O

ur First Friday events have been such an enormous success this year, that we’ve already set the dates for two events next year: May 2nd and October 3rd. hefs Anne Quatrano and Clifford Harrison opened their second restaurant venture, FloatAway Cafe, on Zonolite Road in the late 90’s, and it’s been quietly thriving ever since. The beautifully understated bistro has seen great press recently, which may have something to do with its new chef, Todd Immel, who got his start at Restaurant Daniel and Table 1280 before he moved to Star Provisions to run the meat counter. Under the guidance of Chef Todd, FloatAway’s menu has retained all of the seasonal emphasis for which it has long been known, while also taking on a bit of Todd’s own personal flavor.

The Cafe’s recent great press may also be due in part to the fact that owner Anne Quatrano’s first cookbook, Summerland, becomes available October 1st. Lauded as a cookbook that makes each month’s harvest a reason to celebrate, Summerland features more than 100 of Chef Anne’s best recipes and entertaining ideas. If you see Chef Anne walking the halls (she’ll be the one wearing the gorgeous linen smock and driving the faux-wood-panelled Star Provisions van), be sure to congratulate her. If you’ve purchased a cookbook and would like her to sign it, e-mail ggrimes@tuckermott.com and I’ll be happy to assist!

CONGRATULATIONS michael phillips Michael Phillips, co-owner of the Floataway Community, COO for Jamestown, and consummate foodie has just released his first cookbook, featuring recipes by chefs and restaurants at Chelsea Market, where Michael has his New York office.

T

hose of you who have met Michael Phillips probably already know this about him: He’s a die-hard foodie. He’s spent the past decade sampling recipes from all over the world, seeking out great chefs and restaurant concepts and devising ways to entice them to his developments. He began, back in the mid-90’s, when he met and befriended Chefs Anne Quatrano and Clifford Harrison, whose new restaurant Bacchanalia had recently become the talk of Atlanta. Michael and his business partner Kathleen Walker were in the early stages of developing the Floataway Community and they urged Quatrano and Harrison to open a second restaurant, Floataway Cafe. A decade later, when Michael became COO of Jamestown, LP, his new office at Chelsea Market in New York sparked the idea for a cookbook that would celebrate all the Chelsea Market chefs he’d befriended, including luminaries like Sarabeth Levine, founder of the famed Sarabeth’s and newcomers and artisinal food kiosks like Lucy’s Whey, Liddabit Sweets and Num Pang sandwich shop. The resulting Chelsea Market Cookbook is available now at amazon.com and other fine booksellers. 2

or the better part of the past two years, photographer Brian Woodcock has followed Chef Anne Quatrano around—to her home, her farm, her restaurants and various private family settings—documenting as she prepared more than 100 recipes for her first cookbook. “SUMMERLAND is a very personal look into our culinary world,” said the chef, “a real collaboration between myself, my talented kitchen staff and the many creative forces that surround us.” Beautifully photographed and packed with stories of Quatrano’s life on her family farm, SUMMERLAND celebrates seasonality and community in cooking, showcasing Quatrano’s refined farm-to-table sensibilities. Order now on Amazon and other outlets as well as Quatrano’s own site, starprovisions.com.
