VOLLEYBALL GEARS UP FOR THE FINAL WEEK OF THE SEASON

The Tulane University volleyball team will close out the 2021 season in Uptown this week with a pair of matches. The Wave will take on the Knights of UCF on Wednesday with serve slatted for 6 p.m. The season closer will follow on Friday when USF rolls in for senior day at 1 p.m.

RANKINGS Tulane was picked fourth in 2021 American Athletic Conference Volleyball Preseason Poll, returning nearly the entire roster from the spring 2021 season. UCF was selected to win the league while USF was picked to finish seventh. With one week of play left in the regular season, Tulane currently sits in sixth. Meanwhile UCF leads The Green Wave will go into Friday’s match looking for their first the league with a strong 17-1 record USF posts the reciprocal mark win against UCF since Tulane got it done in 2016. Tulane last met of 1-17. the Knights in October when they fell 3-0. Tulane holds the third best record in the American Conference against the Knights who AWARDS have led the league for the last 6 seasons. The Green Wave picked up two preseason all-conference team selections in seniors Lexie Douglas and Kayla Dinkins. Tulane has Friday’s match against USF will be the second meeting between also earned four AAC weekly honor roll selections in Michelle the teams this season. When the teams last met in October, Tulane Urquhart, Anna Davis, Douglas (3), Dinkins (2) and Mackenzie clinched the win in five sets. Friday will also mark senior night for Martin. the Tulane volleyball program.

• Tulane sits in fifth in the AAC leaderboard for kills with a team number of 1474. • Tulane holds three places on the AAC’s top 20 leaderboard in hitting percentage in Kayla Dinkins (4th, .334), Anna Davis (17th, .280) and Yvette Burcescu (21st, .252). • Tulane is second in hitting percentage in the AAC with a .239 clip. • Tulane has earned AAC weekly honor roll selections in Michelle Urquhart, Davis, Douglas (3), Dinkins (2) and Mackenzie Martin. • Dinkins sits at fifth in school history in block assists with 373 she is two away from breaking into fourth.
