusive interview

angel munoz

Way before this interview happened or during the course of it, I was a bit nervous about it. However, Angel was polite and kind to me and even helped me on some parts in order to make the interview look better! I have to admit I wasn’t expecting such lengthy answers, but he took it very seriously; his replies were top notch! As true GTribers, we used Gaming Tribe’s instant messenger to conduct the interview live! All right, let’s delve into the interview now!

Alex: Hello Angel! First of all, I want to say thanks for agreeing to this and taking the time to actually do it! Now, I do have some interesting questions lined up, but I am going to start with the very obvious! What do you think of TRIBIC Magazine so far? Angel: I think TRIBIC Magazine is a very visible example of the differences between our social media network and all others. For example, I have never heard of a Facebook magazine, designed, published and promoted by the users of Facebook. Then when compared with other gaming sites, again the distinction is obvious, because Gaming Tribe is not a content provider, and instead we’re laser focused on enhancing the communication between the members of our community, providing by consequence a growing number of opportunities for members to pursue their own projects and provide relevant content to other members. Only in a rich environment like this, can TRIBIC Magazine become a reality, and we hope it’s just the beginning of the many projects that could be pioneered by the members of our global community. Alex: Excellent answer; as the editor of TRIBIC I thank behalf the entire team! You have my word we will keep striving to make the magazine better and make Gaming Tribe proud. Now that the dust has settled down, how well received was GOD Mode among the peers of Gaming Tribe? Angel: Overall, fantastically well by those who understand the concept, value our ad-free network and realize that we do not want to ask for donations or pollute the News Feed with sponsored ads. Then there was the vocal minority (really just a handful of people) who could not manage to express their disagreement with the program, without demonstrating a great degree of insensitivity and cynicism. I’m happy most of those left our community, as honestly we don’t need them. Oscar Wilde once said, “What is a cynic? A man who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.” Alex: I quite agree with this statement, this community really does not need such folk; we are better off without them, especially if we want to maintain a healthy community. Now, a GOD Mode Power has already been made public, in order to

be replaced by Polymorphing; wonderful ability by the way, a lot of GTribers are really happy with that one. Does this mean that there are more GOD Mode Powers in store for us? If yes, what can expect out of them? Angel: The idea behind GOD Mode is not only to have a select group of members who will have exclusive access to some unique network features (i.e. powers), but also to make it fun and evolutionary. When a new power is introduced (that is not complimentary with any of the current twelve powers) we will select one power and make it accessible to all of the Gaming Tribe members, as we recently did with cloaking. This gives GOD Mode a very Promethean quality, as we are offering the GOD “fire” to humans. Right now we are focused on enhancing the current powers, and not necessarily creating new ones. Alex: Recently, we saw the addition of new sponsors, and the renewal of current ones. What is the procedure of becoming a sponsor and how is it decided by Mass Luminosity? Angel: The first thing that people should know is that tech companies are realizing that Facebook has become very inefficient in providing them with real opportunities to connect with their fans and potential clients. There are several reasons for this, but I’ll just mention a few: There’s no sure way to target your messaging on Facebook, as the categories are broad and you never really know who your fans really are. Another obstacle is that the average PC gamer/tech enthusiast has liked about 400 tech pages, all producing daily content, and that’s a lot of competition for attention. Finally, Facebook has hijacked the News Feed with intrusive ads and sponsored posts, and most users are growing discontent with the amount of nonsense they need to filter through to get to the content they really want to see. Then there’s Gaming Tribe, a clean and targeted network that wants to enhance the connection between tech companies and fans in an environment that is devoid of the artifices of spam ads, and is built around the idea that this closeness engenders a win-win relationship for both companies and fans. We are unapologetic about designing Gaming Tribe to appeal mostly to PC gamers and PC tech enthusiasts, and our PC giveaways also appeal mostly to this large demographic. So tech companies do not have to do any special targeting on their posts, as every Gaming Tribe member is truly a potential fan and a possible customer. Furthermore, we are by far the most engaged management team in social media, as we did not just ask others to make Gaming Tribe their home, we have done so ourselves. So when we speak to companies about the ethos and nature of our community, we do so with authority and understanding, based on firsthand knowledge and not on some analytical graph. The process of becoming a Gaming Tribe sponsor takes a long time, as we have to interact with the management to understand their goals and make sure that their products are top notch. For example, we started our dialogue with the Cyonic management team over a year ago, and only when both (them and us) were absolutely sure that this relationship was a total fit we entered into a long-term agreement, that will see them as a top sponsor of our community through 2017! This is the case for every single sponsor on our current list, and it personally gives me the certainty that I can recommend their products and services to our members with absolute confidence and certainty. Also I know that issues our members may encounter with a product or service are prioritized at the sponsor companies, if they know they are Gaming Tribe members. Alex: We have seen some members of the community unhappy with a product or service of a sponsor, sometimes even aggressively so. What is your take on this? If such posts follow the posting policy of Gaming Tribe, should such posts be censored or removed? Angel: I actually like when in rare occasions a Gaming Tribe member openly expresses their disappointment with a sponsor product, as that gives the company an opportunity to make it right and it gives us all a perspective that could be vital in a future purchase.

