The new Building Safety Bill will create lasting generational change and set out a clear pathway for the future on how residential buildings should be constructed and maintained, the Government has claimed.
Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick has outlined the next key step in an extensive overhaul to building safety legislation, giving residents more power to hold builders and developers to account and toughening sanctions against those who threaten their safety.
The Building Safety Regulator will oversee the new regime and will be responsible for ensuring that any building safety risks in new and existing high rise residential buildings of 18m and above are e ectively managed and resolved, taking cost into account.
This will include implementing specific gateway points at design, construction and completion phases to ensure that safety is considered at each and every stage of a building’s construction, and safety risks are considered at the earliest stage of the planning process.
These changes will simplify the existing system to ensure high standards are continuously met, with a ‘golden thread’ of information created, stored and updated throughout the building’s lifecycle, establishing clear obligations on owners and enabling swift action to be taken by the regulator, wherever necessary.
Housing Secretary Rt Hon Robert Jenrick MP said: “This Bill will ensure high standards of safety for people’s homes, and in particular for high rise buildings, with a new regulator providing essential oversight at every stage of a building’s lifecycle, from design, construction, completion to occupation.
“The new building safety regime will be a proportionate one, ensuring those buildings requiring remediation are brought to an acceptable standard of safety swiftly, and reassuring the vast majority of residents and leaseholders in those buildings that their homes are safe.”
The reforms will tackle bad practice head on, building on Dame Judith Hackitt’s review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety, which highlighted a need for significant cultural and regulatory change.

The patented new Ancon Thermal Windpost (TWP2) from Leviat has been designed to minimise thermal bridging in masonry cavity walls, offering up to an impressive 70% reduction in thermal transmission through the span of the windpost. Featuring integral mineral fibre insulation to ensure continuity of insulation in the cavity, the innovative design means the windpost sits level with the outside face of partial fill insulation so it can be taped to further reduce thermal heat loss. This provides the additional benefit of eliminating time-consuming cutting of insulation to fit behind/around the windpost, increasing the overall speed and consistency of installation.

Introducing the First LPS1175 on the market with a 3-wing turnstile!
A busy year of Research & Development continues for Frontier Pitts with the introduction of our latest LPS1175 Intruder Resistant product.
Following the release of our Platinum LPS1175 Turnstile with 4 wings in December 2019, our customers asked us to develop a security rated 3 wing turnstile.
Achieving the renowned LPCB Security Rating on a four-wing turnstile is tough enough, but Frontier Pitts pushed through the boundaries to achieve the Security Rating on a three-wing turnstile and provide the customer with exactly the turnstile they wanted.
Frontier Pitts worked closely with LPCB during the lockdown months to ensure our R&D program continued to produce products to meet our clients’ requirements.
Now the LPS1175 Platinum Turnstile, like many other standard pedestrian control Turnstiles, has the option the 3 wing (120° rotor) or 4 wing (90° rotor). A first for the LPCB LPS1175 market!
This is the ideal pedestrian control solution for high security sites such as CNI sites (Critical National Infrastructure) datacentres, logistic hubs and pharmaceutical manufacturing sites. The Platinum Turnstiles join Frontier Pitts other Security Rated Turnstile the Terra Diamond Turnstile which is LPS1175 to security ratings 3 & 4, and approved for Government use, please contact CPNI.

6th July 2021 – Mitsubishi Electric has launched a new commercial ventilation product to help improve indoor air quality in a multitude of situations including schools, restaurants, offices, shops, hotels and factories.
The LGH-RVS-E – which is suitable for installation in high humidity environments, is the latest product in the Lossnay range of commercial ventilation systems. It is specifically designed to simultaneously extract stale air from a building and provide a supply of fresh, filtered air. While doing this, the units simultaneously recover valuable heat energy for maximum efficiency.
As air quality within our buildings becomes an increasingly important focus, this new unit offers an efficient ventilation solution for a wider variety of environments. It is designed with a plastic heat exchanger rather than paper, and is also ideal for humid locations like bathrooms and wet rooms.
The LGH-RVS-E is also able to help address the full range of cooling and ventilation needs for spaces like offices and schools. The units are simple to interlock with Mitsubishi Electric’s Mr Slim and City Multi air conditioning systems, and easy installation makes it a perfect solution for those installing or specifying a ventilation for the first time.
Mitsubishi Electric’s Ventilation Product Manager, Hern Yau said “We’ve designed this unit to match the demand for improved indoor air, and this new Lossnay unit offers a solution that includes humid spaces and integrates easily with existing air conditioning systems”.
The LGH-RVS-E comes with a new generation of controls, with more flexible commissioning and two plug-and-play CO2 sensors.
With air quality an increasing concern, being able to see a simple traffic light system of CO2 levels can offer greater assurance and awareness for building occupants, and meet safety requirements – particularly for schools. The CO2 sensor can also help reduce installation costs, by taking its power from the fan unit rather than needing a separate power supply.
The units can also be integrated with Mitsubishi Electric’s AE200E central control to offer touch-screen control of products, along with advanced features like energy monitoring and automated reporting.
Further details be found on the company’s website: https:// les.mitsubishielectric.co.uk/products/ventilation/ commercial-lossnay/commercial-lossnay-series
New Unity A1 Floor to Floor framing system – fully tested to CWCT standards
Non-combustible cladding manufacturer Metalline, has developed a new Floor to Floor framing system which has recently been successfully tested to CWCT standards at the Vinci Technology Centre in Leighton Buzzard.
The Unity A1 F2F system has been designed to accommodate, flat, discrete-fix and hook-on rainscreen panels and is fully compliant with all types of A1 and A2 façade panels including aluminium, fibre cement and terracotta.
Metalline’s Unity A1 F2F framing spans from floor slab to floor slab, reducing the requirement for multiple helping hand brackets and supporting top hats. This saves considerable time and money on installation costs, simplifies the design process, allows for greater adjustment and reduces the requirement for fixings and brackets by up to 90%.
The system also features a unique ball and socket design that allows for up to 30 degrees rotation to the front face of the rail. This feature is ideal for high-rise developments and the replacement of non-compliant cladding systems on buildings where the main structure
is often out of plumb. The extra adjustability and precise alignment of replacement panels allows for a seamless finish and a flat crisp appearance to the building’s new compliant façade.

