Der Unterschied zeigt sich auf den ersten Blick. Wer durch Südtirols Weinlandschaft fährt, trifft auf gepflegte Rebanlagen, die sich sonnenverwöhnt an die Hänge schmiegen. Man sieht, hier ist jeder Weinbauer mit vollem Einsatz bei der Arbeit, produziert wird höchste Qualität. Doch damit nicht genug. Inmitten der Weinberge stechen zahlreiche schmucke Anwesen, historische Weingüter und prächtige Ansitze ins Auge. Sie unterstreichen: Wein hat eine lange Tradition in Südtirol. In der Tat wurde am Südbalkon der Alpen schon vor mehr als 3000 Jahren Weinbau betrieben. Bereits die Römer haben hier Wein an- und ausgebaut. Später kam es dann den Mönchen und der Geistlichkeit der süddeutschen Bistümer zu, in Südtirol dem Weinbau zur Blüte zu verhelfen. Besonders reich gesegnet mit historischen Gemäuern ist das Überetsch – von den nicht weniger als 400 Burgen, Schlössern und Ansitzen in Südtirol zählt das Weinbaugebiet südlich von Bozen rund 160. Es ist damit eine der burgenreichsten Gegenden Europas. Kein Wunder, dass hier Weinbau und Adel eng miteinander verbunden sind. Heute zeugen davon die zahlreichen Güter adeligen Ursprungs: Baron Widmann, Ansitz Kränzel, Weingut Manincor, Castel Schwanburg und viele mehr. Gemeinsam sind ihnen allen jahrhundertealte Mauern und Keller, in denen seit mehreren Generationen Wein gekeltert wird. Keller, in denen heute durchwegs der Wind der modernen Weinwirtschaft

weht. Auch das ist charakteristisch für Südtirols Weinwirtschaft: Alte Gemäuer bedeuten nicht automatisch eine altmodische Weinproduktion, im Gegenteil. In Südtirols historischen Weingütern treffen einige der ältesten Rebanlagen Europas auf HighTech-Kellertechnik und Winzer, die ihr Handwerk von A bis Z verstehen. Auf zwei traditionsreiche und auch auf die beiden größten Weinbaugemeinden – Eppan und Kaltern – kann das Überetsch verweisen. Aber nicht nur das: Mit dem „Überetscher Stil“ verfügt das Weinbaugebiet auch über einen eigenen historischen Baustil. Er ist stark beeinflusst von den venezianischen und toskanischen Baumeistern, die vor 500 Jahren im Überetsch wirkten. Erkennen lässt sich dieser Renaissance-Stil, der die Gestalt ganzer Dörfer prägt, an den Doppelbogenfenstern mit schlanker Mittelsäule, an den Steintreppen, Erkern und Loggias. Das wichtigste Bauelement war dabei der Sandstein. Typisch ist auch ein großer Mittelsaal, um den sich verschiedene kleinere Räume gruppieren. Nördliche und romanische Elemente verschmelzen im Überetscher Stil miteinander. Dasselbe kann vom Wein in Südtirol erzählt werden. Auch dieser wird von alpinen und mediterranen Einflüssen geprägt, vom milden Klima, vom Fleiß der Weinbauern in den Bergen, von einer gelungenen Symbiose zwischen Alt und Neu. In Südtirol treffen Kulturen aufeinander und begeistern Feinschmecker, Historiker und Weinliebhaber gleichermaßen. >

La differenza si vede fin da subito. Chi percorre i vigneti dell’Alto Adige incontra coltivazioni ben curate che si adagiano sui pendii soleggiati. Si nota che qui viene prodotta una qualità superiore dal grande lavoro di ogni viticoltore. Ma questo non è tutto. Tra i vigneti balzano agli occhi numerose, eleganti tenute, proprietà storiche e sfarzose residenze, le quali

evidenziano il fatto che in Alto Adige il vino vanta una lunga tradizione. In realtà, in questa zona soleggiata delle Alpi, la viticoltura era già praticata più di 3000 anni fa. Gli antichi Romani potenziarono questo tipo di coltivazione. Successivamente, i monaci e il clero delle diocesi del sud della Germania contribuirono a far fiorire la viticoltura in Alto Adige. Particolarmente ricco di rovine storiche è l’Oltradige – delle 400 residenze, castelli e dimore dell’Alto Adige, la regione vinicola a sud di Bolzano ne conta circa 160. Si tratta, quindi, di una delle zone più ricche di castelli d’Europa. Non c’è da stupirsi che qui la viticoltura e la nobiltà siano strettamente collegate tra di loro. Oggi lo testimoniano numerose proprietà di origine nobiliare, quali l’azienda agricola Baron Widmann, la tenuta

Kränzel, l’azienda agricola Manincor, Castel Schwanburg, ecc. Si tratta tutte di dimore e cantine, dove da più generazioni viene pigiata l’uva e in cui soffia senza eccezioni il vento della modernità che ha raggiunto il settore

vinicolo. Anche questa è una caratteristica tipica dell’Alto Adige: antiche dimore non significa automaticamente produzione di vino di vecchio stampo. Anzi, nelle storiche aziende agricole dell’Alto Adige, alcuni dei più antichi vigneti d’Europa si incontrano con la tecnologia high-tech e con i viticoltori che conoscono il loro lavoro nei minimi dettagli. L’Oltradige può puntare sulle due più grandi e ricche di tradizioni comunità viticole, Appiano e Caldaro. Ma non solo: la regione viticola presenta anche un proprio stile storico architettonico, fortemente influenzato dagli architetti veneziani e toscani che 500 anni fa operarono nell’Oltradige. Questo stile rinascimentale, che caratterizza la conformazione di interi paesi, si rivela nelle doppie finestre ad arco con montante centrale sottile, nelle scale di pietra, nelle vetrate e nelle logge. L’elemento costruttivo più importante è l’arenaria. Tipico è anche un grande salone centrale per raggruppare i diversi spazi più piccoli. Elementi nordici e romanici si fondono con lo stile del territorio. Lo stesso si può dire del vino dell’Alto Adige. Anch’esso si distingue per l’influenza derivante dal carattere alpino e mediterraneo, dalla mitezza del clima, dall’operosità dei viticoltori delle montagne e da una simbiosi perfetta tra vecchio e nuovo. In Alto Adige, le culture si incontrano le une con le altre ed ispirano in ugual misura buongustai, storici e amanti del vino.

A visitor to the vineyards in South Tyrol will notice the difference: the perfectly tended vines are set on steep hillsides. Here you understand that the superior quality of the wine is a direct result of the intense labour of each and every winemaker. Yet there is more: amid the vineyards, beautiful estates pop up, historical villas and luxurious residences that underscore the ancient tradition in South Tyrol. In this sunny area of the Alps, winemaking was practiced more than 3000 years ago. Ancient Romans improved upon this type of cultivation, then monks and clergy from the Southern German dioceses helped create a flourishing winemaking tradition in South Tyrol. Oltradige is rich in historic ruins- of the 400 residences, castles and houses of South Tyrol, the winegrow-

ing area south of Bolzano has approximately 160. In fact, it is the area with the highest concentration of castles in all of Europe. It’s no wonder that in this area, winemaking and nobles are closely connected. Numerous noble residences abound, such as the manor of Baron Widmann, the Villa Kränzel, the country farm Manincor, Castel Schwanburg, and others. These are homes and wine cellars, where for generations grapes were crushed and where the air of innovation has drifted to the winemaking sector. This is also typical of South Tyrol: ancient manors don’t automatically mean production of old-fashioned wines: on the contrary, the historic farming and winemaking traditions of Europe meet high technology and are enhanced by master winemakers with their keen eye to detail. Oltradige boasts two of the largest and richest areas with strong winemaking traditions: Appiano and Caldaro, but it doesn’t stop at wine: this region has its own architectural style, strongly influenced by Venetian and Florentine architects operating in Oltradige 500 years ago. This Renaissance style characterises entire

towns, and is evidenced in double arched windows with thin centre pillars, of stone staircases, windows and loggia. The most important constructive element is sandstone. Another typical feature is the grand central salon uniting smaller rooms. As Nordic and Roman design elements merge with the style of the territory, the same can be said of the wine of South Tyrol. This area distinguishes itself for its Alpine and Mediterranean character, for its mild climate, for the work ethic of the winemakers from the mountains, and the perfect mix of old and new. In South Tyrol, cultures meet and inspire gourmets, history buffs and wine lovers alike. ◊

