Dabei sind wir Menschen begegnet und haben Orte entdeckt, die dazu inspirieren, Südtirol mit neuen Augen zu sehen und so zu staunen als wäre es das erste Mal. Genauso wie die kreativen Schöpfungen von Bildhauer Fabiano De Martin Topranin. Sie stellen Forscher, Entdecker und Hüter des Raumes dar – stille Wächter allzu lauter Zeiten, die dazu animieren, behutsam in sich hineinzuhorchen und dem eigenen Gedanken-Karussell neuen Schwung zu verleihen. Chi si avventura nell’ignoto conosce il mondo. Fedeli a questo motto, anche noi abbiamo scelto di percorrere sentieri inesplorati per la nuova edizione estiva del nostro Welcome Magazine. Abbiamo incontrato persone e scoperto luoghi che ispirano a osservare l’Alto Adige con occhi diversi e ad ammirarlo come se fosse la prima volta. Proprio come le opere realizzate con grande estro dallo scultore Fabiano De Martin Topranin. Le sue creazioni raffigurano esploratori e custodi dello spazio, guardiani silenziosi in tempi assordanti, che esortano a guardarsi dentro e a dare nuovo impulso al proprio flusso di pensieri. Anche l’alpinista estremo e guida alpina Simon Gietl è solito farlo. In un interessante articolo, vi sveliamo perché non cambierebbe le Dolomiti per nulla al mondo. Nach sechs Jahren im Fashion Resort der deutschen ELLE, leitete die gebürtige Meranerin als Unit Director von LOEWS, der führenden deutschen PR-Agentur im High Fashion Business, die Mode-Etats von Burberry und Jil Sander. Seit ihrer Rückkehr nach Südtirol berät sie den bekannten Retailer Oberrauch Zitt, das Fashionlabel DIMITRI und das New Talent Internodiciotto. Hauptaugenmerk legt sie dabei auf die Organisation von Events, Styling und die Umsetzung von professionellen Fotoshootings.

Dopo sei anni nella sezione fashion del magazine tedesco ELLE, la meranese ha lavorato presso LOEWS, agenzia di PR leader nel business dell’alta moda in Germania. In veste di Unit Director, dirigeva il reparto dedicato a Burberry e Jil Sander. Dal suo ritorno in Alto Adige, Nadia è attiva come consulente del noto retailer Oberrauch Zitt, del marchio DIMITRI e del brand emergente Internodiciotto. L’organizzazione di eventi, la cura dello styling e la realizzazione di shooting fotografici professionali sono i focus della sua attività.

After six years in the fashion department of the German ELLE magazine, the Merano native has been working at LOEWS, the leading PR agency in the haute couture business in Germany. As Unit Director, she headed the fashion budget of Burberry and Jil Sander. Since her return to South Tyrol, Nadia works as a consultant to the well-known retailer Oberrauch Zitt, the fashion brand Dimitri and the new talent Internodiciotto. Her activity focusses on the organization of events, styling and the creation of professional photo shoots.

Er gehört zu den jungen Wilden, zu einer neuen Generation von Südtiroler Alpinisten. Seine Abenteuer haben ihn nach Grönland, Patagonien, Indien, China und Alaska geführt. Und dennoch: Die Dolomiten würde Simon Gietl mit nichts auf der Welt tauschen wollen.

Beinahe schelmisch wirkt sein Lachen. Als säße da ein Lausbub, der soeben beschlossen hat, etwas Großes auszuhecken. In der Tat brütet der 33-Jährige aus Oberwielenbach bei Bruneck einen abenteuerlichen Plan aus: Nach der geglückten Expedition zum 6.543 Meter hohen Shivling im nordindischen Himalaya, hat Simon Gietl vor, gemeinsam mit dem deutschen Extrembergsteiger Thomas Huber (bekannt als einer der „Huberbuam“) eine Erstbesteigung in Pakistan zu wagen. Zu bezwingen gilt es den 7.145 großen Latok. Bereits über 30 Expeditionen sind am majestätischen Granitriesen gescheitert. Für Gietl kein Grund, es nicht zu versuchen. Reizvollen Herausforderungen begegnet er mit Enthusiasmus, den Bergen mit Ehrfurcht und Respekt. Sein Motto lautet „Fühl dich stark, aber nicht unsterblich“ und danach handelt er auch: „Für mich persönlich ist es wichtig zu wissen, was ich kann, aber noch viel wichtiger, was ich nicht kann. Ich habe kein Problem, Schwächen einzugestehen. Damit gehe ich ganz offen um.“ In besonders brenzligen Situationen vertraut er auf seinen natürlichen Instinkt, der ihn bisher noch nie in Stich gelassen hat. „Der Kopf lässt sich gerne steu-

ern, aber das Bauchgefühl kann man nicht belügen. Wenn es mir sagt, umzudrehen, dann war’s das. Im Normalfall hat man nämlich keine Zeit, einen Kaffee zu trinken und darüber nachzudenken, am Berg muss man schnelle Entscheidungen treffen.“ Dies geschieht nicht nur seinetwillen, sondern auch aus Verantwortung seiner Partnerin und seinen Kindern gegenüber. „Bei meiner Familie

und in den Bergen fühle ich mich verstanden. Sie sind meine natürliche Umgebung, mein Zuhause“, gesteht er. Als rastlos würde er sich nicht bezeichnen. „Wenn man nur von einem Abenteuer zum nächsten jagt, kann man das Erlebte gar nicht aufarbeiten… Diese Zeit nehme ich mir schon“, erklärt der junge Familienvater. Seine Söhne Iano und Iari, zwei und fünf Jahre alt, sind noch zu klein, um mit ihm auf Abenteuer zu gehen. Dass er eines Tages Seite an Seite mit ihnen klettern wird, ist für ihn nicht ausgeschlossen. „Ich kann es mir gut vorstellen und es wäre sicher schön. Am glücklichsten würde es mich aber machen, wenn sie schlicht und einfach ihren Platz in der Welt finden und eine Leidenschaft für etwas entwickeln.“ Seine eigene Passion lebt er mit Seilgefährten aus, die er als Freunde bezeichnet, wie etwa Andrea Oberbacher, Vittorio Messini oder Roger Schäli. Zu ihnen, wie auch zum Alpinismus selbst, pflegt er eine besondere Beziehung: „Eine Expedition ist wie eine große Pyramide: Der Gipfel ist nur die Spitze, dort ist man lediglich für kurze Zeit. Er ist das i-Tüpfelchen, könnte man sagen. Alles andere, die Freundschaft, die extremen Situationen und intensiven Momente, die man teilt, genauso wie die Menschen und Kulturen, denen man begegnet, machen eine wahre Expedition aus.

Di fatto, il 33enne pusterese di Vila di Sopra, sta architettando un piano avventuroso: dopo la fortunata spedizione alla conquista dello Shivling, montagna di 6.543 metri dell’Himalaya nell’India del nord, Simon Gietl ha nel mirino una prima ascensione in Pakistan insieme all’alpinista Thomas Huber (conosciuto come uno degli “Huberbuam”). L’ostacolo da sormontare sono i 7.145 metri del Latok. Già più di 30 spedizioni sono fallite al cospetto del maestoso gigante di granito. Gietl, però, vuole provarci lo stesso. Affronta le sfide stimolanti

con entusiasmo e le montagne con profondo rispetto. Il suo motto è “Sentiti forte, ma non immortale” e lo segue alla lettera: “Personalmente, ritengo importante sapere quello riesco a fare, ma molto di più capire quello che è

“La mente si lascia influenzare spesso e volentieri, ma la pancia non la puoi ingannare. Se mi dice di tornare indietro, la ascolto. Infatti, di solito non c’è tempo per bere un caffè e pensarci su un attimo, in montagna si devono prendere decisioni rapide.” Non lo fa solo per amor proprio ma anche per un senso di responsabilità verso sua moglie e i suoi bambini. “In famiglia e sulla montagna mi sento compreso. Sono il mio habitat naturale, la mia casa”, confessa. Ciononostante, non si descriverebbe come una persona irrequieta. “Se si affronta continuamente un’avventura dopo l’altra, è impossibile rielaborare le esperienze vissute… Io mi prendo il tempo per farlo”, spiega il giovane padre di famiglia. I suoi figli, Iano e Iari, hanno rispettivamente due e cinque anni di età. Sono ancora troppo piccoli, dunque, per accompagnarlo nelle sue imprese. Simon non esclude la possibilità di arrampicare un giorno insieme a loro, fianco a fianco: “Riesco a immaginarmelo, sarebbe sicuramente bello. Sarei già più che felice, però, se trovassero il proprio posto nel mondo e coltivassero una passione per qualcosa”. La sua, la vive con compagni di cordata, che considera amici, come ad esempio Andrea Oberbacher, Vittorio Messini o Roger Schäli. Con loro, come d’altronde con l’alpinismo, ha un rapporto speciale: “Una spedizione è come una grande piramide: la cima è solo la punta, ci si rimane poco tempo. È la ciliegina sulla torta, per così dire. L’essenza della spedizione è costituita da tutto il resto: l’amicizia, le situazioni estreme e i momenti di grande intensità condivisi, proprio come le persone e le culture che si incontrano. Esperienze indimenticabili che uniscono indissolubilmente. Alla fine, si deve poter dire: è stato fantastico anche se non abbiamo raggiunto la meta”. His smile is almost mischievous. And it’s true: The 33 year old from Vila di Sopra, close to Brunico, is already plotting his next big escape. After his successful expedition to the 6.543 m Shivling in the northern Himalayas, he is now planning a

first ascent in Pakistan. To do this, he has teamed up with extreme mountaineer Thomas Huber (known as one of the “Huberbuam” brothers). The mountain they want to conquer is the 7.145 m tall Latok, which has already seen over 30 expeditions fail. This isn’t reason enough for Gietl not to try it himself. He loves a good challenge, yet he always faces the mountains with awe and respect. His mot-

to is “feel strong, but not invincible”, and he acts accordingly. “For me, personally, it’s important to know what I can do - but it’s even more important to know what I can’t do. I have no problem admitting my weaknesses. I’m very open about that.” In the most precarious situations, he always goes with his gut. It has not failed him yet. “You can easily steer the mind, but the gut instinct cannot be lied

to. If it tells me to turn around, that’s it. You don’t usually have the luxury to have a coffee and a good long think about your next move. You gotta think fast in the mountains.” He always keeps his girlfriend and his two kids in mind in these situations. “With my family and in the mountains, that’s where I feel at ease. They are my natural habitat, my home”, he confesses. Still, he wouldn’t call himself restless. “If you just pursue one adventure after the other you have no time to let anything sink in… I do take that time”, the young father explains. His sons, Iano (2) and Iari (5), are still too young to join him on his adventures. Yet, he doesn’t exclude the possibility that some day they will climb side by side. “I can already see it, it would be lovely. I would be happiest if they find their own place in the world and their own passions.” He lives his own passion together with “rope buddies” he calls friends. Andrea Oberbacher, Vittorio Messini or Roger Schäli, for example. He has a special relationship with them and alpinism: “An expedition is like a big pyramid: The peak is just the tip, you’re there for a very short time. It’s the cherry on top, so to speak. Everything else, the friendship, the extreme situations and intense moments that you shared, just as the people and cultures you meet, is what really makes an expedition special. It’s experiences you will never forget and that create an immediate bond. In the end you should always be able to say: We had an amazing time, even if we didn’t reach our goal.”

