National Lottery boost to innovate and improve parks
Groups and organisations are being sought to test innovative ways of managing the UK’s public parks following a £2m National Lottery funding boost for the Rethinking Parks programme.
Rethinking Parks – a partnership between Big Lottery Fund, Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and Nesta - has announced a £2m grant fund, matched by more than £300,000 in support from innovation foundation Nesta, which will learn from and share the most innovative and promising new business models for parks.
The new funding will build on learning from the first Rethinking Parks programme, which ran from 2014 to 2016 and involved a £1m investment into 11 park schemes across the UK.
Digital technologies are changing the landscape of how parks are
used and managed. For example, Bournemouth Parks Foundation (one of the 11 original Rethinking Parks schemes) combined an innovative operating model with testing how direct digital donations from park users, while physically in a park, could fund improvements.
Over 37 million people in the UK regularly use parks each year and 90% of households with children under five visit their local park at least once a month. Parks are important to wellbeing and community cohesion and are key to addressing challenges such as childhood obesity and climate change.
While 95% of park managers expect their revenue budget to be cut over the next three years, the State of UK Public Parks 2016 report found that partnerships and collaborative working – between local authorities, charities, funders, businesses and
Update on the withdrawal of iprodione based products
The EU’s Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed (SCoPAFF), has voted for the non-inclusion of iprodione.
This means that all products across Europe containing this active ingredient, including Chipco Green and Interface from Bayer, will be withdrawn from the market.
Bayer is working to the following timescales for the UK and Ireland, in terms of sell-out and usage periods of iprodione product based registrations: 5 March 2018 - sales of Chipco Green and Interface will cease and the three-month use-up period will commence; and 5 June 2018 - this is the last date for storage, disposal and use of any iprodione based products, including Chipco Green and Interface.
The loss of iprodione reduces the available number of fungicide groups for turf managers from
six to five. With other chemicals also due for assessment, a further reduction in the total number of products on the market for turf disease control is to be expected.
In light of this, Bayer’s new turf fungicide Exteris Stressgard, launched at BTME in January 2017, brings a totally new fungicide group to the market - SDHIs, and without this innovation from Bayer, greenkeepers would only have access to four fungicide groups.
“It’s important for turf managers to appreciate that the continued pressure on contact acting, chemistry will likely mean that they need to adopt a preventative disease control strategy, and Exteris Stressgard is ideal for this approach,” says Steve Bishop, Bayer professional product manager.

park users – can play a key role in protecting parks by sharing resources and expertise.
Ros Kerslake, Chief Executive of HLF, said: “Public parks are not a luxury, they are vital to the
physical, mental and economic wellbeing of local communities. Rethinking Parks has already given local people, businesses and authorities the tools to explore and deliver innovative ways to manage and protect
parks for the future. This new round of funding will go further to help parks not only survive but to thrive.”

Community rainpark wins top award at Landscape Institute Awards
Making the announcement at the LI Awards ceremony at the Brewery in London on November 23, President Merrick Denton-Thompson praised the
practice’s ‘exemplary approach to partnership working’.
The project is a community-driven scheme that sits between a school and two playgrounds in White City, West London. Previous road and parking facilities at the site made school pick-up and drop-off difficult, and caused crossing hazards for children. In addition, due to its location within
the famously capacity-exceeding Counters Creek sewer catchment, the road was highly susceptible to surface water flooding.
The finished project delivers a safe passage to school for children and a place for parents to meet, as well as a landscape that is resilient to unpredictable climatic events.

From our front cover story on the latest Lottery-funded support to parks, to the various award-winners featured throughout the magazine, our industry has every reason to feel optimistic. The University of Sheffield’s major landscaping conference taking place in a few weeks is another sign of a growing confidence.

Transforming the delivery of physical activity locally with £100m plan
Sport England has identified 12 places it will work with on a bold new approach to build healthier, more active communities across England.
Around £100 million of National Lottery funding will be invested in the pilot scheme over four years, to create innovative partnerships that make it easier for people in these communities to access sport and physical activity.
By focusing intensely in 12 areas, Sport England wants to identify better ways to address these stubborn inequalities and break down the barriers that stop people getting active, such as poor transport, safety, cost and confidence. And it wants to encourage wider, collaborative partnerships which look at how all parts of a community can better work together to help the most inactive.
From the transport links and street lighting to the quality of parks and open spaces, to how sport and activity is promoted by GPs. Partnerships will encompass organisations beyond the sport sector such as voluntary groups, social enterprises, faith organisations and parenting groups.
The 12 pilot areas are Birmingham and Solihull, Bradford, Calderdale, Doncaster, Essex, Great Exeter, Greater Manchester, Hackney, Pennine Lancashire, Redcar & Cleveland and Middlesbrough, Southall, and Withernsea.
Cllr Gerald Vernon-Jackson, Chair of the LGA’s Culture,
Tourism and Sport Board, said: “Councils are helping people get out and about and become more physically active on a daily basis, but we need support to look at what works best and has the biggest impact. These pilots offer a fresh approach to how Sport England can work with local authorities and their partners on the ground to reach out to the quarter of the population who struggle to be active.
“There is huge ambition within local government to break down the barriers for those in their communities who cannot take part in sport or physical exercise.
Sport England’s extension of these pilots from 10 to 12 will bring these benefits to more people and a greater chance to find out what really does and doesn’t work. Sport England’s strategy pledged to spend £130 million on these pilots so we will be seeking assurances that the £30 million not announced today will also be allocated to local areas as originally set out.
“Previous approaches to investment in sports participation has not produced the results hoped for and this new funding for 12 pilot areas is an opportunity to fundamentally rethink how we engage people in getting active, with potential to expand this to all council areas.
If successful, this will provide a major long-term cost saving for the country, preventing the need for treatment further down the line which places significant extra pressure on the NHS and social care.”

Land Trust inspires giant leap in health and well being
The Land Trust charity is fast earning a reputation as one of the UK’s most successful ethical land management organisations.
Working closely with local communities, the Trust has engaged with a record number of people over the last year.
This was the upbeat message given to trustees and members at the charity’s annual general meeting by Land Trust chief executive Euan Hall. He also explained that another six sites had been added to the Land Trust portfolio, representing a total of over 2,300 hectares of green space now under the Trust’s management.
Nearly 55,000 people have benefited from joining in formal health activities or guided walks across the Trust’s 63 country
parks and estates, including three designated Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) – a 40 per cent increase on last year. This is in addition to the hundreds of thousands of walkers, joggers and families who visited on an informal basis.
Volunteers delivered 11,500 days of improvement works to
key sensitive environmental sites and the next generation were encouraged to explore the big outdoors, with over 7,500 students taking part in 300 separate education visits.
The Green Flag, a kite mark for well-managed green spaces, is already held by three sites at Beam Washlands,
near Dagenham, Elba Park in Sunderland and Greenwich Peninsula Ecology Park.
This year they have been joined by Silverdale Country Park in Staffordshire – a regenerated former colliery site.