REINHOLD MESSNER Reinhold Messner, 1944 in Südtirol geboren, bestieg bereits als 5-Jähriger seinen ersten Dreitausender. Nach seinem Technik-Studium an der Universität Padua verschrieb er sich ganz dem Bergsteigen. Ein Leben als Grenzgänger folgte. Seit 1969 unternahm er mehr als hundert Reisen in die Gebirge und Wüsten dieser Erde und schrieb vier Dutzend Bücher. Dabei gelangen ihm viele Erstbegehungen, die Besteigung aller 14 Achttausender sowie der „seven summits“, die Durchquerung der Antarktis, der Wüsten Gobi und Takla Makan sowie die Längsdurchquerung Grönlands. Heute hält er Vorträge und Seminare und arbeitet an verschiedenen musealen Projekten. Reinhold Messner, nato in Alto Adige nel 1944, già all’età di 5 anni scala le Tre Cime di Lavaredo. Dopo gli studi tecnici presso l’Università di Padova, si dedicò interamente alle scalate. Trascorse una vita oltreconfine. Dal 1969 ha effettuato più di un centinaio di viaggi per le montagne e i deserti della Terra ed ha scritto quattro

dozzine di libri. Successivamente arrivarono numerose prime scalate, la scalata di tutti i 14 ottomila e quella delle “seven summits”, la traversata dell’Antartide, del deserto del Gobi e del Takla Makla nonché la traversata longitudinale della Groenlandia. Die Wahrscheinlichkeit, dass jemand, der sich für das Thema Berg interessiert, noch nie etwas von Reinhold Messner gehört hat, ist verschwindend gering. Seit mehr als 30 Jahren gehört er nun schon zu den erfolgreichsten Bergsteigern der Welt. Ständig auf der Suche nach neuen Herausforderungen, bestieg er als erster Mensch alle 14 höchsten Gipfel dieser Erde. Über diesen Wagemut wurde weit über die Landesgrenzen hinaus berichtet. Bei jeder Expedition wagte er einen riskanten Grenzgang und begab sich – wenn auch mit Kalkül – in Todesgefahr. Reinhold Messner versuchte dabei aber nie Grenzen zu verschieben, sondern seine eigenen kennenzulernen. Seine Expeditionen wurden von vielen als Jagd nach immer neuen und waghalsigeren Unterfangen aufgefasst. Dies heimste ihm schon bald den Ruf ein, süchtig nach Ruhm und Erfolg zu sein. Dabei ging es ihm im Gegensatz zu modernen Abenteurern weniger um Rekorde als vielmehr um das Ausgesetztsein in möglichst unberührten Naturlandschaften mit einem Minimum an Ausrüstung. Messners Leben war aber auch von vielen Schicksalsschlägen geprägt. Der aufsehenerregendste war wohl der Verlust seines jüngeren Bruders Günther am Nanga Parbat. Es war aber gerade das häufige Scheitern, das ihn zu dem machte, der er heute ist. Immer wenn es in seinem Leben besonders schwierig wurde, ging er noch einen Schritt weiter, als er es ohne Widerstände und Probleme getan hätte. So sehr es ihn in die extremsten Lebensräume dieser Welt zog, ist er immer wieder gerne in seine Heimat zurückgekehrt. Zwischen seinen Expeditionen lebt er mit seiner Familie in Meran und auf Schloss Juval bei Naturns in Südtirol. Von sich selbst sagt er „Ich bin mit Leib und Seele Südtiroler“. Hier bewirtschaftet er Bergbauernhöfe, züchtet Yaks, eine zentralasiatische Rinderart, schreibt Bücher und widmet sich seinem Museumsprojekt „Messner Mountain Museum“ und der Stiftung „Messner Mountain Fundation“. Seine Bücher sind Bestseller und werden in mehr als 24 Sprachen übersetzt. Auch wenn ihm die Behörden bei der Realisierung der Museumskette viele Steine in den Weg legten, blieb Messner hartnäckig - genauso wie bei der Besteigung eines schwierigen Gipfels - und ließ sich von seiner Idee nicht abbringen. Im Vergleich zu den bürokratischen Hürden, welchen er im Zuge seiner Projekte begegnete, beschreibt er die bergsteigerischen Schwierigkeiten und Herausforderungen in seinem Leben als belanglos. Mit der bevorstehenden Eröffnung des fünften Sitzes auf Schloss Bruneck vervollständigt Reinhold Messner sein Museumsprojekt, welches er selbst als seinen 15. Achttausender bezeichnet. Jedes der fünf Museen verschreibt sich einem spezifischen Thema und ist in einen besonderen historischen und geografischen Kontext eingegliedert. Das Projekt stellt eine wichtige touristische Attraktion für Südtirol dar und ist gleichzeitig Kernund Angelpunkt einer Thematik, die weltweit vom kulturellen als auch thematischen Gesichtspunkt ihresgleichen sucht. Im Messner Mountain Museum gibt Reinhold Messner seine Erfahrungen, Emotionen und Geschichten, die in Summe das Bergsteigen ausmachen, an den Besucher weiter. Er will zeigen, was er dank seiner vielen Erfahrungen über die Beziehung zwischen Berg und Mensch gelernt hat. Es geht ihm um Dialog, um gemeinsame Geschichten sowie um das kulturelle Erbe des Alpinismus. In seinem Mosaik „MMM“ gibt Messner dem Besucher die Möglichkeit sich mit dem Thema Berg und mit fremden Kulturen auseinanderzusetzen. Der 5. Ableger

des Messner Mountain Museums auf Schloss Bruneck wird im Sommer 2011 eröffnet und ist den verschiedenen Bergvölkern dieser Erde gewidmet. Seit ihm 1970 einfache Bergbauern am Nanga Parbat das Leben gerettet haben, fühlt er sich eng mit den Menschen dort verbunden. Von sich selbst sagt er, dass er im Grunde seines Herzens immer Bergbauer war und bis heute geblieben ist. Auch mit seiner Stiftung MMF unterstützt er die Bewohner abgelegener Täler auf der ganzen Welt. Ein besonderes Anliegen sind ihm aber auch die Bergbauern in seiner Heimat. Die Landwirtschaft in den Bergen bezeichnet er als heilig, denn es sind die Bergbauern, welche die Landschaft pflegen, prägen und für die Gäste attraktiv gestalten. Laut Messner sind Berggebiete heute nur noch dort überlebensfähig, wo versucht wird Landwirtschaft, Tourismus, Umwelt und Gesellschaft miteinander in Einklang zu bringen. Denn wenn die Landwirtschaft in den Bergen aufgegeben wird, dann werden laut Messner auch andere Wirtschaftsformen, wie. z. B. der Tourismus, dort verschwinden. Man kann auf weitere Projekte gespannt sein, denn auch mit seinen 67 Jahren macht Reinhold Messner noch lange nicht den Anschein, sich zur Ruhe setzen zu wollen. Zurzeit ist er mit seinen beiden Vorträgen „Passion for Limits“ und „Die Dolomiten“ quer durch Deutschland unterwegs. La probabilità che qualcuno interessato al tema della montagna non abbia ancora sentito parlare di Reinhold Messner è infinitamente piccola. Da più di 30 anni egli è uno degli alpinisti di maggior successo al mondo. Costantemente alla ricerca di nuove sfide, è il primo uomo ad aver scalato tutte le 14 cime più alte della Terra. Questa impresa audace è ampiamente riportata oltre i confini nazionali. Nel corso di ogni spedizione egli ha osato una rischiosa escursione sul filo del rasoio, mettendo in pericolo – anche se tutto calcolato – la propria vita. Reinhold Messner ha cercato di porsi dei limiti, sempre comunque tentando di capire le proprie capacità. Le sue spedizioni sono state viste da molti come una continua ricerca di nuove imprese rischiose. Ciò gli ha permesso ben presto di avere fama di essere un uomo celebre e di successo. Questo va a contrapporsi ai moderni avventurieri quanto più i record sono ottenuti in incontaminate aree naturali con un minimo di attrezzatura. La vita di Messner è stata segnata anche da numerose vicissitudini. Quella che ha creato probabilmente più scalpore è stata la perdita del fratello minore sul Nanga Parbat. Ma è stata proprio questa grande mancanza che lo ha reso quello che oggi è. In ogni momento difficile della sua vita, egli ha deciso di compiere un ulteriore passo in avanti rispetto a ciò che avrebbe potuto fare senza resistenze e senza problemi. Tanto quanto è attirato da habitat naturali estremi del mondo, tanto più è semplice per lui tornare in patria. Tra una spedizione e l’altra egli vive con la sua famiglia a Merano e a Castel Juval a Naturno, in Alto Adige. Di se stesso dice “Io sono nel corpo e nell’anima altoatesino”. In Alto Adige gestisce aziende agricole, alleva yak, un bue dell’Asia centrale, scrive libri e si dedica al suo progetto museale “Messner Mountain Museum” ed alla fondazione “Messner Mountain Foundation”. I suoi libri sono bestseller e vengono tradotti in più di 24 lingue. Anche se le autorità lo hanno ostacolato nella realizzazione dei suoi musei, Messner ha mostrato tutta la sua tenacia – esattamente come nel corso di una salita di una cima difficile – e non è stato dissuaso

