Mustang Magazine | June 2012

It’s a long road to travel for a young boy in Harlingen seeking victories as a motorcycle racer to become the man at the top of a large construction company like SpawGlass. Joel Stone was born in McAllen and his parents, Doris and Joe L. Stone, moved to Harlingen when he was 5 years old. He graduated from Harlingen High School in 1982 and then Texas State Technical College Harlingen (TSTC) before he embarked on a career in construction that literally began at the bottom of the ladder.

I had built part of the motorcycle shop and I began to learn how to apply my skills at TSTC. Then, seeing my grandfather at work opened my eyes to more opportunities and it helped me realize my passion for a hands-on education.” Not everyone is prepared to advance straight from high school into a job or step directly upward from high school to a four-year university, he added, but two-year

I also had the self-confidence and optimism that I could succeed at the next level.”

Recently, he met with the SpawGlass board of directors at TSTC in the University Center, built with SpawGlass as the general design/builder. The building, the home of the Harlingen Economic “...two-year colleges like TSTC provide Development Corporation, the TSTC Community & Corporate alternate education-to-career paths that Education Office, and the South Texas Education Partnership that offer hands-on training techniques...” offers bachelor, master and doctoral degrees from eight universities, has Joel Stone left behind a motorcycle colleges like TSTC provide alternate earned regional, state and national shop, continually added to his education-to-career paths that offer awards for its design and energy education and today oversees hands-on training techniques that conservation features. Flower in the Valley by Joel Herrera

Been laying here so long Settled in the soil Shut my sleepy eyes and Drifted off into dreams I saw me sprouting roots And I stretched my face To see the sun but There’s nothing good in this dirt The rain is salty like frustration I want to wake Before I shrivel up And blow away I want to wake and Flee with the sun As he runs From winter and her Cold dead kisses.

2012 CONTEST WINNERS War Angel

by Jesus Chavez

Leave the hood; make it homie, that is what the wise will tell me. Innocence stained with death that is what the ghetto showed me.

I grab the mic, spin the record, and then start another show. Ignore the moon, man shoot for stars, and then watch it all explode.

No feelings in my heart and soul, I’m calloused in the head. Haters are like the regrets in my brain, everyone is dead.

Cold Pain... Hard Rain, Traumatized by fears! I’m wearing goggles on my face so I'm holding back my tears!

Your eyes are like a time machine now science just got cooler, People see your face and tell you that they see the future.

My Father was like time, the clock took his life; I'm not allowed to cry, invisible tears are in my eyes.

A way out through the hood is all I'm asking for! Bullet Rounds are like stripper booty’s bouncing off the floor!

Persevering through life's test! I'm hardened like a vest, Passion is burning in my heart like a bullet in my chest!

Wind of pain, ocean of sorrow is storming up inside Emotions like a hurricane I have felt a category five!

Sky is green; I look to the sky because money is the dream. Cash is dirty; money is red because it is filled with bloodshed!

This is wounded soldier music patching up your scars! Bullets dry the blood once they are burning in your heart!

Un-freaking believable!! Jesus is the antichrist! Blind them! Blind them!! Blind them!!! Even though they like the light!

I have seen the worst drugs lighting up a rebel! On their way to hell, their eyes are redder than the devil!

Born and bred to fight against the devil on my mind. God is up inside, Holy Light is on my side!

A life of quicksand, the ghetto is not what it seems! Life like a Coke bottle! It shattered like a dream!

I’m an angel chained and stuck in hell my days will waste away; Put me in that cycle and believe those chains are going to break!!
