Industry bodies come together to sign EDI charter
Five industry bodies have come together to commit to better equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) outcomes in the landscape, horticulture, and arboriculture sectors.
Representatives from the Association of Professional Landscapers (APL), British Association of Landscape Industries, the Landscape Institute (LI), the Society of Garden Designers (SGD), have signed a joint declaration to work towards a more diverse and inclusive industry through the sharing of work and good practice. Following on from
BALI’s December 2021 Access
All Areas panel discussion, the charter commits signatories to:
• Monitoring and benchmarking EDI across the industry
• Educating and upskilling colleagues and members on EDI
• Promoting the industry as an inclusive and accessible environment with opportunities for lifelong rewarding careers for all
“As well a severe skills shortage in the natural environment sector, there’s a marked lack of diversity,” said LI Chief
Executive Sue Morgan. “To transform the world for the better, we must understand and represent the interests and experiences of all the communities we serve.
“As landscape professionals, our members operate in and connect both the built and natural environments. Much like the memorandum of understanding and subsequent action plan we co-signed with five of our fellow built environment bodies earlier this year, this cross-sector approach is exactly the sort of initiative we need to see to change things for the better. I’m delighted that we’re continuing
to make such positive progress, and look forward to working with our colleagues across all sectors to embed equity, diversity, and inclusion in both workplaces and
communities – built and natural –that are welcoming to all.”

Organisers claim visitor increase at SALTEX
Pre-pandemic confidence returned to SALTEX as organisers claimed nearly 15 percent more visitors attended the 2022 show.
Over 8,300 attendees from across the UK and over 50 countries streamed through the doors over the two-day event at Birimingham NEC, signaling a return to pre-pandemic levels.
Geoff Webb, CEO of The Grounds Management Association (GMA), the event organisers says: “As a not-for-
profit, everything we earn gets ploughed back into the industry through investment in resources and initiatives that benefi t the groundscare sector, so, with the 2022 show being such a hit, we look forward to beginning work on ensuring we build on this success and make the 2023 show even better for the sector.
“We look forward to welcoming everyone back at SALTEX from 01-02 November 2023.”

Updated standard for greenkeeping apprentices
The Greenkeepers Training Committee (GTC) has released information about a new qualifi cation that will provide golf greenkeepers and other sports turf apprentices with advanced knowledge as they work to produce exceptional playing surfaces
from grassroots through to professional levels.
The Level 3 Advanced Sports Turf Technician apprenticeship has been approved by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE) and is now available for delivery.
Sponsored by the Department of Education, IfATE is an employer-led organisation that supports employer groups in the development of worldleading apprenticeships and technical education systems. During 2020, IfATE undertook a review of apprenticeship
standards within associated industries.
The Advanced Golf Greenkeeper Apprenticeship had been approved for delivery in January 2020 but as a result of the review, the Greenkeeper Trailblazer and Sports Turf Trailblazer groups
were approached by IfATE to develop a Level 3 Standard and End-point Assessment Plan (EPA) that could sit across both disciplines.

As we come to the end of another interesting, challenging but ultimately promising and productive 12 months for the industry as a whole, there are several stand out features from 2022.
The first is the return of face-to-face meetings, conferences, exhibitions, product launches and demonstrations, networking events and even the odd social get-together. After the uncertainty and caution the pandemic understandably brought, the last 12 months have provided more opportunities for the industry to showcase one of the things it has always done best – come together to share best practice, talk, listen, discuss, debate and ultimately take significant step forwards.
Let us hope that 2023 provides yet more opportunities for this, starting in January with the return of BTME to its traditional place in the calendar and taking in a host of other established events as well as the new-look GroundsFest gathering in September. One of the other key elements of the last 12 months has been the continuing impact of technological advances on the industry. Battery-power is now firmly established in the handheld tool and equipment sectors, but this year saw more electric and hybrid technology being unveiled for larger machinery including ride-on mowers, UTVs and compact tractors.
Manufacturers are continuing to push the boundaries and invest heavily in Research & Development. This extends beyond the machinery and equipment sectors and includes every other product area that our industry utilises. From seed technology, to robotics, to plant health and nutrition, 2022 has seen a bumper crop of new product launches with more set to be unveiled early next year. It all helps create a buoyant industry, a worldleader that can be seen in the playing surfaces of the World Cup in Qatar and major landscaping projects around the world.
Everyone at TSP Media would like to thank you for your continued support in 2022 and we look

International quality standard re-accredited to the GMA
The Grounds Management Association (GMA) has been accredited to the matrix Standard once again.
The matrix Standard is the international quality standard for organisations that deliver independent information, advice and/or guidance (IAG), and is supported by The Department for Education.
The re-accreditation confirms formal recognition of the outcomes achieved by the GMA in delivering industrywide information, advice, and guidance, and further enhances the reputation of the GMA as an authoritative organisation within the grounds care industry.
This year-round continual process involves maintaining good relationships with stakeholders, engaging and developing learners, creating new supporting material and technical content for learners, providing regular feedback to stakeholders, routinely communicating to the industry the benefits of services provided by the GMA, and developing staff through training courses.
The independent assessment commented that the GMA
has “demonstrated an ongoing focus on strategic development, which has continued as a theme since their previous assessment up until the present,” and that it is an organisation that “clearly demonstrates its desire and passion to support the improvement of sports venues, public areas, and the personnel (volunteers and professionals) involved with maintaining them.”
Dan Prest, Head of Technical and Learning at the GMA said: “I am delighted that the GMA has been re-accredited to the matrix Standard.
“A lot of work has gone into achieving this accreditation. I must say a special thank you to the Technical and Learning team who have spent countless hours working on this project. The accreditation is extremely important to the GMA, as it allows us to benchmark ourselves against best practice, plus it provides confidence, especially for new and potential learners, that high-quality, impartial information, advice, and guidance is provided when dealing with the GMA.”

Skills shortage to impact supply chain
The UK body for garden businesses has warned of risks to the availability of supplies for home and professional gardeners, due to a worsening shortage of staff in the environmental horticulture sector. James Barnes, Chairman of the HTA
said ahead of a meeting the next generation of horticulturists in Edinburgh, that the event was taking place against the backdrop of a skills shortage that was first identified in 2019 – and which has only been exacerbated by Brexit and the pandemic.
A large proportion of the sector’s labour historically came from the European Union and many HTA members have indicated that they are already feeling the effects of the shortage. “Our sector has huge potential to contribute to UK growth through
green jobs,” he said. “If we are to reach that potential, industry and government must work collaboratively to find solutions to these challenges.”

