The Tulsa Performing Arts Center’s Broadway Senior Program is giving seniors the chance to take center stage and shine like never before! This vibrant program offers a dynamic outlet for creativity and self-expression, allowing participants to embrace their love of theatre and be a part of something truly special. This season, the spotlight is on The Music Man, the heartwarming story of a charming con artist who transforms a small town with his impromptu band program. The cast, which includes some beloved performers from the program’s previous productions of Cinderella and Guys and Dolls, is pouring their hearts into every scene, bringing excitement, energy, and character to the show. The program is designed to welcome everyone, regardless of experience or physical ability, creating an inclusive and collaborative environment where each participant can contribute in their own unique way.

Cast members are currently learning choreography, blocking, and developing their characters every week. Wall’s direction encourages creativity and camaraderie, while Conger’s musical guidance ensures every song is bursting with joy and energy. With performances set to begin in April, the Broadway Senior Program is proving that age is no barrier to creating extraordinary theatre. Seniors are not just reliving the magic of Broadway — they are creating new memories, inspiring others, and enriching the community with every rehearsal. Stay tuned for more information about their show, which promises to be full of heart, laughter, and unforgettable moments!

Have you heard about the Tulsa Performing Arts Center’s newest education program?

The Next Narrative Monologue Competition gives local high school students the chance to strengthen their acting chops and work with professionals in the industry.

The Next Narrative Monologue Competition (NNMC) is a national theatre initiative created by Kenny Leon’s True Colors Theatre Company. It provides high school students — grades nine through 12 — an opportunity to perform original monologues that amplify the voices of Black playwrights. Winners of regional competitions throughout the country compete for a chance to advance to the National Finals in New York City.

Regional winners receive an all-expenses-paid trip that includes workshops with theatre professionals, a Broadway show experience, and a performance at an iconic New York City

theatre. National winners earn cash scholarships and additional recognition.

This year’s regional finals will take place on Saturday, March 8, but before then, we have an amazing opportunity to find out more about this incredible program. On Saturday, February 1, we’re hosting a workshop for teachers and students to learn more about the competition and to hone their skills before the program even starts.

The workshop will begin with a personal declaration, an in-depth, inward look from each participant, stating what is important to them and why they are there. Personal declarations are followed by discovery, connection and inquiries from other participants, so that all involved can get to know each other and feel comfortable together.

Lastly, each participant will select a monologue to discuss in groups, some of which will be presented by the groups or individual

participants. This process helps all involved learn about NNMC, work with experts in the field and develop nationally competitive skills.

Lunch is provided and all teachers and students are welcome to join, whether or not they plan to register for the Next Narrative Monologue Competition. For more information, visit https:// tulsapac.com/next-narrative.

Registration for this amazing opportunity ends on Thursday, January 30, so don’t miss your chance!