Zwei Mal im Jahr für jeweils vier bis sechs Wochen begibt sich Gietl auf Expedition. Den Rest der Zeit verbringt er Zuhause in Südtirol, wo er als Bergführer tätig ist, aber auch mit Erstbegehungen und Touren im UNESCO Weltnaturerbe die Kletterwelt begeistert. Und obwohl er Felsgiganten in Grönland, China und Patagonien bezwungen hat, würde er die Dolomiten nicht missen wollen. „Ich habe viele Berge auf dieser Welt gesehen, aber ich bleibe ein großer Dolomiten-Fan. Was gibt es Schöneres als von der eigenen Haustür direkt in die Natur starten zu können? Das ist doch der Wahnsinn! Auch wenn ich gerne in etwas steileren Wänden unterwegs bin, das gemütliche Wandern macht mich genauso glücklich. Schließlich braucht es ein Gleichgewicht. Darüber hinaus ist immer Abwechslung gegeben. Auch wenn ich fünf Mal die Woche auf die Große Zinne gehe, es wird einfach nie langweilig“, sprudelt es aus ihm heraus. Beruf und Berufung sind für ihn als Lebemensch dasselbe. Nicht ohne Grund hat er ein ganz bestimmtes Ziel vor Augen: „Wenn ich es schaffe, alt zu werden, habe ich alles erreicht. Sollte dann noch etwas auf der Abenteuerliste stehen, ist das völlig egal.“

Nonostante abbia conquistato maestose cime in Groenlandia, Cina e Patagonia, non rinuncerebbe mai a quelle con cui è cresciuto. “Ho visto tante montagne nel mondo ma rimango fedele alle Dolomiti. Cosa c’è di più bello che uscire dalla porta e immergersi subito nella natura? È davvero incredibile! Anche se amo arrampicarmi su pareti un po’ più ripide, mi trasmettono felicità anche escursioni meno impegnative. Dopotutto, ci vuole un equilibrio. Le esperienze, poi, sono sempre varie. Anche se faccio visita cinque volte a settimana alle Tre Cime di Lavaredo, non mi annoio mai”, continua. Professione e vocazione sono una cosa sola per lui. Non per nulla, ha un obiettivo ben chiaro davanti agli occhi: “Se riuscirò a

invecchiare, avrò avuto un’esistenza completa. Se dovesse avanzare qualche voce da spuntare sulla lista delle avventure, non importa”.

Gietl is on expeditions twice a year for about four to six weeks. He spends the rest of his time at home, in South Tyrol, where he works as a mountain guide. This is also where he thrills the climbing world with first ascends and tours in the UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site. Even if he quelled rocky giants in Greenland, China and Patagonia, he would not trade the Dolomites for the world. “I’ve seen many mountains on this earth, but I’m a huge Dolomites fan. Is there anything better than being able to leave your house and explore this amazing nature? It’s insane! Even though I prefer to climb steep walls, easy hikes around here make me just as happy. There needs to be a balance. Also, there’s always something different to do. Even if I hike the Cima Grande di Lavaredo five times a week, it’s never boring”, he tells me enthusiastically. Occupation and vocation are the same thing to this man full of joie de vivre. He only has one goal: “If I manage to grow old, I’ve reached everything. If there is still something on my bucket list by then, it doesn’t matter!”

Hoch oben in den Stubaier Alpen, direkt auf dem Gipfel des Bechers, thront ein letzter Zufluchtsort: das legendäre Becherhaus, Südtirols höchstgelegene Schutzhütte. In dieser an sich menschenfeindlichen Umgebung, auf 3195 Metern, herrschen eigene Gesetze. Seit der Erbauung im Jahre 1894 trotzt das Refugium den Elementen und bietet von Ende Juni bis Mitte September abenteuerlustigen Bergsteigern ein Dach über den Kopf. An der Türschwelle empfängt sie dort mit einem freundlichen Händedruck der überaus sympathische Hüttenwirt Erich Pichler. Wir haben mit ihm über seinen mühsamen und doch erfüllenden Alltag gesprochen.

Al loro arrivo, vengono accolti con una calorosa stretta di mano dal simpaticissimo padrone di casa Erich Pichler. Abbiamo parlato con lui della sua faticosa ma appagante vita quotidiana.

Right on the peak of the Becher, high up in the Stubai Alps, there is one last refuge: the legendary Becherhaus, or Rifugio Gino Biasi. This otherwise misanthropic landscape, sitting at 3195 meters a. s. l. follows its own rules, but the hut has been braving the elements since it was built back in 1894. It offers adventurous mountaineers a roof over their heads from the end of June until mid September. Erich Pichler, the very likable man who runs the Becherhaus, will greet you with a warm handshake right at the threshold. We spoke to him about his arduous yet fulfilling daily routine.

Herr Pichler, haben Sie auf dem Becherhaus auch mal Zeit für sich? Auf jeden Fall, wobei ich hoffe, dass ich diesen Sommer wenig Zeit für mich habe (lacht)! Denn viel Freizeit bedeutet, dass wegen schlechten Wetters keine Gäste da sind und da die Saison nur sehr kurz ist, im besten Fall von Ende Juni bis Mitte September, zählt jeder Tag. Wie kamen Sie zur Ihrer Tätigkeit als Hüttenwirt? Schon als junger Bub bin ich auf dem Becherhaus gewesen, und als ausgebildeter Skilehrer und Bergführer war es für mich immer ein Traum, ein Schutzhaus zu betreiben. Für mich kam nur das Becherhaus in Frage. Der italienische Alpenverein CAI suchte 2001 nach einem neuen Wirt, also habe ich mich dafür beworben. Nach einigem Hin und Her erhielt ich den Zuschlag und ich ging das Wagnis ein – obwohl ich damals eine gutgehende Bergführerschule leitete. Dazu muss gesagt werden, dass ich ohne die Unterstützung meiner Familie nicht in der Lage wäre, davon zu leben. Was macht das Becherhaus für Sie zu etwas Besonderem? Meine Frau und meine beiden Töchter sind jeden Sommer mit mir auf dem Becherhaus. Ohne meine Frau könnte ich das Haus nicht selbständig führen. Dort oben hat eine meiner Töchter mit einem Jahr sogar das Laufen gelernt. Mittlerweile gehört die Schutzhütte einfach zur Familie. Davon abgesehen, ist die Lage faszinierend: Direkt am Gipfel gelegen, ist das Becherhaus selbst das Ziel einer jeden Route. Im Jahr 1894 als „Kaiserin-Elisabeth-Haus“ unter unvorstellbaren Strapazen errichtet, wurde auch eine Kapelle darin verbaut. Ein Pfarrer wurde damals eigens für 30 stationierte Bergführer angestellt. „Maria im Schnee“ ist heute das höchstgelegene Marienheiligtum der Alpen. Besonders ist auch die atemberaubende Rundumsicht auf die Stubaier Alpen und die Dolomiten. Bei glasklarem Wetter sieht man sogar die Adria schimmern. Gerne pflege ich noch zu sagen: Wenn man die Ohren spitzt, hört man auch die Gondolieri singen (lacht)!

Wie sieht ein normaler Tagesablauf auf 3195 Metern aus? Der Tag beginnt zwischen 4 und 5 Uhr, ich koche Wasser und bereite das Frühstück zu, das den Gästen ab 6 Uhr serviert wird. Anschließend helfen mir meine Frau und zwei Mitarbeiter beim Reinigen der Zimmer und Bettlager. Ab 9 Uhr gönnen wir uns ein Frühstück und können erstmals an die frische Luft. Um 10 Uhr kommen die ersten Gäste, die es zu verköstigen gilt. Ich kümmere mich um sie, gebe Auskunft über Routen und Wetter; zusätzlich fallen immer wieder Reparaturen und andere Instandhaltungsarbeiten an. Ab 16 Uhr kochen wir das Abendessen, das

Wie läuft die Versorgung mit dem Notwendigsten ab? Alles Nötige muss mit dem Hubschrauber geliefert werden. Hierfür wird im Juni der Landeplatz vom Schnee geräumt, was in dieser Höhe kein Zuckerschlecken ist, immerhin schöpft man von Hand, und das auch noch bei einem Drittel weniger Sauerstoff wie im Tal! Es folgen die Lieferungen mit Brennholz, Kohle und Diesel, anschließend die Lebensmittel und Getränke. Beim Ein- bzw. Ausladen unterstützen mich fleißige Helfer.

Seit 2001 sind Sie Hüttenwirt im Becherhaus. Inwiefern hat sich der Klimawandel auch auf dem Gletscher bemerkbar gemacht? Der Gletscher hat sich zurückgebildet, auf beinahe 3200 Höhenmetern wachsen heute sogar Gräser und Blumen. Früher gelangte man nur mit Steigeisen zum Becherhaus und dem Gletscher, heute ist die Route über das Ridnauntal komplett eisfrei. Das ermöglicht es allen – Kondition und Bergerfahrung vorausgesetzt – die Schutzhütte auch ohne Steigeisen und professioneller Begleitung zu erreichen.

Sig. Pichler, riesce a trovare anche un po’ di tempo per Lei qui al rifugio? Certamente, anche se spero di averne poco questa estate (ride)! Se ho tanto tempo libero a disposizione, significa che, a causa del maltempo, non sono venuti ospiti. Se va bene, la stagione dura da fine giugno a metà settembre. Visto che è così breve, ogni giorno conta.