Leading names sign up for GroundsFest 2023 as organisers reveal more details
The team behind GroundsFest 2023 have revealed more details the new-look industry show, including some of the exhibitors who have already signed up for the two-day event.
GroundsFest will be held at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire on 20 and 21 September 2023.
The event will feature outdoor demonstrations, indoor zones, free education, interactive workstations, machinery workshops, a wellbeing hub, a live music festival plus much more, is set to be the annual must-attend event for grounds staff, greenkeepers, landscapers, local authorities, estate managers and contractors.
We asked behind the event what progress has been made with the event since the initial launch in October:
1. Following the initial launch of GroundsFest what has been the overall industry reaction?
It has been a hugely positive start. We are receiving exhibitor enquires daily from a wide range of companies across a variety of different sectors within the industry.
Many are from brands most people would have heard of, but we are also being contacted by a lot of companies who haven’t exhibited at a trade show for several years.
We feel that the chance to demonstrate products, and our pricing, has been a big factor in this. From a visitor point of view, GroundsFest has really struck a chord.
We only launched the show six weeks ago and hundreds have already signed up to our visitor newsletter through the website. From greenkeepers to landscapers; groundspersons to local authorities, we’ve been really pleased to see so many different types of visitors interested in the event.
2. You have talked about redefining the show experience for visitors, can you explain a bit more how that will work?
We don’t want GroundsFest to be seen as just another show. Instead, we want it to be an event for the whole industry - an event where those in a management position can bring the whole team along with them.
As well as seeing products in action, there is going to be some great hands-on, interactive features.
For example, there will be live working stations where visitors can find out the latest trial data on pesticides, fertilisers, biostimulants and many more.
There will also be a service workshop where a leading expert will be on hand to tell you how to maintain and get the best out of your equipment.
GroundsFest will also provide accredited education seminars, a wellbeing hub – which will provide information, advice, and guidance about emotional and mental wellbeing; and of course, there will be live music
which will prove to be an excellent networking opportunity after the event.
3. Does this different approach also extend to exhibitors? What will be different for them at GroundsFest compared to other events?
GroundsFest is providing exhibitors with a blank page so to speak. It is their space, and they can use it however they choose to. We’ve heard of some brilliant, and creative ideas from many exhibitors already.
Whether exhibitors want to demonstrate a product, showcase new equipment, present findings from trial work or research, raise brand awareness or even host a barbecue on their stand – GroundsFest allows for so many possibilities.
Also, where many other industry events tend to wind down after lunchtime, GroundsFest will aim to keep visitors at the event for a longer period due to the live music which will be on stage.
This will allow visitors and exhibitors to unwind after the event, listen to some live music and tuck into the many wonderful street food stalls on site.
We are also looking at putting on travel for anyone wishing to stay later which will have drop off points at the local accommodation.
4. Are you in a position yet to reveal more details about which exhibitors have signed up for 2023?
Over 60% of the floorplan has already been reserved
which is incredible just six weeks into a launch event. We have a wide variety of exhibitors signed up including ICL, Turf Tank, Kress UK and Ireland, Campey Turf Care Systems, Overton UK, Aspen Fuel, Outdoor Professional Products, Mansfield Sand, RT Machinery, Dennis and SISIS plus many more.
Keep an eye out on our social channels and website where we’ll be publishing the full exhibitor list over the coming weeks.
5. Are you still open to working with any industry organisation or trade body?
Yes absolutely. We would welcome all the industry organisations into GroundsFest and would love the opportunity to work with them.
GroundsFest is an event for everybody, and we feel that by working together we could really help to benefit their respective members.
6. The education aspect is an important feature of GroundsFest, are you able to reveal more details yet of ways in which you hope to attract the next generation of professionals?
We are working hard behind the scenes on the education content and will be announcing some exciting details on this soon.
In terms of attracting the next generation of professionals, we are planning on holding a careers fair at GroundsFest. This will involve several schools attending where students can find out just how amazing this industry is.
They will get the opportunity to speak to groundstaff, receive a guided tour of the event, see some products in action, and even get involved in some practical demonstrations such as line marking. The plan is to really help put this industry on the map.

Green-tech announces two winners in young professionals awards
Green-tech is celebrating after finding out that two of their team have been named as winners in the Pro Landscaper ‘30 under 30’ - The Next Generation Initiative.
Twenty-five-year-old Key Account Manager Georgia Gilbert and 27-year-old Key Account Manager Arron Grange have both been selected as rising stars in the recent winners list, which seeks to unearth the most impressive young people within the arboriculture, garden design, horticultural and landscaping sectors.
Georgia started at Green-tech three years ago after graduating with a BSc (Hons) degree in Horticulture. She joined as a specifi cation administrator but her passion and enthusiasm for
wildflowers was quickly noted, and she was promoted into the John Chambers Wildflower team.
She has since become one the youngest members of Green-tech to become a key account manager for the John Chambers team. Georgia is also an ambassador for BALI GoLandscape and now visits schools and colleges to inspire the next generation into the industry.
Arron started at Green-tech six years ago as a sales advisor. His commitment and hard work paid off and two years later he was promoted to technical sales advisor.
Arron is now one of five key account managers across the
business and has recently been involved in working to expand the business into the Irish landscape market.
Green-tech’s Managing Director Kris Nellist is delighted for his two team members and comments, “Georgia and Arron are the sixth and seventh people from Green-tech to have achieved this high accolade since the 30
2014.
They are both remarkable young people with bright futures ahead of them and I am delighted and proud that they have been offi cially recognised within the industry.”

ITM programme kick starts new pitch
An ICL integrated turf management programme is helping Millwall Football Club’s new stadium pitch get off to the best possible start.
Steve Chalk has been at Millwall FC for nearly 12 years and in that time he has worked his way up to the position of Grounds Manager. Two years ago, a new hybrid pitch was installed and Steve saw this as an opportunity to explore and
implement new products. Many turf managers have benefitted from an ICL ITM programme and Steve is no exception. “With the new stadium pitch, we wanted a ITM programme that ticked all the right boxes,” he explained. “It helps us with moisture management and rooting, base feeds, and conventional fertilisers.”