Iconic London landmark development wins Grand Award for Maylim
At the 41st BALI National Landscape Awards, BALI Registered Contractor Maylim received the coveted Grand Award for One Tower Bridge, a stunning mixed-use development directly adjacent to one of London’s most iconic landmarks.
The BALI National Landscape Awards recognise the excellence in landscape design, construction and maintenance, and in Affiliate customer service, achieved by Registered members of the British Association of Landscape Industries. 115 entries were received this year and 80 awards made.
The presentation of the Grand Award to Maylim’s Managing Director Thomas O’Mahony, was made by headline sponsor Green-tech’s Sales Director, Richard Gill.
VIP guests this year included Professor Nicola Spence, Defra’s Chief Plant Health Officer; Neil Parish MP, Chair of the EFRA Select Committee; Dr Phil Askew, Director of Landscape & Placemaking, Peabody; Martin Simmons, Director of Operations, Horticultural Trades Association; Daniel Cook, Chief Executive Officer, Landscape Institute; Matthew Bradbury, Chairman, The Parks Alliance; Sarah Morgan, Chair, and Craig Moyes, COO, Society of Garden Designers.
Maylim, who are based in North London, were awarded the Grand Award - BALI’s highest accolade
- at this year’s ceremony for their landscaping of the One Tower Bridge. The BALI Awards adjudication panel highlighted the company’s attention to detail throughout the project and their ability to overcome huge logistical challenges as key to their Awards success.
Although Maylim have undertaken numerous high profile projects, including Phase one of the Battersea Power Station redevelopment and work to extend Tate Modern, this is the first time they have entered a project into the BALI National Landscape Awards.
Commenting on the company’s achievement, chair of the adjudication panel Greg Allen said: “One Tower Bridge is a magnificent advertisement for British landscaping and Maylim is a worthy recipient of the 2017 BALI Grand Award.
“To receive the highest possible landscaping accolade at their first attempt is remarkable. This year I and my fellow judges were, once again, faced with having to select one scheme that shone out from amongst the other Principal winners that we had identified as truly exceptional.
“Our choice of One Tower Bridge as the Grand Award winner was unanimous and we applaud and congratulate everyone at Maylim for delivering a beautiful piece of landscaping artistry.”

Kazuya Tani the European Managing Director of ISEKIsaid: “This is an exciting time for ISEKI we will be investing more in marketing and promotions of the ISEKI brand and want to see a wider acceptance of our products through expanding our markets served and getting more share from existing customers.
“The commitment of ISEKI to the UK Market will be significant and we trust that the market will react positively to this approach.”
More information will be issued over coming weeks and no changes are anticipated to the current dealer network.

Jacobsen showcases the new AR series and TR series at BTME
IOG recommends 2.5 per cent pay rise for grounds staff
The Institute of Groundsmanship (IOG), the leading membership organisation for everyone involved in the management of sports pitches, landscape and amenity facilities in the UK, is recommending a 2.5 per cent increase in grounds staff’s national minimum salary bands for 2018.
But the IOG also advises that a 2.5 per cent increase would, in real terms, equate to an increase of just 0.1 per cent when the projected Consumer Price Index (CPIH) is accounted for.
The new Jacobsen AR and TR series replaces the existing AR-3, TR-3 and Tri-King machines.
Created with usability in mind, the new machines are built on a common platform, and are offered as standard or premium models.
The AR321 (standard model) and AR331 (premium model) are 3WD rotary triple mowers featuring 24.8hp Kubota diesel engines. The TR320 (standard model) and
the TR330 (premium model) are triplex cylinder mowers.
As one of the groundcare industry’s major manufacturing companies, Textron Golf will also be showcasing other mowers and aeration equipment from Jacobsen plus Cushman utility vehicles, Iseki tractors and turf maintenance equipment from the Turfco and Ryan brands.

However, the IOG says the increase would: maintain a sustainable pay structure for all grounds staff; account for inflationary pressures; and ensure grounds staff pay is in line with overall market trends. Most pay awards in the private and leisure sectors are predicted to be two to three per cent in 2018.
Based on independent, industrywide research, the IOG recommendations also suggest a two per cent extension to the top of each pay band, to allow for greater professional development and to reward experience.
These bands reflect minimum recommended basic salary payment and are based on a 37.5-hour week. Bonuses, overtime and subsistence payments have not been included and are therefore additional.
The IOG also recommends that employers ensure they meet their obligations in terms of maintaining a healthy worklife balance and ensure fair payment for overtime worked –by agreement about the balance between overtime pay, time off in lieu or flexible working.
Regional pay allowances continue to be incorporated into the salary bands and the IOG recommends that higher cost areas of the country should make salary awards at the upper levels of the bands. It is expected that the recommended minimum pay rate for a groundsperson in London should be £20,000 –though there is an expectation that most in this category would already be paid above that, in line with previous recommendations.

Makita’s site in Glasgow has a national role
Makita UK has opened their first regional Factory Service Centre (FSC) & Training Academy in Glasgow’s Govan commercial district to support the rapidly expanding market penetration of Britain’s number 1 professional power tool range in Scotland and Northern England.
Whilst this new facility is already providing a valuable regional role the FSC has already been awarded the national responsibility for the secure environment of servicing Makita’s comprehensive range of dust extraction machines.
To carry out maintenance or repair functions on an extractor approved for use with Class L, M or H dust particulates, the repair facility must protect both the technician working on the machine as well as the workshop environment from dust
contamination should material escape from the extractor. The FSC facility will now handle all dust extraction servicing for the brand right across the UK.
The Factory Service Centre & Training Academy covers nearly 1000m³ on South Street in the G14 area and delivers technical repairs and maintenance services for the full range of Makita products, including all mains and cordless construction machines, and the rapidly expanding range of grounds care tools, including petrol engine products.