14

july 2015 Now here’s the other part, most people are used to being ignored by companies in large impersonal networks, and think that they need to elevate the rhetoric to offensive levels to get attention. We do not condone this approach when directed to a sponsor, a community member or even to us, and in a couple of cases its lead to a network ban, as some people anchor themselves into a permanent war pattern. Mutual respect is the most important tenant of the Gaming Tribe global community, and no one has to lower himself or herself to the low levels of profanity, name-calling, finger-pointing or general obnoxiousness to get attention. They just need to make a rational and honest point, and we will support them. In fact, I’ve called our sponsors on a few occasions, on behalf of a member that encountered a problem, and was met with instant action as they were a Gaming Tribe member. Alex: Very good; this might answer a lot of answers from the GTribers! Now, you have stated you are an avid gamer yourself. What genres/game you like to play? And most importantly, Bulbasaur, Squirtle or Charmander!? Angel: Haha! I’m no a Pokémon fan so I’m not sure which one is best, although I’ve heard that Bulbasaur due to its quick growing potential, but that is not an expert opinion. I am the quintessential FPS gamer, and enjoy the perfect timing, quick reflexes and precise hand-eye coordination that FPS games demand. I actually think that FPS gaming has enhanced my driving skills, as I’m a much better driver now than I was before FPS gaming. Unfortunately my time for gaming is severely impaired by my responsibilities at Mass Luminosity and Gaming Tribe, and I get to play games well after everyone else as the games sit on my Steam account for a long time. For example, I just recently played Dishonored, although I really enjoyed it, lots of cool moves you can make to annihilate the enemies. My favorite FPS to date is Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Alex: I think it’s time to wrap this up, but I really hope you can answer this next one; are you human? A robot? An AI? Do you plan to dominate the human population? What ARE you Angel Munoz?? Angel: I guess we should explain that question for those who are unfamiliar with the lore. About a year ago a humorous rumor started spreading among the community volunteers and some active members of the Gaming Tribe community, that I was actually an AI and not really a human being. I read a few interesting hypothesis in favor of the AI theory, using some pretty convincing arguments, including the fact that some members would see me online all of the time (day or night) interacting with others, and that my logical responses seemed like the result of a computer program and not human-like. The reality is that I have become a bit of hybrid, as I’ve embraced technology in my daily life in ways that astonish most people. I am always connected to the Internet and truly believe that it’s one of humanity’s best inventions, as it melts barriers and reduces distances at the speed of light. My passion for technology reflects even in my residence, as my home is almost completely run by computers [including lighting, power requirements, climate control, security and entertainment] with minimum human intervention. Furthermore, I truly love my symbiotic relationship with all of my PCs and treat them with the utmost care and respect. I dare dream of a time in the near future, where creating the Angel A.I. could be a reality, so that “I” could continue to help guide this wonderful global community for many generations to come. Nothing would be more thrilling to me. Did I answer that question? I guess not really

FEATURED ARTICLE

GAMIN EVOLUTION

E

volution.. This word brings an unlimited number of visions or thoughts regarding this. It’s because of evolution we are standing right here and you are able to read the world’s greatest gaming magazine. Evolution has enabled us do many wondrous things and not necessarily only technology wise. Even now, we are in the process of evolving into an even greater species; it’s not far now that we will be able to unleash our true power and become the Ultimate Warrior, Super Saiy...

Sorry about that, looks like I got carried away. But at any rate, what IS evolution? A quick search in Google and Wikipedia shows up this: Evolution is change in heritable traits of biological populations over successive generations. And that is science. However, I am not here to talk to you regarding species’ evolution; I will leave this to the true professionals. What AM I here to talk to you about? I am sure you noticed by now that this issue’s TRIBIC is named TRIBIC. At first, I just wanted to leave it as that and only show how we upgraded the magazine itself, mainly the visual aspect of it. However, I started thinking more deeply about it and decided to make an article dedicated to the evolution of gaming, its history and its future.

GAMING HISTORY: A FEW WORDS I won’t stay long in this topic; however, I need to say that video gaming goes as far back as to 1958, and the first recorded creator was William Higinbotham; some might even recognize him as the creator of the first atomic bomb. What he made called it ‘Tennis for Two’. ‘Tennis for Two’ was first introduced on October 18, 1958, at one of the Lab’s annual visitors’ days. Two people played the electronic tennis game with separate controllers that connected to an analog computer and used an oscilloscope for a screen. That is the first recorded video game! This is quite far from what we are used to, but back in the day, I imagine watching dots hitting other dots that you actually had control of must have been a huge deal! But even with ‘Tennis’, the game wasn’t completely interactive; you just controlled a dot, there was no getting back to you. That interaction started coming to play in 1961 who created Spacewar, the first game ever to run on a computer (the size of a small cottage, but still!) Console gaming, as in the concept of being able to play games on your television (because very few could afford a PC, or even have the space for it. Rumors say that people started working on NASA because they could use the PCs on their off time to play games. It’s not confirmed) didn’t start coming into papers until late 1966. And that only became a reality in 1972, when Atari was founded. Keep in mind that all these years we are still talking about dots and in the case of Atari, some pixels! Fast-forward to 1980, when the first 3-D game was created, Battlezone! We are now entering the golden age of Arcade Centers, where many great games had appeared, from Pac-Man to Dragon’s Lair and then we rush headstrong to 16-bit console systems, like SNES! What you need to realize is that currently we are at year 1991, 33 years AFTER the release of the first ever video game and we are still talking about dots and pixels, albeit some better looking ones! I could go on and on with gaming history, but I will leave that for a future issue. Now let’s talk about EVOLUTION! Clearly, even though what has been mentioned is still in the early stages of this wonderful art, we can still see heaps of advancement. Just think: from a oscilloscope we went to our own TV with our own controllers! And if things got tough, we could always escape in our handheld console systems, like the all-time classic Game Boy.