ECOPROTEC paves the way for safe rust removal
New tree-lined plaza welcomes new arrivals at Bridlington
ECOPROTEC has introduced Iron Stain Away – a professional treatment that safely removes and helps prevent rust outbreaks from ferrous hard stones, including sandstone, slate and granite.
The new deep cleaner joins ECOPROTEC’s wide range of external surface care products, developed for the landscaper and contract sector. Whilst rust stains can be caused by contact with metals, ferrous stones naturally contain iron, which can oxidise or rust when it comes into contact with moisture, rain or cleaning products. This reaction causes brown stains and discolouration which can be difficult to remove.
Certain acidic cleaners, like brick acid and cement removers, also contain ingredients that can accelerate oxidisation. These same products are often used to remove rust marks and can create even more issues. ECOPROTEC Iron Stain Away is specifically formulated to safely remove these blemishes from acidresistant stone. The acid-based solution can be used on inside
and outside surfaces, giving results in 3-6 hours.
To remove surface rust stains and tannin marks - as well as accumulated oil, grease and dirtthe range includes ECOPROTEC Intensive Cleaner. This treatment can be used on all types of tile and stone, and at different dilutions to tackle issues from mild staining to severe residue build-up.
With over 30 years’ experience in the tile and stone market, LTP’s ECOPROTEC brand has become established within the contract sector since its launch in 2016. All treatments are made in the UK, are predominately ecofriendly, low odour and low VOC, and the entire range benefits from the most advanced research in water-based technology.
To find out more, visit the updated website - at www.ecoprotec.co.uk – which includes a comprehensive library of supporting technical resources, video demos and technical blog content.

Bridlington is on Yorkshire’s
Green-tech to provide a structural tree pit system that would enable the trees planted within the hard landscaping around the plaza to establish without risk of soil compaction.
A total of twelve trees were planted, eight on the pedestrian plaza area immediately outside of the main entrance, and four sited alongside the taxi rank. This is where Green-tech’s ArborRaft geo-cellular subbase replacement system comes into its own.
Rather than using a traditional deep-pit crate system that fills the tree pit down to the base, ArborRaft works on a combined raft/bridging principle, and sits across the top of the tree pit, leaving the rooting area itself completely free of plastic. Not only is this better for the tree, but it also means there is no conflict with underground services such as water, gas, electric or communication lines.
The ArborRaft can take a static vertical loading of 70 tonnes/m2, so can be used under vehicular or pedestrian paving with no concerns about the paving sinking, or the soil underneath becoming compacted.
This means that we can use a soft, friable, organic topsoil in the tree pit, rather than a heavily sand-based structural tree soil.
The trees were planted in individual tree pits, and over 300 tonnes of Green-tech’s manufactured Green-tree soil was delivered to site in stages as required. Green-tech also supplied each tree pit with tree anchors, Mona irrigation rings topped with aluminium Piazza fi ller inlets, and Fortress tree grilles, which are designed to take paving sets for a flush surface finish with the surrounding paving.

England’s largest Sequoias protected
Darlington’s South Park is home to two of what are believed to be the largest giant Redwood trees or multi-stemmed Sequoiadendron giganteum in England. Recent times have seen one of the Darlington trees suffering from the effects of compaction.
Darlington Council took action by calling on the services of Terrain Aeration’s Tree Division to provide specialist deep aeration of the area using their Terralift machines. The key to successful treatment is usually to work along the dripline, one metre inside and one metre outside, where the rainwater drips from the canopy.
Working either side of the dripline reaches beyond the growing roots, increases the percentage of oxygen intake and allows maximum drainage. Rainwater can penetrate deeper, resulting in a stronger root growth and a healthier canopy
spread with an aerated soil structure and relief of compaction panning. Once the trees receive significant rainfall, they pick up as they receive more water and nutrients. Unlike normal aeration, the Terralift is designed to penetrate as deep as one metre using a probe, which releases compressed air at a maximum of 20Bar (280psi). The effect this creates is to fracture the soil, resulting in fissures that interlink as the Terralift repeats the process on a grid system of two-metre spacings.

GftK is state-of-the-art jointing for paving jointing
Inadequate paving jointing is the primary cause for most of the problems with natural stone paving setts or cobbles, as well as many of the issues with larger slabs.
This is true in all different areas, from domestic patios to market squares, and includes problems with application due to weather restrictions, staining and diffi culty in cleaning, followed by the joint materials cracking and allowing water ingress, through to the point of the joints breaking-down and coming-out, especially under cleaning – such as by jet-washing domestic paving, or mechanical street
cleaning machines used in public areas.
The necessary restrictions and limitations for any form of cement or brush-in jointing, are also the reason for countless delays and waiting for the weather, to be able to apply in dry conditions and with no rain in the forecast –Seriously in Britain….?
These limitations are not the only an issue, as failure to comply with them due to time pressure is frequently the root cause of a lack of durability and failure. All over the UK there is an abundance of premature paving joint breakdown
and paved surfaces are failing, at home in our patios and driveways, on retail developments, and in our town centre pavements and market squares. The first visible signs are cracking, which is soon followed by further break-up of the joint materials, then complete breakdown of the paved surfaces.
However, ALL these issues and potential issues for jointing and/ or repointing, can be solved using the right GftK vdw paving joint mortar from NCC Streetscape, the exclusive UK Distributers of GftK jointing systems, the global leaders in paving jointing technology.
The GftK range includes paving jointing products that are specifically designed for all the different types of paving, joint sizes, and types of paved areas, as contrary to popular belief, there is no universal panacea in paving jointing!

Natural topsoil should be the sustainable choice
Landscaping products specialist, Boughton says more education is needed around the benefi ts of natural topsoil for landscaping projects.
Making more sustainable choices around the soil you use on site can have a huge impact on the quality of the finish you deliver to clients and the protection of vital natural resources.
Boughton Business Development Manager, Jason Lock believes more awareness is needed. He says: “In many instances, specifiers are completely unaware that soil substitutes they are using may not be a topsoil. to get a soil substitute and not a topsoil.” The benefits of using a natural soil are significant. These soils have good body and great moisture retention qualities –ideal for modern landscaping projects, given predictions of water shortages in the future.
Boughton soils also have a low pH, high organic content and boast both existing and developing organism biomass, which is a huge plus for planting schemes, as we know that microbial activity is crucial to the development and growth of flora within a soil.
Boughton typically sources its soil from pre-construction and construction sites from the counties surrounding its base in Northamptonshire. These topsoils – all of which are completely natural, organic
and peat free – are closely inspected and screened before use. Boughton never uses recycled soils because they cannot be relied on to be of a consistent quality.
A leading supplier of landscaping products, Boughton also has an extensive range of substrates suitable for green roofs.
These substrates are specifically engineered for a variety of green roof uses and feature low bulk density, the ability to retain sufficient water for plant growth but low nutrient content to prevent excessive growth, the ability to be free draining to prevent saturation, and suffi cient porosity to provide good aeration.

