UCAS INSTITUTION CODE: T80 UNIVERSITY OF WALES TRINITY SAINT DAVID

FULL-TIME, UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

All applications to study for a full-time undergraduate degree programme or Higher National Diploma at the University are made online through UCAS using Apply.

Depending on your circumstances, there are some slight differences to the way UCAS receives your application.

INDEPENDENT APPLICANTS IN THE UK

Other UK applicants, who are not at school or college, apply online independently.

STUDENTS AT A SCHOOL OR COLLEGE REGISTERED WITH UCAS

All UK schools and colleges (and a small number of establishments overseas) are registered with UCAS to manage their students’ applications.

INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS OUTSIDE THE UK

(EU AND WORLDWIDE)

Individuals from the EU (excluding the UK) and worldwide apply online independently to the University, except for those whose school or college is registered with UCAS.

For all applicants, there are full instructions at UCAS to make it as easy as possible for you to fill in your online application.

If you require further information and advice, you can contact the UCAS Customer Service Unit on +44 (0)871 468 0468, open Monday to Friday, 08.30 - 18.00 (UK time).

WHEN TO APPLY

UCAS will begin to process applications for the new academic year from early September.

Most of our full-time undergraduate programmes have a UCAS application deadline of 15 January. However, you should check the application deadline for your chosen course on the UCAS website.

Submit your application to UCAS prior to the deadline for your best chance of getting the place you really want. You can apply after that date, if we still have vacancies for the course you have selected.

PART-TIME, UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

We offer flexible learning patterns to suit learners from all backgrounds and for those balancing other commitments.

Our online application form will enable you to complete your application electronically. You can ask the university’s Registry department for an application pack, if you prefer.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Below are some typical minimum requirements for applicants; however, for specific entry requirements for each course, please visit our website www.uwtsd.ac.uk or the UCAS website.

HONOURS DEGREE PROGRAMMES

Typically, a minimum of two A-Levels and/or other Level 3 qualifications or equivalent. There may be some specific course requirements to be taken into account.

HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMAS

Typically a minimum of one A-Level and supporting and/or other Level 3 qualifications or equivalent.

WHAT IS THE UCAS TARIFF?

It is a points score system to report achievement for entry to higher education. It gives numerical values to qualifications. It establishes agreed equivalences between different types of qualifications. It provides comparisons between applicants with different types of achievement.

HOW DOES THE POINT SCORE SYSTEM WORK?

Point scores can be accumulated from different qualifications, e.g. GCE A-Level/ Advanced Subsidiary (AS). There is no ceiling to the number of points which can be achieved, thereby recognising the full breadth and depth of students’ achievements.

There is no double counting – students cannot count the same or similar qualifications twice. Advanced Subsidiary scores will be subsumed into the A-Level scores in the same subject. Scottish Higher scores will be subsumed into Advanced Higher scores in the same subject.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

If you are an international student, or an EU student whose first language is not English, you will be required to have sufficient command of the English language to enable you to follow your course.

For further information regarding the English language requirements for your course, please go to the relevant course page in the UWTSD website: www.uwtsd.ac.uk/international/ applications-and-admissions/ english-language-entryrequirements/

VISA PROCEDURES FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Students who come from outside of the European Union/EEA will be required to have a valid visa before they can study in the UK.

Although there are many types of visa, if you are applying for a visa to study for six months or more, you are likely to be required to apply for a Student Route student visa. Once you have received an offer from the University and met all of the conditions, we will be able to offer you guidance and advice regarding your visa application. If you hold another current UK visa you may be able to study at UWTSD.

For more details regarding the Student Visa Route visa application process, please visit: www.ukcisa.org.uk/Information-Advice/Visas-and-Immigration/ Student-route-eligibility-andrequirements

If you have any questions regarding English Language Requirements please e-mail:

Non-standard qualifications? We welcome applications from adult learners who may not possess formal qualifications but have the motivation and commitment to study for Higher Education qualifications.

We are keen to encourage students who are returning to study on to our programmes and are able to consider applications based on individual merit. If you are able to demonstrate appropriate experience, knowledge or evidence of recent study, we may be able to consider these in lieu of formal academic qualifications. We will invite you to an interview to discuss an appropriate course and preparation for studying towards a qualification. Help and advice on choosing the right course, and the application process, is available from experienced staff.

For more information visit:

uwtsd.ac.uk/student-services TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF AN OFFER OF A PLACE

A place on a programme of study is subject to the applicant successfully completing the admissions and enrolment process.

An offer of a place is subject to the terms and conditions specified in the offer letter, the information on the University's website, in its prospectus and in the `Student Charter.'

It is also subject to the regulations, policies and procedures of the University, including those contained in the Academic Quality Handbook, the document ‘University Regulations - Student Guide’, the appropriate Programme of Study Handbook and the University's Admissions Policy (available at www.uwtsd.ac.uk).

When an applicant accepts an offer of a place at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, a binding contract is formed.

QUALIFICATIONS CONSIDERED

We consider a variety of qualifications, including A-Level, Advanced Welsh Baccalaureate, Scottish Advanced Higher, Scottish Higher and BTEC Level 3 National Diploma. ACCESS COURSES

An increasing number of students now apply after completing Access courses, and we warmly welcome such applicants.

KEY SKILLS

The University welcomes applications from students studying Key Skills qualifications, but offers will not usually include more than 6 UCAS tariff points for Level 3 Key skills.

INTERNATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

We recognise a wide range of international qualifications, including the International, French and European Baccalaureates. If you are applying from outside the UK, typically a minimum of the equivalent of two A-Level passes for an honours degree programme and the equivalent of one UK A-Level pass for an

HND programme will meet the University entry requirements. The University will also accept students who have completed a recognised International Foundation Programme, for example, those offered by UK Further Education Colleges, Universities, and Colleges of Higher Education.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

The University is pleased to consider applications from individuals with relevant certificated qualifications or evidence of experiential learning that may allow them to enter a programme at an advanced level. Applicants will be asked to complete a Recognition of Prior Learning form at the application stage.

We are proud of our long and successful history of teacher training and look forward to playing our part in developing the next generation of professional teachers and effective school leaders.

The number of places available for PGCE Initial Teacher Education programmes are allocated to the University each year by the Welsh Government. This means that the number of places available can vary and competition can be high. You are strongly advised to apply early to secure the best opportunity for a place.

Using the CISCO hardware is unique to this University, enabling us to gain skills required for industry, for example, solving the problems that occur while using the actual hardware that you wouldn't experience if you were just using CISCO Packet Tracer (simulation). I would recommend the course because the staff are friendly and supportive and the skills learned are current now and into the future.
