I am probably one of the luckiest guys on the planet! I am married to such a hot-mama that’s not only super amazing at everything she does, but she’s extremely supportive of everything I do; from working up to 60 hours a week taking care of customers and selling cars, to pursuing my passions like music and performing. We’ve also been blessed with an up-beat, highly creative, healthy and happy daughter named Araya… think “A Ray Of Sunshine.” That’s pretty much what she is ;) and now she’s got a little brother on his way.

What brought you to Erie, CO?

What challenges did you deal with? What did you overcome to get to where you are today?

Growing up, I struggled with addiction, and spent over 14 years of my life addicted to crystal meth and cocaine. On top of that, I struggled with obesity and depression. However, I am now celebrating over 14 years in sobriety, and am living the happiest, healthiest life I’ve ever experienced.
Erie is just beautiful. And for my budget, the gorgeous house I was able to buy would’ve been the size of my walk-in closet in Boulder.

him, I’d probably still be trapped in addiction, in jail, or dead. I also want to thank my cousin Raul and the Francisco family who took me into their home fourteen years ago and helped me in my transition from addiction to sobriety! Special thanks to Jeff Baca and Justin Helmick for being the only company to give me a shot and hire me when I was only six days sober. I’ve been working with them ever since. And lastly, I want to thank my wife Jamie, my brothers, and my sister, for always being there for me.

How did you get your motivation?
My motivation probably came from my late mom, rest in peace. Boy, she used to light a fire under my butt whenever I sat around being unproductive. Now, I stay motivated from reading a lot of spiritual, selfhelp, motivational, success-driven books, and by eating healthy, exercising, and meditating.

Do you have anyone to thank for their support and help in the challenging times?
Too many! First and foremost. I want to thank God, Life, the Universe, for this journey I’m on. Secondly, I want to thank my dad. He was always there for me when I would hit rock bottom. Matter of fact, he WAS the rock at the bottom, that I landed on whenever life would crash! If it wasn’t for

How did you acquire the knowledge or insight to write your book about selling?
B
Fourteen years in the car business. And what I realized most is that it isn’t ABOUT selling… it’s about SERVING. If you’re after the money, then you’ve got it backwards. But if your focus is to truly take amazing care of people, then I promise you, the money will come. I’ve seen too many people come and go, failing at a sales position that offered the opportunity to take care of so many, and becoming financially abundant from it. However, there are too many pitfalls and traps that prevent people from succeeding at it. So I wrote a book. It’s not a process-driven book telling you how to “do” sales, but rather, an inspirational book that gives you insight on how to “be” in sales.

What are your goals for the next 3 years?
I would like to see one or more of my singles on the Billboard 100! Also, my book, “Stop Selling, SERVE And Get Paid What You’re Worth” on a BEST SELLER’s LIST and most importantly, I’d like to inspire so many and being able to tour the country, while taking care of my previous customers with any vehicle needs for them and their family.

Pre-qualify with a builder’s lender early. This is typically a pre-requisite to be added to the lot release waiting list.

Be prepared for the fact that the base price of the home, the lot premium, and the cost of structural/design center options may increase several times before your turn comes up on the lot-release wait list. Demand combined with massive

Don’t be afraid to put yourself in a 2nd or 3rd place on the waiting list for a lot. Because we are seeing many people “bow out” and pass on their turn in line, as the multiple price increases often put the home out of financial reach by the time their name is called to reserve a lot and start construction. We’re seeing the 2nd or 3rd person on the list often get the lot lately.

Be prepared to make a “double move” if you have a house to sell before the new one closes. Most builders require that your current “contingent” home is completely sold and closed, a few months before their new one is complete. So, unless you earn enough to qualify for the new home without selling your current one first, a “double-move’ will likely be required. In fact, Richmond American homes in Collier’s Hill has so many people trying to reserve lots, that they recently began requiring buyers to have their current home under-contract before they will even allow you to contract a lot when your name is called on their waitlist.

Make sure you still qualify for the home, even if mortgage rates increase substantially by the time you are eligible to lock the rate on your loan. Mortgage rates have nowhere to go from here but up. Therefore, if a buyer enters the nearly year-long process of building a home from dirt, there is a strong possibility that mortgage rates could be considerably higher by the time the home is close enough to completion to lock in an interest rate. Most builder’s lenders cannot allow you to initiate a rate lock until the home is within 90 days of closing. This means that buyers will be exposed to possible interest rate increases for 6-7 months before they can lock down a rate. Therefore, it is not wise to push the price of the home to the absolute maximum amount you qualify for, because even a modest rate increase could mean that you no longer qualify to close on the home once you reach the point where you can lock. *There are some banks out there with long-term construction locks that start 6-10 months out from closing, but those locks are more costly and utilizing them will typically cause you to forfeit the builder’s incentives offered to those who use their in-house lender.

