NBS, the global construction information platform, and Vectorworks a leading Building Information Modelling (BIM) software solution provider, have partnered to develop a plug-in to enable direct linkage with NBS Chorus.
NBS Chorus is the cloud-based specification platform, allowing architects, designers and engineers to create specifications for projects. This direct link with Vectorworks design software will enable users to create their project model and specification together seamlessly in the Vectorworks environment.
The integration reduces the risk of project information becoming incorrect or out of date from users developing the specification and drawing on separate documents. It also improves productivity by linking the information modelled within Vectorworks to the information contained in NBS’ specification software.
Any information changed in NBS Chorus will automatically be updated in the model, ensuring accurate and up-to-date specification information is accessible at all times for the project team.
Stephen Hamil, Innovation Director at NBS, said: “Good information management must include a robust workflow with respect to coordinating information that is published on drawings, schedules and specifications. The NBS plugin for Vectorworks now provides this.
“Our joint customers can now use a 3D modelling environment to coordinate their objects in Vectorworks with the relevant specification clauses in NBS Chorus. This allows for accurate annotation and cross referencing across all drawings and schedules.

Hunter Douglas Architectural scored a full house when it supplied a solid wood grill for the new £7m offices of online bingo company Tombola Ltd. Designed by Ryder Architecture, the new building reflects the design of the original warehouses.
Hunter Douglas Architectural was specified to supply more than 850m2 of solid wood grill ceiling in American white oak for the underside of the roof. An internal roof lining was also added to provide warmth to the interior space. The complex design meant the grill panels followed the triple roof pitch and the roof windows, the installation team had to work around many services within the roof space. Lines of uninterrupted lighting were also incorporated.

CUPA PIZARRAS’ Heavy 3 slate has been selected to deliver the traditional look of Scottish slate for the redevelopment and extension of the historic Kingshouse Hotel in the Glencoe area of the Scottish Highlands. CUPA PIZARRAS’ Heavy 3 slate was chosen for its close resemblance to the traditional Ballachulish slate, which was produced locally between 1693 and 1955 and was used on the roof of the original Kingshouse. The dark grey, seven to eight millimetre thick CUPA PIZARRAS Heavy 3 slates closely replicate the colour and thickness of the original Scottish slates, as well as the characteristic pyrite crystals often visible on the surface. The slate was also continued into the cladding.

VELUX keeps
The iconic Strawberry Field site in Woolton Liverpool, immortalised by John Lennon in the Beatles hit “Strawberry Field Forever”, had been gifted to The Salvation Army but the site had lain derelict for the last 15 years. Hoskins Architects, in partnership with Robertson Construction North West, designed the building to maximise the views and the physical connections to the mature “park” setting.
Fundamental to the design of the centre were two requirements: to create a bright, natural ambience throughout. Forty-two VELUX Longlights have been installed as part of an innovative lighting and ventilation strategy. The VELUX Modular Skylight meets the centre’s lighting and ventilation specification.

Resiblock, and their ‘Legendary’ Resiblock ‘22’, have been specified for Sealing Works for over 1,600m² of Concrete Block Paving at the new Rainbow Lane development in Peasey Hills, Malton, North Yorkshire. Resiblock ‘22’ is to be used to prevent Paver Destabilisation associated with sand loss from vehicular trafficking. The sealer will also prevent sand loss through cleaning regimes such as road sweepers. Resiblock were able to call upon previous examples of Resiblock ‘22’ being specified for this use, following success at Alexandra Meadows in Lymington, Hampshire and both Mersey Way and The Greenway in Didcot, Oxfordshire.

When a luxury housing complex in the heart of London required a unique bespoke mirror cladding system for its pool area, Gx Glass was specified to supply a costeffective and visually striking solution. A series of stunning balconies finished in gold have added a touch of luxury to the recently completed “Residence” project, part of the Vauxhall Nine Elms regeneration plan in South London.

On entering the 2019 renovation of the headquarters of insurance company CMMA, in Châlons-en-Champagne, a majestic staircase made of natural oak and HI-MACS® captures the eye, like a sculpture. A recent report by the Greater London Authority highlights the damage caused by vehicle pollution in road and surface water drainage to our rivers and streams. Concrete block permeable paving offers the obvious starting point to address this growing problem.

No less than eight different solid wood floors from Junckers were used as part of the spectacular design for US company Slack’s new. Installed as both flooring and wall panelling, various timbers, colours and finishes were used to tell the interior story. Taking inspiration from the company CEO’s passion for the outdoors, architects Studio O+A used the Pacific Crest Trail as the basis for their design. The Northern General Hospital in Sheffield chose Yeoman Shield fire rated door protection systems to refurbish doors in the Radiology Department. An installation to the Indoor Cricket Pavilion at Lords Cricket Ground was the result of some two years of design study and consideration to correct gutter deflections and broken gutter joints in the fully welded aluminium gutters.
The broken gutter joints were the result of thermal expansion and contraction and were causing leaks into the building. The deflections in each of the four valley gutters and two outboard gutters resulted in standing water up to 60mm deep within the first 20 metres of the building.
Unifold® was chosen to correct the deflections using cut to falls insulation to provide positive falls of 1:200 in the problem areas. This resulted in the need for a new front Unifold gutter which was installed within the canopy at the front of the building and this was discharged to new drains via siphonic outlets and pipework systems.
The work was achieved with acceptable aesthetic conformity and has been fully water tested.

New Protect A1 T3 Plus is a heavy-duty type HR roofing underlay designed for all cold and warm pitched roofs on new build developments and re-roofing schemes. This four ply underlay now has a weight of 190gsm of high quality non-woven spunbond with an absorbent undersurface to prevent condensate drip off and is completely air and water tight. This helps to ensure the product can provide a secondary line of defence to wind driven rain and snow.
Sika Sarnafil’s single ply roofing membrane has been installed on the UK’s first dedicated centre for stroke and dementia research at the University of Oxford. Sarnafil G410 12 ELF in Lead Grey along with Sarnavap HD were chosen to weathertight the concrete slab room. Due to an uneven and rough surface, a system had to be specified that would overcome this problem. Roofing contractor Vertec liaised with Sika Sarnafil and opted to mechanically fix the single ply to overcome this. Further challenges were found due to the multiple penetrations in the roof. Opting to box them in, all penetrations were successfully sealed thanks to Vertec’s Sika Sarnafil-trained installers.
