bimonthly newsletter for the Greenville County Library System
2009 information
One great librarian-recommended tactic for saving money is to borrow that next great read from your public library; if you love it, then you can add it to your home library. By reading before buying, you can save hundreds of dollars per year and collect only what you want to own! Hint: The Friends Shop at the Hughes Main Library is a great place to pick up gently used books year-round at a fraction of the retail price. Use your public library as a way to stay healthy and fit this spring by checking out athome workout videos and DVDs. Browse our vast collection of feature films, documentaries, television shows and musical specials. Unlike most online rental companies, the Greenville County Library System will let you borrow five at a time – and they are renewable! Use library computers and our internet access. If you are working on a project, you can check out a laptop at the Hughes Main Library and use it in one of our study rooms. Don’t let family outings suffer due to the rising costs of theatre, films, concerts and other special events. Just plan on coming to the public library! Ask a librarian about “family friendly” events, including performances by professional theatre groups, puppeteers, artists and songwriters, all at little or no charge to the public.
Learn some tricks to save money by getting the most out of your public library:
The library also hosts book discussion groups and classes (including knitting instruction, computer help, language lessons and more) for adults at several branch locations. Have your own group? Use one of our free meeting or conference room spaces – they can hold as many as 300 people – all you need is a library card! continued on the inside cover>>
The mission of the Greenville County Library System: To serve Greenville County as the best provider of guided access to quality resources for information, education and leisure.
<< continued from front cover Librarians certainly understand the need for the latest news. They suggest a morning ritual of coffee and pastries at the Palmetto Bean Café while you relax and enjoy the newspaper or your favorite celebrity news magazine. If you’ve already read the current issue, most branches have magazine back issues that you can check out! From Modern Bride to The New York Times Book Review, stay current without going broke! Don’t forget about our 24-hour library! Browse our automotive databases and save money by learning how to change your own oil. Interested in genealogy? Save money by searching our databases and electronic records – without the monthly fee that most popular genealogical websites require. If you need magazine articles or books for a school project, try finding them in the library catalog online or request them through Interlibrary Loan first. You could save hundreds of dollars by borrowing instead of buying! Just visit our website: www.greenvillelibrary.com and click on “Research.”
