the Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd
Check out the book, join the discussion and take part in the related events throughout March, April and May.
The Secret Life of Bees is the story of Lily Owens, a fourteen year old girl who has shaped her life around one memory: the day her mother was killed. In the summer of 1964, Lily works on a peach farm until one day she and the housekeeper find themselves on the run from the law and Lily’s abusive father. Their flight takes them to Tiburon, South Carolina where they meet the trio of beekeeping sisters, the Boatwrights, who take them in. In her new world of bees and honey, surrounded by powerful and wise women, Lily journeys through painful secrets and betrayals, until she discovers the thing she has longed for most of all.
The Amazing Read 2011 book selection is designed for audiences 13 and older with the intent to encourage discussion and build community around literature. South Carolina Room Orientation and Tour
In celebration of AIA Greenville Architecture Month, we are proud to host the exhibit titled, Tesselations: Architecture, Community and Homelessness, opening Friday, April 29. This custom built exhibit, focused on the plight of homelessness in South Carolina, was designed by the students of studioG1 from Clemson University’s Graduate School of Architecture. This project has been submitted to the ACSA national design competition titled: HOMEless Assistance Center. The exhibit includes plans for sites in Greenville and Columbia along with educational details of the materials and needs of transitional housing. Call 527-9293.

Saturday, April 30 • 1:00p-3:00p Augusta Road (Ramsey Family) Branch Rebekah Trieper returns with six new spring and summer cupcake designs. Open to children 7 and up with an adult caregiver. Each pair will decorate and take home six cupcakes. $10 materials fee per pair includes cupcakes and a decorating kit. Call 277-0161 to register.