THE GRAND RUSH TO TODAY Up until then, we would see small advancements every year; small and steady. However, ever since the release of the Playstation console, we started seeing HUGE leaps in gaming. We saw our characters in a true 3-D environment and soon our characters could move in all of them instead of a simple horizontally movement. I still remember very vividly when I first played Ray-Man how free I felt and then I switched to Grand Turismo, a game I still remember (and dread that final stage) fondly. The pinnacle of the Playstation for me has to be Metal Gear Solid, where Hideo Kojima really pushed the console to its absolute limits; even Final Fantasy games hadn’t reached the level where Metal Gear was running at when it came to frames or graphical details, or FMVs, as they were called back then. For me, the grand rush to perfection and going to the next level started with the sixth generation of gaming consoles, meaning the PS2, X-Box, GameCube and Dreamcast. All these consoles, with PS2 and X-Box at the lead, started making more and more detailed games, more deep in their stories, better looking in their graphics, more complex gameplays. While striving to make things so much better for the audience is great and encouraged, soon we started to realize that in some games, only one core element would get the most work, leaving the others to be desired; few kept their quality as high as possible. Especially with the

16

release of Steam, we came in contact with hundreds of games that were lacking something, or had an absolute advantage over all other similar genres. (Steam released in 2002/2003, we started seeing a number of gaming companies and/or developers joining Steam around 2005)

EVOLUTION IS TO ADAPT. TO ADAPT IS TO EVOLVE I am a firm believer of the above statement. Species, all species, evolve in order to adapt to their environment. For technology and more specifically for gaming, which this article is all about, it’s truer than true. Games could only evolve however in their technical elements; just a look in the past decade can more or less confirm this. Nowadays though, it’s fair to say that gaming has reached new levels of height in accessibility, variety and quality. This happened because of the gamers, all gamers, from all source of gaming media; PC, consoles, handheld consoles, mobile, VR gaming. Let’s take a look at accessibility in gaming; how did that evolve from ages past? Back when gaming first launched that took place in a screen, really only a handful could play. Even at the 80s or 90s, when some people consider those years the golden years for gaming, due to many of the now known and most mainstream games and characters were released: Super Mario, Sonic, The Legend of Zelda, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, Metroid, Pocket Monsters (Pokemon), Resident Evil, Sid Meier’s Civilization, Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Tetris, Castlevania, Commando, Street Fighter and the list goes on and on. However, especially at the 80s, not many could afford having an arcade system or later on a console in their home, leaving them unable to play all those pre mentioned games. As time went on however, the prices went down, you could see actual arcade centers where you could go and play these games, you started seeing a lot of different platforms where you could play these games. Nowadays, you can literally play games EVERYWHERE! Apart from PC and consoles, you could play on social media sites like Facebook, or in the Internet in general regarding some titles, from your table or mobile phone. The prices have gone down a lot and you can buy any platform with relative ease; even if we are talking about a very old arcade system! Which brings us to variety; not only there is variety in the media you choose to play your games, there is a HUGE collection of games, even in the same genre! For the gamer especially this is really important, as variety brings competition to the companies

18

selling the same thing; they will always try to outdo their opponents and bring their A-game into making their titles! The areas that they were lacking a few years back, they were working hard to take it two levels higher! Some developers and companies set the bar so high that they set new standards for these games! Such great examples are Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Bastion, Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, Fable, Timesplitters and once again, the list goes on. You could even say that they redefined gaming! Which brings us lastly to quality. No doubt since you are a GTriber, the world’s greatest reader, you noticed that all three core elements are tied closely to each other; each of them fills the spots of the others and vice versa. Quality comes to seal the deal. Overall, quality is not set or the same for each individual: someone that considers the game’s graphics to be dull and boring, another might find that this specific type of artwork feels right at home with that kind of game they are playing. However, quality graphics is not about preferences. It’s all about how much detail has gone into it in order to bring the game’s world to life. For example one of my favorite games ever is Bastion. The graphics to Bastion are definitely not of the highest quality you can find in this type of genre, especially in the RPG world, even in the platform one! However, it’s tied very closely to the world their developers have created and alongside all other elements of the game bring the best of Bastion: voice acting and soundtrack, story and gameplay. All these if work together, they can overcome a disadvantage and bring out a masterpiece. So while preferences in quality is up to the person, the work behind each game and its elements should always be there present: you NEED to be able to tell that the developer put everything into his creations. At this point I want to add one more thing: expertise. While there are hundreds, or even thousands of different games in the same genre, there is no doubt that some rise higher than others. This could be for a matter of reasons, the most common one is for the game is to lack something that is already mentioned. There is however one specific reason that I believe needs to be shared with you: even if the overall quality of the game is great and is accessible by a lot of people, variety can truly be a pain in the neck; there are games that fall first in your hand and take the spot of an equally good game. I truly believe that there is no company out there that wants its game not to sell, so they bring out their best effort in order to make something stunning or greater! However what happens when there are 50 more titles in the same genre as you? What happens where there are 10 different companies that focus on the same targeting audience? A bit of marketing lesson here! Said company has to differentiate itself from others, which brings expertise to play! For example, some believe that the best horror games are the likes of Resident Evil and Silent Hill. While these are absolutely great titles, I think they are lacking in the scary part a bit: sure they are jumpy, but other than that, I personally don’t feel that much hopeless and scared. However, when I play the likes of Fatal Frame or Amnesia: The Dark Descent I honestly fear for everything, every sound is horrifying to hear and I pray that I am safe beyond that corner. Now, it’s not that Silent Hill fails to deliver! None at all actually! However, both that and Amnesia are of the same genre, but they managed to differentiate from each other! They brought out -always in the same genre- a different type of gameplay or graphical differences, which in turn targeted a DIFFERENT target audience in the SAME genre target audience! To evolve is to adapt and to adapt is to evolve!