Safeguard serves up an ace for Surrey tennis club
Ease of use, durability and value for money drove Horley Lawn Tennis Club to choose Roxil Wood Protection Cream from Safeguard Europe Safeguard Europe – the UK’s leading specialist in damp-proofing and waterproofing technology – to treat its clubhouse, built in 2015.
The club’s shiplap exterior needed protective treatment according to the supplier, National Stables, after two years.
David concluded that Roxil Wood Protection Cream, which
only requires one coat, lasts 10 years and can be applied by either brush or roller, was ideal and so it proved. The club’s 10 volunteers took just a day to apply the cream to what Johnson believes to be about 172m2 on a building measuring 19m long, 9m deep, and about 2.5m high, except at the ends and middle where it is nearer 5.5m high.
Ideal for protecting fences, decking, sheds, furniture and wooden buildings, Roxil Wood Protection Cream is a silicone cream emulsion that invisibly waterproofs softwood and so boosts resistance to warping, decay and rot, and cuts mould and algae growth.

Haddonstone launches new Box Planter and Heritage Planter ranges
Haddonstone, the UK’s leading manufacturer of fine garden ornaments and architectural stonework, is introducing two new collections of stylish planters – the Box and Heritage ranges.
The Box planter range is contemporary in design whilst the Heritage planter range is more traditional featuring raised moulding detail. Both ranges come in three sizes –small, standard and large. All three sizes in each range are manufactured in Haddonstone’s
TecLite material to ensure stone thickness, and consequently weight, is kept to a minimum.
Although TecLite closely resembles traditional cast stone and natural stone in appearance, the use of thin wall construction and Glass Fibre Reinforced Concrete (GRC) technology means the component weight is reduced by approximately two thirds when compared with similar Haddonstone pieces.

University enrols Aggregate Industries for first class work
Aggregate Industries has supplied a mixture of concrete and gravel aggregate for De Montfort University (DMU) to remodel and landscape Mill Lane, the main thoroughfare in the heart of the campus.
The contract, awarded by Balfour Beatty, saw Aggregate Industries supply concrete for the development, which has created a visually impressive area of public paths and seating in the main area of the university. The Mill Lane remodel, which was completed
by Aecom Landscaping, a leader in beautiful, contemporary landscape architecture, required 400m 3 of Artevia colour concrete, and golden gravel aggregate, to create a visual and structural layer design.
Artevia was not only selected as a complimentary product to enhance the ‘streetscape’ design pallet, but it offered the necessary durability required of a concrete being used in a heavily foot trafficked environment.
To meet the expectations of DMU and Leicester Council, Aggregate Industries worked in partnership with Aecom Landscaping to help design the slabs for the development at every stage of the process from concept to installation.
This included the specification of bespoke concrete mixes, logistical planning to acquire the highest quality materials to optimise the aesthetics and onsite technical support during the installation of the ensuring the chosen material
would deliver an aesthetically pleasing construction. Aggregate Industries’ Artevia, is the perfect material for projects like Mill Lane, making it possible to create different visually appealing design textures and colours, and contrast with other materials or surroundings. It is low maintenance, and naturally slip and skid resistant, making it ideal for busy thoroughfares such as a university campus.

FEGGA sustainability statement pulls no punches
Following leadership from The Federation of European Golf Greenkeeper Associations, greenkeepers all over Europe have come together in a pledge for responsible and sustainable golf course management.
All of FEGGA‘s 22 European national greenkeeping organizations have agreed to promote and endorse a clear, detailed and ambitious strategic vision that embraces golf‘s potential to produce multiple benefits for nature and man. Included within this collaboration were representatives of the R&A and the GEO Foundation, and the result is the FEGGA Statement of Responsible Golf Course Management.
“To put this Statement into context, many ordinary people throughout Europe in the course of their everyday lives have major
concerns relating to consumption of energy & resources, and the release of particulates and emissions,” says FEGGA board member Paul Worster, himself a Golf Course Manager.
“We are all familiar with the terms climate change and global warming and every industry is required to deliver a clean and non-polluting service. However, very few regular golfers would have any concept of any standards within the Golf Industry to prepare a golf course for play, each and every day. The Statement sets these out and looks for ways to improve.”
According to FEGGA Board Chairman, Kamil Pecenka, the purpose of the FEGGA Statement is not to rigidly dictate to every greenkeeper how to do their job. Rather, the aim is to communicate the job that is
done, and the solid reasoning and environmental principles behind it. The Statement is to give guidance and direction to the greenkeeping team, and is to be regarded as a tool with which to communicate with members, visitors and owners.
The FEGGA board aims is to translate the document into all the member Associations native languages, and with six completed 2 of which are available to view below, a real positive start has been made. This will certainly allow the document to reach more people, and for them to see the commitment FEGGA is making once again to Sustainable Golf Course Management.
Another build on to the document is to make it electronically interactive, providing links to simple but important information
and guidance for greenkeepers and golf clubs to help them with their own journey of sustainable management. It then becomes a real resource within the FEGGA toolbox.
FEGGA Executive Officer Dean Cleaver says that FEGGA plans to continually build on this initial statement and include case studies from successful projects and working practices. “We will not pull any punches here.
“As well as inspiring our people to improve environmental performance, the package needs to be a sensible, useful, practical working guide as to how to make improvements, and how to answer questions and scrutiny from those who pay for the maintenance of our courses. In short, we need to be credible and convincing and the document needs to be exactly that.”

Les Malin appointed managing director for Etesia UK More playing fields safeguarded by Sport England
In his third successive promotion, Les Malin has been appointed as the new managing director of Etesia UK with immediate effect.
After starting his career in the farming industry at the age of 16, Les moved into the groundscare industry in 1993. He joined Etesia UK from Amazone in 2000 as area manager and was appointed general manager in 2006. He quickly became an influential figure within the company and in 2014 he was promoted to operations director - a move which saw him become the company’s first ever UK director.
Following the retirement of Etesia SAS president Patrick Vives In December, the board and shareholders unanimously decided to promote Les to the position of managing director.
Throughout his tenure at Etesia UK, Les has seen the company grow into one of the most innovative manufacturers in the groundscare industry. What started as an unknown
company with just one product, Etesia now boasts an extensive dealer network throughout the UK and has added to its wide portfolio of products after becoming exclusive distributors of Pellenc battery-powered tools in 2010 and the Oeliatec environmentally-friendly weed control range in 2017.
Les has been instrumental in helping the UK become Etesia’s third largest market behind its homeland France and Germany – which certainly is an achievement considering that
Etesia now has a presence in over 40 countries.
Commenting on his promotion Les said: “It’s an achievement and an honour and I’m very grateful for the opportunity to prove myself.
“My aim is to try and help the business continue to grow and show the shareholders that we can do what we need to do and make it work for them.”