Come è arrivato a diventare il gestore di un rifugio? Già da piccolo, avevo visitato il Rifugio Gino Biasi. Come maestro di sci e guida alpina qualificata, è sempre stato un sogno per me avere un rifugio tutto mio e avevo occhi solo per il Bicchiere. Nel 2001, il CAI (Club Alpino Italiano) cercava un nuovo gestore e ho colto la palla al balzo. Dopo una fase d’incertezza, il progetto andò in porto e scelsi di sfidare l’azzardo, nonostante gestissi una scuola per guide alpine ben avviata. C’è da dire, però, che senza il supporto della mia famiglia non potrei vivere unicamente di questa attività.

Cosa rende unico il Rifugio Bicchiere? Mia moglie e le mie due figlie sono con me ogni

estate, qui al Gino Biasi. Senza di lei non sarei in grado di gestirlo da solo. Quassù, una delle mie due bambine ha perfino imparato a camminare. Ormai, il rifugio fa parte della famiglia. A parte questa premessa, la posizione è suggestiva: situato direttamente sulla vetta, il Rifugio Bicchiere è di per sé una meta escursionistica. Nel 1894, anno in cui con incredibili sforzi fu realizzato e intitolato all’Imperatrice Sissi, fu costruita al suo interno anche una cappella. All’epoca, alle trenta guide alpine di stanza, fu aggregato anche un parroco. “Santa Maria della Neve” è oggi il santuario mariano alla maggiore altitudine nell’arco alpino. Anche la vista mozzafiato a 360° sulle Alpi dello Stubai e sulle Dolomiti è davvero speciale. Quando il cielo è limpido, si può perfino scorgere il luccichio dell’Adriatico. Come sono solito dire: se si tende l’orecchio, è possibile udire anche il canto dei gondolieri (ride)! Come si articola una normale giornata a 3195 metri? Mi sveglio alle 4 o alle 5. Faccio bollire l’acqua e preparo la colazione, che vie-

ne servita agli ospiti a partire dalle 6. Poi, mia moglie e due collaboratori mi aiutano con la pulizia delle camere e delle cuccette. Dopo le 9, ci concediamo un boccone e respiriamo finalmente un po’ d’aria fresca. Verso le 10, arrivano i primi ospiti da “sfamare”. Mi occupo di loro, fornendo informazioni su itinerari e meteo. Inoltre, si aggiungono di continuo riparazioni e altri lavori di manutenzione. Alle 16, iniziamo a cucinare la cena, portata in tavola alle 18:30. Nessuno di noi va a dormire prima delle 23 perché prima bisogna riordinare e lavare tutto.

Come avviene la fornitura dei beni di prima necessità? Tutto il necessario deve essere trasportato in elicottero. A tal proposito, a giugno viene liberato il campo di atterraggio dalla neve. Non è proprio una passeggiata visto che bisogna spalare a mano respirando un terzo di ossigeno in meno rispetto a valle! Facciamo arrivare legna da ardere, carbone e carburante, insieme a prodotti alimentari e bevande. Dei solerti aiutanti mi affiancano nelle fasi di carico e scarico.

Da dove arrivano acqua ed energia elettrica? L’acqua deve essere trasportata in superficie da una profondità di 280 metri con una pompa alimentata a corrente. L’energia elettrica viene prodotta attraverso un generatore diesel e un impianto fotovoltaico e immagazzinata in batterie. L’acqua del ghiacciaio può essere utilizzata per cucinare e pulire, mentre quella potabile viene trasportata via elicottero. Dal 2001, gestisce il Rifugio Gino Biasi. In che misura si è fatto notare il cambiamento climatico anche sul ghiacciaio? Il ghiacciaio si sta ritirando. A quasi 3200 metri di altitudine crescono perfino erbe e fiori. Un tempo, si arrivava al rifugio e al ghiacciaio solo con ramponi, mentre oggi il percorso attraverso la Val Ridanna non presenta tratti ghiacciati. Ciò consente a tutti, condizione fisica ed esperienza in montagna permettendo, di raggiungere il rifugio anche senza ramponi e guide professionali. A questo punto sorge un’ultima domanda: cosa rappresenta per Lei il termine “lusso”? Fondamentalmente, piccole cose, ad esempio l’acqua corrente calda. Oppure un quotidiano e il pane fresco del fornaio…

Mr. Pichler, do you even find time for yourself in the Becherhaus? Absolutely, although I really hope to find less time for myself this summer (laughs)! A lot of time off means that the weather is bad, which in turn means that there are no guests. Since the sea-

son in the best case scenario runs only from the end of June to mid September, which is very short, every day counts.

How did you come to run this hut? I’ve already been to the Becherhaus when I was a young boy. As a trained ski instructor and mountain guide it’s always been my dream to run my own refuge. For me, it had to be the Becherhaus. The Italian Alpine Club CAI was looking for a new innkeeper back in 2001, so I sent my application right away. After a bit of a stop-go, I finally got accepted and took the risk. This, even though back then I was running a prosperous mountain guide school. The unique place the hut is situated and its long history make the Becherhaus truly special. I would however like to add, that I would not be able to live only off the hut’s profits without the help of my family.

What makes the Becherhaus special in your opinion? My wife and my two daughters spend every summer here with me. Without my wife I would not be able to run the refuge at all. One of my daughters even learned to walk up there last year. The Becherhaus almost feels like a family member by now. The location of the house itself is also extremely fascinating, it is situated right at the peak, making it the destination of many routes. It was built under unimaginably dire conditions back in 1984 as “Kaiserin-Elisabeth-Haus (House-ofEmpress-Elisabeth)”. There also used to be a chapel where they employed a priest for the 30 stationed mountain guides. “Maria im Sch-

How does a day at 3195 meters above sea level look? The day begins between 4 and 5 AM. I boil water and prepare breakfast, which is served to our guests starting at 6 AM. After that, my wife and our two staff members clean the rooms and field beds. At around 9 AM we enjoy our own breakfast and get to go out and smell the fresh air. Around 10 AM the first hiking guests arrive and we prepare food for them and keep them entertained. We take good care of them and give them informations about the weather and hiking routes. There is also always something that needs repairing or maintenance. At 4 PM we start preparing dinner, which is served at half past 6. Then we do more cleaning and wash the dishes. Usually no one gets to go to bed before 11 PM.

How do you get all the essentials? The essentials are delivered with the helicopter. For this reason we free the landing place of all the snow in June. This is quite the task, as it is all manual labor - and don’t forget that there is only 1/3rd of the oxygen up here compared to the valley! They first deliver firewood, charcoal and diesel, then groceries and drinks. I have hard working helpers to get the things from the helicopter to the hut. How do you get water and electricity? The water has to be pumped up from 280 meters deeper with an electrical pump. The electricity for that is gained through a diesel generator set and a photovoltaic plant and then stored in batteries. We can use the glacial water to cook and clean, the drinking water is flown in with the helicopter.

You run the Becherhaus since 2001. How has the climate change affected you? The glacier regressed quite a lot. You can find grasses and flowers at 3200 meters above sea level now. You used to only get up here with climbing irons, today the route via the Ridnaun Valley is completely ice-free. This allows everyone with good stamina and hiking experience to reach the refuge without climbing irons and professional guides. We have to ask: What is luxury to you? To me it’s the small things, like warm running water. Or a daily newspaper and freshly baked bread from the bakery… SUMMER 2018

Vom Ridnauntal: Hüttenwirt Erich Pichler empfiehlt die „einfachste“ und bekannteste Route ab Maiern, am Ende des Ridnauntals. Parkmöglichkeiten gibt es am Bergbaumuseum Schneeberg. Von dort führt der eisfreie Weg über die Aglsbodenalm, die Grohmannhütte und die Teplitzer Hütte hinauf bis zum Becherhaus (keine Steigeisen erforderlich).

Vom Passeiertal: Der „Heimweg“ des Hüttenwirts! Startpunkt: Timmelsbrücke, Parkmöglichkeiten gibt es vor und nach der Brücke. Über die Timmelsalm bis zum Schwarzsee und die Schwarzwandscharte (Achtung: Anseilen!), anschließend über den Übeltalferner Gletscher zum Becherhaus. Die Route ist nicht eisfrei und erfordert sowohl Gamaschen als auch Gletscherausrüstung.

Vom Stubaital (Österreich): Teil der Stubaier Grenzrunde. Startpunkt: Nürnberger Hütte (2280 m). Vorbei am Freiger See, über die Rotgratscharte (3012 m) und auf den von der Teplitzer Hütte kommenden Weg zum Becherhaus hinauf. Achtung: nicht eisfrei, teils ausgesetzt.

Dalla Val Ridanna: Erich Pichler consiglia l’itinerario più noto e “semplice” da Masseria, alla fine della Val Ridanna. Possibilità di parcheggio presso il Museo provinciale delle Miniere. Da qui, si arriva al Gino Biasi passando per la malga Aglsboden e i rifugi Vedretta Piana e Vedretta Pendente (assenza di ghiaccio, ramponi non richiesti).