dalla sua idea. Rispetto agli ostacoli di ordine burocratico che ha incontrato nel corso dei suoi progetti, egli descrive le difficoltà e le sfide dell’alpinismo nel corso della sua vita come insignificanti. Con la prossima apertura della quinta sede al Castello di Brunico, Reinhold Messner ha completato il suo progetto museale, che egli descrive come il suo 15 ottomila. Ciascuno dei cinque musei si dedica ad un tema specifico ed è inserito in un particolare contesto storico e geografico. Il progetto rappresenta un’importante attrazione turistica per l’Alto Adige nonché fulcro e perno di una tematica senza eguali, il carattere mondiale delle culture. Nel Messner Mountain Museum, Reinhold Messner regala al visitatore esperienze, emozioni e storie legate al mondo dell’alpinismo. Egli desidera mostrare ciò che ha imparato, grazie alle numerose esperienze, in merito al rapporto tra uomo e montagna. Si occupa del dialogo, delle storie comuni e del patrimonio culturale dell’alpinismo. Nel suo mosaico “MMM” Messner dà al visitatore la possibilità di affrontare il tema della montagna e delle culture straniere. Il quinto dei Messner Mountain Museum al Castello di Brunico aprirà nell’estate 2011 ed è dedicato ai diversi popoli di montagna della Terra. Da quando nel 1970 semplici contadini del Nanga Parbat gli salvarono la vita, egli si sente molto legato con la gente del luogo. Di se stesso dice che in fondo a suo cuore è sempre stato un contadino di montagna e che lo è rimasto fino ad oggi. Anche con la sua fondazione MMF egli sostiene gli abitanti delle valli di tutto il mondo. Particolare attenzione rivolge, inoltre, ai contadini della sua patria. Egli definisce come sacra l’agricoltura nelle montagne, in quanto sono gli agricoltori di montagna che curano il paesaggio, rendendolo ricco di fascino ai suoi ospiti. Secondo Messner, le zone di montagna ancora oggi sono in grado di sopravvivere dove si cerca di creare affiatamento tra agricoltura, turismo, ambiente e società. Perché se l’agricoltura nelle montagne viene abbandonata, allora secondo Messner anche altre economie, come per esempio il turismo, scompariranno. Interessante sarà assistere ad ulteriori progetti, in quanto con i suoi 67 anni Reinhold Messner è ben lungi dal voler andare in pensione. Attualmente egli è in viaggio per la Germania con le sue due conferenze “Passion for Limits” e “Die Dolomiten”. The probability that someone interested in the theme of mountains has not heard of Reinhold Messner is incredibly small. For over 30 years he is one of the most successful mountaineers in the world. Constantly searching for new challenges , he was the first person to scale all 14 of the highest peaks in the world. This audacious task has been amply documented far and wide. In the course of each expedition he pushed himself to the limit, and even though well calculated, put his very life at risk. Reinhold Messner always tried to put limits on his undertakings, yet always extended them to test his capabilities. His expeditions were looked on by many as a continuing search of risky undertakings, allowing him to gain fame and success. This runs contrary to most modern adventurers because Messner’s records were obtained in untamed areas with the bare minimum of equipment. The life of Messner is also scarred with numerous setbacks. The one that caused the biggest stir was that of the death of his younger brother on Nanga Parbat. Yet it was this great loss that made him the man he is today. In every difficult moment of his life, he decided to take another step forward

beyond his normal limits. As he was attracted to a natural and extreme habitat it was very easy for him to return to his native land. Between one expedition and another he lives with his family in Merano and at Castel Juval in Naturno in South Tyrol. Of himself he says “ I am South Tyrolean body and soul”. In South Tyrol he manages a farm and raises yak from Central Asia, writes books and is dedicated to his museum project “Messner Mountain Museum” and the foundation “Messner Mountain Foundation”. His books are bestsellers and are translated in over 24 languages. Even though the authorities put obstacles in his path to create his museums, due to his tenacity – exactly the same used during a difficult ascent on a challenging mountain— he was never dissuaded from his idea. He came up against such bureaucratic obstacles during the course of his project that he considers his alpine challenges as insignificant in comparison. With the next opening of his 5th location in the Castle of Brunico, Reinhold Messner has completed his museum project that he describes as his 15th 8,000 metre ascent. Each of the five museums are dedicated to a specific theme inserted into a particular historical and geographical context. The project is an important tourist attraction as well as an unequalled central theme-- the world view of culture. In the Messner Mountain Museum, Reinhold Messner offers the visitor experiences, emotions and stories relating to the world of mountaineering. He wants to show what he has learned, thanks to numerous experiences, regarding the rapport between man and mountain. He is concerned with dialogue, with common stories and the cultural heritage of mountaineering. In his mosaic “MMM” Messner gives the visitor the possibility to confront the theme of the mountains and foreign cultures. According to Messner, the mountain areas are able to survive when a harmony is created between agriculture, tourism, ecology and society. Because mountain agriculture is being abandoned, according to Messner, other economies such as tourism will disappear as well. It will be interesting to watch his other projects—at 67 years of age Reinhold Messner is a long way from retirement. Mit der Eröffnung des fünften Sitzes auf Schloss Bruneck im Sommer 2011, vervollständigt er seinen „15. Achtausender“. Jedes der fünf Museen ist einem ganz spezifischen Thema gewidmet. Das Museumsmosaik vermittelt eine Gesamtheit des Alpinismus, welche 1786 mit der Besteigung des Mont Blanc begann. MMM Firmian, Bozen „Der Berg kann Menschen verzaubern, und das ist es was im MMM Firmian zu spüren ist.“ Reinhold Messner Das MMM Firmian auf Schloss Sigmundskron bei Bozen ist das Herzstück des Messner Moutain Museums. Hier wird die Verbindung zwischen Mensch und Berg thematisiert. Jedes Jahr beherbergt das Museum zudem auch eine Sonderausstellung. Das Angebot wird durch zahlreiche Vorträge sowie durch Veranstaltungen mit Musik, Tanz und Theater abgerundet.

Das auf 1900 Metern gelegene MMM in Sulden am Ortler ist unterirdisch angelegt. Es liegt unmittelbar unter den Eisfeldern und Séracs des Ortlers und ist dem Thema „Eis“ gewidmet. Der Besucher erhält einen Einblick in Skilauf, Eisklettern und Polfahrten und erfährt viel über die Gefahren, die das Eis in sich birgt. Des Weiteren besteht die Möglichkeit, die weltweit größte Sammlung von Ortler-Bildern zu bewundern. Im angrenzenden Restaurant Yak&Yeti können die Südtiroler Küche sowie Gerichte aus dem Schneeland Himalaja probiert werden.

MMM Dolomites, Cibiana di Cadore „Am Monte Rite, südlich von Cortina, galt es, einer militärischen Anlage aus dem Ersten Weltkrieg einen neuen Inhalt zu geben.“ Reinhold Messner Das MMM Dolomites liegt zwischen Pieve di Cadore und Cortina d’Ampezzo im Herzen der Dolomiten. Aufgrund seines atemberaubenden 360° Ausblickes auf die spektakulärsten Dolomitengipfel, wird es auch als das „Museum in den Wolken“ bezeichnet. Gewidmet ist es dem Thema „Fels“. Es erzählt die Erschließungsgeschichte der Dolomiten und beherbergt eine große Galerie einmaliger DolomitenBilder. Jährlich finden zudem zahlreiche Sonderausstellungen statt.

Messners Privatschloss, das Schloss Juval bei Naturns im Vinschgau, ist dem Mythos „Berg“ gewidmet. Hier sind mehrere Kunstsammlungen untergebracht, wie z. B. eine umfangreiche Tibetika Sammlung, eine Bergbildgalerie und eine Maskensammlung aus fünf Kontinenten. Zum Schloss Juval gehört auch das Weingut „Unterortl“ und der Biohof „Oberortl“, deren Produkte im „Schlosswirt“ verköstigt werden können. Die Idee hinter diesem Gesamtkonzept ist es, diese kleinräumige Südtiroler Kulturlandschaft zu erhalten und zu beleben.

