WHERE HIGHER EDUCATION IN WALES BEGAN THE UNIVERSITY LOOKS FORWARD TO CELEBRATING 200 YEARS OF HIGHER EDUCATION IN WALES IN 2022 AND ITS ROLE IN SHAPING A NATION. The bicentenary celebrations will commemorate the establishment of St David’s College, Lampeter in 1822 and mark its place as the birthplace of higher education in Wales. The University’s Royal Charter of 1828 is the oldest in Wales and England after Oxford and Cambridge. The bicentenary celebrations will provide us with the

opportunity to celebrate the successes and achievements of UWTSD and its founding institutions over the past two centuries. Our presence in Lampeter, Carmarthen, Swansea and Cardiff allow us to have a significant impact on our communities in Wales and further afield. We take great pride in our history and our connection to it, particularly as it has provided us with the determination and confidence to shape our own future for generations to come. 2022 will provide us with the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our staff, students and graduates through the Arts, Education, Humanities, Science and Technology.

TSDSU is a charity run by student-elected representatives who work to make sure you have the best possible experience at UWTSD.

hello

Our student-led activities are the hub of student life, encompassing entertainment, sports clubs, societies and volunteering projects. We give you a space to make friends. Socially, physically, mentally or academically, we all need a bit of support or independent advice sometimes. TSDSU makes sure support is available and accessible. Together we help you change things which affect you. We tackle rules and policies where they aren’t working. We make sure funding goes where you want and need it. We support students to be course representatives and make improvements.

Once a year, students elect officers to work full-time at TSDSU. These officers lead the long-term direction of the SU, making sure we’re tackling the biggest issues for our students – funding, cost of living, teaching quality and so on – across several years. You can have your say by electing your representatives and contributing to TSDSU’s student council.

I fell in love with the scenery and the size of the place almost instantly. I'm not a fan of big crowds so the size of the campus was perfect for me. My time here has been amazing and I've learnt so much. I've had so many opportunities as part of my course, from being able to look at medieval manuscripts in our archives within the first couple of weeks of starting my degree, to really specialised archaeology modules and fieldwork. My modules would not be as brilliant as they are without the excellent academic staff who will always help you if you are stuck. They have an open door policy, which means if the office door is open, you can go and see them with whatever issues you may have, whether it be academic or personal. I've thoughly enjoyed my time at Lampeter, so much so that I am likely to continue studying here as a postgraduate.

MONEY MATTERS At university you can choose to learn a subject you love, earn a qualification that will lead you to your chosen career, broaden your outlook and open doors to many jobs that require applicants to have a degree. It’s an investment in your future.

HOW MUCH WILL MY COURSE COST? The fees at UWTSD for fulltime UK/EU students are currently £9,000 per year for our undergraduate courses.

SO HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? You will have two main types of expenses - fees and living costs. There is help available from the government to support you with both. The amount you receive will depend on your family income and where you study. For example, since September 2018 all eligible students residing in Wales starting a university course have received support for living costs, made up of a mixture of grants and loans. Most receive support equivalent to the National Living Wage. For students with a relatively low household income, most of the available support for living costs will be a grant. Most students pay nothing up front and won’t have to pay the money back until they earn over £25,725 a year as a graduate. Find details relevant to where you live through the links on our website.

I’m very proud to have studied at UWTSD Cardiff – it gave me the opportunity to grow and develop as a performer and to find my own voice. I’d always sung and I’d had experience of singing before but it gave me the confidence and it taught me so much about myself. It taught me how to channel my nerves. I don’t think I would ever have gone for the X Factor, if it hadn’t been for all the hard work and effort that the lecturers put into this course.

Live it, breathe it and engineer it! I love engineering – I have always been passionate about cars, taking them apart to see how they work. I am from Spain but picked UWTSD because I did my research and it was the best University in the UK for Automotive Engineering.

UCAS INSTITUTION CODE: T80 UNIVERSITY OF WALES TRINITY SAINT DAVID FULL-TIME, UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

STUDENTS AT A SCHOOL OR COLLEGE REGISTERED WITH UCAS

All applications to study for a full-time undergraduate degree programme or Higher National Diploma at the University are made online through UCAS using Apply.

All UK schools and colleges (and a small number of establishments overseas) are registered with UCAS to manage their students’ applications.

Depending on your circumstances, there are some slight differences to the way UCAS receives your application.

INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS OUTSIDE THE UK (EU AND WORLDWIDE)

INDEPENDENT APPLICANTS IN THE UK Other UK applicants, who are not at school or college, apply online independently.

Individuals from the EU (excluding the UK) and worldwide apply online independently to the University, except for those whose school or college is registered with UCAS.

For all applicants, there are full instructions at UCAS to make it as easy as possible for you to fill in your online application. If you require further information and advice, you can contact the UCAS Customer Service Unit on +44 (0)871 468 0468, open Monday to Friday, 08.30 - 18.00 (UK time). uwtsd.ac.uk | 77

WHEN TO APPLY UCAS will begin to process applications for the new academic year from early September. Most of our full-time undergraduate programmes have a UCAS application deadline of 15 January. However, you should check the application deadline for your chosen course on the UCAS website. Submit your application to UCAS prior to the deadline for your best chance of getting the place you really want. You can apply after that date, if we still have vacancies for the course you have selected.

PART-TIME, UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS We offer flexible learning patterns to suit learners from all backgrounds and for those balancing other commitments. Our online application form will enable you to complete your application form electronically. You can ask the university’s Registry department for an application pack, if you prefer.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Below are some typical minimum requirements for applicants; however, for specific entry requirements for each course, please visit our website www.uwtsd.ac.uk or the UCAS website.

It gives numerical values to qualifications. It establishes agreed equivalences between different types of qualifications. It provides comparisons between applicants with different types of achievement.

HONOURS DEGREE PROGRAMMES

HOW DOES THE POINT SCORE SYSTEM WORK?

Typically, a minimum of two A-Levels and/or other Level 3 qualifications or equivalent. There may be some specific course requirements to be taken into account.

Point scores can be accumulated from different qualifications, e.g. GCE A-Level/ Advanced Subsidiary (AS). There is no ceiling to the number of points which can be achieved, thereby recognising the full breadth and depth of students’ achievements.

HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMAS Typically a minimum of one A-Level and supporting and/or other Level 3 qualifications or equivalent. WHAT IS THE UCAS TARIFF? It is a points score system to report achievement for entry to higher education.

There is no double counting – students cannot count the same or similar qualifications twice. Advanced Subsidiary scores will be subsumed into the A-Level scores in the same subject. Scottish Higher scores will be subsumed into Advanced Higher scores in the same subject.

Using the CISCO hardware is unique to this University, enabling us to gain skills required for industry, for example, solving the problems that occur while using the actual hardware that you wouldn't experience if you were just using CISCO Packet Tracer (simulation). I would recommend the course because the staff are friendly and supportive and the skills learned are current now and into the future.