The UK’s leading supplier of fencing and gate accessories, Birkdale, returned to the exhibition scene last month with a selection of products, including the recently launched composite fence panels –Vento and Urban Slatted.
The Birkdale team also promoted the benefits of signing up to its popular Trained Installer Scheme.
Part of the DuraPost range, Vento is made from a blend of waste rice husk material and recycled plastic. Designed for the creation of ‘Hit and Miss’ style fencing, Vento has been tested to withstand winds of up to 110mph and has a 15-year guarantee as standard.
A durable and practical option, Vento will not rot, split, warp or crack. What’s more, Vento is incredibly light weight and easy to install; a pack of eight boards weighs less than 25kg and each panel can be fixed using just six screws. It can also help to meet sustainability requirements, with every composite board featuring a minimum of 60% recycled plastic.
Made from the same rice husk and recycled plastic combination as Vento, the Urban Slatted composite panel boasts the same strength and resistance capabilities. It has been created with a focus on style and aesthetics, mimicking the beauty and character of timber.
The system consists of six boards and two horizontal u-shaped rails at the top and base of the panel and requires six screws per panel to install. The Trained Installer Scheme is free to join, it provides trade professionals with training to further their knowledge of the DuraPost range, as well as best practice installation techniques.
Members will also receive guidance on how best to use the FENCEBUILDER app, which helps to plan installations, produce quick, professional quotes for customers and place product orders.

Playrite combines fun with safety
Fun should not be sacrificed when it comes to play and activity. The ground can easily be one of the biggest areas for injury at playtime in school and nursery, with children being clumsy and having falls, slipping on wet ground and tripping over uneven surfaces.
Playrite surfaces have been proven to have high levels of shock absorption, slip resistance, rotation resistance and impact attenuation compared to Tarmac. While also providing a playground that is soft while still being durable to weather.
With our range of playground surfaces, we can provide safety
for children of all age groups. We offer an easy to clean, safe and much more durable alternative to other surfaces, combining limitless design options and impact-absorbing materials that meet BSEN1177 and BS7188 standards.
Not only are our surfaces safe, clean and affordable but also enjoyable to use. With a range of 14 bright, fantastic colours to choose from, our playground surfaces are also visually pleasing and low maintenance.
Our very own Matchplay 2 artifi cial grass surface is by far our most popular sports surface, designed to be used within schools in multi-use games
As the name suggests, a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) is one that can be used for a variety of different sports and activities. They are becoming very popular with sports clubs, schools and other organisations that have limited spaces and need to get the best possible use out of a premium area.
Our MUGA consists of an artificial, all-weather sports surface made with synthetic materials, which will typically include multiple pitch markings for different sports.

Six sensational new playgrounds for council
Playdale was overjoyed to be given the contract to design, build, and install six (yes, six!) brand new playgrounds for the largest local authority in England, Kent County Council.
Kent County Council had obtained funding for investment in playgrounds throughout the county from the Contain Outbreak Management Fund.
The Fund was created to provide additional outdoor provision to limit the spread of COVID-19, with an emphasis on enhancing park amenities in higher deprivation communities and encouraging people to participate in outside activities.
The requirement was to create new play areas which contained both imaginative and creative play components for toddlers and risk-taking and more challenging elements for older children, including sliding, climbing, swinging and inclusive play!
Due to the play area’s locations, the council preferred timber equipment to stay in keeping with the natural environment.
The Playdale Area Manager for Kent, Jill Watson carried out indepth site surveys of all the sites which included: Pegwell Bay Country Park, Manor Park Country Park, Teston Bridge Country Park, Trosley Country Park, Shorne Wood Country Park, Brockhill Country Park and discussed the tender requirements in more detail with the Council.
Jill had been working with the Council for over 20 years, creating a strong relationship with them during that period. Playdale equipment was already installed in five of the six playgrounds.
For some of them, the new equipment was an extension of the existing Playdale playground, leaving the old equipment in situ, which was still regularly used by park visitors.
The completed playgrounds, won by Playdale through a competitive tendering process showcase a wide range of timber products as well as products with inclusive design elements.

Weedingtech highlights hybrid power
Weedingtech’s Foamstream is a chemical-free solution to vegetation management that is already a firm favourite with a number of councils and local authorities around the country.
Foamstream is delivered via industry-leading machinery, available in different sizes and with different power options,
suitable to mount on a variety of UTV’s or municipal vehicles.
The M600H is Weedingtech’s first hybrid unit, combining the economy of Lithium-Ion battery power with the proven efficiency of a diesel-powered boiler.
The M600H offers a flow rate of 6 litres per minute and, as the quietest unit in the range, is particularly
well suited to jobs in inner-city and rural environments. In addition to controlling weeds, moss and other unwanted vegetation, the M600H offers further benefit by tackling a host of other urban tasks including sanitisation, gum removal and the cleaning of graffiti.

HiSun shines with UTV
The groundcare industry is a-buzz with electric power – hand tools, mowers, tractors all being carefully examined by groundsmen to see if they meet the needs of their particular operation while helping to meet increasingly pressing low carbon targets.
Electric off-road vehicles are not especially new, but Chinese manufacturer HiSun is a pioneer in offering a full range of workhorse UTVs. Courtesy of importer Barrus, we took a look at the HiSun Sector 15KW, the top of the range Lithium-ion powered model, testing it in an undulating parkland setting. The exceptional summer meant that mud was not in evidence, but there were plenty of rough tracks, steep banks and ‘gnarly’ woodland to try its mettle.
The 72 volt electric motor develops the equivalent of 50hp and 168Nm of torque, soon in evidence whipping along the tracks and up the banks. We didn’t need to get out of high range; Barrus says that this is generally the case other than in deep mud. There’s also an eco setting to get the most out of battery power if you are plodding around a park or event to deliver supplies for example. It will also tow 350kg but this will obviously reduce its range.
Single speed direct drive works via a reduction gearbox to give slow speed/high torque performance with electric range change; there’s selectable four-wheel drive and rear/front diff locks for the boggy stuff. Low range offers regenerative braking function by limiting the revs, so can hold the vehicle on a steep descent.
Suspension is the independent, dual A-arm type and certainly gave a comfortable ride on rutted ground, also offering stability at higher speeds; adjustable shocks can be set for heavier loads or to give a softer ride when unladen. There’s 310mm of ground clearance which came in handy
on woodland tracks; with no sump at risk there’s minimal need for guarding which also means that water can get out as well as in. Electronics are securely sealed in a ‘black box’ at the centre of the chassis. The unladen bed height is 860mm, and gas assist makes the manual tipping a doddle, although hydraulic tip is soon to be an option. It’s a decent size with 227kg capacity. For anyone used to driving a diesel UTV, the lack of noise is somewhat mind blowing, although it does draw your attention to any other squeaks or bangs which would normally be drowned out.
The small half doors rattle a bit and would be one of the few gripes about this vehicle. Unless you remove the rubber selfclosing stops on the inside, they will also swing on you when you are half way through. Of course, HiSun offers lots of options for the cockpit, including full, lockable doors with sliding windows and a half cab.
There’s a large, comfortable bench seat with two head restraints and seat belts and a modest amount of storage including the essential cup holder. One very important noise is the rather shrill reversing beeper; it might be irritating but could prevent a whole lot
of accidents in a busy yard with such a quiet vehicle. Emissionfree performance will be what draws a lot of groundcare users to HiSun – legislation aside, a lack of fumes and noise is a big bonus in hospitality, events and equestrian yard applications. However, these users are probably the most likely to suffer ‘range anxiety’. HiSun counters this with more than 50 miles run time on a single charge –certainly enough for running tools or materials around a park all day.
Smart charging compensates for varying charge levels, tops up the batteries and then switches off. The de-rated charger draws 2kW so can be used with a standard three-pin plug - and an extension cable if necessary - trickle charging overnight.
Minimum time for a full recharge is put at five-and-a half hours. Final assembly is carried out at Barrus’s headquarters at Bicester, before delivery to the dealer network, which includes agricultural and groundcare dealers as well as electric vehicle specialists. The RRP price for a 15KW 2 seater is £25,495.00 plus VAT and for the Screen, Wipe and Wash kit it is £920.00 plus VAT.