STAND BY. EVOLUTION. START. So far I have mentioned pretty much every type of gaming media and platform except for one: Virtual Reality Gaming or VR for short. This I believe is the next stage of evolution for us gamers; so far we have gone from staring really close to our television or playing at a arcade coin system to experiencing 4k gaming in our really big monitor(s)! We have seen leaps in all technical elements of all games, like graphics and soundtrack as well as well other core elements like the story and character development. We have in our procession extremely high quality headsets in order not miss a single rain drop. Our mouse is sensitive enough, depending on our needs and our keyboard has enough extra macro keys or customization in order to get us through each level of our game. But we have never, truly get engrossed INSIDE the game we love; we have never been inside our game, see the game from the character’s and not the player’s eyes. Sure, there is Occult Rift you might say; however we only tapped the unlimited potential of VR Gaming. With Oculus, although we reach new heights in quality, allowing us to enjoy our hobby to a greater extent, there is still some connection that needs to be always there in the “real” world. You move and act with joysticks in Oculus. So you need to be aware of your hands. So you can’t give your 100% to your game. One of the reasons Sword Art Online is so popular is because of this: the players are truly inside their game and live and breathe that world. Of course, in order to reach that level we are still quite a few years in need; however, technology constantly advances, as we evolve through it. We always strive to reach new heights so there is no doubt in my mind that we will come a day when we will be able to completely forget our problems, our world and just be inside the world WE choose to live in! Of course, there are quite a few drawbacks in something like this, but the focus of this article is the evolution of gaming, not what lies beyond that. This brings us to an end for this month’s featured Code Article. Hope you enjoyed it and found it informative! See you next issue!

game Review Hatred Developer: Destructive Creations Platform: PC

Let’s be blunt here; Hatred plays on the fact that its content matter is in a seriously bad taste to say the least and uses that as a cheap marketing ploy to sell itself to you – the discerning public. Unless you are already a crazed psychopath though, it will not make you want to go out and slaughter innocents. Possibly. Maybe. Don’t hold me on that. But what is Hatred? Well, it’s an old school isometric shooter where you (the antagonist) feel that humanity is past its expiration date and needs to be thrown in the trash. This may be by a bullet to the chest or five to the head amongst a few other unsavoury deaths. Also, when you injure somebody you get the option to execute them as you approach while they try to crawl away, begging for their lives. You only have one life in each level until you get to these; therefore they become a necessity later on when things get more difficult. It’s a repetitive effort for each area with different, though fairly well designed, graphics to spice up each part of the game. At times vehicles are available for a bit of hit and run but driving them feels more like a nineties coin-op game since they seem to have their own laws of physics separate from the rest of the game. Ramming them through a living room wall or shop front is fun though!

The game is split into neighbourhoods full of people to mow down in a hail of gunfire and buildings to destroy, usually with the same hail of gunfire if a stray bullet hits one of the many gas canisters that the populace seem to leave lying around willy-nilly. Health and Safety is definitely not the strong point of the denizens of Hatred but the physics (or lack of them) are a joy to witness because most objects can be damaged or demolished in a very satisfying manner. Once your quota of kills has been reached in each area, you have to fight off a sudden onslaught of police and/or soldiers and then try to leave the area via a subscribed route. There are also side missions in each area where you once again have to kill or cause some mayhem in order to get a respawn point.

The choice of weapons in the game is a tad limited but they do their jobs well along with a small selection of explosives to

aid in the wanton destruction. Shooting is simply a matter of using the mouse to move your on-screen sights in the direction you want before you fire and using the keyboard to move (a twin stick controller can also be used) as you run, dive, duck and throw yourself through windows to the horror of your fleeing victims. The voice acting is decent for the main part with some over the top voiceover fitting well with the overall feel of the game. The sound effects on the other hand are adequate at best with non-script music or some things just don’t make a sound or you can hear voices coming from the wrong direction when somebody is screaming at you. Perhaps little things to gripe about but they are there nonetheless. On the whole, Hatred is not a bad game, but neither is it a particularly good one. It looks nice (if a bit muted in the colour department) and plays much better than it did on the day of release. If you are looking for a bit of mindless mayhem and are not too concerned about the lack of any political correctness then you could do much worse; just don’t expect anything ground-breaking.

Dragon Ball Super

Let’s be honest here; it’s Dragon Ball. It’s Toriyama signed, directed and drawn. Mainly to nostalgia reasons and also if I dare say something bad about this I will get run over by thousands of angry fans, I can’t really say much about this show. It’s still early anyways, and Super will DEFINITELY run for a few months at least. I won’t spoil much here, but it looks like we will get a re-run of the previous movie with Beerus (albeit a long, long one) I am sincerely hoping they go past that so we can see the full capabilities of Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan or even go HIGHER than that! Think of Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Super 2! OR EVEN HIGHER! Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Extreme Super 3! But they HAVE to think better names than they have come up with. It’s getting ridiculous to say the least..

Verdict: Overall it’s a must watch for everybody, especially for Dragon Ball fans. One thing that kinda puts me down is once more, we will have to wait a LOT before anything happens in the show. Remember Dragon Ball Z? From what we have seen, the same story advancement will occur in Super making 5 minutes of said time in the show, approximately 10 episodes real time. You do the math.

