There’s only one month remaining in the semester and I hope that everyone is ready for the summer to begin. Our Student Government has had an amazing semester thus far and we look forward to some of our biggest events coming up in the next month. Included in this issue is a calendar of all the events that Student Government will host. Remember that everything is free for students so please stop by and join in on the fun.
If you haven’t found a club that has caught your interest, stop by the SGA office (SC 122) and get information on how to start up your interest club. Our door is always open!
I would like to take this opportunity to highlight an event SGA will co-sponsor in April, “The Vagina Monologues.” Tickets for this production are being sold at the Student Government Office and will also be sold at the door; $5 for students/staff/faculty and $7 for community members. One hundred percent of
the proceeds will be donated back to charity. The Family Crisis Center in Harlingen will be our highlight charity for this production.
“The Vagina Monologues” is a global movement whose purpose is to raise awareness about violence against women and girls, as well as raise money for local beneficiaries that are working to end violence. For more information on V-Day, please visit www.vday.org. This will be the first year TSTC Harlingen will host this event so come out to the Cultural Arts Center on April 7 & 8 to support the cause. The production will begin at 7 p.m. on both nights. Hope to see you all there!

ENTERTAINMENT for your
Movie Reviews
Australia S
o this was a movie that I was a bit sketchy about watching. I went in with mixed expectations. First off, it was directed by the same guy who had done “Moulin Rouge!”, Baz Luhrmann. That didn’t bother me too much.
Rated PG-13 - 2 hr 45 min Action / Adventure Rating: 4.25/5
This movie itself was very massive. I felt like I was watching the Titanic pass by. Visually it was very colorful. It gleamed as well as portrayed the other side of the spectrum of muted and murky colors. The director really took advantage of the land. There were many wide shots and others of the sun just splashing landscapes.
by Lorenzo Garcia, DMDT
The character development was very three-dimensional and I was emotionally entangled numerous times.
The story was well done, inasmuch keeping me in and its manner of doing so for the duration of 2hrs 30min, was like a roller coaster. It rose and dipped, but not annoyingly. Well, not to myself at least. Each dip in the story lured you to the next. It almost seemed as if characters would not let the story end without a fight. All in all, the movie is long, but quite an adventure. It is definitely a theatrical masterpiece and I would recommend it to those who enjoy a good story. Sorry, no fast cars or robots in this one.
The movie, as I left, much felt like a play. There were different acts to where the story would take you in a different direction just as one closed. I can see where this would annoy many people, but I was very intrigued.
Gran Torino F
irst of all, I’d like to start out that if you’ve ever seen a Clint Eastwood film and loved it, this is for you. Clint Eastwood’s acting style doesn’t really change much for this movie. I normally find actors who are stuck in one character annoying, but I think Eastwood’s gruff voice and steely narrowed eyes are actually amusing.
Rated R - 2 hr 45 min Drama / Crime Rating: 3.75/5
In Gran Torino, he plays a Korean War veteran that under all his hardened [and very prejudiced and foul-mouthed] exterior, he still manages to evoke sympathy in the end. Of course, all it takes is a friendship with his Hmong neighbors to soften his character and redeem himself from his past.
While I found Eastwood’s performance to be pretty good, I think his supporting actors could have done a little better. Besides Ahney Her, I thought the rest of the actors were quite dull. I don’t blame them entirely, though. Clint Eastwood would also intimidate me if I was under his direction. 10

by Laura Amaro, DMDT
Another qualm I had with this movie was that it seemed like all the action happened in the last 45 minutes or so. The movie itself was just barely over an hour, but it somehow seemed to drag on a bit.
Overall, I really enjoyed this film. I definitely recommend it for anyone looking for something with crime and drama, but still want a heartfelt and touching story added to the mix.

The Accountant’s Story
I’m Perfect, You’re Doomed
by Roberto Escobar
by Kyria Abrahams
Arguably the largest and most successful criminal enterprise in history, at times the Medellin drug cartel was smuggling 15 tons of cocaine a day, worth more than half a billion dollars, into the united States.
I'm Perfect, you're doomed is the story of Kyria Abrahams's comingof-age as a Jehovah's Witness.
roberto escobar knows - he was the accountant who kept track of all the money.
raucously funny, deeply unsettling, and written with scorching wit and deep compassion, Abrahams’story explores the ironic absurdity of growing up believing that nothing matters because everything's about to be destroyed.