MMM Ripa, Bruneck Nach längeren Restaurierungsarbeiten auf Schloss Bruneck, wird im Sommer 2011 das fünfte Messner Mountain Museum zum Thema „Bergvölker“ eröffnet. Unzählige Exponate zeigen die Lebensweisen der wichtigsten Bergkulturen der Welt auf, wie z. B. der Sherpa, Indios, Tibeter, Walser, Mongolen, Hunza usw. Reinhold Messner Per decenni Reinhold Messner ha raccolto agli estremi confini della Terra esperienze che desidera condividere con il visitatore nella sua serie di musei dedicati alla montagna, il Messner Mountain Museum. Con l’apertura nell’estate 2011 della quinta sede al Castello di Brunico, egli ha completato il suo 15 ottomila. Ciascuno dei cinque musei è dedicato ad un tema specifico. Il mosaico del museo offre una visione d’insieme dell’alpinismo, che ebbe inizio nel 1786 con la scalata del Monte Bianco. Situato a Solda, a 1900 metri di quota, il MMM è stato allestito in una moderna struttura sotterranea. Si trova nelle immediate vicinanze dei ghiacciai e dei crepacci dell’Ortles ed è dedicato al tema “ghiaccio”. Il visitatore si fa un’idea sul mondo dello sci, sull’arrampicata su ghiaccio e sulle spedizioni ai poli e impara molto in merito ai pericoli insiti nel ghiaccio. Presso la vicina cucina del maso Yak&Yeti potrete gustare le prelibatezze dell’Alto Adige e specialità himalayane.

Per la sua meravigliosa vista a 360° sulle spettacolari cime delle Dolomiti, viene chiamato anche “Museo nelle nuvole”. Il museo è dedicato al tema “roccia”. Racconta la storia dell’esplorazione delle Dolomiti e ospita una grande galleria con quadri e opere rappresentanti le Dolomiti. Ogni anno viene allestita una mostra temporanea.

Castel Juval, castello privato di Messner, nei pressi di Naturno, in Val Venosta, è dedicato al mito della “montagna”. Qui sono ospitate diverse collezioni, come per esempio una ricca collezione di cimeli tibetani, una raccolta di dipinti con vedute delle grandi montagne sacre e una collezione di maschere provenienti da cinque continenti. Fa parte di Castel Juval anche l’azienda agricola “Unterortl” e il maso agricolo biologico “Oberortl”, i cui prodotti possono essere gustati presso lo “Schlosswirt”. L’idea di base di tale concetto consiste nel conservare e ravvivare questo piccolo tesoro storico-naturalistico dell’Alto Adige.

MMM Ripa, Brunico Dopo lunghi lavori di restauro del Castello di Brunico, nell’estate 2011 verrà inaugurato il quinto Messner Mountain Museum dal tema “i popoli delle montagne”. Numerosi reperti mostrano gli stili di vita delle più importanti popolazioni di montagna, come per esempio gli sherpa, i tibetani, i mongoli, gli hunza, ecc. Insieme agli ospiti provenienti da diverse regioni di montagna, Messner desidera incoraggiare lo scambio di esperienze e dare al visitatore la possibilità di ottenere una visione d’insieme delle culture straniere.

summer of 2011, he has completed his 15th 8,000 metre ascent. Each one of the five museums is dedicated to a specific theme. The mosaic of the museum offers a vision of the cohesiveness of mountaineering that was initiated in 1786 with the ascent of Mt. Bianco. Awaiting visitors are experiences, emotions and stories linked with the world of mountaineering.

MMM Firmiano at Castel Firmiano, near Bolzano, is the heart of the Messner Mountain Museum. Here the themes concerning the mountains are covered regarding the link between man and mountain. Every year the museum hosts a temporary exhibit. A series of musical, dance and theatrical events rounds out the offer.

In the town of Solda, at 1900 metres, the MMM has been created in a modern underground structure. It is in the immediate vicinity of a Glacier and the crevices of Ortles and is dedicated to the theme “ice”. The visitor will get an idea of the world of skiing, of climbing on the ice, on expeditions to the poles and learn about the inherent perils of ice. At the nearby kitchen of the maso Yak&Yeti you can taste South Tyrolean and Himalayan specialties.

Rite, south of Cortina, it was necessary to add new content to a fort from World War I” Reinhold Messner MMM Dolomites is in the heart of the Dolomites, between Pieve di Cadore and Cortina d’Ampezzo. PAST & PRESENT Südtirol ist heute ein Paradies für Golfer, doch Golf hat hierzulande bereits eine über 100-jährige Tradition. Am Karersee, am Mendelpass und in Meran haben sich die Adeligen, Schönen und Reichen in herrlicher Landschaft beim Golfen eingefunden – und, wer weiß, vielleicht sogar Weltpolitik gemacht. 1886 wurde das Grandhotel Carezza feierlich eröffnet. Bereits 1904 wurde dann am Fuße des Rosengartens der erste Golfplatz errichtet. In Meran kam der Golfsport 1891 durch den russischen Großfürsten Michael in Mode. 1927 wagte schließlich auch der Luftkurort Mendel die Eröffnung eines Golfplatzes. Heute ist Golf längst kein Nischensport mehr. Golfbegeisterte können in Südtirol auf engstem Raum unter 7 bestens gepflegten Plätzen wählen.

L’Alto Adige vanta una tradizione ultracentenaria per quel che riguarda il golf. Già alla fine dell’Ottocento, infatti, i ricchi nobili si trovavano a praticarlo al Passo Carezza, sulla Mendola e a Merano, approfittando del panorama inimitabile e, probabilmente, cogliendo l’occasione per fare affari e discutere di politica. L’inaugurazione, nel 1886, del Grand Hotel Carezza attirò aristocratici di tutta Europa; otto anni più tardi venne inaugurato il primo campo da golf al Passo di Carezza. A Merano già nel 1891 il principe Michael di Russia si dilettava in questo sport. Nel 1927, ne fu inaugurato uno anche alla Mendola. Oggi il golf non è più uno sport di nicchia ma, come allora, l’Alto Adige costituisce una meta elitaria grazie alla bellezza dei suoi paesaggi.

South Tyrol is a real paradise for golfers today but golf has been popular in South Tyrol for more than one hundred years. Nobles and VIPs have gathered for golf in the middle of marvellous landscapes at Carezza lake, at the Mendola Pass and in Merano since then and maybe they have also taken important political decisions here – who knows? The Grandhotel Carezza was inaugurated in 1896. In 1904, the first golf course was established at the feet of the Catinaccio.In Merano, golf became popular in 1891 thanks to the Russian grand duke. In 1927, the climatic health resort of Mendola also decided to open a golf course. Insider behaupten, es wäre einer der schönsten Plätze zwischen dem Brenner und dem Gardasee. Nur 14 km von der Kurstadt Meran entfernt ist der Golfclub Passeier.Meran genau richtig für jene, die mitten in Südtirol Geschichte und Kultur gepaart mit mediterranem Flair spüren und erleben möchten. Positiv beeinflusst von den milden klimatischen Bedingungen ist die 18-Loch-Anlage (Par 71) mit einer Gesamtlänge von 5.800 m fast das gesamt Jahr bespielbar. Durch die hartnäckige Initiative des aus dem Tale stammenden Entrepreneurs und Golfvisionärs Karl Pichler wurde der ursprüngliche 9-Loch-Platz auf 18 Löcher erweitert. Abschlag bringen sowie die kleinste Schienenbahn Südtirols, die den Parkplatz mit dem Clubhaus verbindet. Eine weltweite Neuigkeit ist auch eine Schranke die den Start reguliert um ein Auflaufen zu verzögern. Für die 35 Carts sind die Wege alle asphaltiert und ideal angelegt. Zu einem erfolgreichen Golfplatz gehört auch eine gut funktionierende Golfschule. Diese wird seit Jahren vom international bekannten Head-Pro Gordon Hume aus Schottland geführt. Wenn im schönen Passeiertal Golf gespielt wird, dann hat man dies vor allem einem erfolgreichen Unternehmer und Golfverrückten zu verdanken. Bereits im Sommer 1990 hatte der Unternehmer (Edelhölzer) Karl Pichler die Idee in seiner Heimat, dem Passeiertal einen Golfplatz zu errichten. Pichler suchte den Kontakt zur Bevölkerung und zu Grundstückseigentümern, um diese auf Golf zu sensibilisieren. Getrieben von seiner Überzeugung und von der Gewissheit, dass der Golfsport für Südtirol und vor allem für die wirtschaftliche Lage seines Heimattales wichtig wäre, kämpfte Karl Pichler jahrelang. Schlussendlich konnte er sowohl das Vertrauen der Bauern, als auch die Zustimmung der Gemeindepolitik für eine 9-Loch-Anlage gewinnen. Der daraufhin errichtete 9-Loch-Platz übertraf alle Erwartungen. Man erkannte, wie wichtig Golf im Passeiertal für den treibenden Wirtschaftszweig, den Tourismus, einzuschätzen ist und gleichzeitig eine geeignete Freizeitbeschäftigung für Jung und Alt darstellt. So entschied Pichler weitere Gründe anzupachten um seine Vision „den schönsten Golfplatz zwischen dem Brenner und dem Gardasee“ verwirklichen zu können. Es dauerte nicht lange und der bereits für das 9-Loch-Projekt beauftragte Golfarchitekt Wilfried Moroder konnte mit der Planung der 18-Loch-Anlage beginnen. In eineinhalb jähriger Bautätigkeit wurde die ursprüngliche 9-Loch-Anlage nicht nur ergänzt, nein es entstand im Jahre 2004 ein komplett neuer Golfplatz mit 7 Seen, 500 neuen Bäumen, bunte Blumengärten inmitten herrlicher Almwiesen.