New figures from Sport England reveals its role as a statutory consultee on planning applications has protected 1,138 out of 1,200 playing fields.
In many cases, Sport England not only secured playing fields but improved the facilities.
Councils are required to consult the organisation on any proposed development that would affect or lead to the loss of a sports playing field. Sport England objects to all applications unless the developer can prove it will improve or protect sports provision.
The figures show that in 2015/16: • 95% of concluded planning applications resulted in improved or safeguarded sports provision
• In 46% of cases where we originally objected to an application, our intervention and further negotiations led to an overall improvement of the site
• Of the 120 applications where we objected to
applications, 49 were either withdrawn by the applicants or refused planning permission
• Despite our objections during the planning process, 62 applications (5%) were approved by local planning authorities.
“Playing fields are a vital part of grassroots sport as they are often the place where young people have their first experience of sport and develop habits that will help keep them active through life,” says Sport England’s property director Charles Johnston.
“That is why our statutory role is so important. I’m pleased the latest figures show that the safeguards we have in place are continuing to work.”
Sport England’s Active Places data shows that across England there are 21,866 playing fields, containing a total of 70,381 pitches used for sports such as football, rugby and cricket.

Water made irrigation ready by Otterbine at equipment testing centre
Otterbine’s High Volume aerator has been installed in the golf practice area in The R&A’s Equipment Testing Centre at Kingsbarns, Scotland, to keep the water well-aerated and the build-up of algae to a minimum.
Paul Kimber from Kimber Golf, golf course architect and contractor working with The R&A on the facility, says: “Otterbine was considered a good choice to aerate the water for irrigating the practice area, based on the good company it keeps under Reesink Turfcare distributorship.
“Reliable after-sales service was important and we know through our work with Reesink and its Toro products this is what we’d get. Otterbine is providing us with the high quality solution for an important client we would expect.”
And that solution is clean and healthy water. Callum Oliphant, managing director of Applied Irrigation, one of Scotland’s leading irrigation specialists, who worked with The R&A and Kimber Golf on making this product choice, says: “Irrigation is vital to keep the greens in the best condition so tests can
be performed on a true playing surface and clean healthy water is essential for that. One pond feeds the entire underground irrigation tank so we knew the product we chose had to be able to shift a good quantity of water.”
Otterbine is the only manufacturer to have oxygen transfer and pumping rates independently tested and published on its aeration systems with the High Volume offering the highest in the industry.

Kubota is top of the class at Merchant Taylors’ School
Kubota UK’s partnership with Merchant Taylors’, one of the ‘Great Nine’ schools of England, is going from strength to strength after the school recently replaced, on a contract hire agreement, 13 of its machines for 13 new machines through George Browns, the UK’s largest Kubota groundcare dealer.
With 285 acres of pitches, lakes and woodland to maintain, and a campus that boasts first class facilities, it is vital that Merchant
Taylors’ ground maintenance team have the most reliable, hard working and best performing equipment on the market.
The responsibility of the maintenance and upkeep of this vast rural estate is led by grounds manager Richard Ayling, who has been working at the school for almost 23 years.
“The purchasing of the machines was straightforward after taking different factors
into consideration,” he said. “We need machines that can perform to the highest standards. Reliability is also important to avoid any costly downtime and the machines we use need to be comfy and simple to operate so my team can carry out their work efficiently. That’s exactly why we chose Kubota.”
The school’s recent order includes two of Kubota’s market-leading diesel-powered RTV-X900 utility vehicles, three petrol-powered
RTV-500s and two commercial mowers, the Kubota G21 ride-on and out front F3090. Richard also purchased a number of Kubota’s popular L Series mid-sized tractors, including two L5040s and an L5740.

ICL fit for a King at Radley College
Adam King, Grounds Manager at Radley College in Abingdon, Oxfordshire has reported excellent results from ICL’s ProTurf and Vitalnova Stressbuster - which he says have helped him improve the health and presentation of the school’s vast array of sports pitches.
Adam has been at Radley for 17 years, and is responsible for the maintenance of the huge 800 acre site which includes a tenanted farm and a 9-hole golf course as well as the numerous natural and synthetic pitches. Sports played at the College include rugby in the Michaelmas Term, hockey, rowing and football in the Lent Term and cricket, rowing, lawn tennis and athletics in the Summer Term.
“We have 694 boys at Radley and sport is a major part of their life,” says Adam. “The campus is incredibly busy and the pitches are in use all-year round. We host 26 rugby teams, 16 football teams, 22 hockey teams and 24 cricket teams each year.”
Adam has a large team to help him with the mammoth work required to keep the facilities to the impeccable standards expected by Radley College. There is a total of 18 grounds
staff including Adam, which consists of eight groundsmen, two greenkeepers and seven gardeners.
The team has strict maintenance procedures in place and, according to Adam, ICL products play an integral role.

Irrigation best practice at Trentham Golf Club
Implementing moisture level monitoring, updating controllers with the latest software and frequently applying evolving course setup conditions to your irrigation programmes, all contribute to responsible and sustainable management of your golf course.
Ed Stant, course manager at Trentham Golf Club near Stoke-on-Trent, explains how recent changes to his irrigation management are paying dividends.
“We opted for the intuitive Toro Lynx control system with 170 Infinity series greens, approaches and surrounds sprinklers,” he said. “Having the right technology greatly aids professional irrigation management, but getting the most out of it is a skill in itself, and for me it all starts with monitoring soil moisture levels. I use a HH2 Moisture Meter probe and its readings depends on what irrigation I apply.”
Knowing the exact conditions your turf’s health faces will lead to more informed and ecological decisions, as you will only use the water needed to sustain it. Couple this with an intuitive control system which can be accurately tailored to precise conditions and requirements, means you have even more control over water consumption and sward health. This is integral to good irrigation practice as every area of turf can be different.
“We’ve also put a lot of time and effort into killing the coarse rye grass around the greens surrounds and that meant a lot of specific watering of the affected areas,” he adds. “Being able to water-in just the top-dressing or apply water where overseeding and spreading herbicide, has greatly aided the process, allowing us to also be far more water efficient than we could have previously been.”
Another factor contributing to improved efficiency and one of
Adding to this efficient irrigation at Trentham Golf Club is the fact that the club is also sustainable. At the same time as the irrigation system installation a 42m borehole was put in and seeing as the club does not exceed its limit, it means free water for irrigation purposes.