Drei Stunden Handarbeit für einen Stiefel. Seit über zehn Jahren ist Adriano Zorzi der exklusive Schuh-Partner des Labels „Luis Trenker“. Der 55-Jährige leitet die Manufaktur „Calzaturificio Tre Cime“ im Städtchen Altivole bei Montebelluna in der Provinz Treviso. Die Gegend hat sich seit Ende des Zweiten Weltkrieges den Beinamen „Zentrum für Bergschuhe“ erarbeitet. Wann immer Stefano, Adrianos jüngster Sohn, Zeit hat, hilft er in der Werkstatt mit. Der Fachhochschüler, 21, setzt die Ideen von „Luis-Trenker“-Chefdesigner Gionata Malagodi und Geschäftsführer Michi Klemera in Schnitt und Form um. Adriano selbst nimmt ein Stück Kalbsleder aus dem Stapel und streicht mit der Hand vorsichtig darüber. „Dieses Stück stammt aus der Toskana und ist pflanzlich gegerbt“, erklärt er mit einem gewissen Stolz in der Stimme. Oft schneidet Gianni, der Schnittmeister, das Leder noch von Hand zu: „Wir stellen unsere Schuhe nach einer alten Weise her, bei der Oberleder und Sohle mit einer aufwändig genähten Kappnaht verbunden werden. Das entspricht genau dem Stil von Luis Trenker. Die meisten Schuhmacher verzichten auf diese aufwendige Methode.“

Das kommt für die Zorzis nicht in Frage, sie halten daran fest. Das gefällt auch Klemera, denn was könnte besser zu „Luis Trenker“ passen, als eine alte Herstellungsweise, die auf moderne Anforderungen angepasst wird? Drei Stunden Arbeit, die meiste von Hand, stecken in einem Paar Stiefel aus der BERG-Kollektion. Die Stücke sind funktional und so morsch, dass man in ihnen auch locker an der Champagnerbar anstoßen oder einen Stadtbummel machen

kann. Und damit schließt sich der Kreis zum bekannten Südtiroler Alpinisten und Regisseur Luis Trenker, der mit seinem Freiheitsdrang Grenzen überschritt. „Er ist mit genagelten Bergstiefeln in den Marmorsälen der Prominenz herumgehüpft und hat sein Ding einfach durchgezogen“, schmunzelt Klemera. Auch er hinterlässt mit seiner Mode ein klares Statement und genau darum geht es. Damals wie heute. SUMMER 2018

Da oltre dieci anni, Adriano Zorzi è il partner di fiducia del marchio “Luis Trenker” in ambito di calzature. Il 55enne guida il “Calzaturificio Tre Cime” nella cittadina di Altivole presso Montebelluna, in provincia di Treviso. La zona ha ottenuto la nomea di “centro mondiale della calzatura sportiva” nel secondo dopoguerra. Ogni volta che ne ha l’occasione, Stefano, il figlio più giovane di Adriano, apporta il suo contributo nella ditta. Il 21enne studente universitario dà forma alle idee di Michi Klemera, proprietario del brand “Luis Trenker”, e del suo chef designer Gionata Malagodi. Adriano in persona prende un pezzo di pelle di vitello dalla pila e lo tasta: “Questo proviene dalla Toscana ed è conciato vegetalmente”, spiega lasciando trasparire un certo orgoglio. Spesso, Gianni, il tagliatore dell’azienda, tratta la pelle ancora a mano: “Realizziamo le nostre scarpe alla vecchia maniera, fissando la suola alla tomaia tramite un’impegnativa cucitura doppia. Ciò definisce precisamente lo stile di “Luis Trenker”. “Gran parte dei calzolai rinunciano a questa tecnica così dispendiosa. Gli Zorzi, invece, rimangono fedeli alla tradizione. Tale peculiarità viene apprezzata anche da Klemera. Infatti, che cosa ci sarebbe di più “calzante” per “Luis Trenker” di un antico metodo di produzione adattato alle esigenze attuali? Un paio di scarponi della collezione BERG racchiudono tre ore di lavoro, buona parte artigianale. Le calzature sono funzionali e così morbide che potrebbero essere indossate per andare a uno champagne bar o fare una passeggiata in città. E così si chiude il cerchio con Luis Trenker, il celebre alpinista e regista altoatesino che con la sua brama di libertà superò ogni confine. “È balzato nelle sale marmoree della celebrità con scarponi chiodati rimanendo sempre fedele a se stesso”, sorride Klemera. Anche lui, con il suo abbigliamento, esprime un messaggio chiaro ed è questo ciò che conta. Oggi come un tempo. 46

For more than ten years, Adriano Zorzi has been the exclusive shoe partner of the label “Luis Trenker”. The region has been dubbed “the center for hiking shoes” since the end of the war. Stefano, Adriano’s oldest son, works in the company whenever he can. Adriano himself takes out a piece of calfskin from a pile and feels it in his hand. “This piece comes from Tuscany and has been tanned herbally”, he explains with a certain tone of pride in his voice. Gianni, the master of cuts, still cuts the leather by hand. “We produce our shoes the old school way. The vamp and sole are sewn together with an elaborate lap-felled seam.

That’s exactly the style Luis Trenker loved”, he tells us. Most shoemakers do without this method, but that is out of the question for the Zorzi family. This tradition will prevail in their company. Klemera is really happy about this as well: What could fit “Luis Trenker” better than an old production method that is adapted to modern needs? Three hours of mostly manual labor are put into a pair of boots from the BERG collection. Each piece is extremely functional and also stylish. It doesn’t matter if you’re heading to the champagne-bar or go on a shopping spree, they look great in any situation. This is where the circle of the alpinist and film director Luis Trenker closes: he always crossed borders with his desire of freedom. “He used to wear his hobnailed hiking boots to the marble saloons of the high society. He just did his thing”, Klemera says with a cheeky smile. He also makes a clear statement with his fashion and that’s what it is all about. Then and now.

Dort, wo man es sich am wenigsten erwartet, zeigt sich Bozen von seiner kreativsten Seite. Fernab des Trubels und der Schickeria der Bozner Innenstadt dominieren Mauern und Beton. Grau in Grau wirkt die Realität unweit des Bahnhofareals. Und doch sind da bunte Farbtupfer – der Versuch von Sprayern, sich bei einer Nacht-und-Nebel-Aktion im urbanen Dschungel zu verewigen. Plötzlich, als würde sich das Gehirn einen klitzekleinen Scherz erlauben, steht da auf der Linken ein großes Schaufenster, sorgfältig blank poliert. Beinahe surreal wirkt die unverhoffte Szenerie. Erst recht, weil auf der anderen Seite der Glasfassade ein Mann in der Hocke starr seinen Blick auf die wenigen Passanten richtet, die sich bis hierher verirren. Er ist nicht aus Fleisch und Blut, sondern aus Lindenholz gefertigt und dennoch wirkt er realer als so mancher Zeitgenosse. Er ist der stumme Wächter eines unscheinbaren Hinterhofes, der ein gut behütetes Geheimnis wahrt. Das Warten und Verweilen ist ihm vorbestimmt. Sein Schöpfer, hat es so gewollt...

Lì, dove meno te lo aspetti, Bolzano mostra il suo volto creativo. Lontano dalla frenesia e dall’atmosfera chic del centro storico, dominano muri e cemento. Poco distante dall’area della stazione, la realtà assume tinte grigie. Eppure, si possono scorgere variopinte macchie di colore, il tentativo di sprayer in incognito di lasciare un segno indelebile nella giungla urbana. Tutt’a un tratto, come se la mente giocasse uno scherzetto, a sinistra appare una grande vetrina tirata a lucido. Lo scenario insperato ha un effetto quasi surreale. Soprattutto perché, al di là del vetro, un uomo inginocchiato fissa con lo sguardo i pochi passanti finiti qui per sbaglio. Non si tratta di un individuo in carne e ossa ma di una scultura in legno di tiglio. Ciononostante, appare di un vivido realismo. È il muto testimone di un cortile interno poco appariscente, che conserva un segreto ben protetto. Il destino a lui riservato è un’eterna attesa. Il suo creatore ha voluto così…

Bolzano shows its creative side in a place you would least expect to find it. Far away from the busy high society of the town center of Bolzano, you’ll find concrete and walls. Different shades of gray make up this reality, which is not far from the train station. Yet, you can find splashes of colour: sprayers that tried to immortalise themselves in this urban jungle - usually done in a cloak and dagger operation. In between this and that, suddenly a polished display window. It’s almost as if your brain is trying to play a trick on you, that’s how surreal it looks. Especially, since on the other side of that glass, there is a man sitting on a stool, staring out at the very few passerby. Even though he’s not made of flesh and blood, but made of limewood, he looks more alive than many person. The silent guardian of a nondescript neighbourhood, that is also the keeper of a big secret. His waiting and abidance is his destiny, that’s what his creator had intended for him...

Gleich um die Ecke öffnet sich hufeisenartig ein kleines Areal. Zwischen mächtigen Baumstämmen, Topfpflanzen und Holzpaletten, die wie zufällig hier platziert scheinen, steht ein gelber Gabelstapler – als wäre er kurzerhand hier abgestellt worden. Von oben herab leuchten drei große, blassrote Lettern, die das Kürzel LAB formen. Bei näherer Betrachtung fügt sich das Bild zu einem kreativen Chaos, das dennoch seine natürliche Ordnung hat. Dies ist der Sitz der Gemeinschaftswerkstatt RU17, wo Fabiano De Martin Topranin mit anderen Künstlern und Designern ein kleines Reich der schöpferischen Vielfalt teilt. In der Luft liegt der zarte Duft von Holz, der in dieser Betonwüste am Bozner Boden beinahe bizarre Gedanken an einen Wald in der Stadt aufleben lässt. Genau dieser Kontrast zwischen dem Natürlichen und Urbanen prägt die Skulpturen des jungen Bildhauers aus Belluno. Nach einer mehrjährigen Ausbildung an der Kunsthochschule in Gröden, dem Mekka der Holzschnitzerei, hat der 34-Jährige in der Südtiroler Landeshauptstadt seine neue Heimat gefunden. „Auch wenn ich den Großteil meiner Zeit in Bozen verbringe, so bin ich geprägt von den Bergen sowie von den Wäldern, die sie umgeben“, verrät De Martin Topranin. Seine ausdrucksstarken Skulpturen, in denen würdevolle Sujets der traditionellen Holzschnitzkunst mit modernen Gesellschaftsthemen und Ausdrucksweisen verschmelzen,

entspringen dem Verlangen, die Dinge tiefgründig zu erforschen – über die Formen hinweg und in die Formen hinein zu schauen. Und genau das strahlen seine Kunstwerke auch aus: „Man könnte sagen: Ich liebe meinen Beruf, als körperlichen Akt, aber auch als Futter für den Intellekt. Mir gefällt der Gedanke, dass meine Skulpturen einer Erzählung entspringen, die nie geschrieben wurde. Daher würde ich meinen Stil als figurativ-erzählend beschreiben. Es ist so, als ob ich an einem bestimmten Punkt zu genau dem zurückgekehrt wäre, was mir bereits als Kind gefiel: mir meine eigenen Welten vorzustellen und Geschichten zu erfinden. Jede künstlerische Suche beinhaltet Persönlichkeiten einer nicht perfekt definierten Story – mit Titeln, die Momente ausdrücken und zu Kapiteln werden. Insofern erzählen meine Arbeiten von Forschern, Entdeckern und Hütern des Raumes, der Städte und der Wälder.“ Als Paradebeispiel dieses kreativen Gedankenspiels gilt eine Skulptur, die in der Südtiroler Kunstszene für großes Aufsehen gesorgt hat: ein 150 Kilogramm schwerer Astronaut aus Zedernholz, der auf einer Anhöhe im Naturpark Fanes-Sennes-Prags seine wahre Bestimmung gefunden hat. In ihm wird mit einer leichten Ironie die Suche nach dem Anderen, nach neuen Planeten und ferneren Orten aufgezeigt. Gleichzeitig manifestiert sich durch ihn die Bewunderung für die außerordentlichen Fels-

