Presenting Calliope
How a wealthy arts patron, a famous poet and a couple of nymphs inspired a new Yves Delorme design
T

he setting is France, c.1659. A new and fabulous palace has led poet Jean de la Fontaine to begin his “Songe de Vaux”, celebrating the beauties of the palace and grounds. The poem features Calliope, the muse of epic poetry and three other nymphs (architecture, painting and gardening) who are vying against each other to assert their positions as most important contributor to the glories of le Château.
Our vote goes to Calliope who, along with with Hortesie the garden nymph, inspired Yves Delorme’s creative director, Evelyne Julienne. Immerse yourself in the glories of Julienne’s “Calliope” design: tone-on-tone foliage sprinkled with giant peonies on a celedon green background. Accent and complement with “Hortesie”, featuring blooming peonies on a soft white background. More at www.yvesdelorme.com.

The upcoming exhibit, LAWRENCE MATHIS: RECENT WORKS, will open on Friday, March 5th, 2010. Jordan Thomas Foundation Warehouse Row is pleased to promote this award-winning young man and his remarkable foundation
When Jordan Thomas was 15, he lost both legs from the calf down in a boating accident. Rather than let this deter him, Jordan recovered and started his own foundation to raise money for children recovering from traumatic injuries. Warehouse Row was thrilled to host last October’s second annual Low Country Boil. JTF Director Janet Jobe called it “a great venue, and a perfect night with a full moon.” Participants enjoyed hot air balloons out of the parking lot and got to meet Noah, the recipient.
To date, JTF has raised funds to help four children and their families afford the prosthetic limbs, medical care and rehabilitation that they so desperately needed. As the 2009 National Courage Award and Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy Award recipient, Jordan Thomas is well on his way to realizing his dreams of helping even more young survivors of traumatic injuries. www.jordanthomasfoundation.org