Già nell’estate 1990, l’imprenditore (di legno pregiato) Karl Pichler aveva l’idea di creare nella sua terra natale, la Val Passiria, un campo da golf. Al fine di sensibilizzare l’opinione verso il gioco del golf, Pichler cercò proprietari di terreni. Spinto dalla convinzione e dalla certezza che per l’Alto Adige il golf sarebbe stato importante soprattutto per

l’economia della sua valle, Karl Pichler lottò per anni. Alla fine riuscì a guadagnarsi la fiducia sia dei contadini sia dei politici locali per creare un campo a 9 buche, che superò tutte le aspettative. Si riconobbe come il golf in Val Passiria fosse importante per il settore economico e il turismo e allo stesso tempo come questa disciplina costituisse un passatempo ideale per grandi e per piccini. Così Pichler decise di iniziare per poter realizzare la sua visione, vale a dire “il più bel campo da golf tra il Brennero e il Lago di Garda”. Non passò molto tempo e già si concretizzò il progetto per le 9 buche del golf designer incaricato Wilfried Moroder con la pianificazione di un campo a 18 buche. In un anno e mezzo di costruzione, il campo iniziale a 9 buche non solo venne completato, ma nel 2004 nacque un campo da golf completamente nuovo con 7 laghi, 500 nuovi alberi e giardini variopinti nella splendida cornice dei prati di montagna.

If you play golf in the beautiful Val Passiria, it is mostly thanks to a successful businessman and extraordinary golfer. Back in the summer of 1990, the entrepreneur Karl Pichler had the inspiration to create a golf course in his native area, Val Passiria. He wanted to influence the public opinion on golf, so Pichler went searching for landowners. Driven by the belief and conviction that golf in South Tyrol would be important for his valley’s economy, Karl Pichler fought for many years. In the end he was able to gain the trust of farmers and local politicians and create a 9-hole course, exceeding all expectations. It was finally recognized how golf in Val Passiria was important for the economic sector and for tourism, as well as being a great pastime for young and old. Pichler decided to draw up the project for his vision: “The most beautiful golf course between Brenner and Lake Garda”. Not long after, the project for a 9-hole golf course designed by Wilfred Moroder was completed, with plans for an 18-hole course. In a year and a half of construction, the initial 9-hole course not only was completed, but in 2004 a brand-new golf course was inaugurated with 7 lakes, 500 new trees and colourful gardens among mountain meadows. ◊

Südtirol hat alles an Vielfalt, was sich der Oldtimerfan wünscht: Die schönsten Kurven, spektakuläre Passstraßen, majestätische Bergkulissen, liebliche Täler, kristallklare Bergseen, Burgen, Schlösser, historische Städte und Dörfer. Einmalig: Das mediterrane Klima, dass Südtirol zum Paradies für nostalgische Kurvenkünstler macht. Also steigen wir gleich ein und stellen uns vor, welche Strecken wir fahren würden, in welchem Wagen und in welcher Reihenfolge. Dabei stehen wir vor 125 Jahre Automobilgeschichte und damit vor der Qual der Wahl. Wir entscheiden uns für einen Jaguar ss 100, Baujahr 1934, Silbergrau und rechtsgesteuert; einen Fiat Spider 124, Baujahr 1982, Azurblau metallic und schließlich für einen weinroten Mercedes Benz 280 SL, Baujahr 1963, Spitzname Pagode. Dem Oldtimerparadies Südtirol nähern wir uns auf einer der klassischen Routen – von Norden kommend. Unser silbergrauer Jaguar ist fahrbereit und wir bereit für die erste Bergprüfung. Unser Roadbook: Jaufenpass – St. Leonhard im Passeier – Saltaus – Schenna. Der linke Arm hat gut zu tun. Das Schaltgetriebe aber auch. Der Rechtslenker hat zwei entscheidende Vorteile: Entweder direkt am Fels entlang oder immer ganz nah an der Kante. Der Blick kitzelt die Nerven. Beruhigend zu wissen, dass wir

gleich die Passhöhe auf 2.094 Meter erreichen und eine Espressopause einlegen werden, bevor wir unseren „Ritt” über die 31 Kilometer lange Scheitelstrecke fortsetzen. Auf unserer Genusstour durch das Oldtimerparadies Südtirol heißt unser erstes Ziel Schenna. Die Jaufenpassstraße liegt hinter uns, dass Passeiertal vor uns. St. Leonhard ist bald passiert. Für Andreas Hofer, den berühmten Sohn des Ortes, haben wir heute keine Zeit. In diesem Sinne nehmen wir uns die Freiheit und kämpfen uns ohne Pause bis Schenna. Unser Ziel ist jährlicher Startpunkt der Südtirol Classic Rallye, die 2011 im Juli zum 26-mal gefahren wird. Wir parken auf der Dorfstraße und unser silbergrauer Jaguar ist sofort der Hingucker. Auf einer Café-Terrasse mit Blick auf Schloss Schenna schreiben wir weiter an unserem Bericht. Die Südtirol Classic verbindet Leidenschaft und Landschaft auf perfekte Weise. Und manchmal wissen die Teilnehmer wahrscheinlich selbst nicht, für welches Ereignis ihre Herzen höher schlagen: Für ihr „Schätzchen” oder für Südtirol. So oder so: Teilnahmeberechtigt sind bei der Südtirol Classic ordnungsgemäß zugelassene Veteranen-Fahrzeuge bis Baujahr 1965. Vier Routen werden gefahren. Start ist jeweils Schenna. Highlight

der ersten Tour ist das Villnösstal; Reinhold Messner stammt aus diesem Tal. Den kann man hier aber nur selten antreffen. Dafür aber ganz sicher die Geislerspitzen sehen. Tour zwei führt durch das idyllische Ultental. Wälder, Almen, Berghöfe. Noch so ein Südtiroler Paradies für den ultimativen Oldtimerfreund. Die dritte Rundfahrt ist den Dolomiten gewidmet. Vier Pässe sind hier zu bezwingen. Hat der Klassikfan alle vier gut hinter sich und sein Gefährt gebracht, stimmt es ihn glücklich, als habe er ein Quadrifoglio gefunden. Tour Nummer vier führt wiederum in ein Tal und wieder heraus. Es geht durch das Cembratal, durch Weingärten und an Seen vorbei. An dieser Stelle steigen wir aus; aus unserem Jaguar und aus der Südtirol Classic Rallye. Denn unser azurblauer Fiat Spider 124 steht schon mit offenem Verdeck bereit. Wir planen einen Abstecher in die Dolomiten. Unser Roadbook: Bruneck – Toblach – Cortina – Araba – Corvara – Bruneck. Eine von zahlreichen Möglichkeiten, eine willkürliche Wahl, eine wunderschöne Fahrt in die Wunderwelt der Dolomiten. Die gehören seit 2009 zum UNESCO-Weltnaturerbe. Wunderschön waren sie aber vorher schon. Die Rundtour erledigen wir im Spider ohne Zwischenstopp. Schließlich wartet noch der weinrote 280 SL auf seinen Einsatz. >

Die Südtiroler Weinstraße soll es sein. Die Strecke ist etwas Besonderes für Genussfahrer. Und der „Weinrote” wird sich hier ganz sicher besonders wohlfühlen. Wir starten nachmittags in Bozen, wollen heute noch bis Margreid. Den Kalterer See können wir schon recht bald vor uns sehen. Doch zunächst ist eine Fahrt hinauf auf den Mendelpass Pflicht. Hier findet seit 2007 wieder eines der interessantesten Bergrennen der Klassikszene statt: Die Mendel History. Offenkundig war das mehr als 20-jährige Schweigen der Motoren entlang der legendären Kehren für die Motoristi unerträglich geworden. Zwischenstopp auf dem Pass. Der Ausblick ist schon paradiesisch zu nennen. Unsere Pause fällt aber kurz aus. Wieder im Tal, geht es an malerischen Weinorten vorbei und hindurch. Weinberge wohin das Cabriofahrerauge blickt. So darf man sich das Paradies vorstellen. Hinter Tramin steigt die Weinstraße leicht an, verläuft aber stets auf einer Höhenlinie parallel zum Tal der Etsch. Das Ortsschild Margreid markiert unser Ziel. Aufgepasst, gleich geht es scharf rechter Hand hinein in den Ort. Wenig später sitzen wir in einem idyllischen Innenhof. Der „Weinrote” und der Rote vor uns im Glas funkeln in der Spätnachmittagsonne um die Wette. >

