TSTC students have more public transportation options as the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council expands existing bus routes to directly service the college.
New extensions to the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council’s bus routes through western Cameron County and San Benito will allow students originating in La Feria, Santa Rosa and San Benito to take direct trips to the TSTC campus. The new system will improve students’ ability to make bus connections throughout Cameron, Hidalgo and Willacy counties.
Students taking advantage of the route extensions will be able to board buses on any of the six scheduled runs each day. The western Cameron County and San Benito routes will use the new bus shelters in front of the college’s new University Center on Loop 499. Students who present valid college identification pay 75 cents and transfers are free; adults pay $1.50 per ride. Riders should pay with exact change. Frequent rider discount passes are $10 for students, senior citizens, persons with disabilities and veterans, and $20 for adults. Twenty trip passes can be obtained by calling 800.574.8322, and the passes will be sold in the TSTC Bookstore. All buses are wheelchair accessible and some are equipped to carry bicycles.
Cost to Student: $.75 per ride Cost to Adults: $1.50 per ride

You hear it on the news ever y day how the impor tance of an education in today’s economy is so vital to one’s future . It’s unfortunate to hear of the
many people losing their jobs, but in light of this misfortune many folks are returning to the classroom and hitting the books to better themselves and then return to the job market in a comeback fashion. Serving in the military has its educational benefits, providing its service members with tuition assistance and the Montgomery GI Bill. And, the great state of Texas has blessed its citizens who are military veterans with the Texas Hazelwood Act which exempts its former members of the armed forces from 150 college credit hours! However, none of this would be possible for the students of Texas State Technical College without the assistance of Steve Guevara. A former mechanized infantry soldier who served four years in the Army from the heartland of Texas at Fort Hood in Killeen to the outskirts of Germany, this man knows a thing or two about selfless service. As a veterans certifying official he meets with up to 200 new military students, spouses, and their dependents per semester seeking his assistance to utilize these benefits.
FOR ADDITIONAL SUPPORT Veterans Support Group
Offers support with Veteran concerns and issues. Meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month at 12PM in the LRC. Led by Anna Castillo, LPC from Tropical Texas Behavioral Center in Edinburg. For more information call 956.364.4310.
Veteran Student Alliance Club
Provides outreach and assistance for the needs and goals of our Veterans, while providing service to our college and community. Meets on Thursdays at 12PM in Student Center Room 127. Contact Advisor Rey Burnias at 956.364.4317.
Mr. Guevara is a humble man who takes great pride in helping others. He is responsible for this task along with his primary duty as a system analyst to also advise other students about financial aid opportunities. While working full time to guide veterans and college students, Mr. Guevara worked toward a college degree. This past semester he earned a bachelor’s degree in Computer Information System Technology from the University of Texas at Brownsville. When retirement comes to the horizon for Mr. Guevara, his classic ride into the sunset will consist of sunny days on the golf course and long nights on the water fishing for the big catch. “The militar y was a great experience for me and I would recommend ever yone at least give it a shot at one point in their life.” – Steve Guevara Mr. Guevara or as I like to call him, Steve, has been instrumental in my stay here at TSTC and for that I would like to say thank you.

Summary
Thor (Chris Hemswor th), the god of Thunder, is known throughout the realms for his braver y and strength in battle . However, his actions soon ignite a war between the fear some Frost Giants and his home of Asgard. For his arrogance and pride, Thor is cast out of Asgard and banished to Ear th by his father and king, Odin (Anthony Hopkins). He is found in New Mexico by scientist Jane Foster (Natalie Por tman). Mor tal and power less, Thor must get back his hammer, Mjolnir, and reclaim what he has lost.
Analysis
Hemswor th is excellently cast as Thor! He resembles Thor, the comic book char acter, and he manages to convey his headstrong yet noble spir it. Hiddleston does an amazing job as Loki. He gives the god of mischief a great deal of emotional depth. The role of Odin was perfectly cast with Hopkins. Few other s are capable of playing the wise All Father. Perhaps the only problem with the casting is Jane Foster as Por tman because she was incredibly under used in this role.