Special secondary school gets basketball court
A basketball court at a Hampshire special school is up and running after a £4.4m project of remodelling and refurbishment.
The main works were completed in August by W Stirland, a privately-owned construction company near Chichester.
They involved the conversion and extension of the existing Victorian school building at Linden Education Centre in Aldershot, creating teaching accommodation for 92 secondary age pupils who are unable to attend main stream school because of emotional or behavioural reasons
Farnham-based PRO Fencing, the fencing division of WL West & Sons Ltd, installed the
basketball court using 3m-high Duo8 steel fencing from Zaun Ltd, with matching 1.2m-high spectator railings to one side.
Duo8 forms a robust play area that is highly durable, low maintenance and ‘graffiti-proof’, and rubber inserts between panels and posts to keep ‘rattle’ during play to a minimum.
Linden Education Centre caters for students aged 11–16 whose behavioural problems have resulted in them being permanently excluded from a mainstream school, or who are in danger of being excluded.
The aim is to re-integrate students aged 11–14 into a mainstream school. Older students, especially those in Year 11, invariably complete their education at the centre before moving on to further education.

New pesticidal disease management from Headland Amenity
The withdrawal of some popular turf fungicides has made it essential that greenkeepers look for ways to minimise plant disease by using a variety of other strategies.
Producing a grass plant that is strong and healthy is more likely to make it difficult for disease to take hold and Headland Amenity will be focussing on this approach on stand B39 at BTME.
Headland’s Technical Support Team will be on hand to discuss disease management that has been trialled, researched and proven to benefit Turf Managers.
Research has supported the introduction of Headland’s ‘20-2030’ tank-mix of plant protectants and elicitors – namely Seamac ProTurf, Liquid Turf Hardener and Turfite – a unique combination of nutrients working together to strengthen the plant against disease.
Further trials and research have shown additional benefits with TeMag Elite, a soluble micronutrient product with added iron and Harpin plant elicitor to stimulate the plants natural defence mechanisms, aiding growth through periods of stress, disease and/or nematode damage.

Creating a passport to pitch perfection
Garry Martin, Managing Director of synthetic turf maintenance specialists Replay, explains to Paul Groves how leadingedge technology can take professional groundscare into a bright new future.
It is no insult to say Garry Martin is a man with his head in the Cloud. Far from it, as it puts him at the forefront of the drive to show the professional groundscare industry just how positive the impact of new technology can be.
He has his hands full in his quest. Change is not something any of us are always happy to embrace and the kind of technology Garry is talking so enthusiastically about is often regarded as a threat to the industry.
But Replay’s innovative PitchPassport 365 system is literally a game-changer when it comes to synthetic turf maintenance.
Garry is always a man in a hurry, yet he has needed to display a lot of patience in the development of the new technology. Working with experts in web and cloud-based
technology, the PitchPassport 365 system has taken a lot of detailed research and fine-tuning but is already proving that all the effort, resources and investment has been worth it.
“With PitchPassport 365 we now have a tool that not only streamlines our operations but offers tracking and traceability of works that has never previously been available,” he explains.
“This enhances health, safety and asset protection and removes grey areas and burden of proof.
“Using the metrics obtained from the many features of PitchPassport 365, Replay and the industry as a whole can use the information to enhance future offerings.”
Unveiled at the University of Nottingham, award-winners in the maintenance of synthetic sports surfaces, PitchPassport 365 is set to revolutionise the recording and traceability of synthetic turf maintenance and become the benchmark for the industry and beyond.
PitchPassport 365 is designed to provide full integration between the manufacturer, installer, maintainer and the facility, collating historical, current and predictive maintenance information for all types of synthetic surfaces. Featuring online and offline functionality, all pertinent information and reports relating to the facility can be reported as the maintenance visit is taking place utilising livestream monitoring technology. The data can then be accessed securely, anywhere at anytime from your inbox or dedicated client portal app.
Amongst the many key features is the usage calculator and heat mapping technology
which uses an embedded algorithm to produce a dedicated map of the pitch, showing the high-wear areas of the facility in question. The information gathered by the tool can then be used in-house or by the external maintainer to ensure maintenance efforts are engaged effectively. This can also be used to diagnose and schedule maintenance to resolve potential issues before they become major concerns.
Through the app, the facility can view scheduled maintenance visits using the calendar function, including a thorough description of the work (to be) carried out and any job notes specific to the surface.
The maintainer can then edit the job live from the site, submitting photos, documents or notes from their visit creating a comprehensive maintenance report. Another feature, ReplayRescue, gives the operator the ability to report any urgent matters instantly using a red or amber alert to highlight the need for further action.
And it is not just what PitchPassport 365 can do now that excites Garry and his team. It is how the technology can evolve that offers the greatest challenge. Information is one of the most valuable assets we can possess these days as it can be accessed with a quick flick of a finger.
“We will be continuing to develop this system but also look at ways this technology can be improved and expanded,” he adds. “We will feed this information to our clients, to groundscare professionals, to manufacturers, to anyone who can make use of it, and see where it takes us.
“We have developed something that will genuinely revolutionise our industry from the inside out.” It is not only PitchPassport 365 that Replay is investing in. Its existing services and machinery are also being upgraded and Replay is also looking to develop its staff too.
A large slice of that investment has been spent on developing a new version of Replay’s hugely successful Aquatrax unit which cleans athletics tracks and water-based pitches.
Aquatrax was used to great effect at the London 2012 Olympics and has now cleaned over four million square metres of surfaces.
Along with Replay’s Revive, Rejuvenation and AquaCourt services, the company is looking to constantly improve and enhance the quality of artificial surfaces.