L’Alto Adige ha tutto ciò che gli appassionati di auto d'epoca desiderano: le curve più belle, spettacolari passi di montagna, meravigliosi scenari, splendide valli, laghi dall’acqua cristallina, manieri, castelli, storiche città e paesi. Unico è il clima mediterraneo, che rende l’Alto Adige il paradiso per i nostalgici maghi delle curve. Chiudiamo gli occhi e immaginiamoci quali rotte percorreremo, in quali auto e in quale ordine. Ritorniamo con la mente ai 125 anni di storia automobilistica ed abbiamo l’imbarazzo della scelta. Noi optiamo per una Jaguar ss 100, anno di fabbricazione 1934, canna di fucile e con la guida a destra, una Fiat Spider 124, anno di fabbricazione 1982, azzurro metallico e, infine, per una Mercedes Benz 280 SL bordò, anno di fabbricazione 1963, soprannominata Pagoda. Ci avviciniamo al paradiso delle auto d’epoca dell’Alto Adige su uno dei classici percorsi. La nostra Jaguar ss 100 è pronta, e noi pure, per il primo collaudo in montagna. Il nostro percorso: Passo Giovo – San Leonardo in Passiria – Saltusio – Scena. Il braccio sinistro ha il suo bel da fare. La trasmissione manuale pure. Il braccio destro ha due vantaggi fondamentali: o direttamente lungo la roccia o sempre vicino al bordo. La vista stuzzica i nervi. Rassicura sapere che raggiungeremo l’altezza di 2.094 e che faremo una pausa caffé prima di continuare il nostro “giro” sui 31 chilometri del percorso ad alta quota. Scena è la nostra prima meta sul nostro tour lungo il paradiso delle auto d’epoca dell’Alto Adige. Lasciata la strada del Passo Giovo, davanti a noi si estende la Val Passiria. San Leonardo è già dietro le nostre spalle. Per Andreas Hofer, molto conosciuto in paese, oggi non abbiamo tempo. Quindi, proseguiamo senza sosta fino a Scena. La nostra meta è ogni anno il punto di partenza del Südtirol Classic Rally, che nel luglio 2011 si svolge per la 26a volta. Parcheggiamo lungo la strada del paese e la nostra Triumph giallo canarino non passa certo inosservata. Sulla terrazza di un café con vista sul Castello di Scena continuiamo a scrivere la nostra relazione. Il Südtirol Classic unisce alla perfezione passione e paesaggio.

E qualche volta i partecipanti non sanno neppure per cosa il loro cuore batta: per il loro “piccolo tesoro” o per l’Alto Adige. In entrambi i casi, nel Südtirol Classic sono di norma autorizzati a partecipare veterani di automobili fabbricate fino all’anno 1965. Quattro percorsi sono andati. Ogni volta la partenza è a Scena. Highlight del primo tour è la Val di Funes; Reinhold Messner viene da questa valle. Lo si può incontrare solo raramente. Ma quel che è certo è che si vedono le Odle. Il secondo tour conduce attraverso l’idilliaca Val d’Ultimo. Boschi, pascoli, masi. Ancora un altro paradiso dell’Alto Adige per gli amici delle auto d’epoca. Il terzo percorso è dedicato alle Dolomiti. Sono da superare quattro passi. L’appassionato di Classic Car ha tutti e quattro dietro le sue spalle e il suo veicolo. Ciò lo rende felice come se avesse trovato un quadrifoglio. Il tour numero quattro conduce

NESCO. Splendide lo erano già prima di questo riconoscimento. Faremo il tour in Spider senza effettuare fermate intermedie. Infine, la bordò 280 SL aspetta ancora il suo turno. Adesso tocca alla strada del vino dell’Alto Adige. Il percorso è davvero un piacere per la guida. E la “bordò” qui si sentirà sicuramente speciale. Partiamo il pomeriggio da Bolzano e ancora oggi vogliamo arrivare fino a Magrè. Possiamo già scorgere davanti a noi il Lago di Caldaro. Ma prima facciamo una puntata al Passo Mendola. Qui dal 2007 si svolge di nuovo una delle più interessanti corse d’auto in salita: la Mendel History. Ovviamente gli oltre 20 anni di silenzio dei motori lungo i leggendari tornanti era diventato proprio insopportabile per gli amanti dei motori. Fermata intermedia al passo. La vista è paradisiaca. La nostra pausa è breve. Ritorniamo di nuovo a valle, attraversia-

nuovamente in una valle e viceversa. Esso attraversa la Valle di Cembra, vigneti e laghi. A questo punto possiamo scendere dalla nostra Jaguar. La nostra Fiat Spider 124 azzurra è già pronta con la capotta abbassata. Progettiamo un viaggio nelle Dolomiti. Il nostro percorso: Brunico – Dobbiaco – Cortina – Arabba – Corvara – Brunico. Una tra le innumerevoli possibilità, una scelta volontaria, un meraviglioso viaggio nel magico mondo delle Dolomiti, che dal 2009 sono patrimonio naturale dell’U-

mo e passiamo tra i pittoreschi vigneti verso i quali si dirige lo sguardo del guidatore della cabrio. Così possiamo immaginare il paradiso. La strada del vino sorge leggermente a ridosso di Termeno, corre sempre su una linea parallela verso la Val d’Adige. Il cartello Magrè indica la nostra meta. Attenzione, si procede a tutta dritta dentro il paese. Poco dopo ci sediamo in un idilliaco patio. Davanti a noi sul vetro lo scintillio della “bordò” e del rosso sotto il sole del tardo pomeriggio per correre la gara. >

South Tyrol has everything a vintage car enthusiast could ask for: the best curves in the road, spectacular mountain passes, marvellous panoramas, splendid valleys, crystal clear lakes, manor houses, castles, historical towns and cities. The unique Mediterranean climate makes South Tyrol a paradise for these curvecraving cars. Let’s close our eyes and imagine which route we will take, in which car and in what order. 125 years of auto history come to mind and we are spoilt for choice. We decide on a Jaguar ss 100, built in 1934, silver-grey with a right-hand drive, a Fiat Spider 124, built in 1982, metallic blue, and to complete the trio, a bordeaux Mercedes Benz 280 SL built in 1963, nicknamed Pagoda. We get one step closer to this Tyrolean paradise in one of the classic circuits. Our silver-grey Jaguar is ready, and we are too, for our first test drive in the mountains. The route: Giovo Pass – San Leonardo in Passiria – Saltusio – Scena. The left arm will have work to do. The view tingles the nerves. Its exhilarating to know we will reach the altitude of 2.094 meters and we will have a stop for a coffee before continuing our tour of 31 kilometres on a high altitude course. Scena is the first point of our tour along the paradise for vintage cars in South Tyrol. After leaving the road of the Giovo Pass, the Val Passiria extends before us. San Leonardo is already behind us and we continue without a stop all the way back to Scena. Our destination is the yearly starting point for the Südtirol Classic Rally, that will mark its 26th edition in July 2011. We park on the street and our silver-grey Jaguar doesn’t pass unnoticed. On a café terrace of a with a view of the Scena Castle we take notes. The Südtirol Classic unites passion and panorama seamlessly. Sometimes participants don’t know what makes their heart beats faster… is it their “vintage beauty” or is it South Tyrol? Whatever the case, the

Südtirol Classic authorises veterans to participate if they own a car built no later than 1965. Four fantastic tours: each one departs from Scena. The highlight of the first tour is Val di Funes; the mountaineer Reinhold Messner comes from this valley. You can meet him only rarely, but one thing is certain, you will encounter Oldle- the mountain. The second tour takes you through the idyllic Val d’Ultimo. Forests, meadows, farmhouses… yet another paradise for vintage car lovers. The third course is dedicated to the Dolomites. You will have to go through 4 mountain passes. Now, with all four behind you, you’re as happy as if you had just found a four-leaf clover. Tour number four takes you down a valley and back again. This one is the Valley of Cembra, with vineyards and lakes.

