This summer we’re excited to see campers take full advantage of our new fully accessible high ropes course, try out our shooting sports activities and ranges, and explore our local communities on day trips alongside our classic camp elements such as tubing, arts and crafts, and endless hours on the waterfront. Our high quality, compassionate and energetic staff members provide the utmost attention and care, creating a fun, safe and truly transformational environment for all involved. A Note from OUR DIRECTOR Thank you for your interest in our camping programs! We are humbled by the opportunity to provide life-changing experiences to everyone who joins the adventures at our camps. True Friends has a reputable 60+ year legacy in providing the highest quality of care and programs to individuals with disabilities. Today, we’re privileged to be Minnesota’s largest special needs camping agency. With this in mind, we were faced with making a difficult decision, regarding our transportation program, to ensure we don’t lose focus on our core mission and strengths. In 2013, True Friends created a pilot program to offer transportation for campers from the Twin Cities to our four locations for all summer camps. After receiving extensive feedback from caregivers, campers, and staff, we made the decision to reduce the number of programs for which we offer transportation. The programs for which transportation will be offered in 2017 have a “T” included after the session number in the program grids in this catalog. As before, transportation numbers will be limited per session. In 2014, we chose to apply for and maintain a State Statute 245D license through the Department of Human Services (DHS). In September 2016 there had been communication from True Friends stating our intentions to no longer operate as a licensed 245D program due to increased regulations. Since the time of this communication we continue to see firsthand the need for respite services in Minnesota and have decided to continue our relationship and licensure with the DHS. This means True Friends will be able to continue to receive payment from 245D licensed waivers and Consumer Directed Community Supports (CDCS). This includes, but is not limited to, the following waivers: CADI (Community Access for Disability Inclusion), CAC (Community Alternative Care), DD (Developmental Disabilities), and TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury). Thank you for your patience with True Friends as we continue to assess our position in the respite community and how we can craft programs to continue meeting community needs and staying true to one of our founding principles; to providing respite care services. Keeping these changes in mind, get excited and start looking at those summer calendars! Online registration for 2017 camping programs will open in the first week of January 2017. As we move into a fun-filled summer season, we trust that these decisions will strengthen our services to our valued clients. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we look back with courage, while moving forward with joy and spirit. In Friendship,

Conor S. McGrath, MPA

Camp activities include: swimming, kayaking, canoeing, hiking in Itasca State Park, arts and crafts, nature experiences, recreational games, live action role play (LARPing) and more.