Mustang Magazine | June 2011
The visuals for Thor are the film’s other highlight. The costumes are wonderfully tr anslated from the comics. Bifrost was inter preted surprisingly well for a rainbow br idge on which Thor and the Asgardians tr avel to other wor lds. Asgard, with its tower ing golden str uctures, is tr uly awe inspir ing and wor thy as the home of the gods. With all that is going for it, Thor still has major flaws. Development of most suppor ting char acter s did not meet high expectations of comic book fans. Volstagg? Fandral? Hohun? Sif? All are beloved character s in the comics but they are given little action, time and depth for the audience to connect with them. The relationship between Thor and Jane Foster is difficult to believe for the ver y same reason. More impor tantly, the film suffer s from a stor y and plot that could have been more intr iguing.
Conclusion
Thor is a ver y enter taining movie that will please fans and general audiences; it is ultimately about Thor’s journey toward humility and compassion. The movie also has a strong foundation in the relationship between brother s and that of a father and son.
Rating: 3 out of 5 Star s

INTERNET CHALLENGES Series Presents:
TheM i l k G a l l o n CHALLENGE
by Isaac Trevino
Hello and welcome to the Internet Challenge series! It is a place where I explain different dares found on the Internet. These are usually good as party games and such, and these were tested via Internet experimentation. Well, everybody, I have what some readers could interpret as some bad news. This could be my last article of the series. I will graduate in August so I plan to move on to bigger and better things when I get a job. In expectation of this, I have reserved the best challenge for last. I bring you the one Internet challenge that has been deemed by many medical doctors as IMPOSSIBLE. Alas, trying the impossible is what the Internet does best because the process generally leads to hilarious or interesting "fail" videos. But I digress. This challenge is called: THE MILK GALLON CHALLENGE! ::thunder claps:: As part of a safety precaution, I must warn you that trying this challenge is very, very stupid and may will lead to unwanted vomiting. We at the Mustang Magazine are not responsible for harmful or unpleasant outcomes. Scared yet? ;-)
The milk challenge is one that I am personally too afraid to try. The challenge goes as such: Dr ink 1 gallon of whole milk (NO, YOU C ANNOT USE 2 PERCENT.) in one hour. If you puke within the hour, you are disqualified. That seems simple, but it’s never REALLY that simple. Why? Answer: The human stomach does not have the capacity to hold one gallon of a fluid or beverage. If a person consumed one gallon of water, an individual would urinate most of the liquid, but since WHOLE milk has a lot of fat and protein the body can’t process the WHOLE milk fast enough for thorough digestion and nutrition utilization. Most human stomachs stretched to a certain point will trigger a vomit reflex and, thus, the person will throw up whatever happens to be in the stomach. So mister/miss reader, DO YOU have what it takes to try your luck at the milk challenge? ::thunder claps:: Whoa. Creepy. Anyway, I hope you do. Again, "fail" videos are funny and appreciated by viewers. Well, that’s it for me. GOODBYE!

New LRC Releases CHECK THE M OUT TODAY
10th Anniversary
by James Patterson and Maxine Paetro
Detective Lindsay Boxer's long-awaited wedding celebration becomes a distant memory when she is called to investigate a horrendous crime: a badly injured teenage girl is left for dead, and her newborn baby is nowhere to be found. Lindsay discovers that not only is there no trace of the criminals--but that the victim may be keeping secrets as well.
Lindsay's every move is watched by her new boss, Lieutenant Jackson Brady, and when the pressure to find the baby begins interfering with her new marriage to Joe, she wonders if she'll ever be able to start a family. With James Patterson's white-hot speed and unquenchable action, 10th Anniversary is the most deliciously chilling Women's Murder Club book ever.
Justice League: Generation Lost, Vol. 1 by Judd Winnick, Keith Giffen, and Various Illustrators
Members of the original JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL team must stop their former friend from destroying all of the world’s super-heroes in this graphic novel series that directly ties into BRIGHTEST DAY, the follow-up to the comics event of 2009, BLACKEST NIGHT.
Mind-controlling mastermind Maxwell Lord is targeting the old members of the defunct Justice League International. Now, surviving members Booster Gold, Captain Atom, Fire and Ice must stop him from destroying the entire super hero community.
Sixkill: Spenser Series #39 by Robert B. Parker
On location in Boston, bad-boy actor Jumbo Nelson is accused of the rape and murder of a young woman. From the start the case seems fishy, so the Boston PD calls on Spenser to investigate. The situation doesn't look good for Jumbo, whose appetites for food, booze, and sex are as outsized as his name. He was the studio's biggest star, but he's become their biggest liability. In the course of the investigation, Spenser encounters Jumbo's bodyguard: a young, former footballplaying Native American named Zebulon Sixkill. Sixkill acts tough, but Spenser sees something more within the young man. Despite the odd circumstances, the two forge an unlikely alliance, with Spenser serving as mentor for Sixkill. As the case grows darker and secrets about both Jumbo and the dead girl come to light, it's Spenser-with Sixkill at his side-who must put things right.
