Getting boating in Cuba back to the past Foretelling the future of recreational yachting in Cuba through its past, the commodore of Marina Hemingway in Havana, JosĂŠ Miguel Diaz Escrich, spoke to about 100 people at the Eden Roc in Miami Beach Thursday night. Talking through an interpreter, Escrich presented images beginning with sepia-toned shots of Club Nautico in 1884 through to aerial shots of marinas today, and explained how Cuba is making progress in its effort to get recreational boating back to how it used to be in his country.
Networking with a purpose Ever leave a “networking event having not met a single new person? That can’t happen tonight at Speed Meeting, a two-hour networking event created by Crew Unlimited that forces attendees to mingle. Speed Meeting begins at 5 p.m. at the U.S. Superyacht pavilion on Ramp 14. No need to RSVP. Just bring business cards.
Weather, or not The Yacht & Brokerage Show in Miami Beach opened to sunny skies but brisk temperatures yesterday. Hovering near 40 F (5 C), the cold morning was evident by steamy exhaust from generators, bundled crew members moving not-too-fast, and many mugs of coffee wrapped by cold fingers.
More cool stuff at the show As we work the show, we continue to bump into interesting people, companies and things that we think yachties should know about. Today, it’s a party, a raffle and an award.
