CITY LIVING AT THE
LIVE / WORK / PLAY
The Fruit Market waterside district has been an area of economic activity for 200 years and was the centre of Hull’s wholesale fruit and vegetable trade until 2009. In recent years it has found a new role as Hull’s creative and cultural quarter and as a fast-growing commercial centre for independent cafés, retail, restaurants and galleries. The £80m rejuvenation of the Fruit Market is the biggest urban regeneration scheme in a city enjoying unprecedented investment, with Hull’s status as the UK City of Culture serving as a major catalyst. Two long-established Hull businesses, regeneration company Wykeland Group and residential developer Beal Homes, have formed a joint venture company, Wykeland Beal, to breathe new life into the Fruit Market, working in partnership with Hull City Council. Wykeland and Beal each have almost 50 years history as private, locally owned and managed businesses, with exemplary track records in delivering high-quality residential, commercial and retail schemes. The ambition is to create an “urban village” featuring business, arts, culture, retail and leisure, together with a hotly-anticipated £17m scheme bringing modern city living to Hull. Wykeland and Beal share their vision for the Fruit Market to be “a unique, vibrant and cultural quarter where people live, work and play”. Kingston Upon Hull, known as “Hull, stands proudly where the River Hull joins the River Humber and is a city steeped in history. Named Kings-town upon Hull by King Edward I in 1299, the market town grew and over the centuries has become a trading hub, military supply port, fishing and whaling centre and an industrial metropolis. Sitting on the east coast, Hull is less than an hour away from the main A1(M) providing transport links up and down the country. Hull has never been a better place to live, work and play having been awarded the City of Culture in 2017 and is undergoing considerable regeneration and multi-million pound investment. Hull has been busy going through an incredibly ambitious transformation, which combines its strong maritime roots with a dynamic city, making Hull a community which is brimming with opportunity, enterprise and culture. The Fruit Market will benefit from an exciting mix of contemporary two and three bedroom houses and two and three bedroom apartments bringing luxury and style to the area.

THE FRUIT MARKET’S HISTORIC PAST
The City’s docks and fruit market share a deep and varied history. It is thought that Hull’s Fruit Market began trading as early as the 16th Century, selling fruit at the docks and later in 1888 expanding into a fruit and vegetable market. The success and spread of the market came thanks to the construction and expansion of Hull’s docks in the early 1800’s, including the Humber dock. The decision to build docks on the east side of the River Hull was made as the old docks were simply not large enough to accommodate the increasing number of ships. The docks and waterfront expansion began and the market grew with the docks from outside the town walls and along the waterfront. Hull’s Fruit Market later operated mostly out of the Humber Street area up until 2009 when it moved to Priory Park. Hull is the birthplace of William Wilberforce, an MP for Hull in 1780 and a leader in the movement to stop the slave trade. He died just three days after the Act had been passed by Parliament and is buried at Westminster Abbey near his friend William Pitt, a former Prime Minister.

Hull offers an abundance of dining opportunities to suit all tastes. Princes Dock Street overlooks the original dock and is home to some great places to eat and drink. For fine dining visit 1884 Dock Street Kitchen – winner of the England Gold award, or taste tapas in the sister restaurant 1884 Wine and Tapas. For a taste of India head to Tapasaya. Hull is of course famous for its links with the sea so maybe fish should be your dish of the day? Try Cerutti’s which looks out over the pier. At the Fruit Market why not relax with a drink and a meal at Butler Whites or taste the delectable Spanish cuisine of Ambiente Tapas, offering locally sourced and authentic Spanish imported ingredients. Close by The Minerva, a Remarkable East Yorkshire Tourism Award Pub finalist where traditional pub fayre is enjoyed. Visit the Humber Street Distillery Co, which offers 100 different varieties of gin, craft beers, cocktails and spirits all played out to soundtrack of Jazz, Blues, Funk or Soul music. If a freshly brewed coffee is needed, then Thieving Harrys Place is a must or pop along to Früit – a unique venue in the Marina streets offering live music, comedy, theatre, vintage markets and cinema screenings. The Fruit Market is guaranteed to delight your culinary desires.

The Fruit Market is a vibrant hive of activity, a unique location that celebrates a diverse range of residential space with independent retail, leisure and arts. C4DI (The Centre for Digital Innovation), is a privately funded incubator, helping technology companies grow, and traditional businesses innovate. The old central dry dock was once booming with industry, hundreds of men were employed at the docks; building, repairing and fitting ships. Today, new life has been brought into the dock by Wykeland, transforming it into an open air amphitheatre that seats 350, acting as host to a myriad of different activities from live outdoor theatre, film, music events, comedy and art exhibitions. Creative, ambitious, colourful and teeming with culture, the Fruit Market offers everyone the perfect place to live, work and play.

MAKE IT YOURS
CREATE. LIVE. ENJOY. THE DESIGN PROCESS BEGINS WITH A PERSONAL CONSULTATION AT OUR CUSTOMER SELECTION STUDIO. This studio and our creative team of home designers and architects is far removed from the traditional approach to buying a new home where buyers are expected to make their new home choices on site in a busy sales office. Here, you are are able to take your time over your choice of layout as well as decide on fixtures, fittings and finishes from our extensive displays. This is the place that gives you the freedom to create a home that is as individual as you are.
4 STEPS TO CREATING YOUR DREAM HOME
1
When you reserve your new Beal home, we invite you to meet with our Customer Selection Manager at our Selection Studio.
46
2
You can browse and choose from an extensive range of fixtures, fittings, upgrades and home technology options.
3
Our architects and designers will talk you through how you envisage your internal layouts and designs to look.
4
When you’re happy with everything, we give you a pack of colour visuals and a plan of your kitchen, bathroom and living spaces with the new layouts to take home.

We’ve really opened up the downstairs interior into a vast contemporary living space. It’s just what we wanted – Beal Homes were so accommodating and helpful. Sally Lingard-Smith and family customised their four bedroom Carlton at Kings Chase, Hull
These were not just cosmetic changes, but major alterations to meet our vision for our home here. Beal Homes do a very good job and are really attentive to customers’ requirements. The Thackeray’s customised their waterside home at The Quays, at Burton Waters Marina near Lincoln
AWARD WINNING DIFFERENCE
The ‘Beal Difference’ has received national recognition, winning ‘Best Customer Satisfaction Initiative’ at The Housebuilder Awards 2015 and numerous regional awards during 2016 & 2017. It’s all about the tireless pursuit of the kind of quality, service and detail you require to live in the place you always dreamed of.