New sustainable solution to leaf clearance
The GKB Machines Leaf Reducer offers an economic and environmentally-friendly alternative to the timeconsuming task of leaf collection – effectively mulching the material and returning it, and its nutrients, back into the surface to the benefit of impoverished soils. The Leaf Reducer has been developed in direct response to
demand from local authorities, looking for a more sustainable working method to using blowers, vacuums and trucks to collect and dispose of fallen leaves.
In a single pass, the flails on the Leaf Reducer collect the leaves before a turbine provides both initial fragmentation and the airflow needed to pull the material
into the machine where it is further milled into a fine mulch.
The fine ‘porridge-like’ material is then returned to the surface via a rear ejector which can be adjusted to a desired direction depending on the location.

Debut for new Kubota Centre Collect Front Mower
Versatility, manoeuvrability and precise cut quality are all assured with the introduction of the new Centre Collect Front Mower (CCFM) from Kubota, which was on show in the UK for the very first time at SALTEX.
The CCFM is the inaugural unit from the Kubota Gianni Ferrari S.R.L division, created in July 2022 following the announcement of the incorporation of Officine BIEFFEBI (BFB), and its subsidiary Gianni Ferrari (GF), into Kubota Holdings B.V.
At the heart of the CCFM is a powerful and economic 3-cylinder diesel engine and hydrostatic transmission, which guarantees excellent performance and control.
The patented HTC hydrostatic traction control device minimises surface damage, eliminates skidding traditionally caused by the hauling effect and
guarantees permanent 4-wheel traction, even when working on slopes or rough ground.
The ‘floating’ out-front mower deck conforms to undulations in the ground and features twin, retractable anti-collision blades to deliver a precision cut at all times.
Available with 126 or 130cm cutting widths, the height of cut can be quickly and easily adjusted on the CCFM via a spring lever located on the upper part of the deck. A high-capacity turbine then ensures efficient collection of the clippings into the 600 or 800L collector, which can in turn be emptied with ease thanks to the hydraulic high-tip function.
Ideally suited to landscapers, local authorities and parks & green space managers, the efficiency of the Kubota CCFM has not come at the cost of operator comfort. An easy-access platform, adjustable suspension
seat and steering column, power steering and an easy-to-read dashboard enhance usability and performance, while LED front lights and guards come as standard for optimal safety.
Commenting on its debut, Kubota’s Ground Care Product Manager Phil Catley, said “The
CCFM market has been growing steadily in the UK for the last few years and this new CCFM from Kubota will work well alongside our very successful F Series range of out-front rear discharge mowers.”

Success again for SALTEX 2022 Double Toro launch and sustainable cleaning from Reesink Turfcare
Reesink Turfcare launched two new products from Toro and the next big thing for sustainable machinery cleaning at SALTEX.
New machinery from Toro is always a big draw in the industry and this year there were two products debuting on stand K080.
The new Toro ProCore 648s builds on the incredible legacy of the ProCore 648 and brings even more innovative features to the time-tested machine that changed the way customers aerate. The s stands for superior – and superior it is.
An updated version of a customer-favourite model, there are more than 10 new patents and all the best features of the 648 customers know and love, with some brand-new enhancements based off operator feedback and Toro’s own in-depth studies.
Now, with all the primary controls at the operator’s fingertips, this machine can be operated single-handedly.
Hole spacing and true tine depth and hole spacing can be set and saved in the InfoCentre and there’s a broader range of 5mm (0.25 inches) for the ultimate control.
The new electronically controlled hydrostatic three-wheel drive ensures consistent hole spacing when aerifying up or down hill and the delay mode minimises disruption of the playing surface and guarantees maximum tine depth on the fi rst entries into the soil.
It allows operators to easily target where they want the coring
head to drop or raise using the leading edge of the front tyre as a marker, making starting and ending passes or going over an in-ground hurdle like a sprinkler much easier.
All ProCore 648 accessories are compatible with the ProCore 648s and can be used interchangeably.
Reesink Turfcare also unveiled the latest powerhouse from Toro to tackle all terrains: the new Toro Workman UTX 4x4. Built to withstand all environments including ice and snow, this robust four-wheel drive, fullsized utility vehicle can handle curbs, inclines, hillsides, slopes and drops and has a high ground clearing (25.4cm/10ins).
With 25 percent more cargo capacity than that of others in its class and a towing capacity of up to 2000lbs it delivers the ultimate productivity.
It’s road-ready and comes with a proprietary speed control system to guarantee the right speed and power for the job at hand, meaning customers can choose between lower RPMs for lower
fuel consumption and sound in sensitive areas, or higher RPMs for more power to haul a heavier load up hills and inclines.
New to Reesink Turfcare’s offering and the next big thing for sustainable cleaning of machinery is Bio-Circle GT Maxi, the parts cleaner that requires no water and eliminates pollutant run-off into the water system.
This provides customers with the solution for a VOC-free, pH neutral cleaning option that’s gentle on the environment but powerful enough to remove grease, oil, grass contamination, whiteline paint and fertiliser.
Finishing off Reesink Turfcare’s range at SALTEX was TYM’s T395, which although compact is powerful enough for a wide variety of groundscare jobs.
It’s Stage V compliant and multifunctional especially when coupled with an attachment such as an AgriMetal blower, also at the show.
Reesink Turfcare Enquiry 44
Seventy-six years of history has repeated itself at SALTEX 2022 as yet again the show delivered exactly what the groundscare industry wanted and has come to expect: the latest technologies, products, innovations and learning opportunities to unite every corner of the industry and shape the landscape of groundscare for 2023.
From all-electric tractors to robotics, sustainability to technology, new innovations to industry favourites, groundbreaking ideas to thought provoking debates, the show inspired those who attended and represented all that is current,
relevant, and impactful about the groundscare industry. Hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of visitors met, networked, sealed deals, and built knowledge at Europe’s largest annual groundscare event.
The show spread over three halls and brought together the manufacturers and suppliers, visitors and speakers, governing bodies and associations who impact the industry, help create and educate the next generation of groundstaff and provide the knowledge and technology to propel the groundscare industry into the future.
Talking about this year’s event and its role in providing the industry with what it wants and needs, GMA CEO Geoff Webb said: “The continued participation be that as a speaker, exhibitor or a visitor creates a buzz unrivalled in our industry.
“Whether its networking, checking out the latest equipment and products, to catch up with friends or to learn from experts SALTEX has it all under one roof and yet again we have delivered. We look forward to welcoming the industry back in 2023.”