Gate

Joukamachi no Dandelion

Plot: Itami Yoji is a 33 year old otaku. He is also a member of the Japanese Special Defense Forces. Yoji’s reason of working is to support his hobby; nothing else. One day, a portal, a gate appeared in Ginza of Tokyo, where a horde of monsters and soldiers appeared to wreak havoc in the city. Yoji quickly acted and helped rescue hundreds of citizens, while protecting them from any comers. For that, he promoted to lieutenant. The Japan Prime Minister orders a special JSDF squad to go over that gate and find out about that strange other world and either negotiate or simply, destroy the opposing forces. Yuji is selected to be one of the members joining and is sent to that 2015 otherjuly world, where elves and dragons are real.

Plot: The concept is actually very interesting: the Sakurada family are royalty. The father of this huge family (the parents plus 9 children) is the King. It’s known from ancient times that the King can do whatever he wants. So Sakurada Soichiro, the King, decides this: have a popularity contest among ALL of his children and whoever becomes the King (even the girls! cause who cares about logic!) The story revolves around Sakurada Akane, the fourth eldest child and third eldest daughter, who is extremely shy! To make matters worse, all of the siblings are CONSTANTLY being recorded on TV! So basically, in order to win you have to appeal to the crowd and have them elect you. To top it all off, all siblings have some sorts of Super Power!

SUMMER TIME

Verdict: Well.. It’s obvious that this show counteracts Charlotte that is mentioned previously. To begin with, each episode has 2 short stories in it; so basically the show doesn’t have a constant storyline flowing in, but rather advances slowly showing different aspects every time. The manga is actually a four-panel comic, rather famous in Japan, so it was to be expected. Also, by having a short story featuring one of the siblings every time is definitely keeping up the interest. However, at the same time people who are not used or just don’t four-panel like manga they will quickly get bored. Joukamachi no Dandelion however actually references and advances the story from the short ones, somehow balancing things. To top things off, each sibling has a different kind of super power: the shy Akane for example can manipulate the gravity of herself and everyone she touches. Meaning, she can also fly! Another daughter, the second eldest one Sakurada Kanade’s ability is to create objects.. seemingly out of nothing! However, she has to pay for the materials needed to create said item, so that’s a bummer. (imagine the ability to create duplicates of Angel Munoz AIs and have them duke it out, Terminator style!) Expect this anime to be a comedy relief one rather a rich story one, but it’s a nice change with great voice acting and interesting perspectives to otherwise very serious topics!

GREEN PEAS WITH BACON

Verdict: Well, the concept is good and for once we get a badass trained character who just loves anime. Plus, he is a normal human and alongside other similar humans they fight off Freedom style the soldiers of the other world; the soldiers resemble Roman soldiers and stand no chance against the advanced weaponry of the JDSF. I mean, a horse can’t fight a bloody tank! Also, this might be the first time ever where tanks ACTUALLY beat otherworldly characters! The concept is good, but when it comes to the characters, we are starting to lose some; all the other characters except Yoji seem very cliché. Also, the story, especially judging from the opening and various scenes (the ending of episode 2 for example) is heading to a harem-like anime. A dangerous decision, this might be the catalyst of this show. Gate has potential; let’s hope it remains good and get better!

Overlord

Prison School

One of the Big 3 of this Summer (with the exception of Dragon Ball Super, we cannot and will not compare that one with any other for fairness) Plot: The story focuses on a very popular genre of anime lately, the likes of Sword Art Online. If you ask me however, it’s more like the Hack series than that, let’s not forget our roots people! So, the DMMO-RPG thing is real and there is an extremely popular game which is also an extremely free game; anyone can make whatever they want inside the world of Yggdrasil, the game in question. Our protagonist, Momonga, together with other players have created a guild called Ains Ooal Gown; presumably an extremely powerful guild, since they have a castle, with MANY floors and a huge number of Guardians to protect the floors (quite possibly the Guardians can be considered as Raid Bosses) However, after a long while the server are to shut down; Momonga decides to stay until the end but finds out that he is somehow trapped inside the game! (ok, kinda like Sword Art Online, I admit) Not only that, the NPCs now have their own mind and can talk, move and think freely. Momonga perplexed by all this decides to investigate all this but soon is starting to focus on one thing: dominate the world. All of his Guardians are loyal to him, he is a max level character, much more powerful than all other citizens of this world (even the Guardians admit to that as they obey him without question) and more than anything, the other world has nothing to offer him. So world domination it is!

Plot: Hachimitsu Academy, one of the strictest girls academies in Tokyo, has decided to admit boys into their system. Kiyoshi Fujino is one of these new boys, but he discovers to his shock that he and his four friends—Takehito “Gakuto” Morokuzu, Shingo Wakamoto, Jouji “Joe” Nezu, and Reiji “Andre” Andou—are the only male students among 1,000 girls. Even worse are the draconian laws that are still in place, which punishes even the most minor infractions with a stay in the school’s prison. A series of perverted accidents causes the five boys to be “arrested” and receive an ultimatum: either stay a month in the prison or be expelled.