Verti-Drain helps contractors meet all customer needs
Versatility and adaptability are the needs for R J Jochimsen Contractors Ltd – and, in the area of aeration, a Verti-Drain and a pair of Verti-Quakes from Charterhouse Turf Machinery fit the bill.
Formed in 1986, MD Rob Jochimsen undertakes various maintenance and renovation projects for councils, utility companies and sports clubs in the West Sussex area - with no two days the same.
Now heading up a team of 7, Rob started off his working life in the agricultural market before deciding to move into the amenity sector over 30 years ago.
“Week to week we’ll be working on different surfaces – football, rugby, polo fields, gallops, which all require different maintenance techniques but aeration is one that goes across the board,” he said.
“Having the two different machines and working them in conjunction with one another,
means that no matter the requirement, conditions or sports surface we’re dealing with, we have the machine to suit.”
Their Verti-Drain 7626 is now into its 5th season. “We chose this machine initially as it was a good match for our tractor and since then it’s proved to be a real workhorse,” he added.
“The weight of the unit means it penetrates the surface, rather than bouncing over it like some other machines do. Spring and autumn/winter are peak times for the Verti-Drain, though it’s used whenever conditions allow.”
With the Verti-Drain 7626 taking care of the deep aeration work, the pair of Verti-Quake 2516’s work on compaction within the top 6 to 8 inches.
“These come into their own when the ground is too firm or when the surface is wet, requiring lighter units to be used. The smaller, lighter Verti-Quake 2516 runs on a compact tractor, which gives us the flexibility when assessing customer requirements to choose the most effective machine to use.”
“Another plus point for us is the range of tine options available. We’ve been working on some polo fields this year, using 1/2inch finger tines but we also carry tines right up to those suitable for hollow coring.”
Final word from Rob: “These machines give us the versatility to deal with whatever surface comes our way, and even more importantly than this, the customers are pleased with the work they do.”

Wiedenmann Terra Spike GXi8 HD puts Williamwood GC ahead
Williamwood Golf Club has had a Wiedenmann Terra Spike GXi8 HD deep aerator in sight for several seasons.
This autumn, a well subscribed winter membership initiative finally made it a reality for the west of Scotland course.
“Increased demand for winter play heightened the need to keep the course open,” said
Course Manager, Gerry Bruen. “The Wiedenmann is our tool of choice to make that happen.”
The James Braid designed parkland course is nestled in the outskirts of south Glasgow. Gerry Bruen and his team of five greenkeepers cope valiantly with above average rainfall to deliver a consistently high standard of surface.
“Everything about the GXi8 HD confirms how aerators have moved on. Set up takes minutes and not a morning. The depth and heave settings are tool free and can be set in seconds. You just adjust them to suit the conditions on the day. The machine has several shock absorption systems so there’s no shock transfer to the operator or tractor. Basically it’s just getting the gearing and speed right and off you go.
“We’re out and back within the weather windows. Last year to do one of the wider fairways took a full day and a half. Now it’s done thoroughly in less than one. Crucially our members are benefiting with less disruption.
After nine weeks we’re almost two full months ahead of where we would be normally with prep for next season. We haven’t allocated extra time. Aeration for us has become an altogether smarter operation.
The 1.8 metre wide is Wiedenmann’s most popular
Terra Spike, the access–all-areas status giving it the versatility to take tees, greens and fairways in its stride.
“Everywhere is scheduled for at least two passes before spring but key areas are earmarked for more. Never before could I have contemplated some of the fairways receiving three visits. In the coming months we will hollow core a few select spots to open the surface even further.”
Alan Jack, Area Sales Manager (West) for Fairways GM, Wiedenmann UK’s dealer in Scotland said: “Gerry knew exactly what he wanted. The GXi8 HD had his name on it from the start so our involvement has been to help him and his team become familiar and use the machine to best effect. His team is powering through so next season he’ll really be able to see a difference especially to his fairways.”
New life for old greens with Terrain Aeration
The original course at Hartley Wintney Golf Club dates back to 1891 when it was laid out as a traditional nine-hole parkland course.
An extra 9 holes were added in 2000 to offer a well laid out variation of both traditional and new designs.
Hartley Wintney GC has called on the services of Terrain Aeration.
Following preparation Terrain Aeration moved in with the specialist Superscamper Terralift deep penetration aeration system, working two metres apart, to blast air at 18 bar pressure to break up the compaction and panning.
Where the ground is exceptionally hard the specially incorporated JCB hammer drives the probe down to the one metre depth, where it releases the air blast, followed by the injection of dried seaweed. This serves to maintain the aeration to get oxygen to the grass roots and
continue to relieve compaction as the seaweed swells with moisture, keeping the fissures open. The compressed air exits through the previously created Verti-Drain slits.
Terrain Aeration has been treating golf courses, sports
pitches, amenity areas, trees and gardens for over 25 years using the Terralift deep penetration aeration system and have a long history of testimonies to the effectiveness of the treatment.

Promote growth with Plugr
The colder months can have a significant impact on gardens, even the best cared for of lawns can need a helping hand to encourage new growth and revitalise them.
A key way of doing this is through aeration. The days of traditional aerating with a garden fork are gone, particularly for owners of larger lawns.
Plugr aerators from Billy Goat offer a compact solution that can improve drainage and promote new growth with absolute ease. By making holes throughout the turf that allow air circulation through the roots, Plugr products help restore lawns to their perfect green condition.
Ideal for large domestic gardens is the PL1800 reciprocating aerator, which has an 18”
working width, along with four tines that puncture the turf and place cores 2.75” deep, aerating at 22,000 square feet per hour. With an easy folding handle it allows for compact use, transportation and storage.
Billy Goat products are exclusively available in the UK through Henton & Chattell dealers nationwide.

New York Red Bulls praises SISIS Osca
Dan Shemesh, Director of Stadium and Training Grounds for the New York Red Bulls has praised the SISIS Osca 3 which maintains the synthetic turf on one of the club’s training fields.
When Dan Shemesh was looking for a machine that would help take his synthetic turf to the next level, he found the solution in the form of the SISIS Osca 3 tractor mounted oscillating brush.
The SISIS Osca 3 is a tractor mounted powered oscillating brush with a 1.9 meter working width and is equally effective when used on synthetic turf with sand or rubber infill.
The two oscillating brushes stand the carpet fibers up and redistributes the infill evening, minimizing compaction on the surface and improving its performance – giving consistent
playing characteristics while preventing pile damage caused by reduced infill levels.
A contributory factor to the reduction of compaction is that the Osca’s working width will use fewer passes than other more conventional drag brushes to complete a pitch.
Its aggressive brushing action agitates the upper infi ll level
of the surface from side to side as well as brushing forward, helping reduce surface compaction and encourage the fi bers to stand up straight which reduces the risk of contamination, drainage problems and leaves a consistent playing surface across the whole pitch.

