Philosophy

We build on our reputation of playing with passion and good sportsmanship. Our coaching staff recognizes the importance of skill development and good hockey habits. All hockey players are invited to engage in an inclusive program detailed by film, age-appropriate strength and conditioning, and on-ice training.

history

Our hockey traditions date back to 1910. The rink is named for David Tirrell, head coach of the program from 1950 to 1955. Bill Cooper followed as head coach and his successful career lasted 20 years, including a Housatonic Championship. Most recently, the team earned the 2017-2018 Founders League Championship title.

league

The Pride competes in the Founders League against Avon, Choate, Hotchkiss, Kent, Loomis Chaffee, Taft, and Westminster. We also compete against Housatonic League members Deerfield and Salisbury. Other rivals are Albany Academy, Brunswick, Canterbury, Frederick Gunn School, and Millbrook.

Facilities

yTirrell Rink is the home of Pride Hockey and an iconic NEPSAC arena. Tirrell’s barrel vault ceiling is a beautiful wooden structure, accentuated by a new lighting system (2022); under the vault is one of the fastest ice surfaces, made more accessible to the community with a new cooling system (2022). The rink is open and available for all three athletic seasons during the Fall, Winter, and Spring Terms.