formationen dieses Hochplateaus, das mit ein wenig Fantasie an eine Mondlandschaft erinnert. Die Außenwelt spiegelt sich in der reflektierenden Blende des Astronauten wider. So spaltet sich die Wahrnehmung und verliert sich in der majestätischen Landschaft. Was als etwas bizarre Idee geboren ist, entpuppt sich als erhabener Kontrast, immerhin ist Holz ein antikes, natürliches Material, das dazu genutzt wurde, um eine futuristische Vision zu verwirklichen, schließlich und endlich handelt es sich um einen Astronauten. Für De Martin Topranin war der Anblick seiner Schöpfung auf der Fane Alm ein Moment der Offenbarung: „Als ich den Astronauten dort oben sah, war ich selbst ein wenig gerührt. Von Anfang an stand er da als hätte er seine natürliche Umgebung gefunden. Das ist deshalb so wichtig, weil ich in meinen Arbeiten Menschen als Entdecker darstelle. Manchmal erkunden sie Wälder und manchmal, wie im Falle des Astronauten, den Planeten Fanes. Wir wissen nicht, ob er es ist, der unseren Planeten betritt und uns betrachtet oder ob wir gerade eine uns fremde Welt betreten. Beides ist möglich.“ Mittlerweile hat der Astronaut seinen privilegierten Standort verlassen. Erst kürzlich ist er in einer großen Privatkollektion eines italienischen Geschäftsmannes gelandet. Wer weiß, was es dort zu entdecken gibt? Eines ist gewiss: Er wird Spuren hinterlassen…zumindest im Auge des Betrachters.

Subito dopo aver svoltato l’angolo, si apre un piccolo spazio a forma di ferro di cavallo. Fra imponenti tronchi, piante in vaso e pallet di legno, che sembrano trovarsi qui per caso, spicca un carrello elevatore giallo, a prima vista parcheggiato senza troppi pensieri. Dall’alto in basso, brillano tre grandi lettere di colore rosso chiaro, che formano la sigla LAB. Osservato più da vicino, il quadro d’insieme si trasfigura in un caos creativo, contraddistinto comunque da un ordine naturale percepibile. Questa è la sede dell’atelier-officina RU17, dove Fabiano De Martin Topranin condivide un piccolo regno della varietà espressiva con altri artisti e designer. Nell’aria, si respira un profumo tenue di legno, che fa sorgere l’idea quasi bizzarra di un bosco in città, nel bel mezzo di un mare di asfalto. Proprio il contrasto tra naturale e urbano permea le opere del giovane scultore bellunese. Dopo una pluriennale formazione presso la scuola professionale per l’artigianato artistico in Val Gardena — mecca degli intagliatori -, il 34enne ha stabilito la sua nuova dimora nel capoluogo altoatesino. “Pur trascorrendo gran parte del mio tempo a Bolzano, sono influenzato dalle montagne e dai boschi che le circondano”, svela De Martin Topranin. Le sue sculture di grande forza espressiva, che fondono soggetti solenni della tradizione con tematiche e atteggiamenti tipici della società contemporanea, nascono dalla volontà di studiare a fondo le cose, guardando al di là e dentro le forme. Le sue creazioni riflettono proprio questo desiderio: “Si potrebbe dire che amo il mio lavoro come atto fisico ma anche come nutrimento per l’intelletto. Mi piace pensare che le sculture nascano da una storia mai scritta prima. Pertanto, definirei il mio stile come figurativo-narrativo. È come se a un certo punto avessi ripreso a fare precisamente quello che mi divertiva da bambino: immaginarmi mondi tutti miei e inventare racconti. Ogni ricerca artistica comprende personalità di una trama non perfettamente definita, con titoli che esprimono momenti e diventano capitoli. I miei lavori raccontano di esploratori e custodi dello spazio, delle città e dei boschi.” L’esempio emblematico di questo creativo gioco di pensieri è una scultura che ha suscitato grande scalpore nella scena artistica altoatesina: un astronauta di 150 chili in legno di cedro, che ha trovato la sua vera dimensione su un’altura nel parco naturale Fanes-Senes-Braies. La figura illustra con una leggera ironia la ricerca dell’altro, di nuovi pianeti e luoghi più lontani. Al tempo stesso, esprime la meraviglia per le straordinarie formazioni rocciose di questo altopiano, che ricorda con un po’ di fantasia un paesaggio lunare. Il mondo esterno si specchia nella visiera riflettente del cosmonauta. In questo modo, la percezione si frammenta, perdendosi nel maestoso scena-

rio. Quella che era nata come un’idea un po’ bizzarra si rivela come un sublime contrasto. Dopotutto, il legno è un antico materiale naturale, utilizzato per realizzare una visione futuristica. Per De Martin Topranin, la vista della sua creazione alla Malga Fane è stata un momento di rivelazione: “Quando ho visto l’astronauta lassù, mi sono commosso un pochino. Sin dall’inizio, si ergeva lì, come se avesse trovato il suo habitat naturale. Questa integrazione armoniosa nel paesaggio è molto importante perché nelle mie opere raffiguro gli esseri umani come scopritori. A volte esplorano

boschi, mentre altre il pianeta Fanes, come nel caso del cosmonauta. Non sappiamo se è lui che si addentra nel nostro universo e ci osserva o se siamo noi stessi a entrare in una realtà ignota. Entrambe le opzioni sono possibili.” Nel frattempo, l’astronauta ha lasciato il suo ambiente prediletto. Ora fluttua in una grande collezione privata di un commerciante italiano. Cosa ci sarà da esplorare? Quel che è certo, è che lascerà un segno tangibile… almeno nell’occhio dell’osservatore.

Right around the corner an area in the shape of a horseshoe opens up. There’s a yellow forklift that almost looks lost in between impressive tree trunks, potted plants and wooden planks. There are three big, pale red letters that form the acronym LAB that are lit up from the top down. Stepping a bit closer, you will find it to look like an intentional creative chaos, that still holds its natural order. This is where De Martin Topranin and his creative collective RU17 have made their little kingdom. There is the faint scent of wood in the air, that takes your thoughts on a trip out of Bolzano and right into the woods. This contrast between the urban and the natural is what inspires the young sculptor from Belluno most. After a few years of education at the art school of Gröden, the “Mecca of woodcrafts”, 34 year old Fabiano chose Bolzano as his new hometown. “Even if I spend most of my time in Bolzano, I’m much more affected by the mountains and forests that surround it”, he reveals. His very expressive sculptures combine modern themes of society with the old art of woodcarving. They are born from his desire to explore certain themes deeply and discover new forms though old ones. And that’s exactly what his works express: “You could say I love my job, both as a physical act and as an intellectual challenge. I like the thought of my sculptures being born through a tale that has never been written down. I’d describe my work as figurative-narrative. It feels to me, as if at some point I was able to turn back and live my childhood dream: imagining entire worlds and coming up with stories all day long. Every artistic search holds personalities of a non-defined story with titles that express moments, which then turn into chapters. In this respect, my work tells of scientists, explorers and keepers of space, of cities and forests.” The prime example of this creative “game of the mind” is a 150 kg astronaut sculpture he made, which had a big impact on the South Tyrolean art scene. The sculpture now calls the Nature Park Fanes-Sennes-Prags its home. This spaceman (slightly ironically) shows you the search for new things, for new planets and far away places. At the same time you cannot help but be in awe of the impressive rock formations of the high plateau, that with a little imagination could easily be a moon landscape. The astronaut’s helmet reflects the outer world, splitting the perception, which gets lost in this sublime landscape. What was born as a somewhat bizarre idea turned out as a bold contrast. Wood is after all an ancient, natural material that in this case has been used to realize a futuristic vision: an astronaut. Seeing his creation there, on the Fane Alm, was a moment of revelation: “When I saw the astronaut up there, I 56

was moved. He stood there, as if he’d been there from the start, as if he belonged there. This is crucial, because in my work I want to show people as explorers. Sometimes they explore forests, and sometimes, like the astronaut, they explore planet Fanes. We don’t know if he is the stranger here, exploring the

unknown, or if we are. Both is possible.” By now the astronaut had to leave his privileged site. It’s recently been bought by a Italian businessman. Who knows what could be explored in his private collection? One thing is for certain: He will leave traces… at least in the eye of the beholder.

Wie so oft, ist es die Fantasie eines Kindes, die den Stein ins Rollen bringt. Kommen Hartnäckigkeit und persönlicher Einsatz hinzu, werden Träume wahr. Bei Günther Steiner, Teamchef des amerikanischen F1-Rennstalls Haas, war es genau so. „In meiner Kindheit war die Leidenschaft für Motoren nicht viel verbreitet. Ich war einer der Wenigen“, verrät der 53-Jährige aus Meran. „Wenn auf der Mendel oder auf der Strecke Trient-Bondone ein Rennen ausgetragen wurde, bat ich meinen Vater immer, mich hinzubringen. Meine Liebe zu den Autos begann genau zu dieser Zeit.“ Seine Gedanken führen ihn zu seinen Wurzeln, auf die der Südtiroler sehr stolz ist, obwohl er seit Jahren in Mooresville in den USA lebt. „Ich habe zahlreiche schöne Erinnerungen an Meran. Wenn ich die Gelegenheit dazu habe, komme ich mit meiner Familie zu Besuch, drei Wochen im Sommer und zu Weihnachten. Es fühlt sich immer noch wie mein Zuhause an und letztendlich ist Südtirol ein wunderschöner Ort, der in seiner Art einzigartig auf der Welt ist. Ich empfehle es jedem“, betont er. Die wahre Antriebskraft von Steiner, der erst kürzlich vom italienischen Fachmagazin Autosprint mit dem „Casco d’Oro“ Preis ausgezeichnet wurde, ist die Familie. „Während den Weltmeisterschaften kommt mich meine Frau vier oder fünf Mal besuchen, meine Tochter Greta weniger oft, weil sie zur Schule muss. Nach einer Woche ohne die beiden, wird es für mich schwer. Zum Glück gibt es die sozialen Medien, die mir helfen, die Distanz zu überbrücken. Die Tatsache, dass ich Gertraud kennengelernt habe, als ich bereits bei der F1 war, hat unsere Beziehung vereinfacht: Sie weiß, was es bedeutet, so eine Arbeit auszuüben.“