avvertirete le farfalle nello stomaco alla vista di un castello incantato, di un angolo nascosto di silenzio o del tripudio dei fiori lungo una delle numerose passeggiate, potrebbe essere semplicemente dovuto all’atmosfera tutta particolare di questa città. I romantici non possono non fare due passi lungo la Passeggiata Gilf. Passate molte delle fantastiche residenze con splendidi angoli tranquilli, passate le case signorili e gli storici parchi, la strada di Sissi conduce per Merano sulle orme dell’imperatrice austriaca. La famosa monarca austriaca amava Merano e perciò più volte si trattenne nella cittadina termale in continua crescita. La strada di Sissi porta dai giardini di Castel Trauttmansdorff, dove l’imperatrice soggiornò due volte, fino al centro cittadino, toccando le tappe più importanti delle visite di Sissi. Merano divenne ben presto anche punto d’incontro di artisti di ogni provenienza: scrittori, compositori e pittori si recavano nella cittadina di cura termale situata lungo il Passirio e alcuni vi rimanevano anche più a lungo di quanto avessero inizialmente previsto. Alcune opere di diversi artisti, che erano catturati dal fascino di Merano, oggi possono essere ammirate nel museo della città. I numerosi musei e le molteplici mostre nelle fortezze e nei castelli di Merano e dintorni guidano i visitatori in un emozionante viaggio nel passato, come per esempio il Museo della Donna Evelyn Ortner, in cui sono esposti abiti, accessori e oggetti di uso quotidiano a partire dalla fine del XX secolo, oppure il Museo Provinciale del Turismo a Castel Trauttmansdorff.

Man muss nicht unbedingt verliebt sein, um in Meran ein bisschen Herzflattern zu verspüren. Sollten Sie also beim Anblick eines verwunschenen Schlosses, eines versteckten stillen Winkels oder der überschwellenden Blütenpracht entlang einer der vielen Promenaden Schmetterlinge im Bauch verspüren, könnte es auch nur einfach das ganz besondere Flair dieser Stadt sein... Romantiker sollten sich einen Spaziergang über die Gilfpromenade nicht entgehen lassen. Vorbei an vielen dieser verwunschenen Ansitze mit herrlich stillen Winkeln, vorbei an herrschaftlichen Villen und alten Parkanlagen führt der „Sissi-Weg“ auf den Spuren der österreichischen Kaiserin quer durch Meran. Die populäre österreichische Monarchin liebte Meran und hielt sich deshalb gleich mehrmals in der aufstrebenden Kurstadt auf. Der Sissi-Weg führt von den Gärten von Schloss Trauttmansdorff, wo die Kaiserin zwei Mal wohnte, bis ins Stadtzentrum und berührt dabei wichtige Stationen von Sissis Aufenthalten in Meran. Meran avancierte bald auch zum Stelldichein von Künstlern jeder Provenienz; Schriftsteller, Komponisten und Maler kamen zur Kur in die Stadt an der Passer, und gar mancher blieb dort auch länger, als er zunächst geplant hatte. Einige Werke von verschiedenen Künstlern, die damals dem Charme Merans verfallen sind, können heute im Stadtmuseum bewundert werden. Die vielen Museen und die zahlreichen Ausstellungen in den Burgen und Schlössern von Meran und Umgebung, entführen die Besucher auf eine spannende Reise in die Vergangenheit, wie z. B. das Frauenmuseum Evelyn Ortner, wo Europas größte und vollständigste Sammlung von Frauenkleidern, Accessoires und Alltagsgegenständen ausgehend von der Jahrhundertwende ausgestellt ist oder etwa das Museum für Tourismusgeschichte im Schloss Trauttmansdorff. You don’t have to be in love for the word Merano to make your heart skip a beat. So, if you get butterflies in your stomach when you see the enchanted castle, a secret corner of silence or the myriad flowers along the many promenades, it could be simply due to the intriguing atmosphere of this city. Incurable romantics will not be able to resist a walk along the Gilf Promenade, passing the fantastic mansions with splendid quiet corners, continuing on past manor houses and historical parks, “Sissi’s road” goes all the way to Merano on the legendary trail of the Austrian empress. The famous Austrian monarch loved Merano because she came here numerous times to “take the cure of the waters” in this growing town. Sissi’s road takes you to the gardens Trauttmansdorff Castle, where the empress stayed twice, then continues to the centre of town, with stops at the principal places Sissi visited. Merano was a meeting point for artists from everywhere: writers, composers and painters found themselves in this spa town on the Passirio river and many stayed here much longer than originally intended. Works of the artists captured by Merano’s spell can be admired in the town’s museums. The many museums and numerous exhibitions in the fortresses and castles of Merano and the area will guide visitors on an informative dive into the past; two examples are the Evelyn Ortner Women’s Museum, where you can see dresses, accessories, and objects of daily use from the 1900’s, and the Provincial Tourist museum at the Trauttmansdorff Castle. ◊

EINE REISE IN DIE VERGANGENHEIT UN VIAGGIO NEL PASSATO • A TRIP BACK IN TIME

Im über 1.000 Jahre alten Brixen, der ältesten Stadt Tirols, begegnen dem Besucher Kunst, Kultur und Geschichte auf Schritt und Tritt. Die Wohnräume der Fürstbischöfe und der prunkvolle Kaisertrakt zeugen vom Glanz vergangener Zeiten. Beim gemütlichen Flanieren durch die Lauben, stößt man auch auf eine ganzjährig geöffnete Ausstellung von Folterwerkzeugen der Grafschaft Tirol, welche einen Einblick in eine Zeit gewährt, in der Strenge und Gewalt vorherrschte. Am Ende eines spannenden und abwechslungsreichen Tages auf den Spuren der Südtiroler Geschichte, laden die zahlreichen Bars und Restaurants ein, den Abend bei einem guten Glas Wein ausklingen zu lassen. Bekannt ist Brixen auch für sein abwechslungsreiches Programm an kulturellen Abendveranstaltungen rund ums Jahr. Knapp ein Jahr alt und schon eine Institution in Südtirols Feinschmecker-Szene. Der Genussmarkt „Pur Südtirol“ in den ehrwürdigen Räumlichkeiten des Meraner Kurhauses hat sich in kürzester Zeit zum Treffpunkt schlechthin für Einheimische und Touristen gleichermaßen etabliert. Auf insgesamt 450 m² werden ausschließlich Produkte aus Südtirol, wie Weine, Destillate sowie Speck, Obstsäfte, Fruchtaufstriche, frisches Obst und Gemüse, Käse und andere Milchprodukte geboten. Das facettenreiche Sortiment umfasst insgesamt über 1.400 Produkte aus Südtirol, wobei ein eigener Bereich den „Qualitätsprodukten vom Bauern“ vorbehalten ist. Im Genuss- und Verzehrbereich oder an warmen Tagen auf der Terrasse, ist es zudem möglich, ein erlesenes Glas Wein sowie feine Spezialitäten von der Tageskarte zu genießen. Doch nicht nur den Gaumen wissen die beiden PurInitiatoren Günther Hölzl und Ulrich Wallnöfer zu verwöhnen. Mit dem neuen Projekt Pur Manufactur wurde eine Plattform für Südtiroler Designer und Handwerker geschaffen, in der Produkte aus Materialen wie Holz,

Ton oder Glas hergestellt werden, die aufs Engste mit Südtirol verbunden sind. Der kreative Antreiber dabei ist der Meraner Designer Harry Thaler, der sich auch für das gesamte Pur Südtirol-Einrichtungsdesign verantwortlich zeichnet und vor kurzem in Köln mit dem „Interior Innovation Award“ ausgezeichnet wurde. So viel Genuss und Ideenreichtum sorgt nicht nur bei den Besuchern, sondern auch bei Fachjuroren für Furore: Neben dem Innovationspreis Merkur des Handels- und Dienstleistungsverbandes Südtirol, heimste Pur Südtirol im Jahr 2010 auch den SMG Marketing Award und den SMG-Publikumspreis für das Projekt mit den meisten Publikumsstimmen ein. Damit hat Pur Südtirol geschafft, was noch niemand bisher in Südtirol geschafft hat, und zwar alle Auszeichnungen für eine innovative Geschäftsidee auf sich zu vereinen. DAS GRÜNE TAL VAL PUSTERIA DA VIVERE • THE GREEN VALLEY