New Weed Wizard raises the bar on targeted weed control
The new Weed Wizard, from Cambridgeshire based designer and manufacturer Techneat Engineering, is an ATV mounted spraying system that identifies weeds through digital imagery and applies a direct application onto the weeds via multi-pencil jet nozzles.
Each individually controlled nozzle treats a specific target area of 100mm (or 4“band) across the machines width, targeting weeds with a high degree of accuracy using ultralow drift nozzles combined with computer aided spot spray technology to minimise overspray and reduce environmental impact.
The intelligent application system is automatic, allowing the operator to focus solely
on controlling the vehicle and observing their surroundings in safety and comfort.
The Weed Wizard can be fitted to any type of ATV or Quad bike and comes complete with a 60L tank offering a spray width of up to 1.2M.
Machine specifications include a 12v diaphragm pump, tank agitation, glycerine filled pressure gauge and a dual filtration system.
For operators there is an optional hand lance with a 4m auto retractable reel and (for additional user safety) a flashing beacon that can be front or rear mounted.
The Weed Wizard is CE marked and typical working speeds can be set between
1-6kph depending on working conditions.
Tom Neat - Managing Director of Techneat Engineering says: “The Weed Wizard offers maintenance contractors and ground staff a cost-effective solution when targeting and eradicating individual or stubborn groups of weeds with no spray drift.
“Due to its outstanding accuracy and targeted approach, the Weed Wizard uses significantly less product than a standard overall sprayer, and offers the operator a sustainable way to maintain narrow pathways, such as cycle ways or gravel paths, that can often be difficult to access for larger maintenance vehicles.”

Ireland’s second-ever Master Greenkeeper dedicates success to late mother
The latest member of the British & International Golf Greenkeepers Association (BIGGA) to attain Master Greenkeeper status has dedicated his success to the memory of his mother, who passed away just weeks before he achieved the certification.
David Perdisatt, course manager at Mullingar Golf Club in Ireland, said his mother, Marion, was a “massive supporter” of his career, making it bittersweet that he wasn’t able to tell her when he discovered he had achieved the highest accolade available to BIGGA members.
David, 41, said: “Becoming a Master Greenkeeper is a massive milestone in my career and the first person I would have told
would have been my mother. She has been so supportive in my career but she passed away last month very unexpectedly, so it was a bittersweet moment.”
David has become just the second Master Greenkeeper based in Ireland and is the 88th to achieve the certification since 1991. The Master Greenkeeper Certificate is awarded to those members of BIGGA who have reached the highest standards of greenkeeping and golf course management.
An R&A Scholar, David has previously worked at Beechpark and Naas golf clubs and in 2016 was a finalist in the Toro Student Greenkeeper of the Year Awards. He was also the first Irish greenkeeper to participate
in the John Deere TPC Sawgrass Volunteer Programme.
Married to Fiona and a father of three, throughout his career David has gained plenty of tournament experience, having volunteered at the Singapore, Dutch and Irish Opens.
David said: “Opportunities to progress never present themselves, you have to go after them yourself and Master Greenkeeper is a process that validates everything you have done in your career. It’s a tough process but in any industry, if you are recognised as a master of your trade, that’s something to aspire to. I have lots of hopes and ambitions for the future and I think being a Master
Greenkeeper might be pivotal for my career in the years to come.
“I want to thank BIGGA for everything they’ve done for my career. I lean on them, particularly through the education side. I’m always accessing the website and the resources on there and I just want to say a massive thank you for the opportunity to help progress my career with the Master Greenkeeper certificate.”
David will be presented with his Master Greenkeeper certification at the BIGGA Welcome Celebration, taking place on the opening evening of the BIGGA Turf Management Exhibition in January 2023.