Von der Rallye zur Formel 1 Steiner, der als Junge mit Rennfahrlegende Niki Lauda aufwuchs, machte seine Anfänge als Ingenieur im Rallye-Sport, 2002 kam er dann zum F1-Zirkus – als Technischer Direktor bei Jaguar. „Ich erinnere mich gerne zurück, weil ich da noch jung war (lacht). Damals war alles anders, etwas spannender. Wenn man bei den Vorbereitungen oder während dem Rennen einen Fehler machte, war es vorbei. Von den Mitteln, die uns heute zur Verfügung stehen, konnten wir nur träumen. Wenn wir jemanden kontaktieren mussten, während wir um die Welt umherreisten, machten wir ein Telefonat oder schickten ein Fax… Trotzdem, es waren wunderschöne 62

Jahre, in denen ich viel gelernt habe. Der schönste Sieg? Die Safari Rallye in Kenia im Jahre 1999 mit Ford.” David Coulthard, Carlos Sainz, Eddie Irvine bis hin zu Romain Grosjean und Kevin Magnussen. Steiner hat mit vielen großartigen Piloten zusammengearbeitet. Auf die Frage, wer die absolute Nummer eins war, zögert er nicht: „Colin McRae, ohne Zweifel. Im Jahr 2000, bei einem Rallye-Rennen in Spanien, hatte er bereits einen Vorsprung von zwanzig Sekunden als das Auto plötzlich ein ernstzunehmendes Problem aufwies. Wir hatten damals nicht das beste Auto, er gewann trotzdem. Ich erinnere mich noch, wie wir ihm über Funk Glück für das Rennen wünschten. Er hat auf seine ganz eigene Art geantwortet: Ich brauche kein Glück, ich habe Talent. Das war Colin… eine wahre Legende.“

American Dream Gespür, Unternehmungsgeist, Courage und Mut zum Risiko sind nützliche Eigenschaften, um sich in der F1 zu behaupten. Teamchef Günther Steiner aus Meran nutzt diese Skills auch außerhalb seines Jobs. Nach einer flüchtigen Erfahrung bei NASCAR mit Red Bull Racing gründete er in North Carolina die FibreWorks Composites – ein Unternehmen, spezialisiert auf die Herstellung von Carbon-Komponenten für den Motorsport. In diesem Zuge lernte er Gene Haas kennen, Teamboss des gleichnamigen F1-Rennstalls. „Ich wollte wieder in die F1 einsteigen, also arbeitete ich einen Businessplan aus und ging auf die Suche nach einem Investor. Anschließend kam ich über einen Bekannten, den ich von den NASCAR-Zeiten kannte, zu Gene. Nach zwei Verhandlungsjahren nahm das Projekt Form an.“ Bei den letzten zwei Weltmeisterschaften, schaffte es Haas auf den achten Platz der Konstrukteure, der Score wuchs von 29 auf 47. „2018 möchten wir uns weiter verbessern. Ich war schon immer der Meinung, dass es die Passion ist, die zu guten Resultaten führt, nicht die Ambition. Wie ich mit stressigen Situationen umgehe? Indem ich noch härter arbeite, Probleme löse sowie das Team motiviere. Und dann brauche ich nur an meine Tochter zu denken, um zu verstehen, dass die wirklich wichtigen Dinge im Leben ganz andere sind…“ An eine mögliche Zukunft mit Ferrari denkt er derzeit nicht. „Das Ferrari-Werk in Maranello liefert uns die Triebwerke für die Einsitzer und ich bin sehr glücklich über diese Zusammenarbeit. Mit vielen, die dort arbeiten, pflege ich eine gute Freundschaft.“ Aber wie heißt es so schön? Sag niemals nie...

Come spesso accade, tutto ha inizio dall’immaginazione di un bambino. Poi, sono la tenacia e la dedizione insite in ognuno di noi a realizzare il sogno. Per Günther Steiner, team principal della Haas, scuderia statunitense di Formula 1, è stato così. “Quando ero piccolo, la passione per i motori non era molto diffusa. Io ero in controtendenza”, rivela il 53enne meranese. “Chiedevo sempre a mio padre di portarmi a vedere la Mendola e la Trento-Bondone, le uniche gare che si svolgevano dalle nostre parti. L’amore per le auto è iniziato lì.” Il filo della memoria conduce inevitabilmente alle radici, a cui il manager altoatesino è molto affezionato, nonostante viva da più di dieci anni a Mooresville, negli Stati Uniti. “Di Merano ho tanti bei ricordi. Insieme alla famiglia, ci torno ogni volta che posso, trascorrendovi tre settimane in estate e le festività natalizie. La sento sempre casa mia e poi l’Alto Adige è un luogo bellissimo, unico al mondo. Consiglio a tutti di visitarlo”, sottolinea. Ed è proprio la famiglia la vera “benzina” che alimenta la passione di Steiner, recentemente insignito del Casco d’Oro di Autosprint, storica rivista di settore. “Durante il Mondiale, mia moglie viene a trovarmi quattro-cinque volte, mentre nostra figlia Greta qualcuna in meno per via della scuola. Dopo una settimana che non le vedo, comincia a farsi dura. Per fortuna, ci sono i social a colmare un po’ la distanza. Il fatto di aver conosciuto Gertraud quando già facevo questo lavoro, però, ci ha senz’altro facilitato: lei sa benissimo cosa comporta la mia professione.”

Dai Rally alla Formula 1 Steiner, cresciuto nel mito di Niki Lauda, è un uomo che è partito da lontano; dalle polverose corse di rally sul finire degli anni ’80 – iniziò come ingegnere –, prima di approdare nel dorato Circus della Formula 1 come direttore tecnico della Jaguar nel 2002. “Ripenso a quei tempi volentieri perché ero giovane (ride). All’epoca era tutto molto diverso, a tratti avventuroso. Se commettevi un errore durante la preparazione o la gara, era finita. I mezzi che abbiamo a disposizione oggi ce li sognavamo e, se dovevamo contattare qualcuno mentre eravamo in giro per il globo, usavamo il telefono o il fax. Ciononostante, sono stati anni fantastici, durante i quali ho imparato tantissimo. La vittoria più bella? Quella del Safari Rally in Kenya nel 1999 con la Ford.” 64

Steiner ha collaborato con tanti grandi piloti ma se gli si chiede quale sia il numero uno in assoluto, non ha esitazioni. “Colin McRae, senza dubbio. Nel 2000, durante un rally in Spagna, dopo aver accumulato un vantaggio di venti secondi, riscontrammo un problema serio alla sua macchina. All’epoca, non disponevamo della vettura migliore ma, malgrado tutto, vinse lo stesso. Mi ricordo di una volta in cui, per radio, gli augurammo buona fortuna per la gara. Lui rispose a modo suo: non mi serve fortuna, io ho talento. Questo era Colin… una vera leggenda.”

American Dream Fiuto, intraprendenza, coraggio, voglia di osare sono tutte caratteristiche necessarie per imporsi in F1. Il team principal meranese, però, le ha utilizzate anche fuori dalle piste. Dopo una fugace esperienza anche in NASCAR con la Red Bull Racing, fondò la FibreWorks

Composites in North Carolina, una compagnia che si occupa della realizzazione di componenti in carbonio, attiva in particolare nel mondo dei motori. Fu proprio in quel periodo che conobbe Gene Haas, patron dell’omonima scuderia di Formula 1: “Mi venne l’idea di riprovarci in F1 così preparai un business plan, andando poi alla ricerca di un finanziatore. Successivamente, un mio conoscente in NASCAR mi mise in contatto con Gene. Dopo due anni interlocutori, il progetto prese finalmente corpo.” Negli ultimi due Mondiali, la scuderia statunitense si è posizionata all’ottavo posto della classifica costruttori incrementando lo score di punti realizzati da 29 a 47. “Il nostro obiettivo di quest’anno è migliorare ancora. Ho sempre pensato che è la passione a spingerti verso i risultati, non l’ambizione. Come gestisco lo stress nei momenti difficili? Lavorando di più, superando i problemi e motivando il team. Poi, mi basta pensare a mia figlia per capire che le cose davvero importanti sono altre…” Infine, su un ipotetico futuro tinto di rosso Ferrari, chiosa così: “Al momento non ci penso. La casa di Maranello ci fornisce i propulsori per le monoposto e sono molto felice di questa collaborazione. Con tanti che ci lavorano si è instaurato un vero rapporto di amicizia.” Ma si sa… in questi casi, mai dire mai.

As often happens, everything starts with a child’s imagination. Then, it is the tenacity and dedication inherent in each of us to realize their dream. For Günther Steiner, team principal of Haas, the US Formula 1 team, it all started this way. “When I was young, there was not a widespread passion for engines. I was against the tide. reveals the 53-year-old from Merano. “I always asked my father to take me to see the Mendola and Trento-Bondone, the only races that took place near our home. My love for cars started there.” The thread of memory inevitably leads back to his roots, of which the South Tyrolean manager is very fond, despite having lived for more than ten years in Mooresville, in the United States. “I have many wonderful memories of Merano. I come back every chance I get, together with my family, spending three weeks in the summer and the Christmas holidays. I always feel at home and of course South Tyrol is a beautiful place, truly one-of-a-kind. I advise everyone to visit”, he emphasizes. And it is family that is the real “fuel” that ignites the passion of Steiner, recently awarded the Casco d’Oro by Autosprint, a historical magazine. “During the World Championship, my wife comes to see me four or five times, while our daughter Greta comes less because of school. After a week without seeing them, it starts to get tough. Fortunately, there are social networks to bridge the distance a bit. The fact that I met Gertraud when I was already doing this job, has certainly helped: she knows full well what it means to do this kind of work.”

