Writer, storyteller and radio host Garrison Keillor performs his one-man show at Severance Hall, and Philadanco, the Philadelphia dance sensation, performs at the Ohio Theatre. Perennial favorites return, including The Song is You!, hosted by Bill Rudman, and the Piano Recital Series, hailed by The Plain Dealer as “the prime keyboard destination in Northeast Ohio.”

Throughout the season students will interact with visiting local and national artists through lectures, master classes and workshops. Tri-C Creative Arts students who are pursuing careers in the arts and entertainment industry will benefit from access to professional artists in their respective fields. Additionally, artists will create work that reflects our world in a unique way and highlights contemporary issues and current events, connecting the classroom and curriculum. To that end, we are introducing a year-long campus arts integration program, Project Gilgamesh. Bringing faculty, students, arts institutions, community and visiting artist Daniel Bernard Roumain together to explore the ancient story “The Epic of Gilgamesh,” participants will create artistic responses that resonate with contemporary audiences. These new student and community works-in-progress will be featured in our Black Box series at the Center for Creative Arts, Tri-C Metropolitan campus, with a final performance in October of 2012.

Renowned for bringing audiences to their feet with sonic collages of classical, pop and hip-hop sounds, Daniel Bernard Roumain [DBR] ushers the concert hall and dance club into the theater with the Ohio premiere of “Symphony for the Dance Floor.” Featuring the raw, uncompromising photography of Jonathan Mannion, guest artist Lord Jamar, a former member of Brand Nubian, choreography by Millicent Johnnie, and under the direction of D.J. Mendel, “Symphony” is equally inspired by hip-hop, electronica and symphonic sound. Currently a resident composer at Tri-C, working on a collaborative community project, DBR packed Tri-C’s Black Box Theatre last year when he performed with DJ Scientific.

Minnesota native Garrison Keillor brings his one-man show to Cleveland for a single performance. Keillor revitalized radio in 1974 with his eclectic program “A Prairie Home Companion.” The weekly broadcasts showcase his gifts as a writer, storyteller and performer, garnering an audience of over 4 million listeners per show. Keillor is the author of more than a dozen best-selling books, including “Lake Wobegon Days,” and is a frequent contributor to The New Yorker and Atlantic Monthly. He was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 1994 and honored with the National Humanities Medal in 1999.

Founder and artistic director Joan Myers Brown is famed for her creativity and innovative choreography, blending African American-based styles with ballet, jazz, and modern dance. Boukobza is Professor of Piano and Chair of Piano Studies at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. Among other honors, he received the First Prize of Piano and Chamber Music from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris.
Réach has appeared with numerous orchestras, including Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio-France and NHK Symphony Orchetra Tokyo, among others, He is a professor at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, and at the Superior School of Music in Barcelona.
A graduate of the Umberto Giordano Conservatory of Foggia, Italy, PompaBaldi won the Cleveland International Piano Competition in 1999. He and his wife Emanuela are currently on the faculty of the Cleveland Institute of Music.

As a tribute to the artist Rolling Stone called “one of the greatest songwriters ever,” an eclectic mix of favorite local musicians perform selections from Joni Mitchell’s extensive music catalogue. The legendary Canadian songwriter, singer and painter burst onto the music scene with her debut album in 1968 and has since received nine Grammy Awards, the Billboard Century Award, and was inducted into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. Mitchell has played with the best in the business, including Pat Metheny, Wayne Shorter, Lionel Richie and Graham Nash, among others. The evening will include a pre- and post-performance art exhibition featuring local and Tri-C artists.

the song is you! Celebrating its 10th anniversary, The Song Is You! honors the work of the composers and lyricists who created classic American musicals and the Great American Songbook. The series is conceived and written by Bill Rudman, who hosts the concerts and cabarets with jazz pianist Joe Hunter and musical theater artist Nancy Maier. They are joined by many of Cleveland’s finest singers and instrumentalists. Each performance explores the remarkable words and music that speak to our own lives . . . and creates new memories along the way.

Tri-C JazzFest Cleveland celebrates its 33rd year with a stellar line-up of the best artists in jazz, funk, soul, hiphop and beyond. From the “Debut Series,” spotlighting emerging artists, to “Women in Jazz” and “Jazz for Kids” at the Children’s Museum of Cleveland, JazzFest presents world-class artists for all ages at venues citywide.
The songbook will be recorded in the Fall at the Center for Creative Arts recording arts studios and made available to all students and faculty to download for free to use in classrooms, in creative projects and in performances sponsored by Tri-C Presents. www.projectgilgamesh.com will launch in October.
