An oasis set amongst the jewel of the East Devon coast which is Sidmouth. The 'Harbour' provides chic and luxurious accommodation with beautiful views and excellent amenities. The recent investment by the Harbour Hotels group into what was formerly the Westcliff Hotel has brought a much needed injection, bringing the hotel bang up-to-date with not just a total rebuild of the hotel, but increased room capacity. To say they've made a great job

of the rebuild would be an understatement, it's now a chic, modern, luxurious and spacious hotel with superb facilities including indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a spa / gymnasium and sophisticated lounge and dining areas that are elevated to allow glorious views of the

bay. What's equally great if you're visiting Sidmouth, is the position of the hotel which is directly opposite Connaught Gardens and Jacobs Ladder, meaning that your walks straight out of the hotel are superb. It's vitally important on many levels that the hotels within Devon come up to a high standard, that way visitors will be more tempted to return if they've had a great experience. What's equally important is that we have enough hotel capacity to cater

for those looking to stay in Devon, so it has been great to see how this hotel's been transformed beyond all recognition to provide first class accommodation for visitors. On arrival at the hotel, you can't help but be impressed by the spacious and modern reception area, and walking through to the combined lounge/bar/dining area you're treated to what I consider to be one of the most elegant dining spaces in Devon in which to relax (see above).

pool/garden area and the bay. Dining at the Harbour's Upper Deck Bar & Restaurant is a most pleasurable experience having great ambiance, panoramic views and excellent food, complemented with a comprehensive selection of wines. The menu provided a good range of dishes prepared from carefully chosen local produce and incorporating plenty of fish based options, which is what you'd wish to see considering the hotel's coastal aspect. All fish options tasted (see photos at bottom) were excellent, as indeed were all the dishes sampled from the restaurant. The bedroom provided was well-appointed, and because of the Hotel's very recent redevelopment, everything within the room was newly commissioned. The en-suite bathroom was modern, stylish and well designed and within the Sidmouth Harbour Hotel is beautifully positioned to enjoy Sidmouth bedroom all mod cons were straight out of the front door. Of course it helps considerably when your a large balcony, affording superb views across the room enjoys excellent sea views.

In terms of visiting Sidmouth, it's important to tell you that if you've briefly driven round Sidmouth in the past, you've probably missed much of what the town has to offer and to rectify this we've included a feature on Sidmouth complete with a map of the town (overleaf ), so you don't miss the best bits. If you're visiting from another part of Devon, or even from further afield, you will not be disappointed with your stay at the Sidmouth Harbour Hotel, it provides an excellent package of luxurious accommodation, dining and leisure facilities, also having great amenity from which you can enjoy Sidmouth. Top marks to the team at the Sidmouth Harbour, it's highly commended. Editor
