Raoul Dufy left a lasting impression. Ian worked as an architect until the late 1980's when he turned to painting full-time. Basilius Besler THE MOST celebrated florilegium ever published - the Hortus Eystettensis - is the record of the gardens of the Prince Bishop of Eichstatt. The gardens were completed by Basilius Besler: a pharmacist renowned for his own, smaller garden in Nuremburg. One of the earliest records of flowers from a specific documented garden, the work is exceptional in every sense, from the variety and range of flowers - over 1, 000 wild and cultivated species from Europe, Africa and the New World - to the quality of the 366 copperplate engravings. The gardens, along with most of the town of Eichstatt, were destroyed by the invading Swedish troops led by Herzog von Weimer in 1633 during the Thirty Years War.

Meridith Martens FROM HER first art commission in high school, Meridith Martens has had a lifelong passion for putting the world around her on canvas and paper. She is equally comfortable with realism and abstract and the infinite range of expression between them. Meridith Martens was born in Illinois, and her Navy family eventually settled in Annapolis where she combined her love of horses with her artistic talent and a gifted painter of horses emerged. She attended the New School in New York, the Corcoran in Washington and studied under Volang in Paris. As she grew, her work evolved and portraits and abstracts shared her passion. Meridith's painting of the World Trade Center, created just days after September 11, travelled the world for two years with the True Colors exhibit, an artists' response to the tragic events of that day. She now lives in North Carolina and continues to enhance her portfolio with a blend of animal portraits, expressive abstracts and corporate commissions. She has recently completed illustrating a children's Christmas book and is working on commissioned paintings.

TROWBRIDGE | Lyndi Sales

Lyndi Sales ANYONE WHO has admired the delicate intricacy of her work, will understand why South African Lyndi Sales is TROWBRIDGE's best-selling artist. She's renowned world-wide for her thought-provoking multidimensional works in paper and her installations featuring birds and animals. For her collaboration with TROWBRIDGE, however, Lyndi has drawn inspiration from a long-held fascination with early 17th century botanical engravings, works that she first encountered when studying for her Master's degree at the University of Cape Town.

Each picture is embossed with Lyndi Sale's stamp and then signed by her

"I found so much beauty in the engravings of those early 17th century botanical artists pioneers such as Basilius Besler, who nurtured, catalogued and painted new species of plants in such meticulous detail. I really appreciated the way in which the works are able to be both complex and simply descriptive at one and the same time."

When it came to creating her own engravings in a style that paid homage to those earlier artists, Lyndi felt that the paper she used should be just as key as the images themselves. "Continuing the natural, antique theme, I decided to use hand-made paper. "I'm fortunate in that I am able to source this from a paper mill just a few miles from my studio. It's made from reeds from the Black River and has a wonderful subtle colour and texture." The etchings are produced with a sharp etching needle onto copper-plate; the more detailed the image, the longer it will take to produce - the tree images Lyndi produces for TROWBRIDGE, for instance, are particularly labour-intensive. A number of resists, including wax and a ground substance called rosin, can be applied to mask areas of the plate before it is submerged in an acid bath.

The acid bites into the copper and thereby creates different types of tone and finish.

Ankasa Ferns THIS STUNNING collection of hand-embroidered framed textiles has been designed by Ankasa exclusively for TROWBRIDGE. This set of four ferns can be adapted to create a number of different configurations, with the intricate design hand-embroidered onto Tiffany blue linen. Ankasa'a collaboration with TROWBRIDGE began in January 2008 with the launch of designs inspired by the natural world - this collection of eight intricate beaded textiles became instant best sellers. The blue version of the design, featured on Carrie Bradshaw's bedroom wall, in the film Sex and the City 2.