From Rally to Formula 1 Steiner, raised under the legend of Niki Lauda, is a man who started from afar; from the dusty rally races in the late ‘80s - he began as an engineer -, before landing in the golden Circus of Formula 1 as technical director of Jaguar in 2002. “I think back to those times with nostalgia because I was young (laughs). Back, then it was all very different, sometimes adventurous. If you made a mistake during the preparation or during the race, it was over. The means we have available today we could have never dreamed of. If we had to contact someone while we were around the globe we made a phone call or sent a fax. Nevertheless, they were fantastic years, and I 66

American Dream Instinct, resourcefulness, courage, and audacity are all necessary characteristics to win in F1. The Merano team principal, however, has also used these skills outside the track. After a fleeting experience in NASCAR with

Red Bull Racing, he founded the FibreWorks Composites in North Carolina, a company that deals with the realization of carbon components, particularly dynamic in the world of engines. It was at that time that he met Gene Haas, patron of the homonymous Formula 1 stable: “I wanted to give F1 another try. So I prepared a business plan and went in search of a sponsor. Subsequently, an acquaintance of mine in NASCAR put me in touch with Gene. After two years of meetings, the project finally took shape.” In the last two World Championships, the US team has positioned itself in eighth place of the constructors’ classification, increasing their score of points achieved from 29 to 47. “Our goal this year is to improve again. I’ve always believed that it was passion that pushed you towards results, not ambition. How do I manage stress in difficult times? Working more, overcoming problems and motivating the team. Then, I just think of my daughter to understand what the really important things are...” Finally, on a hypothetical future tinged with Ferrari red, he says: “At the moment I don’t think about it. The Maranello stable provides us with the engines for the cars and I am very happy with this collaboration. A true friendship has been established with so many who work there.” But you know... never say never.

Zubereitung Die Tintenfische putzen, waschen und mit Küchenkrepp trocken tupfen. Den Körper in Streifen schneiden und die Fangarme ganz lassen. In einer Pfanne Olivenöl erwärmen und die Tintenfische darin ca. 3 Min. braten. Die Tintenfische mit Salz, Pfeffer, Petersilie und Knoblauch würzen. Anschließend die Avocadospalten in Olivenöl beidseitig ca. 2 Min. braten, salzen und bereitstellen. Olivenbrot in Scheiben schneiden, mit den Tintenfischen und gebratenen Avocado belegen. Mit einem Dillsträußchen garnieren und servieren.

Apfelperlen auf Holzspieße stecken, ins Glas geben und mit Minze garnieren.

Preparazione: Lavare le mele, togliere i semi, tagliare con la buccia in quarti e aggiungere nella centrifuga. Far bollire il tutto con succo di limone, zucchero, estratto di vaniglia e stecca di cannella. Passare attraverso un setaccio fine. Versare il succo freddo nei bicchieri insieme ai dadini di mela. Infilare le perle in uno stecchino, aggiungere al cocktail e guarnire con la menta.

Klaus Lentsch stammt aus einer alteingesessenen Südtiroler Winzerfamilie aus Branzoll, die seit vier Generationen im Weinbau tätig ist. Mit 18 Jahren übernahm er den Betrieb und erfüllte sich 2008 mit dem Kauf des Hemberghofes in Atzwang den Traum vom eigenen Weingut. Fünf Jahre später ergab sich für ihn die Möglichkeit, den Amperghof in St. Pauls zu erwerben, ein Gut in hervorragender Lage. Dort errichtete er einen Neubau, der Kellerei und Wohnhaus gleichermaßen ist. Der Grundstein für eine vielseitige Weinproduktion war gelegt. „Unsere Reben befinden 76

sich in St. Pauls, Eppan, Kaltern, Pfatten, Branzoll sowie im Eisacktal, und spiegeln die vielen kleinen, charakteristischen Lagen Südtirols wider“, erklärt Lentsch. Unter dem Namen „Bachgart“ wird der Blauburgunder abgefüllt, der „Fuchslahn“ bezeichnet den Gewürztraminer und „Eichberg“ ist der Name des Grünen Veltliners. Alle diese Weine stammen vom Hemberghof im Eisacktal. Die Linie „AMPERG“ führt die Sorten Goldmuskateller, Weißburgunder, Gewürztraminer, Sauvignon, Lagrein und Pinot Grigio. Damit liegt der Fokus des Weinguts bei der Produktion von typi-

schen, regionalen Weinen. Großen Wert legt der Landwirt auch auf Nachhaltigkeit. „Der Boden gehört nicht mir, sondern den folgenden Generationen“, betont Lentsch. „Ich beobachte das Wetter und Klima sehr genau, um möglichst schonend Pflanzenschutz zu betreiben.“ Seit der ersten Stunde ist er Mitglied der Freien Weinbauern Südtirol, welche sich Individualität, Qualität und Eigenständigkeit beim Produktionsablauf auf die Fahne geschrieben haben. „Der Gedankenaustausch gleichgesinnter Weinbauern in Fragen von Politik und gesetzlicher Bestimmungen ist essentiell“, so

Lentsch, der von der Qualität der Südtiroler Weine überzeugt ist. „Sie besitzen eine große Ausgewogenheit, zudem Eleganz und Langlebigkeit. Das Wichtigste aber ist die Trinkfreude, die unsere Weine beim geselligen Beisammensein und gutem Essen vermitteln“, erklärt Lentsch. Nicht ohne Grund war sein Weingut in St. Pauls schon dreimal Schauplatz des Rock-Wine-Food-Events. Für Genießer Klaus Lentsch immer wieder ein Highlight: „Die Veranstaltungsreihe bietet allen eine gute Zeit, die rockige Klänge, exquisites Fingerfood und ein schönes Glas Wein lieben.“

Klaus Lentsch proviene da un’antica famiglia di viticoltori di Bronzolo, attiva nella produzione di vini da quattro generazioni. A 18 anni, ha preso in mano l’attività e nel 2008 ha realizzato il sogno di possedere una tenuta tutta sua con l’acquisto del maso Hemberg a Campodazzo. Cinque anni dopo, gli si è presentata l’opportunità di assicurarsi il podere Amperg a San Paolo, situato in una posizione eccellente. Qui, ha costruito un nuovo edificio, che oggi funge sia da cantina sia da casa. La prima pietra per una variegata produzione vinicola era stata posata. “Le nostre viti si trovano a San Paolo, Appiano, Caldaro, Vadena e Bronzolo nonché in Valle Isarco: riflettono i tanti piccoli, caratteristici terroir dell’Alto Adige”, spiega Lentsch. Il Pinot Nero viene imbottigliato come “Bachgart”, mentre “Fuchslahn” identifica il Gewürztraminer. “Eichberg”, invece, è il nome scelto per il Grüner Veltiner. Tutte queste etichette provengono dal maso Hemberg in Valle Isarco. La linea “AMPERG” inclu-

Il viticoltore, dunque, si concentra su vitigni tipici del territorio, riservando grande importanza anche alla sostenibilità. “Il terreno non appartiene a me, ma alle prossime generazioni”, sottolinea Lentsch. “Valuto accuratamente le condizioni climatiche per tutelare al meglio le mie coltivazioni.” Sin dalla prima ora, è membro dei Vignaioli dell’Alto Adige, che hanno come valori individualità, qualità e indipendenza. “Lo scambio di pensieri tra omologhi in questioni di politica e disposizioni legali è essenziale”, afferma Lentsch. I vini altoatesini per lui sono di assoluto livello: “Si distinguono per un grande equilibrio, eleganza e longevità. Il loro maggior pregio, però, è il piacere che trasmettono, sorso dopo sorso, durante i ritrovi conviviali, abbinati a del buon cibo”, spiega Lentsch. Non a caso, la sua tenuta

a San Paolo ha ospitato già in tre occasioni la manifestazione Rock Wine Food, un appuntamento atteso sempre con gioia da un palato fine come Klaus Lentsch: “La serie di eventi è sempre una garanzia di piacevoli momenti, musica rock, squisito finger food e, naturalmente, un bel bicchiere di vino.”

Mit ihrem amerikanischen Vetter kann sie wohl nicht mithalten, an Schönheit und Bedeutung steht sie ihm aber in nichts nach: die Bletterbachschlucht in Aldein, Europas größter Canyon. Nicht umsonst wurde sie zum Dolomiten UNESCO Weltnaturerbe ernannt. 400 Meter tief und acht Kilometer lang, erlaubt die Gesteinsschlucht eine Reise durch Jahrmillionen. Dabei gewährt sie Besuchern wertvolle Einblicke in das Innere der Berge und in die Welt der Gesteine – wie ein geöffnetes Buch, in dem mehr als 40 Millionen Jahre Erdgeschichte nachzulesen sind.

Profonda 400 metri e lunga 8 chilometri, trasporta i visitatori in un viaggio nel tempo, conducendoli alla scoperta del cuore delle montagne e nel mondo delle rocce. Si presenta come un libro aperto, in cui si possono sfogliare più di 40 milioni di anni di storia della terra.

It can’t quite keep up with its american cousin in terms of size, but it is just as beautiful and important: The Bletterbach Gorge in Aldein - Europe’s biggest canyon. It has been appointed as an UNESCO Natural World Heritage site. The gorge is 400 meters deep and 8 km long and when you walk through it, you take a journey through millions of years. You can also gain precious insights to the insides of a mountain and the world of geology. It’s like flipping through the pages of a 40 million year old book that tells the story of the earth.

Entstanden ist die Bletterbachschlucht durch Verwitterung und Abtragung. Seit der letzten Eiszeit vor ca. 18.000 Jahren wurden allein durch die Kraft von Wasser, Wind und Wetter schätzungsweise mehr als zehn Milliarden Tonnen Gesteinsmaterial ins Etschtal verfrachtet. So hat sich der kleine, unscheinbare Bach auf einer Strecke von etwa acht Kilometern bis zu 400 Meter tief in unterschiedliche Erdzeitalter eingegraben. Im Gegensatz zu den verworrenen Verhältnissen in anderen Gebieten der Alpen, sind hier die Gesteinsschichten unversehrt geblieben und genau so geblieben, wie sie vor Jahrmillionen abgelagert wurden. Auf beeindruckende Art und Weise geben sie Aufschluss über deren Entstehung sowie über das Klima und die Umweltbedingungen vor rund 250 Millionen Jahren. Abgelagerte Pflanzenreste, versteinerte Muscheln und fossile Tierfährten, aber auch Steine in allen Farben und Größen fungieren als stumme Zeitzeugen, darunter befinden sich auch Spuren einer Echsenart. Die vielen fossilen Funde auf engem Raum, die gute Erreichbarkeit der Schlucht und die hervorragende Erkennbarkeit von versteinerten Schichten und Böden machen das UNESCO-Welterbe zu einem Schulbeispiel für die Wissenschaft. Bis heute beschäftigen sich Wissenschaftler mit der Geologie der Bletterbachschlucht – in enger Zusammenarbeit mit dem Naturmuseum in Bozen, dem Naturmuseum in Trient und der Universität München. So wurden in den vergangenen Jahren beispielsweise die Pflanzenfossilien genauer unter die Lupe genommen, erstmals ein Knochen eines Sauriers gefunden sowie die Erosion und Gesteinsverschiebungen im Bachbett beobachtet.