Verdict: Fnally, we get to see something vastly different than Sword Art Online, Log Horizon and Hack. Overlord borrows many aspects of all pre-mentioned games but utilizes them in a different manner. To begin with, Momonga is a lich; he is a bloody skeleton. Plus, he is a mage. Plus, he has no problem (he wonders at that though) killing and seeing blood and burning and hacking and pretty much be a lich. Finally, he doesn’t care about EXP, honor, loot or anything of the sorts. He wants to dominate the freaking world! To top it all off, he actually knows nothing of the new world that is around him, since it so drastically changed. So instead of charging off and start killing people and taking heads, he strategically advances by increasing his knowledge and travel as an adventurer (what NPCs call the players) A really great anime with a very interesting concept! Must watch for everybody!

The above is copied from Wikipedia, I will be honest. Not because I was too lazy, but because I lacked the words to actually describe this one! Basically it’s a gag anime, but it’s VERY mature! Plus we are talking about some EXTREMELY masochistic and sadist characters here! The jokes are extremely (this word will appear a lot) perverted and NOT recommended to anyone below 18 and absolutely forbidden to anyone under 16. It’s not pornographic (to the extreme sense) but some of the weirdest fetishes of Japan are mentioned and shown. However, once you get past the awkwardness of these things, (I have long since I casted away that shell, now I am a being that loves anime for what they are. Viva la Japan!) the show is actually really funny! Although the jokes are perverted, it’s almost guaranteed that you will laugh, since the artists have played it extremely well and use different designs at specific moments, maximizing the EXTREMELY good voice acting. I am not kidding, although you might not notice, it’s because of this: it’s absolutely bloody awesome acting! Some of the veterans will realize what I am talking about. All in all, I would say watch it, but at your own discretion. Hint: lots of boobies! But not in the usual fanservice way! In an EXTREMELY nice way ;)

Gangsta Which brings us down to the last show of this Anime Corner, one of the Big 3 of Summer Anime 2015 and a very close call between deciding which show is best for this season. Gangsta might well aim for the top 2015 anime, although it’s still early to hold such rankings! Let’s have a look at the:

SUMMER TIME

Plot: The story revolves around “Handymen”, who take jobs from the local police force to fight of mafia mobs or take on dangers that the police itself can’t handle. The two main protagonists are Arcangelo Yorick, a man over his 30s who wears a patch over his left eye and is also a gigolo. The other one, Nicolas Brown is a Twilight: a man -and quite possibly a woman too- dosed with a drug, giving them superhuman abilities. Nicolas, or Nic for short, is deaf and mainly communicates with sign language, but is often seen being able to read lips. Nic wears dog tags in his neck, but there are quite different from normal dog tags; instead of simply showing the wearer’s identity, they also have a letter and a number inscribed on them. Supposedly, all Twilight folk have similar dog tags, but Nic is shown to be one of the most powerful ones. Together the pair takes dangerous and very bloody july 2015 jobs and both seem rather used to this. Nic is extremely agile and powerful, easily overpowering any normal human; even fellow Twilight stand little chance against him. In a fight against one, he literally gave himself a handicap for over 3 minutes in order to enjoy himself more, making him kind of a battle maniac.

DISCWORLD 2 Presumed missing/mortality bites. (perfect entertainment) 1996:psygnosis (pc) 1997:psygnosis (playstation) 1997:Sega(sega saturn)(europe only) Back in the days while I was still at school I hated reading; sure i had played some games like the Zork trilogy (Tribic Issue 1) but those were short bouts of text and after all ....a game. Because of that, I had never heard of the Discworld series or its creator Terry Pratchett, something I made it up later by reading a lot of his books. Discworld 2 has 2 titles presumed missing and mortality bites in north america, and was made by Perfect entertainment, who also made the amazingly fun(for the time) games for the publisher psygnosis, titled Destruction Derby and Discworld 2. Discworld 2 is a point and click adventure that borrows heavily from two of Terry Prachett’s books, namely Reaper Man and Moving Pictures. In Discworld 2 players take up once again the controls over the world’s most inept wizard ever ,Rincewind, who is voiced to near perfection by Eric Idle from Monty Python Fame.

In Discworld 2 Death, a guy in a black cloak with a scythe, has gone on a hiatus, and thus there is nobody to detach the souls from the body , leaving the city of ank Morpork in a bit of trouble with the recently deceased. And as the game begins with the funeral of a wizard, who know the time they will die, goes wrong and the inept wizards are left with a recently deceased wizard who is rather ticked off Death did not meet his appointment, makes the archchancellor to have Rincewind summon Death, as they are not yet aware Death has taken a vacation. Luckily the game does not revolve around Rincewind trying to gather the things to summon Death and thus make everything right.Oh no the game’s story goes “full Prachett Mode” and takes twists and turns after Death has been summoned, even leading to the assassination of Death himself! Rincewind takes up the robes of Death to make things go back to normal . And Death is being made a movie star! If this sounds all confusing to you , then let me elaborate on the story a bit more. The story: As said before the story revolves around Rincewind and Death, but features other well known characters from the Discworld series like the archchancellor, the death of rats, Albert death’s butler, and the Librarian.

Like I said Rincewind is the most inept Wizard in the discworld , and thats a really big feat to pull off as in the stories most wizards are inept in using magic.