Significant World Cup turf investment to provide widespread benefits
International Hockey Federation (FIH) Official Global Supplier Polytan will shortly begin installation of two new stateof-the-art pitches at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre ahead of the Vitality Hockey Women’s World Cup London 2018.
The installation of their Poligras Platinum World Cup product at the venue, located within Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, will begin at the start of March and the second pitch will be completed in May 2018.
The £600,000 investment will provide widespread benefits
to the hockey community. It will not only give England and Great Britain’s national and development squads, university, school and hockey clubs world-class turfs to play on, it will also provide a number of environmental benefits. The investment further reinforces the benefi ts of the UK hosting major events and in the long term will bring more elite competition to the UK –for example the Hockey Pro League from 2019 onwards.
Polytan has spent considerable time and investment on developing a new turf product
specifically for next year’s Hockey World Cups being staged in England and India. It is an evolution of the turf used at the Rio 2016 Olympics Games which proved extremely popular with athletes and spectators. The new turf however uses denser fi bres to create a faster playing surface.
Polytan’s significant investment through its FIH Global Supplier status has been further supported by Lee Valley Regional Park Authority and the Vitality Hockey Women’s World Cup London 2018 additional funding partners -
England Hockey, UK Sport and the Greater London Authority.
FIH has been working hard to align the Hockey Revolution strategy to Olympic Agenda 2020 recommendations around environmental impact of sports events. Consequently, FIH has put particular focus on sustainability in the Quality Programme for Hockey Turf. One of the key environmental benefits resulting from the development of this new product is that it will require up to one third less watering compared to the previous turf.
FIH CEO Jason McCracken said: “Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre is already a topclass facility - the installation of this innovative new product will make it one of the best hockey venues on the planet. Athletes participating in next year’s Vitality Hockey Women’s World Cup London 2018 and in the Hockey Pro League in 2019 will be given the perfect stage to showcase their talent. However, what makes hockey so special is that this same field will also benefit athletes of all levels, therefore community investment is hugely important.”

Move to artificial pitch helped by Chaterhouse solution
After 66 years at their previous home, Mill Field, Aveley FC’s new £4.8 million stadium complex at Parkside is just a stone’s throw away.
A full-size 3G artificial pitch is at the heart of the club’s new state-of-the-art facility and they have invested in an RTC Brush unit from Charterhouse Turf Machinery to maintain the pitch and protect and perfect the synthetic surface.
The club is home to 21 youth teams, a 1st team, reserve team, academy training and games as well as opening its doors to a couple of community clubs. With no dedicated grounds team, the maintenance falls into the hands of Chief Executive Craig Johnson. “When the carpet was installed, I asked the fitters for their advice on what kit they recommend we look at and the RTC unit was top of their list” explains Craig.
The RTC has been developed with regular brushing in mind, the tractor and brush combination allows the operator to quickly and effectively brush surfaces, ensuring regular maintenance is carried out with ease.
The RTC brushes fold to allow storage and access through gaps as narrow as 90cm, though when folded out the unit will cover an impressive 200cm in one-pass. Powered by a 24hp twin cylinder engine, the brushes can also be lifted from the operators seat giving the user complete control of the pressure applied.
“I’m going out on it every week at the moment, which is after roughly 15 hours of play. It’s simple to use and is doing a great job of keeping the infill free of debris and compaction.
“The 3G pitch will hopefully be a healthy revenue stream for us so it’s in our interests to keep it looking and playing at its best – but without a grounds team I need a maintenance regime that’s time-efficient and effective and the RTC unit is just the job.”

Oxford United installs leading brand of artificial grass
ArtificialGrass.com has installed a winning indoor surface in the home changing room at Oxford United.
The leading UK supplier provided a mini pitch of inlaid grass flooring, creating a ‘virtual’ setting designed to boost team tactics on match days.
The new mini pitch is thought to be the first of its kind in the English Football League.
Covering an area of around five by 15 metres, the mini pitch installation was part of investment in the general refurbishment of Oxford United changing rooms during the preseason period.
With the club currently sitting in the top half of League 1, Oxford United Business Development Manager Peter Rhoades-Brown has high hopes for the rest of the season and is pleased with the positive effect of the new mini pitch on the level of play so far.
“Our players really like the new surface. It not only brightens up the changing room area, but is also of valuable practical use; in particular being ideal for developing tactics and set-pieces, as well as rethinking moves at half time. I think we are the first club to have gone down this route and all good so far.”
There is an increasing trend for artificial turf across the UK and
demand is rapidly growing for ArtificialGrass.com products.
Available exclusively through builders’ merchants, ArtificialGrass.com offers a range of products suitable for residential and commercial installation, including schools and play areas, providing a natural-looking, lush, green surface with all the benefits of real turf, without any upkeep. It leaves no trace on removal, even after years of installation and sports logos can also be incorporated into almost all ArtificialGrass. com surfaces, to any scale.
Peter Toghill, Commercial Director at ArtificialGrass.com said: “This is an exciting time for us, as we are experiencing substantial growth with a rapid increase in demand for artificial grass.
“We work hard to provide our high quality artificial grass for industry professionals. The Oxford United installation demonstrates the amazing versatility of ArtificialGrass. com, not just for lawns. We wish the club every success this season and believe the initiative could lead the way for other clubs seeking to improve their status.”

Strain relief kit converts Terra Rake to synthetic use
An optional ‘strain relief’ kit is available and can be retro-fitted.
Mountable to the top of the frame, it features a spring assister which provides a parallel load path to take tension away from the four rows of tines. With seven separate settings it can readily be amended to suit.
The 5 mm diameter spring tines on the Terra Rake are made of tungsten steel are very fine and agile. When they move at speed
over natural turf they tease out thatch incredibly well.
If a synthetic pitch get lots of play and is infrequently maintained the rubber crumb binds together and becomes compacted. This leads to reduced shock absorption and over time the drainage can become affected and the carpet might need to be replaced sooner.
The Terra Rake’s spring tines are designed to loosen and tease the infill particles or rubber crumb apart. This instantly improves the shock absorption values and helps returns it back to the required standard.

