THE HIT MUSICAL SHOW
STARRING GARY WILMOT & SARA CROWE MUSIC BY NOEL GAY Gary Wilmot (Chicago, Me and My Girl) and Olivier Award winner Sara Crowe (Private Lives, Four Weddings and a Funeral) lead a cast of fifteen from the acclaimed Tony award-winning Watermill Theatre in this gloriously funny musical comedy. In the heart of London’s Blitz-torn West End, the cast of BBC’s light-entertainment radio show, Variety Bandwagon are doing their bit for the war effort. But with the bombs falling outside, can star of the show, Sammy Shaw, hang on to his leading lady and broadcast live to America for the first time? Chock-full of quick-fire gags, side-splitting routines and classic songs from one of our ‘best of British’ musical talents, Noel Gay (Me and My Girl), Radio Times features forties’ favourites such as Run Rabbit Run, Hey Little Hen, My Thanks To You and There’s Something About a Soldier.

‘Where there’s muck there’s brass’… this hysterically funny tale of misdeeds, misadventure and mistaken identity has plenty of both. In a small Pennine town a flashy young stranger is mistaken for the Government Inspector. The town’s unscrupulous Councillors, fearing discovery of their corrupt goings-on, do all they can to ingratiate themselves. Bribes, backhanders and brown envelopes abound and the stranger, who has an eye for a quick buck, takes full advantage with hilarious results. The Last of The Lake blends bold physical staging with audio-visual design allowing a rich and heady world of birds, mermaids and ritual to burst into life. “In distant desert villages where water is sparse young girls can either accept what fate has given them or fight against it. She turned into a mermaid.” The very last of the life-giving lake is about to run out. The village just hopes their saviours don’t run out on them. This new play from acclaimed young company Rough Fiction brings
the technicolour and extravagant world of magical realism to life as two girls, twinned by birth and by prophesy, engage in an epic, healing and emotionally-testing journey to the sea. DANNY BHOY – DEAR EPSON
LEE NELSON – LIVE!
Following sensational performances on The Late Show with David Letterman and Live at the Apollo, smash hit tours of Australia, New Zealand and North America, one of Scotland’s biggest comedy exports, Danny Bhoy, brings his internationally renowned Gaelic charm back to UK theatres. In a slight departure from his traditional stand up, this show revolves around a handful of ‘feedback’ letters Danny penned out of frustration. It is a show about all those little annoyances – too frivolous to be a cause, too inconsequential to be a campaign, but
Star of the BBC’s Live at the Apollo and the smash-hit comedy Lee Nelson’s Well Good Show comes to Winchester for an evening of uproarious stand-up. “The hottest creation since Ali G
just about right for a stand-up with too much time on his hands. Danny commented, “A few years back, I launched a campaign (wrote some letters) which successfully saw the return of Roast Beef Monster Munch to our supermarket shelves. You’re welcome. This is a looselybased stand up which revolves around some similarly heroic work.”

The Importance of Being Earnest
“To lose one parent, Mr Worthing, may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose both looks like carelessness.” Jack is in love with Gwendolen. Algernon is in love with Cecily. But when an identity crisis spirals out of control, the previously separate worlds of town and country collide and delicious mayhem ensues. Thoughts of marriage and a happy ending must be put on hold until the inimitable Lady Bracknell can be convinced that the young men are worthy suitors. Wonderful characters, sparkling dialogue, gloriously improbable plot twists and a sprinkling of romance – The Importance of Being Earnest has it all. London Classic Theatre promises to bring this 19th Century classic to vivid, extravagant life with customary flair, attention to detail, high-quality casting and impeccable production values. Jason and his crew must sail on The Argo to the other side of the world to find the Golden Fleece and bring it back in order to unite the people again. PRESENTED BY PILOT THEATRE AND YORK THEATRE ROYAL By Alan Sillitoe Stage Adaptation by Roy Williams Directed by Marcus Romer Designed by Lydia Denno Lighting Design by Mark Beasley Soundscape by Sandy Nuttgens Visual Designs by KMA
1.00PM
A long distance race in real time. We follow one runner, alone with his thoughts, becoming part of his journey as his steady running rhythm transports him over a harsh, frost bitten earth. Colin Smith is defiant. A young rebel inhabiting the no man’s land of detention centres and young offenders institutes. Why, for whom and for what is he running? Adapted by BAFTA winning and Olivier Award nominated playwright Roy Williams (Sucker Punch, Fallout, Sing Yer Heart Out For The Lads), this gritty adaptation of Alan Sillitoe’s classic text hits the ground running; unlocking the biting realism of the original book while placing the drama firmly in a contemporary frame. Working with patron Roy Williams, award winning company Pilot Theatre brings this searing text of class and the criminal justice system to the stage. This stunning new production, set in Britain’s Olympic Year 2012, exposes the beating heart of a nation, still broken and still divided across class lines. A member of Brassey Road Studios, her work is bright, bold and expressive.
MONDAY 5 NOVEMBER – FRIDAY 7 DECEMBER
From 1959–1969 Sarah’s late grandparents were based in Singapore and Malaysia as part of a British Army posting – a vibrant time to be in the Far East. This new body of work created especially for this exhibition at Theatre Royal Winchester features contemporary designs inspired by family stories and memories, the original photographs and personal artefacts from the time.