Questo scenario naturale è il risultato della disgregazione e dell’erosione. Si stima che dall’ultima era glaciale, ca. 18.000 anni fa, siano state trasportate oltre dieci miliardi di tonnellate di roccia nella Valle dell’Adige unicamente attraverso l’azione di acqua, vento e altri agenti atmosferici. In questo modo, il piccolo e poco appariscente rio ha raggiunto una lunghezza di 8 chilometri e una profondità di 400 metri in diverse ere geologiche. A differenza di altre zone alpine, qui i vari strati rocciosi sono rimasti integri e si sono preservati esattamente come furono depositati milioni di anni fa. In modo suggestivo, offrono informazioni sulla loro origine nonché sul clima e sulle condizioni ambientali di 250 milioni di anni fa. Resti di piante, molluschi e orme fossili, così come pietre di ogni colore e dimensione, fungono da muti testimoni, fra cui troviamo anche le tracce di una specie di rettile. naria visibilità degli strati e delle formazioni rocciose rendono il Patrimonio Unesco un esempio emblematico per la scienza. Gli esperti stanno studiando ancora oggi la geologia della gola del Bletterbach, in stretta collaborazione con i musei di scienze naturali di Bolzano e Trento nonché con l’Università di Monaco. Nello specifico, sono finiti sotto la lente d’ingrandimento i fossili vegetali, è stato individuato il primo osso di un sauro e sono stati osservati il processo erosivo e il movimento del materiale nel letto del rio. The Bletterbach Gorge was formed through weathering and erosion. Since the last Ice Age (about 18,000 years ago) the combined powers of water, wind and weather have carried about 10 billion tonnes of rock-material into the Val d’Adige. That is how the small, unimposing stream dug itself through various stones and ages until it became a 400 meter deep and 8 km long gorge. In contrast to other,

very labyrinthine situations in other places of the Alps, the rock bed is perfectly preserved here: They are still the same as they were millions of years ago. They give us an amazing insight into the formation, climate and environment conditions of earth 250 million years ago. You’ll find deposited plant remains, fossilized shells and animal prints, but also stones of every size and colour. They are all silent witnesses of passing time. All of these petrified findings on a very confined space, easy accessibility to the gorge and the remarkable perceptibility of the different stone and ground stratas, make. This UNESCO World Heritage Site a prize exhibit for science. Scientists are still exploring the geology of the Bletterbach Gorge (in close collaboration with the Natural History Museum of Bolzano, the Natural History Museum of Trento and the University of Munich). That is how, in the last couple of years, plant fossils have been examined, dinosaur bones have been found and erosion and rock

Seguire il letto del fiume fino alla chiusura della valle nella “Gorz”, dove vi attende una grandiosa vista sul cosiddetto “anfiteatro” scavato dal rio. Proseguite lungo il letto del rio fino a imboccare nuovamente a destra il sentiero Gorz (G) per fare ritorno al Centro Visitatori. Il sentiero a sinistra conduce al GEOMuseo di Redagno.

Hauptattraktion ist in diesem Jahr das erstmals stattfindende „Merano Flower Festival“ (27. - 29. April). Die Südtiroler mögen einfach gestrickt sein, doch die Natur ist es keineswegs. Wer sich selbst überzeugen möchte, sollte den Gärten von Schloss Trauttmansdorff in Meran einen Besuch abstatten. Im Wechsel der Jahreszeiten bilden duftende Narzissen, Hyazinthen und Kaiserkronen sowie englische Rosen, Oleander und Seidenakazien gemeinsam mit japanischen Zierkirschen, üppigen Rhododendren und immergrünen Exoten eine Symphonie aus Form und Farbe. Als wären sie aus einem Tagtraum entsprungen, der beim Flanieren durch das Blütenmeer zur kaleidoskopischen Realität wird. Im Hintergrund ein rhythmisches Summen, ein archaisches Gedicht, das die Sprache fleißiger Insekten spricht. Angetrieben von ihrem natürlichen Drang, schweben sie 100

von Kelch zu Kelch und vollbringen so ihr akribisches Werk. Geleitet von diesem sinnlichen Bild, bewegen sich die Füße ganz von alleine. Wie in Trance schreiten wir durch dieses Meer aus Farbe und Poesie. Und ehe wir uns versehen, gelangen wir leichten Schrittes auf einen schmalen Pfad, der vorbei an senkrecht blühenden Lehmwänden scheinbar ins Ungewisse führt. Tausende Spornblumen, Glockenblumen, Astern und Gräser zieren das lebendige Blumenbeet. Vorbei an Hortensien und schmalen Serpentinen, die sich elegant nach oben schlängeln, ist da plötzlich ein Palmenstrand. Beinahe surreal wirkt die maritime Kulisse, welche mühelos tropische Träume weckt und die Ouvertüre für ein mehrdimensionales Sinneserlebnis bildet. Exotische Fieder- und Fächerpalmen wippen im Wind, geschmeichelt von der sanften

Brise. An diesem Logenplatz, umrahmt von schneebedeckten, 3.000 Meter hohen Bergen, kann man spielend leicht die Welt vergessen, im Hier und Jetzt am Meer und in den Bergen sein… Noi altoatesini siamo semplici e senza fronzoli. La natura che ci circonda, invece, ha mille sfumature. Per convincersene di persona, non c’è nulla di meglio di una visita ai Giardini di Castel Trauttmansdorff.

Con l’avvicendarsi delle stagioni, profumati narcisi, giacinti e fritillarie imperiali, così come rose inglesi, oleandri e acacie di Costantinopoli, creano una sinfonia di forme. Insieme a ciliegi ornamentali giapponesi, rigogliosi rododendri e piante esotiche sempreverdi, costituiscono un bouquet di infinite

surreale lo scenario marittimo, che risveglia suggestioni tropicali e costituisce l’ouverture di un’esperienza sensoriale multidimensionale. Le foglie pennate e a ventaglio ondeggiano nel vento, accarezzate da una dolce brezza. In questo posto in platea, circondati da cime innevate di 3000 metri, si dimentica facilmente tutto il resto. Seguendo i percorsi a serpentina che risalgono con eleganza il pendio, fiancheggiati da ortensie, si arriva improvvisamente alla Spiaggia delle Palme. Suscita un effetto quasi

As the seasons change, so do the scents and colours: daffodils, hyacinths, crown imperials, English roses, oleander, silk trees, Japanese flowering cherries, rhododendrons, and periwinkles - to name only a few! A true symphony of colour and scents. It feels like a daydream, but this ocean of blossoms becomes a kaleidoscopic reality while you light-footedly stroll through the gardens. In the background you can hear a harmonic hum, almost like an archaic poem that is spoken in the language of the diligent insects. Driven by their natural impulse, they float from calyx to calyx and fulfill their meticulous opus. Your feet will move on their own in this sensuous place. You will sway around this ocean of colour and poetry as if in a trance. Without noticing, you may end up on a narrow path that leads you past vertically blooming loam walls and further on to the unknown. Red valerians, bell flowers, asters and various grasses grace the lively flower-beds. Stroll past hydrangeas and elegantly slim serpentine paths that lead upwards and suddenly you find yourself on a palm beach. It is not at all hard to lose yourself in tropical dreams when you look around this almost surreal maritime setting. It is the overture for a multidimensional and sensory experience. Feather- and fan palms teeter in the wind and are caressed by the soft breeze. From this seat in a box and surrounded by snow covered, 3000 m high mountain peaks, you can forget about the world without any effort. You can be in the here and now, in the mountains and by the sea...

Dopo sei anni di attività come stilista da Valentino a Roma e due anni presso Twinset a Carpi, la trentunenne di Appiano è tornata in Alto Adige nel 2016, fondando il suo brand INTERNODICIOTTO, focalizzato su pezzi “one of a kind” alla moda con ricami personalizzati fatti a mano.

After spending six years working as a fashion designer for Valentino in Rome and two years for Twinset in Carpi, the 31 year old from Appiano returned to South Tyrol and founded her label INTERNODICIOTTO. The label’s main focus is to create trendy single pieces that are embellished with handmade and personalised embroidery.

Seit 50 Jahren spazieren hier Sommer wie Winter Stars und Sternchen aus ganz Europa ein und aus und feiern vor der Kulisse der Dolomiten. Il trentenne gestisce il rifugio più mondano dell’Alto Adige: il Club Moritzino sul Piz la Ila in Alta Badia, condotto dalla sua famiglia da tre generazioni. Da 50 anni, sia in estate che d’inverno, giungono qui star e starlette da tutta Europa per far festa nel maestoso abbraccio delle Dolomiti.

Thirty year old Alexander is the 3rd generation managing the most mundane mountain hut in South Tyrol, the Club Moritzino on the Piz la Ila in Alta Badia. For the past 50 years stars and starlets have been rubbing elbows here, in summer and winter, while partying in front of the amazing scenery of the Dolomites.

Der größte Erfolg seiner bisherigen Bergsteigerkarriere ist eine Solobegehung der Franco-Argentina-Route in Patagonien mit der Rekordzeit von 9 Stunden.

The Val Pusteria native Christoph Hainz’s main occupation is mountain and ski guide. His big passion, however, is extreme climbing. The biggest success of his climbing career to date is the solo ascent of the Franco-Argentina route in Patagonia. He managed to complete it in the record time of 9 hours.

„Lagazuoi“, eine ideale Tour für Familien. Start am Falzaregopass, weiter über den Weg 402 durch einen Kriegstunnel (Stirnlampe und Helm, für Kinder Klettersteigset erforderlich). Auf der Lagazuoi Hütte das Panorama genießen und dann mit der Seilbahn oder zu Fuß über den Kaiserjägersteig absteigen.

“Lagazuoi”: un tour ideale per le famiglie. Si parte dal Passo Falzarego e si prosegue sul sentiero 402 attraverso una trincea (torcia frontale, casco e kit da ferrata per i bambini). Pausa panoramica al Rif. Lagazuoi e, poi, discesa in funivia o a piedi lungo il sentiero dei Kaiserjäger.
