Despite the positive inspiration I felt from the submission topic cue, I felt a need to explore some underlying cynicism that I felt in the back of my mind as I mulled over my initial concepts and ideas. I modeled my submission around some famous propaganda posters, complete with a poster within the piece itself. The result was a cathartic exploration of my conflicted feelings around developing a service mindset.

VERSTEHEN (n.) “meaningful understanding”; the concept of putting yourself in the shoes of others in order to see things from their perspective and understand them better. "Verstehen" is a series of (4) publications under the Trinity Press born out of Trinity Theatre’s leadership labs and programming throughout the year exploring themes such as civics, business, environment, health, heritage, faith, and the arts umbrella. The first instalment is centred on the themes of "Civics" and "Business” as the Lab begins to navigate through their environment to learn more about themselves and their relationship with their greater communities. Drawing on the notion of a 'social flesh' to capture a vision of embodied subjects or embodied citizenship, we ask: what does it mean to be of service to one's greater community? More broadly, what does being a member of one's community entail?
