What started with my grandma’s homemade body scrub recipe, 50 jam jars, and a determination to help my mum pay the bills, has blossomed into one of the UK’s fastest-growing skincare companies* –and that’s all thanks to you, our amazing customers and Ambassadors
I’ve spent lots of this year reflecting and reminiscing on so many precious memories over the past two decades, but 2024 has also been a year of unforgettable firsts After regaining full ownership of Tropic, 2024 marked our first full year as a 100% family-owned business again. We’ve launched five gamechanging new products. Plus, in more personal news, I’m so excited to be welcoming my first baby in the autumn. I can’t wait to introduce her to the Tropic family!

Our Surrey Beauty Kitchen may be a little bigger than the makeshift production line I started on my mum’s kitchen table back in 2004, but we're proud to say our values haven’t changed. Our Story
From humble beginnings to the Tropic of today, take a look at our journey so far…
EARLY INSPIRATIONS
Susie was born in the vibrant city of Shanghai, China, before moving to Cairns, Australia aged six. Susie was in awe of the lush tropical landscapes around her, and loved spending time with her grandma, a medicinal chemist and toxicologist, who taught her about the importance of feeding her body and skin with nature’s freshest, most nutritious ingredients
TROPIC BEGINNINGS
2002
After relocating to London, Susie and her mum struggled to make ends meet. Determined to help pay the bills, Susie started recreating the homemade body scrub recipe her grandma used to soothe her mosquito bites back in Cairns. She folded golden jojoba and macadamia oils with exfoliating sea salts and a fragrant blend of lemon myrtle, bergamot and eucalyptus essential oils, and Tropic’s founding product was born
2005 – 2010
THE FIRST RANGE
Susie continued to study full-time while using her evenings and weekends to formulate new recipes and sell them across London.
2011 GREENER BEAUTY
Aged just 21, Susie appeared on BBC’s The Apprentice – she was the youngest-ever candidate at the time.
Despite finishing in third place, Lord Sugar saw Tropic's huge potential and decided to invest.
With this investment, we were finally able to open our very first Tropic HQ
2004
SUCCESS IN A JAM JAR
Using her mum’s kitchen table as a makeshift factory, Susie poured her body scrub recipe into 50 recycled jam jars
Then, aged just fifteen, she headed to her stall at Greenwich Market and sold out on her very first day
2013 OUR FOUNDING AMBASSADORS
On 4th May 2013, we maintained the magic of the market stall's personal touch by launching our social selling platform with 400 founding Ambassadors, including our very first, Gill (pictured).
2018 – 2022 A FORCE FOR GOOD
• In 2018 we became a certified CarbonNeutral® company and scored 100/100 on the Good Shopping Guide’s Ethical Accreditation Index
• During the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, we opened our very first UWS school in Cambodia and donated 50,000 bottles of hand sanitiser to hospitals across the UK.
• In 2021, The Sunday Times Fast Track 100 recognised Tropic as the UK’s fastest-growing skincare brand for five years running
• 2021 also saw us become Made in Britain certified, partner with Reef Restoration Foundation and introduce Provenance® to our website to maximise transparency.
• In 2022, we upgraded our core skincare products and achieved COSMOS-certified organic status for many of them.
• We also made our boldest commitment yet, pledging 10% of our profits to charities and good causes around the world.