28

The story starts with Windle Poons, a wizard that is about to die and have his funeral, where a multitude of foods is served and the wizards there talk amongst them self with the still alive Windle Poons in a coffin, also partaking in the discussions that wizards tend to have. When the time of his death has come and his soul is ready to leave his body to be taken by death to the eternal plains, Poons soul seems to be still trapped inside his body, This is not the first event of this happening in the city of Ank Morpork, but the first one the rather selfish and self important wizards take notice and offence in, especialy Widdle Poons.

july 2015 It is this event that makes the archchancellor decide to call over Rincewind, the world’s most inept wizard to collect the means to summon Death and ask him what is wrong, because Rincewind has a way of getting things done. After Rincewind has collected the means to summon death and also have summoned him, Death tells you he has taken a vacation. This makes the archchancellor to summon Rincewind once more to go find Death and convince him to get of his ass and do his job. After you manage to do just that, Death tells you he feels a little unwanted and wants people to need him, to be popular. And what better way to become popular then being in the movies... So you set out to collect the things needed for a movie, like props, a pretty actress and some other novelties to make Death a star. After completing this the story is still not over, far from it, as Death likes his new Status and adoration and decides to stop being Death and become a movie star, forcing Rincewind having to take up the robes of Death as he is the one responsible who made Death no longer wanting to do his job. Albert, the butler of death, does not like this one bit and sends you off on a series of tests to prove your worth in filling in for Death.

The graphics: This game is 19 years old and yes it shows, but not as bad as the other two Discworld games in the series, Discworld (1995) and Discworld Noir(1999). The game is in cartoon style , and feels very much like a Saturday morning cartoon, as you can see in the images provided. The game shows its age is by the jagged lines and the still images on which the game is shown. But when I look at games that are being released in the indie world now all i can say is “this game looks really modern”! Sure not all the graphics aged as well and there can be a little ghosting seen (ghosting is when you see frame movements) this is not that annoying. The drawing style is really great work and looks really good , the silly world of the Discworld is perfectly captured by the antics you get in on your quests to do the various parts of the story that takes you across parts of the discworld that existed then. The music/sound: Eric Idle is great as Rincewind and brinks a snarkyness to this otherwise inept almost quite useless wizard. The music also changes according to where you are and really captures the different part of the city of Ank Morpork and the Discworld.. I cannot say much; the players needs to see it for himself in order to understand! The gameplay:

As Death gets assassinated while you are doing this ,you set out to save Death from well....Death himself! After you manage to do this Death decides to return to his duties. All this leads up to the showing of Death’s second movie, once again altered by Rincewind for it to be a success. Making the Elf Queen step from the screen and kidnap the librarian ( as he is the least inept wizard in the world, after being rather inept and having turned himself in a monkey) Its up to you again to stop the Ef Queen and set everything straight for the last time. As you can see there is a lot to the overall story of this game, and it is very Prachett in its ways, and here comes my first gripe with the game, No matter how much fun the game is, and it really is a ton of fun, you will not like the game if you do not like the Discworld series, or are not a particular fan of British humor.

Here the game really shows it’s age. Its not that the gameplay is bad, nor is it simple, but it is true 90’s point and click, simplistic in the set up, but with some weird hoops you have to jump through to solve the many puzzles in the game, just like a lot of games did in the 90’s to stretch the gameplay time. Something Discworld does not really need as the story is long enough as it is, especialy on the first play through . One puzzle that still manages to make me struggle was one where you have to get a vampire sobered up. I had to get cereal , mouse blood, coffee, a vampires tooth and mix them together to get the guy sober enough to help me on my way, this puzzle makes perfect sense in the Discworld setting , but you have to get your head around that before the puzzles start to become logical. Don’t get me wrong the puzzles can make perfect sense even in our world but the way you have to solve the puzzles can feel a bit out of place. Then there is the reading, the reading really helps with the story but there is just a lot of it, notes, lists and books are all needed to be read to progress on puzzles can keep a person from playing through the game as they may not like to read books as a pass time. Even back in the 90s when there were a lot of point and click adventures that were heavy on the reading , Discworld 2 was taking a high number on those c

harts, something that some people complained a lot about, although if you manage to get past the wall of text, this Old but Gold featured game is really fun! Verdict: I will once again break the aspects down and score them accordingly from 1G as being rather abysmal to 5G as being close to perfect. Story: 4G’s The story is a lot of fun, quirky and true Prachett in it’s setup with weird and wacky things to see and explore. You dont even have to know the books of the series to be able to enjoy the game, although the game will fare better if you are a Prachett fan, I took one G off of the rating because of this. What sets the game as a solid 4G is the 4th wall breaking in certain parts of the game, like Rincewind telling the librarian what they are going to do is perfectly safe as it is the start of the game and they wont kill them there. The british humour has to be your thing and if it is it’s a hoot. Graphics: 5G’s This is where the game shines the most and brightest, the game’s graphics aged really well, and even the jagged lines of the characters and objects that are interactable are not that bad. And seeing the way a lot of games nowadays, especialy in the indie world, manage to look worse makes me forgive the game’s background to be a little less well aged and make me give it one G extra.

Replayability: 4G’s The game scores a little higher here then i would have scored a game of this genre, as most point and click adventures tend to be the most fun the first time through. Because of the stellar story and the audio, this is one of those games that when you want to have a trully funny time, will make reinstall it and play it again; the world’s logic will probably be something you have to grasp again but when you do ,a second or even third time playing it will leave you with more an ideal situation to click on everything you can see, just to see if you missed something the other times you played it, this is something that not many point and click games of that era had and to see this game do just that elevated it to that 4th G. Originality: 3G’s The game is original in that there are not that many games based on Prachett’s work , but for the rest the game is just another point and click adventure from the era in gaming when this was a very profitable genre to dabble in. Even the quirky style of jokes have been seen before in the king’s quest series, but then with a healthy dose of Discworld fun and elevated the game to 3G’s instead of just 2, a scoring that pains me a lot but I have to be objectional here! Hence the Game scores a very nice 4G’s

Gameplay/difficulty: 4G’s This is where the age shows, The reading kept it from being 5G’s and made it a 4, The puzzles with their own logical logic you have to wrap your mind around also keeps it from reaching that 5th G. What keeps the game out of a 3G is the simplicity of the interface, it is easy to see what to interact with, even if it doesnt help you advance in the story, but instead gives you a little joke or a little fourth wall break and even the ocasional (dated) pop culture reference. The game is easy and challenging if you have not wrapped your mind fully around the logics of the world created by Terry Prachett, and this is why the game is more fun to his fans than others.

