Nicola Bonney | Abstract Elements

The kitsch, almost 1950s colour scheme in these shapes are the secret to the set’s success. Black lines swoop around pinks, yellows and a wealth of different greys. There are hints of Picasso’s work in the forms cast by the seemingly abstract lines too, and the overall effect is playful, fun and more than a little suggestive.

Artist Nicola Bonney is inspired by beautiful landscapes as well as abstract forms and colour. Each of her paintings are a careful composition of layered brushstrokes and hues to achieve something finely balanced in shape and depth.

Simple and colourful stacks of squares and rectangles make up this bright pair, helping them become a welcome splash of colour. The use of some shading has enabled the stack to appear set on top of the pale, sky blue backing, coming out from the surround like small raised blocks. The cubic and uncomplicated finish is clean and airy.

Ryan Greening | Concrete Abstracts

Geometric Abstraction This fantastic abstract piece simply bursts with life. The vibrancy of the hot oranges are harmoniously tempered by cool blue shards, and creamy-greys of wonderful brushstroke textures play with light to create a sense of depth. Meanwhile, a dark stroke line dances unpredictably between these elements. The strong character of this piece is perfectly elevated by the subtle tones of the carefully selected frames available, a muted silver shine or smooth soft white.

These pieces expertly use the similarity of form and shape to amalgamate both warm and cool tones together in one beautiful collection. By using uneven thickness of stroke in straight interconnected lines, these minimalist abstracts capture the essence of urban structure in an almost organic way. The rough layered texture gives real depth while the darker lines keep your eyes moving along the pathways they draw. These images of Chicago, capture the windy city beautifully. A mixture of photographs, abstract shapes and more sketch-based lines, the nine works are playful with colour too. Iconic buildings lay over one another while pink skies appear normal, acting as backdrops to turquoise tower blocks. In other pieces bold reds dominate, and yellows jump out at the viewer, while the buildings of Chicago form the works’ heart.

Sumptuous purples curve around tropical blues, while here and there bursts of bright green conjure the natural world. They look like they could dance out of the frames.

Alice Adams Artistic Trails series could come from right under a psychedelic microscope. Blue, yellow and white tracks wiggle their way across the four pieces, with different tones dominant in each. Against a background of light cream, there is movement aplenty. Four similar, but also somehow distinctly different artworks.

The straight lines and retro colours in artist Charlotte Morgan’s geometric collection are evocative of a different era. They conjure old maps, vintage symbols and even classic transportation.

It’s the interaction between the different shapes that make these pieces sing. Artist Ryan Greening has cleverly deployed squares, circles and triangles in the four pieces. The colours are subtly toned down to allow a sense of space to develop, while a grainy effect adds to the playful mood.

Alice Adams | Minimalist Still Life

Alice Adams | Natural Forms

This set of still life pictures from artist Alice Adams look similar to each other at first. But closer inspection reveals them to have a character and style unique to each plant. The vases too, are different in each picture - with round white porcelain mirroring the red berries of one, while a taller, simpler container sits beneath bold red hanging blossoms. They have a clever coherence, and look stunning displayed both as a set and individual works.

While this new collection of over 20 works by artist Alice Adams takes many of the geometrical wonders of the natural world as an influence, there’s also a deftness of artistic touch when it comes to autumnal colour. Each works as a standalone piece, but grouped together the evocative works are exceptionally powerful. Be it the petals, leaves, ferns or blossoms, these pieces have a calm majesty all of their own.

Charlotte Morgan | Blue Abstracts Bright, bold and blue, the set of four highly effective designs are an abstract and modern collection. The designs were fabricated using traditional screen-printing to layer the shapes and colours. Abstract Love Steeped in meaning, these ink oval rings interlinking together artfully represent the feeling of love. The simplicity of the shapes forming multiple hearts, followed by the sense of passion and motion created by the ink splattering, gives life to the feeling of two people falling in love. With each person represented by a ring, this concept works on multiple levels and evolves to reveal a deeper sense of connection by showing the shapes overlapping with uneven density and thickness.

A heady mixture of texture, tone and line, the pieces have been made by employing a intaglio printing technique to achieve an impressive end result. There’s a charcoal-like, hand sketched feel to the works, and the variation in tone, from deep black to feathery brushed greys, is amazing.