A second GreenMech machine helps meet demand
Luscombe Plant Hire, based in Ulverston, Cumbria, stock a wide range of site machinery and tools available for daily, weekly, or long-term hire.
After noticing that their GreenMech Arborist 130 woodchipper was hardly ever in the yard, owner Simon Luscombe decided to add a second one to his hire fleet to meet the consistent demand.
Simon and wife Beverly, along with their son Dan, started Luscombe Plant Hire in 2001 and this year they were proudly awarded the “Outstanding Single Depot Hire Company” at the EHN Passionate Hirer Awards. “We have a full range of tools and machinery from a wallpaper
stripper right up to 8-tonne excavators as well as an onsite shop selling fittings, workwear and smaller tools” explains Simon. “The arborist side of things is quite a large part of our business, so being able to offer good quality, reliable chippers that work well is very important for us.”
They first came across the machines at the annual Executive Hire Show. After initially purchasing just one, the client base of tree surgeons, land owners and grounds managers meant the demand was more than they could supply so they added a second unit. “Since we’ve switched over to the GreenMech chippers, we’ve not had one bad report on them – our customers
seem much more satisfied. They go out on hire for anywhere between one day to one month and everyone who hires them, say they’re really good machines to use. There has been no downtime due to breakdowns which, when you’ve got a packed hire schedule, is crucial.”
The Arborist 130 is a simpleto-use, cost effective, compact road tow chipper, featuring a
generous 970mm x 790mm infeed hopper, which aids bushy brash reduction, coupled with a 150cm x 230cm letterbox-style throat. The 23hp Honda petrol engine is protected with a steel bonnet, helping to reduce the noise level. It comes with a hand brake, overrun braking system and GreenMech’s patented DiscBlade technology as standard.

Hyundai machines feature at the 58th Annual Doe Show
The 58th annual Doe Show will be held on Tuesday 6th, Wednesday 7th and Thursday 8th February 2018 at the Ernest Doe dealership located in Ulting, Maldon Essex.

first launched in 2015 – they were met with high acclaim and put Hyundai construction equipment firmly on the map for quality and innovation – leading industry press pundits hailed the new HX range as ‘a real game changer’.
Now in 2018 – the HX range continues to grow as does its popularity in the UK market place. With large infrastructure projects taking place in and around the UK – Hyundai dealers are preparing for a surge in the demand for the South Korean manufactured machines.

Start 2018 with finance deals for TYM Tractors
With the challenge of keeping a vast range of environments looking their best all year round, the organisation has invested in the versatility of a Toro LTF3000 triple flail mower.
This is a first-time Toro purchase for Countrywide Grounds Maintenance franchise owner Andrew Gilliar. Andrew explains that it feels like the machine has been perfectly designed to match his needs: “With such a diverse client list ranging from schools and councils to commercial estates, the LT-F3000 is designed to meet our current business needs.
“We needed a machine versatile enough to deliver a consistently good cut to sites of all shapes and sizes, regardless of grass type, grass length or weather conditions. This is what you get from the LT-F3000.
“It can deliver a 22-25mm cut on school playing fields and sports facilities and leave a nice finish with stripes. At the same time, the
height of cut can be adjusted to suit longer rough cut grass sites, like council verges, industrial estates, or nature pathways. The latter can be cut on a cycle of 16 weeks, but the LT-F3000 will still cut through this grass easily and leave a good finish.”
With the grounds of over 104 schools across Suffolk and Essex to maintain, the machines in Andrew’s fleet must be able to keep up. The LT-F3000 certainly does that: it is in operation eight hours a day, five or six days a week.
Andrew says: “We have a team of three using the triple flail and they absolutely love it. It’s comfortable and easy to maintain thanks to accessible service points. One operator said that ever since we invested in the mower, it’s been even more of a pleasure to come to work.”
And with another LT-F3000 on order it’s safe to say Countrywide’s Toro purchase has been a first rate success, with the LT-F3000 proving itself as a versatile mower – the perfect match for a versatile company.

Kicking 2018 off with a bang, Reesink Turfcare announces two new finance deals for TYM Tractors.
TYM customers can choose between two interest-free options. Option one is buy now pay in June 2018, with full payment due at that point. The second option spreads the cost over two years with 22 equal monthly payments.
TYM sales manager Steven Haynes says: “These finance options are designed to help customers buy the tractors they need without compromising cash flow, allowing them to replenish or add to their fleet of turfcare equipment in a way that suits their financial situation.
“The TYM range in the UK underwent some healthy expansion in 2017 and its continued popularity saw Reesink Turfcare invest heavily in the brand, bringing more choice to customers:
more product launches, more attachments and more investment in the sales team. 2018 follows suit as soon as we enter the year, with more options for customers to purchase TYM.”
These finance deals apply to the entire range of TYM tractors, from the smallest to the largest horsepower and includes the latest model to join the range –the T393.
This newcomer is already appealing to a broad range of customers for its ideal positioning, bridging the gap in the TYM line-up from the compact utility range into the mid-duty range.
Both deals are available from 2 January until 2 March 2018 and apply to a maximum of 60 percent of the RRP. Finance is subject to acceptance and only available in the UK.

Bow top metal railings installed within Lake District National Park
Bow top metal railings manufactured by Alpha Rail have been installed within ‘The Glebe’ - a popular destination in the world-renowned Lake District National Park.
The Glebe is a large recreational area, located south-west of Bowness-on-Windermere town centre and forms part of the town’s main tourist attraction.
The recreational area comprises tennis courts, a pitch and putt, a picnic area and a number of commercial properties.
The Lake District National Park Authority (LDNPA) had identifi ed The Glebe as a strategic regeneration location and wanted to develop the area as a world class visitor destination.
Research had found that moving vehicles and parked cars were significantly detracting the visitor experience. Therefore, a key objective of the improvement
scheme was to make the area safer for pedestrians and cyclists.
Alpha Rail was contracted to manufacture and install bow top metal railings, vertical bar railings and metal gates to a number of locations within The Glebe as part of the plan to create
a safer, more pedestrianised focused environment.
Phil Ball, Sales Director at Alpha Rail commented, “We were proud to play our part in a project where our metalwork products have contributed towards increasing
the pedestrianised areas of such a busy tourist destination. We ensured the metal railings met the technical specification perfectly and were installed on time as promised.”

New TYM compact and range of attachments AT LAMMA
Reesink Turfcare showcased all that is new to TYM Tractors at LAMMA 2018.
The new T393 compact tractor was there, as will a selection of the new range of attachments, all of which offer even more versatility and value to every tractor.
Bridging the gap from the compact utility range into the mid-duty range is the T393. With a 38hp Yanmar engine it’s powerful but compact, and more than capable of managing the small and large jobs. It has one of the highest lift capabilities in its class with a lift capacity of 1200kg and has one of the highest hydraulic flow rates with a maximum output of 42 litres per minute.
There are two transmission options including a three range
equipped with a new ‘Auto Throttle’ function, linking the HST pedals to the engine throttle to synchronise the tractor’s speed and engine rpm. This simplifies tractor operation and reduces fuel consumption.
Tractors are of course designed as implement carriers. New to TYM, and the show, is a range of attachments designed to bring even more value, versatility and productivity to the machine.