A number of pre-existing farm structures have been reconstructed using CUPA PIZARRAS Heavy 3 slate in order to house a new Scottish whisky distillery, Ardross. CUPA PIZARRAS Heavy 3 slate was specified for use on the project in conjunction with the architect’s design, as it was an ideal match characteristically to the Ballachulish slate used on the original farm buildings. Not only is Heavy 3 visibly similar to traditional Scottish Ballachulish, it is the perfect strength to withstand extreme Scottish weather. Aesthetically, it is a blue black in colour with a slight gritty texture and it also features welldefined parallel lines that are visible on the cleavage surfaces.

A classic Parisian apartment is benefitting from the thermal effectiveness of the ultra-thin Spacetherm® WL insulation. Property owner Keirnan Murphy has made a significant investment in the renovation of the apartment to improve overall comfort, energy efficiency and to reduce heating costs. The Spacetherm WL aerogel insulation from the A. Proctor Group was a perfect choice for the apartment. At just 13mm thickness, the Spacetherm WL fits inside the lip of our cornices, which average about 20mm. Typically the walls of these older properties are not completely flat and so the option of an ultra-thin insulation was critical. Spacetherm WL consists of Spacetherm aerogel insulation blanket bonded to 3mm Magnesium Board.

By combining cement with wooden board, Hunter Douglas Architectural has created an architectural “best of both worlds”.
Concrete Veneer is a new and innovative product that brings together a perforated core plate and a finely perforated 1.5 mm cement top layer.
It looks exactly like a conventional concrete product, but the perforated panels provide acoustic absorption to aw 0.50, NRC 0.65
and SAA 0.64. The nano-perforations are microscopic perforations at Ø 0.5mm, which enable high acoustic performance without compromising the aesthetic quality.
Concrete Veneer is also relatively lightweight, with the perforated panels weighing only 12 kg/m2 and the non-perforated version weighing 15 kg/m2, and easy to fix.
It is available in five different colours: from natural white to dark graphite. Suite 2, Newton House, Northampton Science Park, Kings Park Road, Moulton Park Ind. Est., Northampton, NN3 6LG T: 01604 648229 E: info@hunterdouglas.co.uk

Rundum Meir façade doors uniquely reflect Manchester landmark’s heritage
A bronze façade featuring bespoke Rundum Meir garage doors for two new townhouses in central Manchester has been uniquely designed to reflect the architecture of the nearby John Rylands Library, one of the city’s most famous neo-Gothic buildings.
The duo of four storey, high specification private dwellings designed by Snook Architects for regeneration specialist Watch This Space have given new purpose to an unused site nestling between two postindustrial buildings close to Deansgate. Their full height bronze façade delivers a striking external appearance that takes a distinctive visual cue from the library opposite.
The aluminium façade of both townhouses features laser cut and acid-etched lacy blind tracery patterns that match those in the windows of the library, a late Victorian neoGothic building which opened in 1900 and is now part of the University of Manchester.
The lacy pattern is used over the height of the façade, including the large folding/sliding shutters which balance privacy with natural light requirements for residents during the day,

whilst being eye-catching at night as internal light shines through the laser cut pattern.
This design also extends into the twin side sliding sectional garage doors manufactured and installed by Rundum Meir, which effectively deliver a sliding façade at street level. Working closely with Snook Architects, Rundum Meir’s designers were able to replicate the design with total consistency and manufacture in Germany using acid etching across the six aluminium sections.

Aico are pleased to announce the official Kitemark certification of their SmartLINK Gateway from the British Standards Institution (BSI).
Aico’s innovative SmartLINK Gateway provides access to real-time data insight into the status of the Smoke, Heat and Carbon Monoxide (CO) alarm systems across entire housing stock. Using its built-in GSM data connection, the Gateway utilises Aico’s next generation of wireless technology to report events including Fire/CO activations and alarm head removals as they happen to the SmartLINK cloud portal, for full visibility and remote monitoring.
The SmartLINK Gateway has achieved the BSI Kitemark for Internet of Things (IoT) Commercial, a multi-faceted Kitemark that examines the product and associated system and process in its entirety.
In the case of Aico’s Gateway, the BSI tested the connectivity and communications within the SmartLINK system, the associated mobile app and cloud portal, as well as the data encryption and security of the system.

A three-year, £24 million programme of works to repair and repaint the roof structure to Bristol Temple Meads railway station is featuring the use of the ZEUS Horizontal fire barrier system from TBA FIREFLYTM: employed to enclose a series of shallow arch scaffold beams or ‘cassettes’ that span the tracks, thereby protecting the workforce from any potential train fire as they use the access deck above. These cassettes were assembled and installed by Network Scaffolding, a specialist division of main contractor, Taziker, before being wrapped and fire-protected using the ZEUS Horizontal: offering significant logistical as well as cost advantages over alternative solutions. In total, 3,600m2 of the high performance and fully certificated system was supplied. Unit 3, Transpennine Trading Estate, Gorrells Way, Rochdale, OL11 2PX T: 01706 758817 E: sales@tbafirefly.com