Das „grüne Tal“, wie das Pustertal auch genannt wird, erstreckt sich auf einer Fläche von 2.071 km² und liegt zum größten Teil in Südtirol und teils im österreichischen Osttirol. Es ist geprägt von saftigen Wäldern, Wiesen, Seen sowie von den charakteristischen, bizarr geformten Berggipfeln der Dolomiten. Wohl die bekanntesten davon sind die drei Zinnen. Zu den beliebtesten Zielen für Familienausflüge im Pustertal zählen die Erdpyramiden in Terenten und Platten, die Reinbachfälle in Sand in Taufers oder der Hochseilgarten Kronaction, ein Abenteuerpark für die ganze Familie. Kletterer finden im Pustertal nicht nur im Freien traumhafte Bedingungen, sondern auch überdacht, in der höchsten Indoor-Kletterhalle Italiens, in der Dolomitenarena in Sexten. Nichts für schwache Nerven ist die Zip Line in St. Vigil in Enneberg, einem 3 km langen und 100 m über dem Boden gespannten Stahlseil. Hier kann in eine faszinierende Abenteuerwelt mit einem abwechslungsreichen und spannenden Aktivangebot eingetaucht werden. Von Angeln über Canyoning und Rafting in der Passer, Klettern, Nordic Walking, Reiten bis hin zu Biken... eine Vielzahl an Möglichkeiten, die Natur von ihrer schönsten Seite zu entdecken. Alle Golffans erfreuen sich an der 18-Loch-Golfanlage, welche sowohl Anfängern als auch Fortgeschrittenen ideale Voraussetzungen für einen perfekten Abschlag bietet. From fishing to canyoning and rafting on the Passirio river to climbing, Nordic walking, horseback riding to biking… a multitude of possibilities await you to discover nature at its finest. IM APFELGARTEN SÜDTIROLS… NEL GIARDINO DELLE MELE DELL’ALTO ADIGE… IN THE APPLE ORCHARD OF SOUTH TYROL… Der Apfelgarten Südtirols, wie der Vinschgau auch genannt wird, besticht durch eine Vielzahl an faszinierenden Gegensätzen. Von den Hochebenen rund um den Reschensee, berühmt durch seinem imposant aus dem Wasser ragenden Kirchturm, hinunter zu den Apfelwiesen in den milden Tallagen, die sich ab Mitte April in einen duftenden Teppich aus Millionen von weiß-rosa Blüten verwandeln, bis hinauf zum eisigen Gipfel des 3.905 Meter hohen Ortlers, dem höchsten Berg Südtirols. Diese Vielfalt an Sehenswürdigkeiten macht den Vinschgau zu einem idealen Ausflugsziel für Familien, ambitionierte Bergsteiger, Mountainbiker sowie für Natur- und Kulturbegeisterte. Bei einer Wanderung entlang des 108 km langen Höhenweges, kann man das westlichste Tal Südtirols von seiner schönsten Seite kennenlernen. Besondere Attraktionen des Vinschgaus, die bei keiner Besichtigungstour fehlen dürfen, sind das Schloss Juval in Kastelbell, der Wohnsitz von Reinhold Messner oder aber das Kräuterschlössl in Goldrain. Hier werden verschiedenste Kräuter biologisch angebaut und zu edlen Naturprodukten weiterverarbeitet. Auch der Hauptort Schlanders mit dem höchsten Kirchturm ganz Tirols oder das Marmordorf Laas mit seinem weit über die Landesgrenzen hinaus bekannten weißen Gold, sind eine Einkehr wert. In Laas hat man zudem die Möglichkeit, die mehrfach prämierten Edelbrände des Ausserloretzhofes zu verköstigen. Für die edlen Destillate werden ausschließlich eigene Früchte aus biologischem Anbau verwendet. Einige Dörfer weiter, in Schluderns, findet man die Churburg, eine der am meist besuchten und am besten erhaltenen Burgen in ganz Südtirol. Sehenswert sind auch das malerische Glurns, die kleinste Stadt Italiens oder das Kloster Marienberg bei Mals, die höchstgelegene Benediktinerabtei Europas. Dopo alcuni paesi, a Sluderno, si trova Castel Coira, uno dei castelli più visitati e meglio conservati dell’Alto Adige. The apple orchard of South Tyrol, as Val Venosta, or the Venosta Valley is called, is known for a variety of fascinating contrasts. From the plateau near Lake Resia famous for its imposing tower that rises from the water, to the orchards on the rolling hills of the valley that are transformed in mid April into fragrant blanket of white and pink flowers, to the 3.905 metre peak of Ortles, the highest mountain in South Tyrol. This variety of attractions make Val Venosta the ideal destination for families, ambitious mountaineers and lovers of nature and culture. While hiking along the 108 km long trail you can discover the easternmost valley of South Tyrol from its best vantage point. Attractions that are an absolute must in Val Venosta are the Juval Castle in Castelbello, the home of mountaineer Reinhold Messner, or the Castle delle Erbe (Herbs) in Laces. Here a variety of herbs are biologically cultivated and transformed into natural products. Another interesting site is the county seat of Silandro with the highest tower in all of South Tyrol and the town of marble, Lasa, well known beyond Italy’s borders for its famous “white gold”. In nearby Sluderno, there is the Coira Castle, one of the most visited and best preserved castles in South Tyrol. Another place that merits a visit is the picturesque Glorenza, the smallest city in Italy, and the Abbey of Monte Maria, the highest Benedictine monastery in Europe. ◊

Eines der wichtigsten Rennen für Radsport-Amateure aus der ganzen Welt. Auf der bis zu 138 km langen Strecke müssen insgesamt 7 Pässe der Dolomiten mit 4.190 Höhenmetern überwunden werden. Treffpunkt ist der Sonntag, 10. Juli 2011, immer mit Start in Stern und Ankunft in Corvara für die geschlossene Zahl der 9000 Teilnehmer, die sich in den drei klassischen Strecken messen werden: Lange Strecke (138 km) mit 4190 m Höhenunterschied, mittlere Strecke (106 km) mit 3090 m Höhenunterschied und Sellarunde / Sella Ronda (55 km) mit einem Höhenunterschied von 1780 m. La Maratona dles Dolomites è un classico nell'estate dell'Alta Badia. Una festa dedicata a chi ama andare in bicicletta e vivere emozionanti avventure sulle due ruote: 7 i passi dolomitici, 3 tragitti diversi, fino 138 i km fra storia e tradizioni. L’appuntamento per quest’anno è domenica 10 luglio 2011, è sempre con partenza da La Villa e arrivo a Corvara, per i quasi 9000 partecipanti, rigorosamente a numero chiuso, che affronteranno i tre classici percorsi: lungo 138 km con 4190 mt di dislivello, medio 106 km con 3090 mt di dislivello e Sella Ronda 55 km con dislivello di 1780 mt. LA CAVALCATA OSWALD VON WOLKENSTEIN 29TH OSWALD VON WOLKENSTEIN RIDING TOURNAMENT

Die Dörfer am Fuße des Schlern stehen vom 3. bis zum 5. Juni ganz im Zeichen der größten Reitveranstaltung Südtirols. Zum 29. Mal stellen sich beim Oswald-von-WolkensteinRitt insgesamt 36 Mannschaften hoch zu Ross vier anspruchsvollen Reitturnieren. Der Wettkampf wird zu Ehren des legendären Südtiroler Ritters und Minnesängers Oswald von Wolkenstein veranstaltet und wieder tausende Zuschauer begeistern. Vor dem spektakulären Ritt findet am 21. Mai der Ausscheidungsritt am „Matzbödele“ in Seis statt. Neben den vier spektakulären Wettkämpfen entführt der große Festeinzug mit den Eröffnungsfeierlichkeiten, der Pferdesegnung und dem Dorffest am Samstag, den 4. Juni, in Seis. Sono i paesi ai piedi dello Sciliar che dal 3 al 5 giugno ospitano la cavalcata storica più famosa in Alto Adige. Prove di forza a cavallo di un destriero, animi folgoranti, cuori impavidi: tutti pronti per vincere la 29. Cavalcata Oswald von Wolkenstein. Al centro dell’attenzione sono le diverse gare di abilità e forza, condotte dalle 36 squadre cavalleresche che si cimentano in quattro tornei. Il 21 maggio si deciderà a Siusi la sorte dei numerosi gruppi che parteciperanno alla Cavalcata ufficiale. La manifestazione in onore del poeta e diplomatico Oswald von Wolkenstein, si inaugurerà sabato 4 giugno con la grande sfilata delle squadre, la benedizione dei cavalli e la festa paesana a Siusi allo Sciliar. back riding festival in South Tyrol. A total of 36 teams face the challenging competition games of the Oswald von Wolkenstein Riding Tournament. Besides the competition, medieval festivities with historical bands, jugglers, fire-eaters and flag wavers take us back to the times of knights and damsels. The traditional riding spectacle starts with a big medieval

festival in Siusi allo Sciliar. On Sunday, the audience draws on foot or by shuttle buses together with the riders from race to race. At the close of the tournament, there will be an awards ceremony at Presule Castle, with a subsequent festive celebration quite in keeping with medieval traditions. >
