Vol. XXVII No. 3 March 2018

Gratitude Report During this Lenten season, the Stewardship Committee will focus on Planned Giving as one important practice of how we steward God’s gifts. What is Planned Giving? Planned Gifts fund the future and ensure that the things we care about will grow and thrive. Planned Gifts—gifts made through bequests in wills, life income gifts, and appreciated properties—are part of a thoughtful financial plan for your family. They are a recognition that in time all assets will pass from one generation to the next. Planned Giving then is a statement of faith and belief in the future. Planned Gifts are made from your estate. “Estate” is simply a word used to describe any money, property, or personal belongs that you may have at the time of your death. Everyone has an “estate.” All Planned Gifts designated for Trinity Church are held in the Trinity Perpetual Memorial Endowment Fund (TPMEF). Established in 1975, the TPMEF consists of assets that have been bequeathed to the church by faithful parishioners and friends. The fund ensures a Church for the future. The value of the TPMEF currently stands at $6,355,081. Each year the Church draws 4% from the TPMEF for essential operating expenses and ministries. The rest grows in perpetuity. Without these funds, we would not have the depth and breadth of programs that sustain us today. The TPMEF is professionally managed by Monroe Vos, a Houston firm, with oversight by Trinity’s Endowment Committee. Members include Chair George Young, Keith Crawford, Barbara Waller, Marky Murphy, Joel Funderberk, Ben Dupuy, Bill Frieburg, Martin de Laureal, Margarite Redwine, and Warren Waters. Hundreds of Trinity parishioners, both living and deceased, have contributed to the TPMEF to ensure that Trinity will continue its mission of excellence for future generations. In mid-April, the Vestry and Rector will host a cocktail reception to honor all living parishioners who have named Trinity in their estate plans. Complete details and invitations will follow. For a listing of all contributors to the TPMEF, please visit our website at www.trinitynola.com and click on the Endowment tab. Most Planned Gifts are simple bequests made in a will and are part of your estate plan. For example, Dane Edwards Evans (1943-2015) served the Church with his impressive musical skills. He played for Wednesday night services and served on the committee to select the new Organist and Choirmaster. He was also actively involved in Loaves and Fishes. The music he played and the kindness he showed to all was a testimony to his life of faith. Dane’s careful planning resulted in a generous gift of over $50,000 to Trinity. Writing a will is a loving and responsible act for your family that needs to be taken regardless of your age or the value of your assets. If you don’t have a will, the government has already written your will for you! Please join us for an informational session in the chapel on Sunday, April 15 following the 8:00 am and the 10:30 am services to learn more. Those attending will receive excellent printed materials to help with the planning process. As you plan for your own future, we hope you will consider making provisions for Trinity Church. Part of the reason that Trinity Church exists today is because past generations gave generously to ensure that the ministries of our congregation could be sustained, that clergy could be supported and that our magnificent buildings could be maintained. A bequest of any size is a way to share your life of faith with those you love.

Trinity Connections

Our Annual Gift To Women of Trinity Church Trinity Treasures is delighted to share the good news about our little shop. Although brick and mortar retail sales continue to decline in our new internet-based world, sales in Trinity Treasures remained solid and encouraging during 2017. For this reason, it gives us great pleasure to let you know that we are again gifting $15,000 to Women of Trinity Church (WOTC) for our annual grant. WOTC will in turn use this money to fund important church ministries and community projects. Trinity Treasures is in its twelfth year of existence over which time we’ve been able to provide WOTC with over $140,000 from profits made from sales of our books and gifts. As always, we are dedicating this donation to our wonderful, committed volunteers without whom there would be no Trinity Treasures. We are so pleased that Edie Darragh has taken on the position of Trinity Treasures Co-Manager and has already experienced the challenges presented by attending the Atlanta Wholesale Gift Market with Linda Stone and Tina Grant in January 2018. Edie will assume the role of scheduling volunteers to work in Trinity Treasures as well as other management duties. She has already brought her enthusiasm, quick mind, organizational abilities and amazing creativity to help Trinity Treasures to continue moving forward into the future. We have a number of new volunteers who are helping to keep Trinity Treasures operating smoothly. So many Trinity members work tirelessly with our special events, book signings, marketing, inventory management, cleaning and organizing our little shop that there is too little space to mention everyone here. Also, our one-year-old Advisory Board has provided one innovative idea after another to improve our operations and reputation as a unique destination for purchasing thoughtful, joyful and spiritually uplifting books and gifts. For all of these reasons, we believe that a positive new energy and enthusiasm is apparent to anyone walking into Trinity Treasures. Trinity Treasures is such a vital ministry of our church. Thank you for your support. It is a joy to be a part of it all. With much love and deepest gratitude, Linda, Tina and Edie