Final thoughts: Even though the game is far from perfect, and at times a little dated , Discworld 2 is a great game to play. There is one MAYOR drawback, the game is not playable on systems above windows XP, exept when using Dosbox or ScummVM. I played it without audio on dosbox so the audio I speak off was seen in a youtube video; Although I do not know how to work the ScummVM (yet) i was told by people to play it on there as the audio works on it there. The game was great to play again, and showed me the brilliance that is Terry Prachett in his prime years, dont get me wrong untill his death Prachett wrote amazing books. Unlike the other 2 games in the series of games this game aged the best even though people seemed to like Discworld Noir a little better then this game.

NEWS What TRIBIC wants to ensure is that all GTribers and their games that they are trying to create will always have our support! This is why we will keep in touch with all of the developers/creators so we will bring you ALL updated news and announcements! Last issue, we had a look at the game in development, Tokala, Project Tokala being its codename. Now, let’s have a look at Tokala’s latest news! Project Tokala is a group of people working together to make their dream a reality: create their own RPG game! We interviewed Stephanie Young, the leader of Project Tokala about it last issue and we decided to keep a corner dedicated to this wonderful project. Let’s see the news and announcements for the project this month: •

Project Tokala changed its shift towards an MMORPG game, instead of a single player RPG game.

The official name of Project Tokala will be Realms of Tokala tm. (all right reserved)

Realms of Tokala will be using the latest beta version of Unity Engine!

The game will focus heavily on the single player questlines, in order to make the player to really feel he is making the difference.

ALL dungeons and raids will have a prerequisite storyline for their lore! (you can enter them whenever you want without any conditions prior, except the level)

Realms of Tokala will offer quests, events and world bosses that will require a group to defeat, thus promoting the interactivity with other players.

PvP will take a place in Realms of Tokala, with most of the greatest and epic battles taking place at max level; there will be PvP oriented quests, so PvPers can try something different than the usual battleground fighting. PvP quests won’t be as simple as “kill x number of players!”

• Realms of Tokala will feature a Talent Point System, which will loosely be based on Skyrim’s Skill System. What we know is that everything in RoT will have a hidden EXP bar, from classes and professions to Reputation; not much else was given available, but we were told that the Talent Point System will be crucial to the game, so the developers want it to be unique, fun but challenging at the same time.

3rd TRIBIC PC Configurations

y

buy - be s t

For this issue of TRIBIC’s awesome PC configurations we have prepared a new format. This time we will have two bases in hardware, two skeletons so to say, one for Intel and one for AMD. Skeletons we said? Yep, there will be two “bases” consisting of a motherboard (one Intel one AMD), 8 GB of ddr3 RAM and a hard drive. The other components will be listed to choose from in the category of extra low budget, affordable and the best that can fit the platform. Keep in mind, the motherboards certainly won’t be ultra high end eyes dropping models since they’re chosen to be able to fit both the low budget and the affordable (for some mid-range, for others maybe high-end) parts so there won’t be a focus on overclocking, tweaking etc.

First we have the AMD platform. For the motherboard, the Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P was chosen. It’s an AM3+ board cheaper than 80$ USD on most markets; it’s got everything most people need and it supports from the old AM3 CPU-s to the latest FX 8-cores (excluding the FX 9000 series). With the RAM we will go with the Kingston HyperX Fury Black 1866 MHz DDR3, a single 8 GB stick. The RAM should come at below 80$ too. For the Hard Drive, a mechanical Toshiba DT01ACA100 1000GB drive has been chosen. It offers a good price/performance ratio and costs about 60$. Now that we have the base/skeleton, let’s see the recommended parts:

Second comes the Intel platform. The choice of the motherboard falls on the AsRock Z97 Anniversary. It costs about 90$. With the ram, we’ll go with the same Kingston Fury as in the AMD build; 80$. And we’ll use the same HDD as in the AMD build too. 60$ Now that we have the base/skeleton, let’s see the recommended parts:

It should be noted that one can combine the graphic cards independently of building an AMD based or Intel based system. Going from the weakest/cheapest to the strongest/most expensive – R7 360, R7 370, R9 380, R9 390, R9 Fury. The R9 cards need more than 500W of good quality power, especially the R9 390 and Fury. For nVidia cards; low budget – GTX 750 Ti, mid budget GTX 960, “best” GTX 980. Additional notes: feel free to add more of the same RAM if you need more memory in your system, more (larger) hard drives, a case that better suits your needs etc. Recommended Windows versions: Windows 8.1 x64 or Windows 10 x64. And for the end, one combination we like: Intel i5 4460, Asrock Z97 Anniversary, 8GB HyperX Fury, AMD Radeon R9 380 4GB, Fractal Design Edison M 550W, Fractal Design Define R5, Samsung 850 Evo 250GB, Toshiba 1000GB, Windows 10. Looks great, runs most games on ultra-high 1080p.