Cutting choices
McConnel has added a variable forward reach model (VFR) to its 30-Series range, an innovative move for this size of machine.
The 4.8m reach PA4830 VFR features a new armset created from Strenx and Hardox steel that is more than five per cent lighter while adding 0.5m reach over the PA4330.
The benefits of the new armset include improved comfort and visibility, greater precision and faster working speeds when operating in confined environments or around obstacles such as signposts and street furniture.
The PA4830’s new VFR technology enables operators to extend the arm 0.9m forward and 0.9m backward, positioning the attachment at any point along the cutting range and dramatically expanding the working area.
Featuring 30hp independent hydraulics the PA4830 can be mounted to a wide range of utility vehicles and compact tractors and can be specified as a left or right-
hand cut. The PA4830 has been redesigned to take advantage of the latest technology and new features include 95l oil tank (increased from 80l); safety breakback to protect the armset on contact with an obstacle; arm suspension for smoother operation and armset protection; lift and angle fl oat; greaseless bushes for reduced maintenance; improved hose routing for enhanced protection and road lighting kit.
Reach arms in the 30-Series range can be controlled by either simple cable controls or McConnel’s in-house designed, Mini Motion joystick controller. It features a progressive mini joystick with two easy-access switches providing proportional control of up to fi ve different services.
A dedicated front mount option version of the 30-Series, the PA3530FM, comes with an armset that folds flat for an unobstructed view forward when in the transport position. With improved forward visibility and choice of din-plate mounting, the PA3530FM is a popular choice
for specialist utility vehicles and skidsteer units.
The range of side arm flails from Ryetec provides high performance cutting for most compact tractors, giving large machine performance in a machine which can access smaller areas with ease or be used on lighter tractors on grass tyres for minimal impact on the surrounding environment even in wet conditions.
The recent addition of the addition of the SL420H and HP
have taken the popular 3.8m reach machine forward with an upgrade in head drive power of 25hp and 40hp for tough grass and scrub clearance. All models now benefit from the option of proportional joystick control, which minimises space for controls in the cab and eases operation.
Ground level offset mowing of verges and banks can be achieved with the Multiuse MUML/H range of offset flails with mechanical PTO drive for
a cost-effective solution as well as the 1.6m front mounted flail for out front mowing tractors to replace the more conventional rotary mower and flails mower with small diameter flails which struggle with the heavy duty work which verge mowing entails.
Kuhn offers several hedgecutter ranges. Available with horizontal reach of 4.30m and 4.80m, AgriLonger GIs are fitted with a mechanical safety system for a straightforward option.
Designed to be versatile, the Poly-Longer hedge and grass cutter has a horizontal reach of 5.50m and 57hp output. Its 116deg pivot offers a rear slewing capacity, with a parallelogram-mounted straight arm for easy operation.
It also features the EP electric proportional control system with four-function joystick as standard.
The Multi-Longer GII range includes the 57hp 5757 SPA model which offers up to 5.7m horizontal reach. OPTIview semi-leading arm kinematics
and parallelogram-mounted arm kinematics are a key feature of this machine. The parallelogram is designed to be easy to control and provides added visibility.
The main and outer booms are linked by a mechanical rod, so that the operator can control the movement of the entire arm with a single joystick movement.
For applications needing more power and for heavier workloads, the 80hp Pro-Longer GII is available in semi-leading and straight-arm versions, and is designed to be an easy-to-operate machine with its parallelogram. Horizontal reach is 5.7m.
Kuhn’s mid-range Poly-Longer and Multi-Longer hedge and grass cutters are now available with a hydraulic roller that provides greater control when operating on verges, ditches and riverbanks, and allows a rapid switch between operational modes.
For hedge cutting, the roller is retracted out of the way to ensure a neat and even trim.
As the seasons and weather changesAmazone have it covered.
Wet or dry grass, long or short, collect or mulch, the PH 1250 and PH 1500 models take it all in their stride.
The sharpened wing blades on the horizontal SmartCut rotor cleanly cut and shred the grass before conveying it via the cross auger on to that unique second vertical auger to be packed into the collection hopper - meaning less time emptying and more time mowing.
The more than adequate power is provided by engines that are already Stage V Exhaust emission compliant and require no AdBlue.
The IceTiger is the NEW generation of winter salt spreaders - with a 800 litres to 1900 litres hopper space and the precise working width can be set from 2 m to 8 m - both symmetrically and asymmetrically, via the EasySet 2 in-cab control box, the AmaTron 4 ISOBUS control terminal or any other ISOBUS compatible terminal.

There’s a wide choice of equipment for maintaining hedges, verges and other areas of vegetation. Jane Carley looks at some of the latest developments.
Most recent addition to the range is the Multi-Longer GII 7457 E-TPAL with a fully extended horizontal range of 7.4 metres and maximum vertical height of 8.4 metres. Featuring a parallelogram pivot-mounted straight arm configuration, the heavy duty frame and main boom are constructed of high yield steel. With a 57hp hydraulic motor and 21kW aircooled radiator with double heat exchanger, this machine has a recommended annual use of up to 1,500 hours per year.
Weaving Machinery supplies the Agrimaster range which includes front and rear mounted flails, offset Z flail mowers and a choice of reach arm machines. Suitable for cutting grass, stubble, set-aside to medium size
brash, the multipurpose flails can be front or rear mounted and come with hydraulic side shift and heavy duty skids as standard. Featuring a 1,000 RPM gearbox with clockwise and anti-clockwise direction, these models are suitable for tractors of 80HP – 200HP on Cat II linkage RV Models are 2.55 and 2.8m working widths and the RS 280 is a heavier duty version of the RV, complete with reinforced hood, rotor and roller.
Offset flails are available in three ranges, the XL from 1.32m width for sub compacts, the Fox from 1.6m width for compact tractors and the FN from 2.0 to 2.8m for tractors from 60 to 80hp. All can be used in line or offset and in the vertical position for siding hedges.
The cutting action of both ranges throws material over the top of the roller, keeping the cutting rotor clean and leaving a cleaner cut.
Reach arm machines start from the Giraffe, which has a reciprocating cutting bar and is designed for parks, schools and public areas as it does not throw the trimmings. Suitable for the smallest tractors it has a maximum reach of 3.3m.
With a belt driven fl ail head, the Agrimaster Compact is also designed for smaller tractors and comes with cable controls, parallel arm linkage and head float. Topping out the range is the 5.3m reach R520 with 1.25m head and features including fully proportional cable joystick for lift and reach, cable rotor
engagement, rotor reverse, parallel arm, head float and power slew with break back.
The Maschio flail mower range distributed by Opico is one of the largest and most flexible available on the UK market with models and features to suit every need from amenity and landscape applications through to forestry and agricultural applications.
Whilst a mechanical and/or hydraulic offset is available on most standard mounted machines the range also includes fully offset models ideally suited to maintaining verges. The incline offset of the Giraffa range allows the flail mower to
rotate 65 degrees downwards and 90 degrees upwards giving the ability to work on vertical or steep sloping banks or even hedge sides.
With models suitable for tractors of 20–200hp, the most popular amenity models are the medium duty front/rear Brava and Bella, along with the heavy duty, left or right offset Giraffa XL. All the models ensure all the worked material is thoroughly cut and mulched at a fast rate enabling a large amount of ground to be covered in a working day. Furthermore, there are a host of small features incorporated into every model to make use and maintenance, easy and safe.
Ventrac 4520
Becx Machines, the Netherlandsbased manufacturer of mechanical hedge cutting equipment for tool carriers and excavators are represented in the UK by Fentons of Bourne in Lincolnshire. Becx has a range of seven different hedge trimming attachments with working widths between 75 cm and 240 cm.
In order to optimally operate these cutting heads, they have also developed their own mowing arms, which connect the cutting head to the tool carrier.
The HS75HR, the smallest in the hedge trimmer range, has two trimmer heads and is an entirely new design. An electric-powered version, the HS75ER has the hydraulic motors replaced by 48volt electric motors, making it possible to trim hedges without releasing carbon emissions.
The latest addition to the range is the MA270 mowing arm with a reach of 2.7m which can be used both left and right of the carrier vehicle as the arm is hydraulically rotatable through 180 degrees. This enables the machine to operate in tight spaces.
The standard version of the implement coupling, where the arm meets the cutting head, is turned manually, but can also be operated with an optional hydraulic swivel unit.
The MA270’s frame is made from high grade steel, with the connecting pins manufactured from chrome steel, for extra durability. With a reach of 2.7 metres, the design of this machine makes it possible to work stably at maximum height, as well as closer to the machine.
The Ventrac 4520 compact tractor is ideal for maintaining hedges, roadside verges and the edges of ponds and riverbanks in safety, as it is can operate on inclines of up to 30 degrees.
Recent introductions of mowing attachments have added to the versatility of the Ventrac offering for hedge and verge management.

