In 2020, heralding a progressive partnership within the Cambridgeshire residential property sector, Houghton Homes made a significant investment in Laragh Homes and has provided new funding to help drive forward the major development programme already in place at Laragh.

Meet the Directors

Simon Somerville-Large

With unrivalled knowledge of the Cambridge property market and thirty years’ experience of residential and commercial development, Simon Somerville-Large has successfully directed the development of more than 50 schemes throughout the city and surrounding areas.

Among these high-specification developments are the award-winning parkside properties in central Cambridge, the Manor Farm CLT project at Stretham, luxurious new homes in Storey’s Way, Cambridge, together with The Pastures luxury homes in Harston; another award-winning Cambridgeshire development.

Prior to founding Laragh in 2007, Simon held high-level positions at Wimpey Developments, Shepherd Construction and Camstead Homes. Galvanising his expertise and experience, Simon handpicks specialist teams for each and every project, creating unique design concepts and inspired solutions to deliver beautiful, unique homes that we can be proud of.

Andy Houghton

Director of Laragh Homes, Founder and Managing Director of Houghton Homes Ltd.

Andy has many years’ experience in residential development. From self-building his own home in 1984, Andy has always had a hands-on approach to house building, this is directly employed in ensuring that all aspects of property development, including site selection, planning, design, specification, construction and after sales service, are second to none.

Andy was previously Managing Director of his family firm Simpers Ltd, a well-known local Cambridge company, before moving onto new business ventures in 2016.

Andy and Simon have worked together on various projects in and around Cambridge. At the heart of everything they do is the creation of beautiful homes tailored to the surroundings in great locations, keeping their customers as the central focus.

Hannah Greenhow

Integral to Laragh since 2013, Hannah’s 20-year career includes eight years with Savills development. Her customer-facing role involves key marketing management and taking care of buyer’s requirements.

In charge of Laragh’s finances since 2016, Caroline brings 20 years of experience gained across various business sectors to Laragh. She loves Laragh’s approach to building unique community schemes and being part of a fantastic team.

Our long-standing relationship with Laragh goes back a few years; they successfully delivered a small scale residential conversion and renovation of a historic college property in Cambridge. Having proven themselves to be reliable partners, with a flexible, open approach, we selected them as the development partner for a larger residential scheme on our land. Laragh delivered exactly what had been agreed. We would be very pleased to work with the company again.

Listening to Communities

At Laragh, we take a proactive approach to community engagement, beginning long before our construction team arrives on-site.

Since the residents of the community possess detailed knowledge about the type of housing and amenities needed, we ensure to hold their opinions and ideas in high regard.

During the consultation, our architects and key Laragh staff, including the Managing Director and Development Manager, meet people face-to-face and are always happy to answer any pressing questions.

Feedback from the community shapes our schemes and helps us to produce homes befitting each location. For instance, during the consultation for one of our developments, local residents voiced concerns that new buildings would obstruct their views; we listened and designed the new homes in a way which allowed everyone to keep their beautiful countryside outlooks.

Being personable and responsive is what makes Laragh different, and it is critical to the success of our new projects, the communities, our stakeholders and, of course, the homebuyers.

Emerson Park, Cambridge

Located on the edge of Great Abington, approximately seven miles south east of Cambridge, Emerson Park provides a high-quality residential development in a sustainable location and attractive setting to meet the identified housing needs of the area.

The design and materials reflects the local vernacular, as it is in keeping with the character of the area.

The housing mix consists of 15 one to four bedroom houses including seven affordable units.

Novum, Cambridge

An exciting scheme of 14 new apartments in a prime location. The high-quality development transformed a derelict row of terraced houses into a stylish apartment building containing one and two bedroom homes benefiting from open plan dual aspect kitchen, dining and living areas.

Providing Affordable Housing

At Laragh, we work closely with community land trusts, local authorities and housing associations to provide high-quality, affordable and desirable homes. Our developments are designed so the affordable homes sit among our privately owned properties, creating an inclusive community.

Our Corporate Social Responsibility Awardwinning development at Manor Farm in Stretham saw Laragh and The Stretham and Wilburton Community Land Trust (SWCLT) collaborating to design, build and deliver affordable homes for local people to create a new community within the village.

First Homes Scheme

The First Homes government initiative meant big discounts for local first-time buyers and key workers. First Homes were available on a limited number of new-build properties and Laragh Homes are proud to say that we were able to offer this scheme on apartments at our Emerson Park development.

Supporting Good Causes

Whilst creating high-quality homes and communities where people want to live is important, we also believe that giving back to local events, not-for-profit organisations, and charities is of equal importance. Each year we carefully select not-for-profit organisations and events to support. If there’s a personal connection to someone at Laragh or a link to a community we work with, we will always consider getting involved.

Founded on Laragh’s long-standing reputation as a successful developer with extensive industry expertise, commitment to quality and in-depth market knowledge, Laragh Build is perfectly positioned to forge ahead in the residential construction sector.

A different perspective

Laragh Build will enable closer control on important aspects, from supplier and sub-contractor selection, detailed design and top-level specification to the final quality of finish, snagging works and aftersales service.

Joint ventures

Laragh Build will also present unique opportunities to undertake joint ventures with landowners, registered social landlords and local authorities, improving efficiency and outlay by providing a full design, develop and build service for development projects.