Hugo’s Beef Wellington INGREDIENTS beef tenderloin
(if you are not up for the challenge of cleaning the beef tenderloin, some butchers or stores like Costco will sell it to you already cleaned) you can use a whole or half tenderloin, depending on your family/party size)
puff pastry sheets- 1/2 package 2 eggs 12 prosciutto slices (quantities change depending on size of tenderloin)
2 garlic cloves 1 shallot onion 1 lb mushrooms old-fashioned Dijon grainy mustard seasoning (be as creative as you want) fresh parsley and fresh thyme (if possible) bit of butter
INSTRUCTIONS 1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees 2. Season and sear the tenderloin all around until getting a nice char color, let it rest and cool it down 3. Now you’re making the mushrooms duxelles: chop all the mushrooms, garlic, parsley and thyme, melt the butter in a sauté pan, add the garlic and shallots 4. When they start getting color, add the mushrooms, season with salt and pepper, add the parsley and thyme 5. Cook all together until becomes like a paste, place on cutting board and chop all together until it gets a paté texture, set aside (if you don’t like mushrooms forget about the duxelles) spread the old fashioned mustard and mushrooms duxelles all around the tenderloin. 6. Place your puff pastry on the table, make a bed of prosciutto slices, place the tenderloin on the bed of prosciutto, wrap around with prosciutto, nice and tight. Wrap around with puff pastry, use egg wash to seal the pastry, let it cool in the fridge for a little bit (approx. 30 minutes) 7. Bake at 400 degrees for 25-35 minutes to desired temperature. Let it rest for 5 minutes and enjoy 8. Pair with a good bottle of Rioja wine, make your favorite sauce and sides and have a blast...

Your head begins to throb, and your stomach feels like you did a thousand sit ups (I wish!). But long-term stress is another story that can take a toll on your body.

Q & A WITH A THERAPIST
Q & A with a Therapist by Lisa Nelson MA, LPCC, NCC
In the last issue we tackled some concerns about couples and how COVID-19 is impacting these relationships. This issue will be covering about addictions. Question: Why is it that some people become addicted to substances and others don’t? Is there a difference between being addicted to alcohol or to drugs? Thoughts: Great question thanks! Let’s begin with the basics: addiction can happen to anyone, at any point in their life. There is no difference in being addicted to food, alcohol or methamphetamines. The real issue has to do with the person that has the addiction, and how they feel about themselves. While the common perspective that addiction is a disease is no longer used; the “dis-ease” is often the felt sense of filling a hole in a person’s thoughts toward themselves. Let’s look at an example: Stephen is a 45 year-old man in good health. He has been drinking beer since he was about 16. He says that beer was helpful for managing stress and blowing off steam when he was in high school. He had a hard time in college and afterward in feeling like there was too much pressure to be a great person. The beer became a necessary item for his everyday experience when he took his first management-level job. Stephen was drinking 2 six packs per day in 2016 when he was fired from his job and his wife left. In helping Stephen deal with this issue, we discovered that Stephen was masking his need to be seen by others as perfectly successful by driving the stress away with beer. He ended up driving away the 2 things that matter the most to him instead.
Once Stephen was aware, and made peace with this truth, he was able to replace the need for perfection with a more realistic perspective of himself, and the beer was no longer a crutch. If we just tell Stephen “stop drinking”, we are missing the REASON for the drinking, and healing will be temporary if not nonexistent. Another piece of the puzzle is that addicts often have a lack of connection to people that provide the right level of support. Stephen says that he never learned to manage stress from his family and was told to “suck it up” by his very strict and distant father. Once Stephen was able to find a supportive group of people in his life, this helped significantly in his recovery. Healing can happen- it is not easy or fast- but it is possible! “No” is a Complete Sentence by Jaime Bessko
I know how hard it is to tell strangers “NO” when they ask to pet an adorable puppy. But, it is your job to advocate for your puppy’s personal space, especially if they are on leash. People hire me because they want to be able to bring their dog in public and have him be enjoyable on leash. They are sick of the big explosions, the pulling, the spinning, the jumping, the leash biting, the barking, and being pulling towards every attraction in the environment. They are deflated that their dog has zero interest in them when they’re outside because everything else is more interesting and rewarding. When we encourage or ALLOW tons of excited, overstimulated and aroused behaviors, we are teaching our puppies the very opposite of what we expect from our adult dogs. For all you new puppy owners out there, I encourage you to advocate for your dog’s space. This means that you have to get comfortable saying, “NO”. And by the way, “NO” is a complete sentence! Stop letting other dogs approach your dog while on leash. Stop letting excited people greet your dog. Don’t overwhelm your dog. When they cannot get space because they are on leash - they might submissively pee because they’re overwhelmed, or they might bite, or they might love the affection from strangers and now you have a dog that is pulling towards every dog and person and you are competing against these reinforcers in the environment. All of these scenarios are undesirable for adult dogs. Always think about how you want your adult dog to behave... and start setting those patterns and associations and laying the foundation for desirable behaviors now.