standard and ensures that the main frame of the machine remains level, irrespective of the tractor angle in relation to undulating ground.
As a result, the requirement to make manual adjustments to account for the unevenness of the terrain is significantly reduced, making for a much easier, trouble-free operation.
Razorback’s range include a 5.5m reach machine as well
as a larger 6.8m telescopic model, available with flail and rotary head options. Flail head options include 1.5m and 1.2m wide versions and feature a unique hood design, engineered to allow for greater trash flow for a more efficient and even cut.
In addition to the reach mower range, Razorback also offer a range of rotary and flail mowing solutions suited to both the agricultural and amenity markets.
Major Upgrades to Off set Mower
Major Equipment has upgraded its Verge Mower for extra durability and agility.
With full 140-degree movement and powerful shredding capabilities, the Verge Mower helps local authorities, highway maintenances teams and professional crews keep roadside verges and hedges in check.
The hydraulically controlled arm can go 35 degrees down into ditches and embankments and up 90-degrees to trim hedges, shrubs and trees in one fluid motion. In offset mode, the 1.56m extension suits mowing under trees, around fences and other hard to reach areas.
Heavy duty gearboxes transmit power consistently to the blades, which ensures even cutting and mulching in light and heavy vegetation. Added shock load protection within the gearboxes dampen vibration as well as protect the machine in the event of a collision. Rubber skirting around the deck encases flying
debris. With fewer wearing parts than flails, the Major Verge Mower is also easier to maintain and more cost effective to run.
The Major Verge Mower comes in two working widths. The 1.43m model (MJ36-140) has two rotors with eight blades. The 2.11m model (MJ36-210) has three rotors with twelve blades. Cutting height can be easily adjusted from 15mm to 100mm.
The mower folds vertically in transport mode to 1.60m width. The mower is rear mounted onto Class 2 tractors with options for left or right-hand maneuvering.
Made of high performance Strenx Steel and galvanized to ISO standards, the Major Verge Mower is an exceptional investment for the long-term.

for areas of overgrown brush and woodland margins that do not require regular mowing, while providing a superior finish to that of a typical rotary rough-cut mower.
Wide area mowing Spearhead Machinery has introduced two new Multicut rotary mower models, the first to incorporate a flat top skin.
Whilst all Multicut models ensure high performance with a flat underside, customers have been calling for a flat top.
The new Multicut 480 (replacing the 460) and Multicut 650 (replacing the 620) deliver exactly this. With an entirely level deck, debris continually blows off the mower, leaving little to sweep off.
The 480 and 650 are both available in an Ecoline and a Proline version.
Ecoline suits less intense usage, such as grass topping. Finished in Spearhead green, these Multicuts have standard wheels, fixed axles, and three blades per rotor.
The proven EZ165 (165HP) gearbox is retained. Said to deliver 30% more power than competitive gearboxes, these components now run cooler and are boosted by oversized shafts and gears.
Meanwhile, lower seal protection minimises the risk of ingress from debris, whilst a seven-year warranty comes as standard.

Merchant Taylors’ chooses ISEKI
Richard
Ayling,
Grounds Manager at Merchant Taylors’ School in Middlesex, has praised his new fleet of ISEKI tractors for helping the grounds team maintain 300 acres of estate.
From the classroom to the sporting facilities – no stone is left unturned. “We try and give the boys the best experience they can in whatever sport they want to enjoy,” said Richard. “We have over 80 acres of sport areas, and that sits in nearly 300 acres of estate including the preparatory school grounds. This is why we need to invest in the best machinery.”
Richard, who has been at Merchant Taylors’ for 26 years and oversees
a team of 10 members of staff, explained that up until recently he was tied into a 5-year contract hire for the school’s larger equipment. That contract was coming to an end, and he began to research the market. “My plan was to raise the standard of the equipment and when searching for tractors I was led to ISEKI,” he said. “I was very impressed with the demo we had from RT Machinery, and the IQ transmission was one of the main reasons we purchased them.”
Richard purchased two ISEKI TG6507’s and a TG6687 which both benefit from the innovative dual-clutch IQ gearbox. It combines the ultimate comfortable automatic operation with the advantages of manual
gear changes. Specific to the IQ range of TG tractors the Headland management controls are also perfect when working with turf maintenance implements. The PTO Stop/Start function allows you to stop the PTO when the link arms are raised for ease of operation. PTO Stop in reverse lifts the arms to a pre-set height if reverse gear is selected to prevent any damage to implements. These are fully adjustable.
Richard also purchased the ISEKI TH5370, which is ideal for areas where lightweight machinery is required, and he mainly uses this on the school’s synthetic sports pitches.

ISEKI fleet is the top gun
A landscape maintenance contractor has revealed why he insists on using ISEKI tractors for maintaining two former RAF (Royal Air Force) stations.
Keith Clipsham works for Urban and Civic, and he looks after two unique, former RAF stations. RAF Waterbeach and RAF Alconbury have since made way for new housing developments and Keith is the man responsible for keeping the vast areas of green space intact. “We cut approximately 350 acres at Alconbury and 400 acres at Waterbeach, so we need
machinery that is 100% reliable,” he said. “This is why we have three ISEKI machines.”
“My first ever ISEKI tractor was a 47hp, and that has carried out approximately 3,500 hours with a flail on the back of it which is still going strong. Based on the success of that, we bought a larger 80hp model and again it is brilliant. Most recently we wanted one in between the two models we already have and our dealer, Fentons of Bourne, recommended the ISEKI TG6687.”
The ISEKI TG6687 is fitted with a Stage V 67hp engine and is compact in size with all the accessories and options of the higher specification tractors. The technology allows for easy operation and less fatigue on the driver.
With a superior lift capacity of up to 1,600kg, the ISEKI TG6687 allows you to run all your implements without the need to increase the size or horsepower of your tractor. The HST model also gives users the benefit of cruise control, which is perfect for a variety of turf maintenance implements where accuracy is required. The PS model has an F12/R12 Power Shuttle transmission.
It is safe to say that Keith is pleased with the newest addition to his ISEKI fleet. “Overall, I would highly recommend ISEKI – it cuts a huge amount of grass and cuts it quickly,” he added.
